Nice tight fit and no more leaks!!!

This manifold looked a little different than the OEM it replaced but it dropped right into place and fit perfectly. The gasket set is a series of rubber rings that surround each air and water hole and are pressed into the bottom of the manifold. That made installation a breeze as you do not have to align gaskets. The engine has regained its power and it's nice to have dry spark plug wells again. Too bad you can't attach pictures to a review.......

Pro: Intake is working fine. I did not notice any performance changes but I seldom push the engine past 4K. Con: Intake was shipped with NO packing material in the box.

      1997 Mustang GT cracked intake

Like many people my intake developed a crack near the thermostat and leaked coolant. It was the original composite intake so I guess I’m lucky it lasted 92,000 miles. I searched around for a replacement and found several options. The most common replacement item is the Dorman 615-178. I’ve seen mixed reviews for that part so this “OPR” intake with all positive reviews seemed like the best choice. When the part arrived it was the Dorman. Not a problem really but had I known that was what I was buying I might have found a better price for it on another site. The part did fit as promised with virtually all of the original hardware. One thing I didn’t like was the fuel rails are held in with self tapping screws rather than the original “double-ended” bolts. The opposite ends of the original bolts are used to secure wiring harnesses and attach a ground strap which I would prefer to re-connect but everything seemed ok without those connections. I had to do one minor unexpected procedure before mounting the manifold because the locator holes for the original intake gaskets (which are not needed with this manifold) need to be filled with RTV to prevent air leaks under the new molded-in gaskets. But again that is a quick process and the instructions do warn you about the need to do that. The biggest problem I had with installing the manifold came when re-installing the alternator bracket. The holes to mount the alternator bracket to the aluminum crossover are in a different location than the ones on the original composite intake so Dorman includes a replacement bracket that lines up with the new holes. The problem is that the bracket itself it too big and interferes with vacuum hoses attached to the throttle body. At first I tried to force it and it worked but I didn’t like the way those hoses were crushed down. Eventually I took the bracket off and cut it with a rotary cutter until it was nearly the same size as the original bracket. I was much happier with this fit. Overall I was happy with the installation and it did solve the leaking coolant problem. I just wish a few things had been a little more like the original parts so I rated this 4 out of 5 stars. I spent a longer than typical amount of time installing the manifold but that is because I would often take time to stare at the engine and visualize the next few steps rather than just “going for it”. Had I done that I could have finished in one day and I have no prior experience with this big of a job. The included instructions did not give the full process to complete the job. They were more like tips for how to do a few things but don’t expect step by step instructions. If you want that you need a shop manual. But even without that you should be able to use your intuition to figure out how to remove all the components from the manifold and re-attach them.
