Review & Installation Video

Hey everybody, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com. Welcome to the breakdown and sound clips of the Pypes Off-Road H-Pipe, available for your 2005 to 2010 Mustang GT. Swapping out your factory mid-pipe in favor of an aftermarket option is not only a great way to pick up some power, but can also totally transform the way your Mustang sounds. Now when deciding on a mid-pipe for your own ride, you do have a couple of different options. For instance, we can go with an off-road X-pipe or H-pipe like we have here, which is going to be devoid of any catalytic converters. On the other hand you can go with a catted mid-pipe, which will incorporate some kind of small, high-flow cat into the design. In addition to that, you will have to choose whether you want an H-pipe or an X-pipe. Traditionally you can expect a slightly raspier exhaust note when going with an X-pipe, and it's going to produce some slightly higher top-end horsepower gains. On the other hand, the H-pipe, like I do have with me here today, is going to give you that lower muscle car rumble, it's going to help reduce some of the rasp, and it should produce some slightly lower torque gains. Now, ultimately, guys, it's up to you to decide which mid-pipe you want to go with and what style you're looking for, for your own ride.Getting into some of the details here with this H-pipe from Pypes, you will notice 2 1/2-inch mandrel bent stainless steel tubing for the build, in addition to all your O2 bungs, which have already been pre-welded for you. Now, one thing I do like about this H-pipe from Pypes, is that it is a modular design, meaning there's a few different pieces. So if you ever wanted to switch out the cat-less portion here, for sort of the pipe's high-flow cats, well, you can do so. And you can get more info on those on the product page. Now, whenever doing a mid-pipe video, I do want to remind you guys that this is a full-length mid-pipe. And what that means is it's only going to fit 3-valve cars with the stock headers still in place or an aftermarket pair of shorty headers. Now, if you are looking to do a long tube/mid-pipe combo, then you might want to check out Pypes' other version of this same exact H-pipe, but the shorty version, which is designed to work with a long tube setup.Install is going to be slightly more involved than an axleback, for instance, but overall it really isn't all that bad, say maybe two hours from start to finish, using basic hand tools. Now, keep in mind, guys, most of this install will be done underneath the car, so just make sure you have your jack or jack stands ready or race ramps if that's an option. So if you guys are looking to add both power and sound to your 3-valve GT for a very affordable price, then be sure to check out the Pypes Off-Road H-Pipe, right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Improves Flow For More Power. Add even more horsepower and torque to your 4.6L GT Mustang by eliminating those power robbing factory catalytic converters with a brand new Pypes Off Road H-Pipe. The Pypes off-road H-pipe will significantly improve your Mustang's exhaust flow for a notable increase in horsepower and torque.

Muscle Car Rumble. This free flowing Pypes h-pipe for the 2005 to 2010 Mustang GT not only increases power, but it also adds a deep muscle car rumble to the sound of your exhaust with its classic "H" crossover pipe design.

Modular Construction. Pypes unique three piece modular construction makes it quick and easy to add or remove catalytic converters to your exhaust system in just minutes, depending on your driving needs.

Durable Stainless Steel Construction. Pypes uses sturdy 16 gauge 409 stainless steel mandrel bent 2.5" tubing for improved exhaust flow and features welded reinforcement plates for additional strength.

Application. This Pypes Off-Road H-pipe is designed to be a direct bolt-on for the 2005 to 2010 4.6L GT Mustangs with either aftermarket short tube headers or the factory manifolds and a dual catback exhaust installed. Intended for off-road, track use only, does not include catalytic converters.

Will this work with stock tubing and after market axle backs? I want to install this in my brother's '08 GT. We want to buy an axle back kit and an off road H pipe and retain the remainder of the stock tubing. Is this possible?

      • Sure, you can install this O/R H-pipe between your stock manifolds and the flow tubes that would attach to the GT axle-back of your choice. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to give us a call!

I have a 05 GT with stock headers and a Kooks cat-back exhaust. Will this Pypes mid pipe work with the setup that I have? If it does, do I need a tune?

      • The Pypes Off-Road H-Pipe would work with this setup. A Tune would be required to disable toe cats and prevent P0430 and P0420 codes for catalyst efficiency

Sound If I keep my factory cats in place and just install the h-pipe without the cat delete pipes, will the h-pipe still deepen my exhaust note and give my car more of the old school muscle car rumble that it is supposed to give?

      • You will notice a slight increase in sound with the better flowing mid pipe but your catalytic converters are really what is restricting the air flow and keeping the exhaust quiet. You will not see a real increase in volume or change in tone by just using the H pipe.

fitment can I use this on my V6 aslong as I have the mid pipes

      • If your v6 exhaust has been converted to a true dual system then you should be able to use this h-pipe. Just know any time you buy aftermarket exhaust parts, there is a chance the part won't fit perfectly and you may have to do some custom cutting or other custom work to get a perfect fit.

