Balances Exhaust Gases. The Pypes Catted X-Pipe is excellent when it comes to balancing out the gas pressures in your exhaust system. This Pypes x-pipe creates more power and torque than a traditional H-pipe. Why? Because the exiting exhaust pulses are merged at the "X", resulting in less exhaust back pressure for more power.

Race Car Growl. This free flowing Pypes x-pipe for the 1996 to 1998 GT's not only increases power, but it also adds a raspy, race car growl to the sound of your exhaust with its modern "X" crossover pipe design.

Modular Construction. Pypes unique three piece modular construction makes it quick and easy to add or remove catalytic converters to your exhaust system in just minutes, depending on your driving needs.

Durable Stainless Steel Construction. Pypes uses sturdy 16 gauge 409 stainless steel mandrel bent 2.5" tubing for improved exhaust flow and features welded reinforcement plates for additional strength. The included High flow catalytic converters far out perform the restrictive factory cats to provide a significant increase in horsepower and torque.

Application. This Pypes Catted X-pipe is designed to be a direct bolt-on for the 1996 to 1998 4.6L GT Mustangs with either aftermarket short tube headers or the factory manifolds and a dual catback exhaust installed.

I installed this pypes catted x-pipe on my 96 and my check engine light came showing code P0131, P0133. I replaced all 4 sensor and now a code P0420 catalytic is read. Do you know why

    • This may be due to an exhaust leak. Try looking for any exhaust leaks first. If there are no exhaust leaks it may have something to do with the cats which a shop should look at.

I have a 1996 gt mustang and looking for a catted x pipe that fits as good as possible. I am concerned about ground clearance and fitment. How does the Pypes system and bbk fit

    • As long as you have a 96-98 GT, and the diameter of whatever piping you are connecting with this are the same, then you should have no fitment or clearance issues and the Pypes Catted X-pipe (96-98 GT) will bolt right up!

CEL trigger? I've heard mixed results about a CEL resulting from installing a catted x-pipe. Is this an acceptable substitute for factory or will this prevent me from passing inspection from triggering a check engine light? Because I see no advantage if it does. 3 answers

Matched this Catted Offroad X mid pipe with the Magnaflow Magnapacs Competition cat back exhausts. It sounds great!! Nice deep tone and sounds amazing! Didn't come with the flange bolts. Other than that it is a great sounding system with a noticeable increase in power. Removing the 6 cats that were on my 97 GT Mustang 4.6L really opened the car up!

Clean and refined sound, but very little clearance under the car.

I had my X-pipe installed at a local garage. The Tech said it took nearly three hours to get it fitted and bolted up to my existing MAC Catback Exhaust. The exhaust note is good. Smooth on acceleration, with no rasp. The low end V8 Mustang signature rumble is present at idle. It's not loud like an off road set up but the Cats do make a difference in the overall volume compared to the factory set. It sounds more refined, a kind of a muffled effect that cuts out a lot of the high end rasp. Fitment is an issue. The Cats are a round shape and are nearly 4 1/2 inches in diameter. This a a problem because they do hang very low. My 98 GT is not lowered and the cats only have a 4 inch clearance from the ground. If you plan on lowering your suspension I'd recommend an exhaust that fits a little closer to the undercarriage. For the money it's a good alternative to a factory spec setup. I can't feel any noticeable HP gains but the car does accelerate a bit smoother plus it certainly sounds more aggressive. The best part of this kit is that the cats are removable If you do decide to go with an off road set up it's very quick and cheap to convert it.

      Pypes Catted X-Pipe

the Kit came packed so no dings or scratches occurred ( 1) 409 Stainless steel Pipes and Clamps ( 1) Direction's for install easy to follow ( 1), Great price ( 1), Losing one of the exhaust manifolds (-1) everything went together easily, i did a lazy install so it took me 1.5 days to do it, however if you are in a rush, it shouldn't take more than 3 hours to complete, it connected perfectly to my Borla Cat-back( 1) I had to put the cats on to pass State emissions and i am amazed at how quiet the car has become, it still lets people know you have something special and will help with the "Sleeper" vibe. I am very happy with this transaction and the product. I even passed emissions

      All around impressed.

I have never purchased an x pipe with cats before. I've never lived in a place that required emission testing. Now that I'm living in Denver, I have no choice. So I thought that I would be disappointed with the sound of the car with two cats installed. I was wrong. This product impressed me all around. The pipes look great and had ZERO fitment issues. They bolted right up with no problems. The cats are mirror polished stainless and look amazing. Once the old rusty system was removed, I was on a test drive within an hour. It also woke up the sound of the car. A lot throatier and noticeably louder, even with the cats installed. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to sound amazing, but needs to have cats installed.

louder but it works for the price

Needs a little bit of adjustments, the cats hit the transmission brace. So you have to adjust a little. But in the end the whoke thing was worth it. :) The hardest part was taking the old manifold off. Other than that, it takes about an hour to an hour and a half to install and fully weld.

When I looked under the car and saw SIX cats...they had to go. Installed this setup this morning, nice sound, a little louder, without that raspy noise. Better throttle response, and seems a little bit quicker too. The weight difference must play a part in it all too. Very happy, and recommend to anyone, like me, stuck in stuck up California or any other Smog Nazi state.
