      Video Review & Installation

Hey, guys. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and installing the SR Performance 130 Amp Alternator for 1999 to 2014 GT Mustangs. This is gonna be a perfect option so those of you out there who are looking for an alternator replacement at a very budget-friendly price. Costing right about $100, this is currently the most budget-friendly option on the website. It's a brand new unit, it's not remanufactured and it is 130 amp alternator. It comes complete with a six groove pulley and an internal voltage regulator. It is the 6G series and of course, it's 12-volt compatible.I'm gonna call the install a two out of three wrenches in the difficulty meter and we'll go ahead and show you how to install it now. For this install, we used a 3/8-drive cordless ratcheting wrench, a 1/2-inch breaker bar, a small flathead screwdriver, a ratcheting 10-millimeter wrench, a small extension, a 13-millimeter socket, a 10-millimeter socket, and an 8-millimeter socket. All right. So, our first step is gonna be to disconnect our battery so we're gonna go ahead and take an 8-millimeter socket and remove our negative battery terminal here. All right. So, we're just gonna put a rag underneath here just so we don't make a connection by accident. So, the next step is to actually remove our belt from our alternator pulley here. In order to do that, we have a little guard down here that's guarding our belt tensioner. So, what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna remove the guard on the belt tensioner, then I'll release the belt tensioner so we can just pull the belt off of our alternator pulley here. We're not gonna completely remove it from the car, we're just gonna slide it off and set it down on top of the pulley right below it. So, I have a 13-millimeter socket, I'm gonna go ahead and remove the two nuts that are holding our guard in place. And now we can pull this off. And now we have access to our belt tensioner. All right, guys, so what I have here is a 1/2-inch breaker bar and the 1/2-inch breaker bar goes right into your tensioner. So, what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna push down on the tensioner, it's gonna release tension on the belt I'll be able to pull it off the alternator pulley. All right. And then we can pull it off of our alternator pulley here and I'm gonna to set it just right below the alternator and leave the belt in place. All right. So, next, we're gonna remove these two top bolts here as well as the two bottom bolts. Our two top bolts on this car are an 8-millimeter. So, we'll go ahead, grab those, and we'll grab the two bottoms. All right, so these two bottom bolts are 10-millimeters, so we swapped our 8-millimeter socket for a 10-millimeter one. All right. We have one more 10-millimeter nut we'll need to remove. This is the one that you really want to make sure the battery is disconnected for so just double check, make sure your battery is disconnected before you grab this one. We'll pull the nut off and we'll be able to remove the wire here. And then all that's left before you can remove this alternator is our gray electrical plug over here. All right. So, we use our flathead, push our tab down, and try to wiggle our plug out of place. All right. And now we can remove our alternator. All right. So, now we are ready to install our new alternator so we'll go ahead, get this in its place. All right. So, we're gonna start our top bolts here, just to get our alternator in the correct spot. Not gonna tighten them down yet. All right. So, I'm gonna tighten these a little bit just so I can get the bottom bolt holes lined up. You'll need to pull the alternator up some but I'm definitely not gonna tighten these down all the way so I can have a little bit of wiggle room to line up the bottom bolts. All right. So, now we'll get our bottom bolts into place. Just gonna start both of these by hand. All right. Now, we'll tighten down our top bolts on the bracket here and then we can tighten the bottom bolts. All right. So I'm gonna start with a ratcheting wrench just until we get past the pulley because I can't get my socket on right now. All right. Now I can get my socket on, so I'm gonna go ahead and switch back to my cordless ratchet. All right, so I've got my 1/2-inch breaker bar back in. I'm gonna release tension on the belt and all I'm going to do is just slide it over the pulley and get it back into the place. All right. So, we need to make our connections back up here again, so we have a new 10-millimeter nut. So, we'll go ahead, pull that off of our new alternator. You guys want to make sure that this is at the correct angle so it's seated flush. I did route this underneath the alternator bracket. So, like I said, just be mindful of how this is sitting. Gonna go ahead and tighten it down now. Then we'll put our cap back on and plug in our electrical connection. Then after that, the only thing we'll need to do is reconnect our battery. All right, guys, that's gonna wrap up this review and install. Keep in mind that you can always check this out more online right here at americanmuscle.com.
