    Review & Install Video

Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m going to be reviewing Pypes high flow cat system for all 1986-2010 Mustangs. These cats are going to be a great compromise for those of you who are required by law to run some sort of catalytic converter system yet still allow you to ditch those ultra restrictive factory cats for something that’s going to flow a lot better, making for more power and sound versus your stock cats. These are going to also be great for someone who might currently be running an offroad X or H pipe, and just wants to tone down that rasp a little bit. This system from Pypes features durable 409 polished stainless steel construction and a very small footprint. This is going to be great for those of you going with a custom exhaust setup, or those of you who might be lowered an inch or two, and won’t have to worry about scraping these over speed bumps. A very important thing to point out with this particular system is that it features a ceramic substrate material on the inside. This system should only be used if you’re naturally aspirated, if you’re forced induction, then you’ll definitely want to check out Pypes’ other system, which features a metallic substrate on the inside, which is far more suitable to handle those higher exhaust gas temperatures. Getting the cats installed should only take you about 2 hours using these two supplied clamps. However, depending on your exhaust setup, you might need to go to your local parts store, and just pick up a couple more clamps. So if you’d like to go to an off road X or H pipe but your local laws just won’t allow for it, or you just want to get rid of some of that excessive rasp with your aftermarket exhaust, without hurting your power, you’ll definitely want to check out a set of these affordable high flow cats from Pypes Performance.

High Flow. Are you looking to free up your restrictive stock exhaust, but are required by law to run Catalytic Converters? Then AmericanMuscle has the answer you need in the form of Pypes High Flow Ceramic Catalytic Converter Kit.

Easy swap at the track. Every car enthusiast knows that catalytic converters suck the lifeblood - horsepower - out of your engine. If you're running a Pypes modular x-pipe style configuration for track / racing purposes, these cats give you an easy way to be street legal when you leave the track.

Durable construction. These Pypes Mini Catalytic Converters are built from polished 409 stainless and feature a durable Ceramic substrate material making them perfect for naturally aspirated applications. They weigh in at 2.5 lbs each and only measure 11 inches in length.

Small Footprint. Installed, the Pypes catalytic converters have a very Small under-carriage footprint that only takes up a virtually invisible 7” in length making them perfect for custom applications.

Will pass most emissions tests. Pypes High Flow Ceramic Catalytic Converters will pass emissions testing procedures in most states. However, check your local and state ordinances for installation and usage regulations.

Application: The Pypes High Flow Ceramic Catalytic Converter Kit is designed for use with naturally aspirated Mustangs from 1986 to 2010. If you have a Mustang equipped with power adder check out the Pypes High Flow Metallic Catalytic Converter Kit.

I purchased these along with the off-road Pypes HPipes. After a few months of driving I got both a P0420 and P0430 code talking about the threshold isn't enough. Has anyone had issues with this? Also, what was the fix? My county does require emissions.

    Anonymous

    • I would say to have the car diagnosed because there are a few systems that can cause this code for example o2 sensors failing, failing catalytic converters, running rich. After knowing what is wrong then we can help find a solution.

i have a 2005 mustang gt i am running a off road delete cat system with a pypes xpipe with a pipes streight pipe muffler it is to loud and raspy. can i put set of these in behind the xpipe to reduce the rasp.

    JerryV

    • Installing the Pypes High Flow Ceramic Catalytic Converter Kit will help to slightly reduce the raspyness of the exhaust, as well as exhaust volume, however with an X pipe and straight through mufflers, this will always be a raspy setup.

what else do i need to make this work with a 2008 mustang v6 02 sensors? new cat to header hardware? or sensor extenders?

    mikem

    • Due to the design of the V6's exhaust, the Pypes High Flow Ceramic Catalytic Converter Kit will be difficult to install, and will require custom piping as well.

The chrome finish looked great and opened up the exhaust flow from those stock cats. No check engine light after install. Sounds great with the Flowmaster Outlaws.

      Turns Heads

I absolutely love these cats even though I have had them on for only two days now. They added some rasp to the exhaust tone at 2-3k rpms. I'm pretty sure the neighbors don't like me now but that's fine. These cats really make your mustang louder since the factory cats are quite restrictive. These catalytic converters seem high flow as I could see through them barley. I would recommend getting a trusted exhaust shop to install these as other shops may not replace them exactly where the original cats came off. However, I don't notice a performance gain but I do notice and love the exhaust sound. I would recommend these to anyone who has a 3v mustang or any other mustang.

      Quick and easy install

These cats are perfect for anyone with straight collector on their headers. I have pacesetter long tubes on my 06’ V6 and these fit perfectly. Really glad I didn’t have to do any fabrication to clamp these in, the headers were hard enough.

Car was too raspy with off road x pipe. High flows gave my car a nice tone and is still loud! And not to mention got more torque..i guess back pressure is a real thing.

      Awesome replacement!!!

This product is the best. I'd had my stang with some cats and they were restraining it. After I installed some long header and x-pipe those got delete. I've drove it like that for couple of months until state inspection came by. The former to put some cats. So I found these which they performed on my stang almost like it doesn't have any, but slightly less louder. As for the price well, they're somewhat pricy. I'd also got the extension cord for the O2 sensors which I end up not using the, cuz they just got installed in the original spot.

      Cats for emissions!

Bought the o/r x-pipe and was happy with the sound but due to the new emission laws in Mass. Was forced to install new high flow cats or the original 6. Took me no time to install. Only problem I have is they are rubbing on the crossmember, just need to get it on a lift and adjust it properly. Still sounds good but will be upgrading to a new cat back system in the spring.

      Too quiet

My BBK high flow cats went bad after a year. I decided to give these a try and I was disappointed. My car went from a roar of a lion to a purr of a cat. I miss that sound. Going to buy a different brand.

My mechanic felt they were not high flow enough to justify the cost of the install. He mentioned he would have to fabricate some pipe, whereas they are advertised as bolt-on.

I was really thinking that this wasn't going to sound good because I didn't want to lose the sound of my roar but I was wrong and I'm glad I bought these cats. Would recommend but that's just me. Had I a cousin install and wield. Took him about an hour and a half.

      Eh

The Pypes High Flow Catalytic Converter Kit was safely packaged and came to me with no issues. The only issue with this purchase for me is I don't know if it was the shop that installed the product or the product itself, but my exhaust system sounds totally different. It sounds really raspy and annoying. I love loud cars, but something happened and the deep rumble I had before is gone.

      Car needed cats

Did a motor swap putting in a cobra drivetrain in my v-6 chassis . Should have known it needed cats. Product looks great. Fully polished. Will need back half of exhaust swedged to 2 1/2 inside diameter or just butt weld. Front of cat is 2 1/2 inside diameter. Dont care if it functions, just need to pass a visual

      Good purchase

They cost more to install than was quoted to me because of where the original cats were located. They definitely added a louder sound but a little more raspy to to my flowmaster axelback that i put on a year ago. Would have given a 5 if not so costly to have put on. But that might have been for any cats due to that downward placement coming off the headers.
