Review & Installation Video

Hey everybody, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com. Welcome to the breakdown and sound clips of the Pypes Off-Road H-Pipe, available for your 2005 to 2010 Mustang GT. Swapping out your factory mid-pipe in favor of an aftermarket option is not only a great way to pick up some power, but can also totally transform the way your Mustang sounds. Now when deciding on a mid-pipe for your own ride, you do have a couple of different options. For instance, we can go with an off-road X-pipe or H-pipe like we have here, which is going to be devoid of any catalytic converters. On the other hand you can go with a catted mid-pipe, which will incorporate some kind of small, high-flow cat into the design. In addition to that, you will have to choose whether you want an H-pipe or an X-pipe. Traditionally you can expect a slightly raspier exhaust note when going with an X-pipe, and it's going to produce some slightly higher top-end horsepower gains. On the other hand, the H-pipe, like I do have with me here today, is going to give you that lower muscle car rumble, it's going to help reduce some of the rasp, and it should produce some slightly lower torque gains. Now, ultimately, guys, it's up to you to decide which mid-pipe you want to go with and what style you're looking for, for your own ride. Getting into some of the details here with this H-pipe from Pypes, you will notice 2 1/2-inch mandrel bent stainless steel tubing for the build, in addition to all your O2 bungs, which have already been pre-welded for you. Now, one thing I do like about this H-pipe from Pypes, is that it is a modular design, meaning there's a few different pieces. So if you ever wanted to switch out the cat-less portion here, for sort of the pipe's high-flow cats, well, you can do so. And you can get more info on those on the product page. Now, whenever doing a mid-pipe video, I do want to remind you guys that this is a full-length mid-pipe. And what that means is it's only going to fit 3-valve cars with the stock headers still in place or an aftermarket pair of shorty headers. Now, if you are looking to do a long tube/mid-pipe combo, then you might want to check out Pypes' other version of this same exact H-pipe, but the shorty version, which is designed to work with a long tube setup. Install is going to be slightly more involved than an axleback, for instance, but overall it really isn't all that bad, say maybe two hours from start to finish, using basic hand tools. Now, keep in mind, guys, most of this install will be done underneath the car, so just make sure you have your jack or jack stands ready or race ramps if that's an option. So if you guys are looking to add both power and sound to your 3-valve GT for a very affordable price, then be sure to check out the Pypes Off-Road H-Pipe, right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Improves Flow For More Power. Add even more horsepower and torque to your 4.6L GT Mustang by eliminating those power robbing factory catalytic converters with a brand new Pypes Off Road H-Pipe. The Pypes off-road H-pipe will significantly improve your Mustang's exhaust flow for a notable increase in horsepower and torque.

Muscle Car Rumble. This free flowing Pypes h-pipe for the 2005 to 2010 Mustang GT not only increases power, but it also adds a deep muscle car rumble to the sound of your exhaust with its classic "H" crossover pipe design.

Modular Construction. Pypes unique three piece modular construction makes it quick and easy to add or remove catalytic converters to your exhaust system in just minutes, depending on your driving needs.

Durable Stainless Steel Construction. Pypes uses sturdy 16 gauge 409 stainless steel mandrel bent 2.5" tubing for improved exhaust flow and features welded reinforcement plates for additional strength.

Application. This Pypes Off-Road H-pipe is designed to be a direct bolt-on for the 2005 to 2010 4.6L GT Mustangs with either aftermarket short tube headers or the factory manifolds and a dual catback exhaust installed. Intended for off-road, track use only, does not include catalytic converters.

Will this work with stock tubing and after market axle backs? I want to install this in my brother's '08 GT. We want to buy an axle back kit and an off road H pipe and retain the remainder of the stock tubing. Is this possible?

Jln5685

  • Sure, you can install this O/R H-pipe between your stock manifolds and the flow tubes that would attach to the GT axle-back of your choice. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to give us a call!

I have a 05 GT with stock headers and a Kooks cat-back exhaust. Will this Pypes mid pipe work with the setup that I have? If it does, do I need a tune?

Eddie

  • The Pypes Off-Road H-Pipe would work with this setup. A Tune would be required to disable toe cats and prevent P0430 and P0420 codes for catalyst efficiency

Adding/Removing Catalytic Converters I'd like to run this setup with the Pypes ceramic cats. However, I would like to be able to remove the cats from time to time. So here's my question(s): Just how easy is it to add/remove the cats? It seems like removing the catalytic converters would leave a gap in the exhaust system... wouldn't you need short straight-through pipes in their place?

Preston

  • Yes, it would leave a gap, you would have to keep the additional pipe area (that was initially cut out) and clamp it back in to place with 2 clamps when the catalytics are not being used.

