Will this fit a 2014 V6 Manual? Yes it will, probably better than it fits the GT's and Boss'. Bought it on spec and sure enough it fit perfect.

helimech2

  • The Ford Performance Boss 302 Transmission Cooler Air Scoop is specifically designed for the GT's and the Boss's. While it may fit on a V6, Ford Performance does not guarantee the fitment for different models than designed for.

Can this air scoop be used in conjunction with the Hotchkis K-Member Crossbrace? Can the Hotchkis K-Member Crossbrace - Manual (05-13 GT, GT500) be used in conjunction with the Ford Racing Boss 302 Transmission Cooler Air Scoop (11-13 GT, BOSS)? From photographs taken by customers, it looks like they would interfere with each other.

  • The Ford Performance Boss 302 Transmission Cooler Air Scoop (11-14 GT, BOSS) is not compatible with the Hotchkis K-Member Crossbrace - Manual (05-14 GT, GT500) (Item #48406) In fact, they even use the same mounting points.

Any concern scraping it over speed bumps, especially being lowered?

coyote621

  • The bar the scoop is mounted to also acts as the front lower control arm brace, and the scoop only sits about an inch or so below it. My GT is lowered 1" and eyeballing it there's at least 3-4" of clearance below the scoop. I haven't hit anything yet and I go over a dozen speed bumps on every trip in and out of my community. I certainly would blast over speed bumps, because could bottom out even without a scoop.

    You just know it works.

Even tho it is one of the easiest installations you will have, it is one of the most important for the racer that pushes his/her pony hard all day long like me. I live in south Texas where the every day temp is at least 97+ with a humidity of 60+ so ya its hot. That transmition needs some cooling and this is the easiest and cheapest way to do that. Its definatly a must have!!

    Worth getting for the track.

Since the trans doesn't have a temp gauge, you can only logically deduce that channeling air to the trans cooling fins will have a positive effect. Definitely not necessary for street only, but worth the money if tracking your car. The added benefit is the bar the scoop is attached to is also the front lower control arm brace, so it's only an extra $55 to add the scoop (don't order both like I did). If you have the GT Track Pack option you already have a lower control arm brace, so if you're handy at metal bending and welding, you may want to fashion your own scoop.

Boss 302 Trans cooler air scoop

Easy to install on your Mustang, It will hang a little low about a inch, but on my stock 2013 Mustang GT there is no ground clearance problems I can go over speed bumps with no scrapes or dents to the Trans cooler scoop. It looks really cool and at high speeds I think it really does cool the Trans down some. I hope this reveiw helps...

    Cooler temps are always better!

This was the most simple install. Took 5 minutes. I also did notice a drop of about 10 degrees in my transmission fluid. Of course it depends on how fast you are driving...I did however notice that the transmission has 4 slots where the clutch and flywheel are located, so it should keep them cooler as well. Great product!

Use my V6 for track days and this really seems to help reduce the heat build-up in the transmission. Bolts in easily with no modification required. Clears the Steeda G Trac brace as well.

    Simple and Effective Cooler

I really like this transmission cooler, it's very simple but also very effective. I track my car during HPDE's and before installing this I could tell the transmission was getting hot because it would be hard to put the transmission in gear. I would miss 4th gear quite a bit and getting it into first after a session would be almost impossible. After I installed this cooler those problems went away on track. I definitely recommend this if you track your car. Even if you're not heating the transmission it's cheap insurance to make sure you never do. Installation is very easy, it took me longer to put the car on jack stands than installing this scoop.

Effective, but with one puzzling design issue

With ambient temperatures right at 66F (bottom), I ran a short mountain course (1500 ft. elevation gain) prior to installing this item, and then used an infrared gun on the fins at the bottom of the transmission. Then I ran the course again after installation. The gun registered a 28F drop in temperature. Admittedly not a very rigorous test, but the indication is that it works. I recommend the product. One puzzling issue, however -- although perhaps it's confined the GT: The front of the scoop overlaps the engine oil pan drain plug, meaning that on oil change, lubricant is guaranteed to fill up the scoop and spill out (particularly since you've probably jacked the car up in front to get at the plug and filter). A set-back of an inch in the leading edge of the scoop would have ameliorated the issue without compromising air flow.

    Simple and easy upgrade

The way it's designed is nice. It's so easy to install and it should definitely help keep the transmission cool. The lip on the new bar directs air into the aluminum cooling fins on the transmission casing.

    air scoop cooler

From the first time I was under my 14 gt, my first thought was how can this transmission get so hot just from normal freeway driving. If I'm going to push this stang to the limits or just running a couple of passes at the strip. The tranny cooler is a great option, I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to make their transmission last. Installation took literally 10 minutes.

    easy install, good product

very easy to install. its a ford racing product so the quality is there. took about 5 min to put in with car on the ground and no jack stands. all you need is a 15 mm wrench and socket. Your not going to have any performance gains, just added cooling to the manual trans. A+ product. highly recommended.

Great product made a huge difference

I bought this product after my car going into "limp home mode" when the transmission got too hot. My stick shift used to get very hot after just a little while of racing. I installed this in under 20 minutes and noticed right away during regular driving the shifter was much cooler. It's did not going into limp home mode after tacking it anymore.

    Keeping it cool!

I do road course track days twice a month and after 10 minutes of hard driving the manual transmission gets boiling hot. Second to third gear under hard acceleration just won't shift. Installed the scoop and just did a full day at the track. Shifting was fast even after 20 minutes of hard laps. Didn't get shut out once going from second to third! This scoop does the job. Rides low on a 2 inch lowered car. Probably only 3 " clearance, so watch for pot holes and raised manhole covers.

Cheap insurance for your MT 82.

The installation couldn't be easier, 4 bolts and you're done. The scoop tucks up well against the transmission, so no fear of it snagging anything. Even with a lowered car, it has plenty of clearance. The scoop may catch oil from the oil pan drain during a service, but cutting a notch in the middle of the leading edge of the scoop with a Dremel tool can easily solve that issue. Overall, I still think it rates 5 stars.
