Hey everyone, I'm Justin with americanmuscle.com. This is my breakdown of the Power Stop cross drilled and slotted rotor and pad kit available for all 1994 to 2014 Mustangs. Power Stop is a company that specializes in producing quality braking components for a wide variety of applications, all with the goal of increasing your stopping power for a very affordable price. We have had some recent experience with Power Stop's kit on our 2014 GT project car named Project Coyote, and if you guys want, you can click on that link below. You can check out all of our project car builds and also subscribe to our YouTube channel while you're there to check out more in depth detailed product overviews. This particular Power Stop kit, as I mentioned earlier, is available for just about every generation Mustang there is, including the newer Brembo cars, and really is a great bang for your buck mod. With this kit, you do get both the front and rear cross drilled and slotted rotors in addition to the brand new ceramic pads for the same price other companies are charging just for the front two rotors alone. Now that you know what's included with the kit, let's break down the individual components a little further. As I mentioned earlier, you do get the front and rear rotors, both of which have been cross drilled and slotted. If you're not aware of the benefits of running a cross drilled and slotted rotor, here's the deal. They will actually prevent a little excess heat from building up, and it also reduces some brake fade after a few repetitive hard stops. The rotors have also been silver zinc coated to help prevent any possible rust or corrosion from building up and to ensure that the rotors themselves remain looking good for years to come. Speaking of looking good, it's hard to deny the fact that a set of cross drilled and slotted rotors just look amazing on any car and add a much more aggressive look to the car itself. In fact, don't take my word for it. You can always click on the link below to check out the customer submitted images and reviews of these rotors on our very own customer pages. That way, you get a good look at what these rotors might look like on your very own Mustang. Again, click on the link below to check out the products page, if you're not there already. Moving on to the pads, the Power Stop kit does include the Evolution carbon ceramic brake pad which will help you in a couple of different ways. For starters, that carbon ceramic compound will allow for higher brake temperatures but with less brake fade, increasing your overall stopping power. In addition, these pads will be a little bit more quiet, and they will also produce less brake dust, helping to keep your wheels a lot cleaner. Installing a new set of brakes and rotors on any Mustang is actually a pretty straightforward job that just about any owner should feel confident in tackling using some basic hand tools and a lift or jack. You have to keep in mind, guys, you are tackling all four corners here, so expect to spend about three hours at least, or a nice Saturday or Sunday afternoon, in the garage to get everything knocked out. You definitely want to follow the manufacturer's recommended vetting process with the new set of pads and rotors to get the optimal performance and wear out of your setup. If you need more info about this, you can always check out the product page, or do not hesitate to get in touch with one of our award winning customer service agents by phone or by email. If you're looking to upgrade the brakes on your '94 and newer Mustang for a very affordable price, well then you have to check out the Power Stop kit available right here at americanmuscle.com.

Fitment with mgp calipers Will these rotors or brake pads cause the mgp caliper covers to not fit?

Thinking of getting this kit, however is there any reason that these would not work for the V6 models as well? I believe the fitment is the same?

StevenR

  • This Power Stop Z23 Evolution Sport Brake Rotor & Pad Kit is designed for the GT models only due to the rotor size difference from the GT to the V6 models. Power Stop does offer a Z23 kit specifically for the V6 models, which we do currently carry, item 53456. http://www.americanmuscle.com/powerstop-brake-kit-1114v6.html

  • No, the Power Stop Z23 Evolution Sport Brake Rotor & Pad Kit is only guaranteed fitment for an 11-14 mustang GT and not a 2016 mustang ecoboost.

After 50K with the stock brakes, I am ready for new ones. How long can I expect this kit to last for a daily commuter?

pete50

  • That is something that really depends on your driving style. These brakes are performance brakes, they are made of a lighter material along with the brake pads to get a better bite and help with stopping power. Where you will gain performance, you will be giving up some time that the brakes will last. If these brakes are driven at a moderate driving level they should easily last 40,000 miles.

Someone else raised the question but no one was specific. What is the side of these rotors? As in inches. Please do not say "Same size as stock". I am looking for specifics as I need 13.2" Rotors and the V6 ones they sell on here are 12.4".

    Dissapointed

Hi, Im not one to write reviews but decided to do so due to that i remembered how dissapointing this set of rotors and brakes were when I had them on my car. I will begin by saying the fit was ok, brake in period was fine too and they seemed to come to a stop not any better or lesser than OEM ones. Furthermore fast forward 5 months and thats were things began to really go down hill day by day. It began by a slight vibration and squealing when coming to a slow stop. Did not affect the braking so didn't really want to bash them just yet, they looked alot better than OEM behind my wheels. A couple of weeks after, they really began to squeal and now the vibration also was felt at slowing down from freeway speeds. Within the next few weeks the car had become unbearably annoying and embarrassing to drive due to the crazy high pitch squeals when traveling anywhere below 20 mph. I have long tube headers and i could hear it over my exhaust!!! Sounded like two rats fighting under my car. My advice stay away from these there is a reason they are cheaper than OEM set. You get what you pay for the car was not tracked, i could count the couple of spirited driving moments with my fingers so I could not find an excuse to such bad performance from these. I tracked my stocn one a few times and got tested in a few moments of emergency coming through without a hitch and still lasted me a clear 30k miles including out of state trips. I had out weighed the good to bad reviews and was on a budget so had purchased these and up to date feels like the worst 400 dollars i have ever slapped on my car. Go with OEM if you want to save a buck or two or with DBA or a more reputable/expensive set. Pros: looks and fitment Cons: All the above