Why do you need the tapered sleeve for the off-road h-pipe? 05-10 GT. I thought the flared end would fit right up to headers/manifold. Just another place for exhaust leak

KeithB

  • The Pypes Off-Road H-Pipe utilizes reducers to provide a smooth transmission when using stock headers. With aftermarket headers these are not needed due to a larger opening in the manifold flange. We have not received any reports of leaks at these reducers.

Is MBRP Pro-Series Muffler-Delete Axle-Back Exhaust compatible with the Pypes off-road H-pipe?

DannyT

  • This Pypes Off-Road H-Pipe connects to the stock cat-back and its compatibility with an axle-back does not correlate. As long as the axle back works with the stock cat-back, it will work well with this mid-pipe.

will this throw a check engine light? if so where do I go to get the code scrubbed and how much will it cost. only 18 and new to car modding

NickM

  • Anytime doing an off-road mid-pipe will cause a check engine light. A way to erase this code will be a custom tune for your car. See below for a link to a tuner that will work for you! https://www.americanmuscle.com/bama-revx-tuner-sct-2customtunes-0510gt.html

    $209 of SOUND and POWER

The Pypes Off-Road H-Pype is unbelievable! The sound of my exhaust note is now amazing! It even adds low end power (extra horses) to give my mustang a little more giddy-up. Nonetheless, the focus of this product in my opinion should be around the exhaust note. Previously, I installed axle-back and cat-back exhaust systems, but was never really satisfied with the exhaust note. Too add to my anger, my friends new 2011 5.0 with Bassani axle-backs consistently diverted all of the attention away from my 2010 stang. HOWEVER!!! The Pypes Off-Road H-Pipe has revived my baby!!! The sound is so NASTY! EVERYONE'S HEAD TURNS! BIKERS, SOCCER MOMS, EVERYONE! My buddies 2011 5.0 only looks good now. To be honest, in order to get a great exhaust sound, all you need to really do is install this H-Pipe. Everything else can be factory and it will still scream! Youtube and other videos barely give these things justice. P.S. I am not a mechanic and therefore chose to have my H-Pipe installed at a shop. Do not pay over $100 for installation. Some mechanics and body shops will quote it being a 2 to 3 hour job requiring north of $200. This is a flat-out untruth. I had a PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC install mine for $80 in 1 hour. This was while he installed my H-Pipe and answered the shop phone.

    Holy Smokes She's Loud!

Great product especially for the money. I was definitely skeptical at first as I have never gone with Pypes for any of my exhaust needs on any of my Stangs. However I am very impressed with this add. Not only is it very well priced but with a tune from Bama you can definitely noticed a pretty significant power gain and obviously the sound is amazing! It does have a big of a raspiness to it but it has settled down somewhat now that the exhaust is a little broken in. As far as install goes it went off without a hitch. The clamps provided are of good quality and you just re-use the factory bands for where the pipe meets the tail end of the factory exhaust! As far as paying the extra $40 for the extended O2 Sensors, I really don't see the point. The O2 sensors on mine were not a problem whatsoever and the pipe fit like a glove! Can't wait to do the headers next! Thanks AM for selling a great product and getting it to me fast!

Installed with my existing SLP Loudmouth axleback

This system really opened up my exhaust with a whole new sound! Really loud!! It's easy enough to cruise through a neighborhood or past a cop when needed just but throwing it in neutral or up shifting to stay in low rpm's. Start up in the morning or at night is a bit too loud for my neighbors- so they have complained already on day 3 lol; they will live though. Just need to get a tune now so the check engine light will go off! Very simple!

    Pypes Off Road H Pipe

I got these a few days ago, and put them on this morning. Fit like a glove, all parts included, great finish, great packaging. As for sound, I have stock manifolds, the O/R H, and SSS Terminators. Sounds mean, heads turn. As for cruising, at 60 mph in 5th you wouldn't even know exhaust work was done, very quiet for cruising. Coasting in Neutral you can get past the police. WOT, the world will know you are coming. I would definitely recommend this for someone wanting to increase sound, and lose about 8 lbs.

    H-pipe review

I had an x pipe on my car previously and I will say, hands down, the H pipe has a way better sound. If you are on the fence about what to get, read no farther, get the H pipe! I don't know why all the aftermarket companies are so bent on making X pipes, the H sounds soo much better, I can't say it enough.

    Great loud sound!

I love the sound of my exhaust now and I can't stop driving my car. I've got this paired up with my MAC exhaust and man does it sound great. I knew this was perfect when I first started it up and my wife looks at me and says," Oh man...our neighbors are going to hate us." I also loved the fact this product came in 4 pieces which made installation a piece of cake.

    Easy Install - LOUD

Very easy to install in a personal garage on a creaper/lying on my back. I also added the Pypes High Flow Metalic Catalytic converters. This configuration changed the volume and tone dramatically.....even with stock Flowmaster mufflers still installed. As my son put it, we are going for 'Smiles Per Gallon,' right.......and these will put a smile on your face.....maybe not your neighbors. Be sure to soak all bolts that you will be removing with penetrating oil and allow it to do it's job. I sprayed them the night before I started the work. A second set of hands is also helpful, especially removing the stock H-pipe that is all one piece. Without the cats, these things will be pure race car volume. Need a thumbs up icon here.

