    Review & Install Video

Hey, guys, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com, here with the review and install of the PA Performance Premium Power Wire Kit for 1994 to 2014 Mustangs. You're gonna wanna check out this power wire kit if you have a high amp alternator and you wanna upgrade your power wire to carry the larger load that the alternator will produce. The stock OEM Power Wire from the alternator to the car wasn't designed to carry the larger loads, so when you spend your money upgrading your alternator to a high amp one, you wanna make sure that you're getting the full benefit so you need to upgrade your power wire. And I know that '05 to 14's can have that annoying check charging system notification since there is an issue with factory alternator and power wire so an alternator upgrade and this power wire kit will eliminate that issue for you and stop you from going through batteries. This kit will work with a factory alternator but it's really designed to carry the larger load of an upgraded component. The only thing this kit will not work with is the GT500 models. If you have a GT500, there's a specific kit that will work for you. This wire is a 48-inch, 4-gauge wire that has more strands than the factory wire, which is how it carries the larger load and it also has bundle wrapping, which is gonna reduce noise in high-end sound systems. The wire is finished off with new looming so it'll look nice under the hood. When it comes to price, you're looking at spending right about $50 for this power wire. It's gonna be your only option on this site when it comes to power wire upgrades but this will work with any alternator, stock or aftermarket. The install for this is not difficult. I'm gonna call it a one out of three wrenches in the difficulty meter, which take an hour or two to install and you need a few tools to get the job done. The wire itself is only two bolts and this is a part that fits a wide range of years. So depending on what year of Mustang you have, the specific steps and routing maybe a little bit different but generally speaking, the overall install will be the same. Either way, you need to disconnect your battery. The power wire bolts into the back of the alternator and you can remove that and the other end at the battery as well. You're just looking at unbolting two bolts here. Pull your new power wire up in the correct orientation and route it away from any danger zones. After that, you can connect your battery and that's all it's gonna take. Wrapping things up here with the PA Performance Premium Power Wire Kit, this kit will fit all 1994-2014 Mustangs, except the GT500. You can check it out more online right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Handle More Power. The stock OEM wire from the alternator to the vehicle was not designed to carry the larger loads that high AMP replacement alternators produce. By installing this Premium Power Wire Upgrade Kit, you will add the additional safe carrying capacity needed for lengths up to 4 feet.

Premium Wire. This Premium Power Wire Kit is made from the highest quality #4 gauge wire, with increased number of strands, electrolytic copper and bundle wrapping to reduce the noise in high end sound systems. All this while still being incredibly flexible and sporting a show quality finish.

Application. The PA Performance Premium Power Wire Kit will work with your factory alternator; however, it's designed for use in 1994 to 2014 Mustangs with higher than stock AMP alternators, including V6, GT, Bullitt, Mach 1, Cobra and BOSS 302 models. Not compatible with GT500 models.

I got the kit, and I'm really confuse how to install, I have a GT 1995, should I replace the OEM wire to the new kit? Thanks! SC

    • You will need to remove the intake manifold, in order to get to the back of the alternator and change the stock wire for the PA Performance Premium Power Wire Kit. If you are having issues with the install we do have an install guide for you here: https://www.americanmuscle.com/powerwire-0509-cust-install.html . In addition to this if you were having any further issues or had any further questions please feel free to give us a call directly here at 1-877-887-1105 as we would be glad to help assist you!

Does it matter which side the fuse box is installed? We had a mechanic do an install of the new alternator and wire and he installed the fuse box near the alternator instead of near the battery like I would expect. Also, where should the wire be routed? He ran it along the valve cover, wasn't sure if there were heat issues with that or if that is normal? I don't recall where the OEM run was to be honest.

    • Typically you would want the fuse installed as close to the battery as possible as this maximizes the amount of wire that is protected. Routing can be done a number of ways, but this should be isolated from moving parts, metal parts, and heat to prevent issues. We strongly recommend the routing be corrected and the fuse be moved closer to the battery as soon as possible to prevent any chance of a fire.

I replaced my alternator in my 98 mustang gt with just another 130 watt alternator. I replaced the battery as well. My alternator is not giving enough power to the battery if any at all. I got the alternator tested and and it as well as the regulator is fine. Would this wiring help with the problem? If unknown would it work fine with a 130 watt alternator?

    • The PA Performance Premium Power Wire Kit may help with the issue you are experiencing, however we would recommend having the car checked by a mechanic to determine what is causing the issue.

I have an 08 Mustang GT 4.7 liter, I’m planning on upgrading the alternator and wiring to the 200 amp alt and performance wiring. Do I need to upgrade the battery as well to accommodate the higher power output of the alternator?

    • No, you wouldn't need to upgrade your battery with an upgraded alternator.

I need an 8ft power wire the mechanic that replaced my alternator said it wouldn't reach with my high output alternator that i had him install. Can i just buy an amp wire kit and fix this i guess or do you make a longer version?

    • At this time, we only offer the PA Performance Premium Power Wire Kit as a 4 foot kit. Any power cable with an appropriate power handling can be used, however you will need to determine what the cable can handle, as increasing the length from 4 feet to 8 feet will change how much amperage can be handled by the cable.

02 Mustang GT PA Performance Premium Pwr Wire kit

The quality of the product is grate but it came in missing the installation screws and the instructions. Good thing I am very educated in automotive technology but for a regular garage mechanics could be a little challenging.

PA Performance premium power wire ki

Easy install and a must have for that heavy duty alternator. You will see the difference all around. If you have upgraded your Alt you will need this. It will take you at the most a half hour to 45 minutes and most of that will be accessing the alternator and buttoning it up. Just drop the Alt, access the back wires, and then rerun your cable to positive. Great price from a great company. Thx AM,

Well constructed and does the job. Will not run inside the factory sheath. Leave all factory wires and run in parallel.

      Working great

2002 GT purchase a higher amp alternator and this power wire kit. The wire had plenty of length but I did have to splice wires back into the loom where it connects to the battery. So far 500 miles and no issues.

      Needs assembly

Its a good gauge of wire but its not 100 accurate of what is needed to install. Had to cut a wire and place it in another location for power besides the wire from the alternator.

      Wish it was longer

Just installed the upgraded cable with the 200 amp alternator. I wish the cable was about 6 inches longer coming out of the battery to the fuse block. Currently, I can not use self tapping screws to mount the cable/fuse holder to the frame, because it is currently sitting behind the battery. Other than that, works fine.

      PA Performance premium power wire.

I installed the PA Performance 200 amp altenator and premium power wire kit on my 2006 Mustang GT. These parts solved my “check charging system” issue that I was having. No more dim lights at idle! Excellent purchase for anyone. Very easy to install when installing altenator at the same time.