very noticeable increase in stopping power, look much better then stock, only problem are involving the directions which aren't the easiest to follow(ended up not using them at all) and all the rotors are labeled rear so make sure you grave the right ones before you start. i went for these because on the track performance of the stock ones would fade dramatically with heat, much better with these. get them they are worth it. side note they are made in china

    Awesome performance price!

Installed these about a week ago and there is a noticeable difference in stopping power. The rotors are massive and look great. Installation took a couple hours. The worst part is retracting the rear caliper pistons. I highly recommend buying or renting a caliper tool. My local parts store was out of stock, so I was forced to use the dreaded cube! I really am pleased with the overall look and performance. Pad break in was easy, absolutely no noise or spring issues to report. I'm waiting on a set of MGD Caliper covers custom painted in GHIG as the final touch!

Purchased this kit specifically for a visit to the track. After 3 - 20 minute sessions brakes were making a strange noise. After returning from the track and visiting my performance shop we found one pad had cracked. I will be replacing pads with Hawk Performance HPS Brake Pad

    2013 Power Stop Kit

Once I received the packages I was immediately not impressed. Packaging sucked, all rotors were labeled "rear" and the pad retainers were in the wrong boxes. But once I sorted through the mess, there were no damages or missing pieces. The install was quick and straight forward. The brakes are amazingly quite and preform much better than the stock rotors and pads. Aside from the packaging, I'm extremely happy.

You Get What You Pay For

Not sure if I was just unlucky or what but I would not recommend this. With in the first day the metal clips on the front pads popped off causing the pad to rub at all times on the rotor. AM put me in contact with their customer support which was very helpful and after sending them a picture they sent me new front pads. Ended up not being worth it as the break pads would squeak when breaking lightly which drove me nuts. Ended up reverting back to the OEM pads. The rotors so look awesome!! Defiantly ads a great look to the car. About 3 months in I started to hear a squeak coming from my rear tire and the rotor has actually CRACKED. If I could go back and do it over I would have happily spent more money on a better kit.

    So far, so good

I bought this kit as a full replacement. I had brake creaking and minor heat cracks in my stock rotors on all four corners. The install is straight forward and simple as long as you have the rear caliper box tool to spin the rear piston down. After bleeding the brakes (pump clutch as well for those that still share master cylinder reservoir), it was a noticeable improvement over stock and they're quiet as can be.

    Best bang for your buck

I cannot love these brakes more than I do. No more squeaking (the old pads were still good, but still squeaked), better stopping power, and they look better than stock. A friend told me big brake kits are a waste of money for a daily driver. Given the front calipers already had dual pistons and how well the new rotors and pads stop, I believe him. This kit is probably 1/10th the price of the average big brake kit. My only complaint was the install. The rear calipers require a special tool to push the pistons back in. If you plan to use a piece of wood and a C clamp, think again. In the middle of the install I had to run and find the brake tool to finish. I only have one car... so a friend had to chauffeur me around. Other than that, absolutely love them.

    Solid upgrade.

This upgrade is a solid purchase. Install was straight forward and will take as long as your mechanical level. Stopping power was increased, however I did need new brakes. So even OEM would have been a noticeable difference. It is hard to say if they are better over stock. I know I had problems with brake fade on my stock pads and rotors. I have yet to find that problem with this kit. Make sure to lubricate or grease the areas that are needed or your brakes will squeak. Product was of good quality, and was packaged well. Bottom line, if your looking for serious stopping power, opt for six piston big brake kit. If you are looking to have a better setup than OEM, this is probably your best bet.

The convenience alone makes this package a great buy, everything needed for a complete upgrade, with no concerns about fitment etc.. Then the quality, it was actually even better than I expected The look of the drilled/slotted rotors was exactly what I wanted as well

The install was very easy. Make sure to follow the instructions on the break in of the pads. Did have an issue with a rusted slide pin on the break caliber. Had to go to Ford for the right sized bracket. Have not had any issues at this point. So far so good.

    Not happy in the slightest

Installed all of perfectly, except every time I hit my brakes after I haven't driven in a while the loudest squeaking happens. These are BRAND NEW and make more noise then my stocks that I replaced. Read reviews online and the same problem occurred to others, even after getting new pads replaced from power stop. Extremely disappointed, I recommend going with another brand.

    Good so far

Brakes have been on for about 2 weeks so far. They work well. One thing I was disappointed in was that the springs that are mounted on the front pads broke off during install. The springs weren't even under the shoulder/head of the rivet that was supposed to be holding them on. Luckily, the springs aren't all that critical.