    Extremely Loud

I was pretty excited when I ordered my H-pipe. I researched and read all of the reveiws on this site a few times. Obviously I was expecting loud, especially since I already have an slp loudmouth exhaust. After reading the reveiws I went ahead and bought it. Install is pretty easy. If you have a lift it should take no more than a few hours. You may want to think about welding as the clamps that are provided are a little loose. I decided not to weld until I was absoluetely sure I was going to keep them. After the install I fired it up. WOW it was loud. I loved the start up sound. It sounded pretty mean. It idled quite nicely and wasnt much louder then the set-up I had before. Now for the negatives. Yes I like loud but this is just obnoxious. I slowly drove out of the parking lot and as soon as you go past 2000rpm it just fires up. Dont get me wrong I knew what I was getting into and was expecting loud but c'mon. 2000rpm and it sounds like Im punching it. Driving down the road it sounded like I didnt know how to drive manual and I was always in the wrong gear. Their is a big difference between a ahead turner and a head shake turner. Blocks down the road I could see people looking at me like I was an idiot. If you live around neighbours you will get some pretty nasty looks as well. Just starting it up early in the morning would wake them up 5 houses down the block. The sound is very comparible to a ricer which is not what I want for a 300hp v8. You really do lose the v8 sound as its drowned out by a loud raspy tone. I went back to the shop the next day and had it removed. American Muscle was great to deal with as always and through no fault of anyones but my own Im just not satisfied with the product. I realize everyone of these reveiws will tell you different but TRUST ME!, if this is your daily driver then you will not like the sound. Think of your everyday lifestyle and ask yourself if you want to "be that guy" Hope this reveiw helps.

Really frees up the top end!

If you want more top end out of your 4.6 this part is what you need. Yes, it significantly increases the volume of your exhaust and I would suggest not to use with chambered mufflers, it just didn't sound "right"

    a must have!!

I thought my mustang sounded good before. I was wrong. My 05gt sounds bada** now. It's actually quieter in the cabin of the car when I'm going slow or below 3000rpm, but past 3500 and my car SCREAMS!! If you want a louder, more aggressive sounding ride, take my word and buy these now. Don't think twice, just do it.

    Pypes off road h pipe

The h pipe was shipped out quickly and packaged well. Install was easy but it needs a better clamp for the center. Got it together and it was leaking at center connection. To have the best results it probably should be welded, which is what I'm doing with mine. As for sound it really opened the car up. I have Bassani axle back and they really woke up . Has a great sound. Took the afternoon because I didn't have proper tools (extension and swivel) to get factory h pipe off.

    Holy Loud

If you are looking to give your car that loud aggressive sound, buy this H-pipe as soon as you can. I'm running no cats, with SLP loudmouth exhaust tips and it is ungodly loud. It's the "hey look at my kind of exhaust". Would recommend getting high flow cats if you have muffler deletes to get rid of some of the raspiness. Overall this H-pipe for the money is for sure a great investment and will not disappoint!

    Great Sound!

If you are looking for that deep old school muscle sound, this is as close as it comes at only $212. I have Pypes axel-back violators to go with this, along with stock manifolds and can't say how great the sound is, it will turn heads. No need for anything extra, the O2 sensors fit just perfect. I had a shop do the install since my previous exhaust was all welded and I didn't trust myself cutting. The shop stated to give it at least 50 miles to adjust to the new tune and new pipes and the 'smell' would reduce. I already hit 100 miles after install and the smell has greatly reduced. Video's really don't do a lot of justice and it really determines what mufflers you have to get the sound you actually want.

Pypes Offroad H-Pipe Slp Loudmouth Axleback

So, after having trouble with the exhaust manifold stud and stripping it due to being so rusted, I eventually bought a new one and just got the exhaust all done, finally! :) I have the Pypes Offroad H-Pipe paired with the SLP Loudmouth Axleback (Muffler Deletes). Everything's done, matter of turning to the key to hear what it sounds like. I have never seen my buddy jump so high as it starts up and just BARKS! Idle is very loud, but does quiet down after a bit. As far as driving, anything over 1750 rpm is just ABSOLUTELY INSANE! 3rd gear going 30km a little throttle tap and broke the necks of a bunch of kids. If you don't like a LOUD and RASPY car I will have to say this isn't for you. But if your the kind of guy that likes to be looked at for having that loud mustang in town... You've come to the right place! Fit and finish was amazing! Taking the old exhaust off was the hardest part from all the rust and what not. Putting on new one was about 2 hours in the garage. By far the best $400 a Canadian could spend!!