Adding/Removing Catalytic Converters I'd like to run this setup with the Pypes ceramic cats. However, I would like to be able to remove the cats from time to time. So here's my question(s): Just how easy is it to add/remove the cats? It seems like removing the catalytic converters would leave a gap in the exhaust system... wouldn't you need short straight-through pipes in their place?

      • Yes, it would leave a gap, you would have to keep the additional pipe area (that was initially cut out) and clamp it back in to place with 2 clamps when the catalytics are not being used.

          A bit loud

The install took the longest. Once I got the hang of them It moved along. The instructions could've been worded a little better. For those who cant change oil it would've been a difficult DIY. With it installed it sounds just like a drag car. So muffler deletes is not a setup you want to go with these. I prefer some types of mufflers for the drone or even purchase some with cats preinstalled. The quality are comparable too kooks; but hey kooks are kooks hard to even come close to them. As of now they get 3 stars. Not a bad brand just the install and Instructions layout that's my only issue.

this pipe blew me away. If you are straight piped, right when you throttle around 2k and 3k RPMs you're going to hear an amazing tone!

          Hello v8

I had mbrp muffler delete pros, and I wanted a louder set up. I went with the off road h pipe over the x pipe because I was told it would be less rapsy. While my new set up is a lot louder the quality of sound was awful. If you’re buying this product I would highly recommend axle backs containing some kind of muffler. I just ordered borla stingers to replace my muffler delete axle backs. Wish me luck

H-pipe has the loud old muscle car sound

This H-pipe has a phenomenal growl after 3k rpm. Little to no drone under 2500rpm. I absolutely love the sound.

Totally worth it. The sound and performance are great, it's built very well. Only downside is the check engine light but if that doesn't bother you than it's a must to make your car sound amazing.

          Best Cat-less H-Pipe There Is!

I bought this not really knowing a whole lot about it. I knew I wanted to remove my cats, but i was not sure how much the sound would transform. The car now drives like it has a lot more to it. It sounds perfect. I have this paired up with Magnaflow mufflers (not sure which ones). My car sounds good at idle, and really gets loud above 4,000 RPM. super good for the money, Definitely worth the buy!

          Awesome deep sound

The off road h pipe creates such a deeper more loud sound for my 09 mustang. Perfect note that I was expecting. Cruising speed it isn’t over bearing, but when you get after it on the pedal, it will meet your expectations.

          Nice Sounding H pipe

This off-road H pipe sounds much better than the off-road X pipe way too much Raspe with the X pipe I bought the H pipe and it is interchangeable with the downpipe‘s from the X pipe kit so you don’t have to mess with your manifolds to change them over They should be welded to gather though because the 50 Cent clamp they send it with to connect the ag they should be welded to gather though because the 50 Cent clamp they send with to connect the H to gather is a piece of junk so you will either need to buy a heavy duty clamp or have it welded together other than that everything fit well not as much horsepower on the top end as the X pipe but much better sound

          Wow great product

I was a little worried how it was gonna sound way to loud with my Flowmaster outlaw axle backs but to my surprise it’s not that bad but it is loud! Absolutely love the sound. Sounds like a classic muscle car. Had a hard time taking out the old H because I didn’t have a the appropriate deep sockets. Make sure you prop the H while installing like the instructions say. I failed in doing that and it sprung and leak. Which I hope I fixed. Was skeptical on the hangers because I don’t have rubber mounts to attach it anywhere. Oh well. Definitely recommend if you don’t want X pipe rasp/exotic sound.

Woah! A little overboard with Flowmaster Outlaws.

Mods I currently have: Airaid CAI, this new Pypes Off-Road H-Pipe (cat-delete), and Flowmaster Outlaw Axle-Back/Corsa Xtreme Axle-Back Mufflers. Everything else is stock. I replaced my Flowmasters with the Corsas strictly due to the drone at 1.5-2k RPM. I put the Flowmasters back on when I installed the H-Pipe to see how they will sound together (strictly to see if the drone would die-down with the louder rumble of the H-Pipe. I have to say that I think it did a bit!). Now for the H-Pipe itself.. WOW! I thought the Flowmasters alone were a bit too loud. This Mid-Pipe makes the mustang SCREAM. I would be careful getting these if you have a fairly loud pair of mufflers like the Flowmaster Outlaws; you will definitely have eyes on you (some you don't want ;D). The rumble at idle is definitely a lot more noticeable and I LOVE it! Cold-starts are definitely going to wake a neighborhood up. I plan to put the Corsas back on soon to see how those sound with this H-Pipe. I will update this review when that happens (if possible). Now for the install, it took me several hours. There is a bolt the stock H-Pipe is connected to (passenger side) the header, and that alone took me about an hour to try to figure out how to get it out. I had to get an 18 or 24 inch ratchet extension to get it (AM's guide says a 10 inch extension should work, but it didn't for me). That was the hardest part of the install. In the end, this H-Pipe is VERY loud compared to the stock H-Pipe. For $180-200, it is definitely a bang for your buck. Again, be careful if you already have a fairly loud pair of mufflers (it is a little overboard with this H-Pipe addition!). Stay safe, friends!
