      Video Review & Installation

If you're looking for a DOT legal bias ply for your big power stick Mustang, the Mickey Thompson ET Street R will certainly be worth a look. The Bias Ply ET Street R shown here will be available in sizes to fit both 15 and 17 inch wheels in addition to 26 and 28-inch-tall tires. Pricing will vary depending on your sizing of course but expect to drop between 200 and 220 bucks per tire. So most people watching this video are probably already familiar with the Mickey Thompson name and of course their legendary reputation in the drag racing world. So I'll save you the long and drawn out history lesson. However, one thing to keep in mind here, guys, is that up until recently finding a DOT legal bias ply was almost impossible. So stick guys who wanted a softer sidewall to absorb hard launches but at the same time also be able to drive them on the street legally, you're pretty much left high and dry. That is of course until Mickey Thompson heard the cries of our shattered rear diffs and our broken transmissions and came up with the ET Street R here which by the way they do offer in both radial and bias ply configurations. This is in addition to their ET Street Pro Radial, another great tire and finally their ET Street S/S or Street Strip. I would argue that most guys watching this video are going to be interested in the bias ply version we have here for their stick Mustang for the big reason I already mentioned, to help absorb the violence of a big time clutch drop on a sticky track or surface. And that's the exact same reason why I have this tire on my personal street driven super charged S197. Now most automatic guys can get away with running a drag radial in the rear as the drivetrain shock experience with those guys is far less than what a stick car experiences even coming off a brake. However, for us guys rowing gears on the street and at the track, the bias is going to be the more forgiving tire 10 times out of 10. Now the common gripe with running a bias is that the sway on the big end can sometimes make the car feel a little sketchy at speed. And honestly that hasn't been my experience at all with these Mickey Thompsons. Of course a lot of that will depend on your front runner or front tire setup on your car. And the old adage is here, if you run a bias ply in the rear you should match it with a bias ply up front and that is true for the most part. However, I run a radial skinny up front the Sportsman SR also from Mickey Thompson and my experience going through the traps at 135 plus has been a very stable one. But with that said I would definitely advise against running this tire with a full width or full size radial up front as that's when things get a little bit more interesting at speed. But let's talk about some of the finer details here with the bias ply version and again 15 and 17-inch wheel diameters in addition to the 26 and 28-inch-tall diameters. Now widths are gonna vary ever so slightly but essentially you're gonna be looking at a 10-and-a-half-inch wide tire for the smaller 26 and the 11 and a half here for the taller 28. Mickey does use their M5 compound for this tire which they claim is a good medium compound for general use. And judging by Mickey's compound chart the M5 of the bias ply is actually a little harder compared to the ET Street R Radial version in addition to the Mickey Pro and also the S/S which all three by the way share the softer R2 compound. Now this is a tubeless bias ply and again is stamped with the DOT approval right on the sidewall making this thing legal for street use. However big time disclaimer here guys, you do not wanna get caught in the rain with these tires because as you might imagine the lack of tread or tread void more specifically is gonna make these things flat out unsafe and dangerous to drive on a wet road. Now straight line dry traction on the other hand is simply awesome as I can attest from experience. This tire's gonna hook real hard at the track and relatively well on the street with my 700 plus wheel TVS car. One thing to keep in mind here guys is that if you are interested in combining the ET Street R with a Weld [SP], a Race Star or even a Ford [SP] Star drag wheel we will mount and balance them for you for free in addition to shipping them to you for free as well. And if you haven't already done so feel free to read up on the very favorable reviews of the bias ply here on the site from other owners out there who are actually putting this thing through its paces. So we're wrapping this one up, guys. If you're looking for a DOT legal bias ply for your ride, the ET Street R will be one of your only options available in the aftermarket and you can grab yours right here at americanmuscle.com.
