Hey, guys. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and installing the Hurst Billet Plus Pistol Grip Handle for automatic 2015 and newer GT V6 and EcoBoost Mustangs. This is an aggressive shifter handle for automatic transmissions. It's gonna be for someone who wants more of a performance-oriented look and feel as well as driving experience and interior styling too. It's made of CNC machined with billet aluminum. It costs about 220 bucks, and the install is very easy, it's direct bolt-on. I'm gonna call it a one out of three wrenches in the difficulty meter, and we'll show you how to install it now.For this install, we used a small flathead screwdriver, a small Allen key, a stubby Phillips screwdriver, a pair of dikes, and a plastic body panel removal tool. All right, guys. So to start your install, you'll need a plastic panel removal tool as well as a short Phillips-head screwdriver, and what we're gonna do is we're going to use the pry tool to remove our bezel here, so that's what we'll start with. All right. So we're gonna pull out our little tray here just to give us some access in the front. I'll take my little tool here, and I'm going to work under the edge to get this pried up. All right. Now that I have one corner up, I'm going to work my way around the bezel, and it's just going to pop out of place. All right. So this piece right here is also clipped into place, and what we're gonna do is we're gonna raise it up high enough so that we can unclip our shift indicator. So in order to do that, I'm just going to work my hands under here. You guys can grab it from the front, it's just clipped in. So before you guys disconnect your shift indicator, which is right up here on the left-hand side, what you need to do is actually move your shifter handle so you can get access to two Phillips-head screws that are right here in the front. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna put the e-brake on. You're not turning the car on for this, but you are gonna turn the ignition on. You put your foot on the brake, and I'm gonna shift this all the way back as far as I can to gain access to the front side of it here. I'll turn the ignition off, kind of go into the front. I'll disconnect the shift indicator, and I'll pull the boot up a little bit, and there are two Phillips-head screws right here on the front of the shifter. All right. So we'll take our stubby Philips-head screwdriver here, and we'll back these out.So at this point, you can remove your stock setup. I'm just gonna pull up, and it'll come right off. All right, guys. So we have our factory shift knob here. The boot is still attached as well as our shift indicator, so what we're gonna do is we're gonna remove the handle from these items. What you'll do is you'll flip it over backwards. You guys can see the seam of the shift boot right here. On the opposite sides of the seam of the shift boot down on these two sides right here there are two locking tabs. What we're gonna do is take a flathead screwdriver, reach down in there, release the locking tabs, and that's gonna separate the shift boot from our factory shifter. All right. So down on these sides are two locking tabs. We'll release them, and then we'll be able to separate our factory handle. So we'll take this time now just to do a quick comparison of our factory handle compared to the Hurst handle. So, obviously, the Hurst handle is gonna create a very different look and feel than the factory. So instead of an overhand grip like you normally have with the factory shift knob, these are gonna be going to a vertical pistol grip as you can see here. It's gonna create a much different feel for the driver. It's gonna be great for those of you out there that want to bring more of a performance aspect to the interior styling as well as your driving experience. Obviously, a handle like this is gonna be more of a statement piece in the interior than your factory one is. So this is made out of aluminum. You guys can see the black anodized plate here as well as the Hurst logo, it's on both sides of the handle too. So keep in mind that because this is aluminum that it might hold heat in the summertime as well as cold in the wintertime, so don't be surprised if you're in the extreme of either summer or winter you go to grab this and it's either cold or a little bit warm. One of the other cool things about this handle is that it does come with a 12-volt 10-amp switch for line lock or a nitrous trans brake. So that's just a cool thing to factor in with this new handle. What we're gonna do now is we're gonna go ahead and get our shift boot installed on this and then get this in the car.All right, guys. So our shift boot ring is glued to our shift boot. We need to remove that in order to install the Hurst handle. So we're going to very carefully unglue the shift boot ring from the shift boot. I don't want to tear the shift boot. I just want to get it off of the ring. All right. Now we're going to install the Hurst shifter handle into our boot here. So, basically, I am lining this up, making sure that it's in the correct orientation. I am sliding the boot as far down as it'll go. And then Hurst gives you a zip tie to zip tie your boot to your handle here. So once this is pushed as far down as it'll go, I'll grab the provided zip tie, and I wrap it around my boot, and I make sure that all of this stays flush, and I'll tighten it down. All right, guys. So we're gonna cut the excess off of our zip tie, and we'll go ahead and get this in the car. All right. So at this point, we're ready to get this installed in our car. Hurst does give us new hardware, so we're not gonna be reusing the factory hardware. I have a 2 and 1/2-millimeter Allen key here because these are pretty small. Just going to line them up. All right. So now we'll put our car back in park so we can reconnect our shift indicator here. Put the ignition on, step on the brake, shift up into park. We'll connect our electrical connection, get our boot sitting right and snap this down into place. Our last step will be to reinstall our bezel. That's just gonna snap back into place as well.Real quick, just so you guys know, the button here is to help you shift. So you'll put your foot on the brake, you'll push this button in, and then you'll be able to shift. You can't shift if you don't push that button in, so this button here is for shifting purposes. All right, guys, that's gonna wrap up this review and install. Keep in mind you can always check this out more online right here at americanmuscle.com.
