    Review & Install Video

Hey, guys Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com here with my review of the SR Performance Rear Shock Tower Brace in chrome for all 2005 to 2014 Mustangs. The SR Performance Rear Shock Tower Brace is a little piece of the suspension puzzle that can help to just tie everything together and take some flex out of the body and provide some good looks for the trunk. The shock tower brace is really just to reinforce the chassis. Taking any flex out of the body, even if it's only a little bit, can only be a good thing. Reducing some flex and giving some reinforcement here can help to improve traction, which means better and faster handling capabilities not just from a launch but also in the corners. Having crisp handling always makes for a more fun driving experience. Improved traction only means a quicker feeling car. You're definitely going to notice the shock tower brace any time you pop your trunk. The fact that this is a nice bright chrome brace is a nice feature. If you aren't really into the chrome look, SR Performance does offer the same brace in black as well. The black version's going to cost a little less, too. If you have a show car, the fact that these braces have a nice look in the trunk is just a plus. One thing to keep in mind here is that you won't notice a drastic change in handling from this brace alone. It does offer a little benefit, but it's not a night and day situation unless you do something like tie the brace into a cage. Then, you can expect a huge difference in rigidity. But like a lot of other suspension parts, a shock tower brace is only one component of the suspension. The improvements of the brace can be even more considerable when you start pairing it with other suspension mods. Once you start making other suspension upgrades, the shock tower brace will work to keep everything tied together and feeling tight and more stable. This means overall more consistent suspension no matter what you're doing with your car. As far as price, there's the difference between the chrome and black brace from SR Performance, but neither are going to break the bank. The chrome option costs just over $170 and the black version is about $25 less, so $150. If we move on to the install, this is an easy install that anyone is able to tackle by themselves in the driveway or the garage and should take less than an hour to complete. I'm going to call it a one out of three wrenches on the scale, but I will say that I've heard of some fitment issues with this brace. It will not fit the Stangs with the Shaker sound systems and there may be some modifications to make in order for the install to be completed. This is on top of the trunk liner that will need to be trimmed if you follow the instructions. As far as tools, you won't need anything crazy here, just a few wrenches and a blade for the cutting. The spare tire cover will need to be removed. Move the fabric covers out of the way so the nut and stud are showing on each side. Just loosen these on both sides and replace the spare tire cover and install the brace. It simply just slides over the studs. The flange nuts with rubber grommets go back onto the studs. This is where you might need to do some modification to get the brace to sit properly. You may need to bend some of the fingers on the brace to get it to fit right, but that's about it. The fabric covers can go back into place and you can cut some of the fabric away to allow for a better fit. It's really up to you. That's all it's going to take to get this installed. Wrapping things up here, the SR Performance Rear Shock Tower Brace works to take a little bit of the flexibility out of the body of the car and reinforce the chassis, which makes for better traction and improved handling. It works really well when tied into other suspension supports and it's very easy to install. You have a choice of chrome or black and you can check it out more online right here at americanmuscle.com.

Improves Handling Performance. Improve your S197 Mustang's handling performance by reinforcing your rear shock towers with a SR Performance rear shock tower brace. I have a 2006 Mustang GT with the factory shaker 500 sound system. Is it true that this bar will not work in my trunk?

    • The SR Performance Rear Shock Tower Brace will not work with the Factory Shaker 1000 Sound system. The Shaker 500 should work with this brace. I would double check fitment in your trunk to make sure your shaker system isn't on top of where the strut brace would be installed.

      First impression is a yes!

Just installed and did a test run. First impression is yes this does exactly what it should. It's not a night and day change but it is absolutely a big piece of the puzzle in a convertible. Runs through "S" turns with no tail dip or twist feeling and car is stable and solid at 100 straight line with no float. Very happy with this 45 minute bolt on piece. Looks pretty darn good too.

Review from SR Performance Rear Shock Tower Brace - Black (05-14 All)

      SR Rear Shock Tower Brace

Not so easy an install to get the pressed nut/bushing combo that's fitted to my early manufactured (5/12) 2013 V-6 coupe off the shock towers to mount the brace. Had to call in a friend who is a real car mechanic to help. After that, the brace went on easy and fits nice without any further fuss. Now that I have a stock Ford brace in front, and this one in back, the car seems to move as one unit through S-turns and those long sweeping entrances and exits on the interstate. Less body lean and roll, really stiffened up the frame. Glad I bought this particular SR model, rather than a less expensive single rod-type brace. Spend the extra money and get this one!

      This works!!!

After installing the SR Performance Black Strut Tower Brace and being very happy with the way that works, I decided to complete the suspension upgrade by installing the SR Performance Rear Shock Tower Brace. The handling was already greatly improved with the addition of the front Strut tower brace, but with the addition of the rear shock tower brace, now the car handles even better. These two braces definitely work better together, so if you are looking to improve your cars handling, you wont go wrong with these two.

      SR Rear Shock Tower Brace

I was skeptical of how big a difference this modification could make, but after install and serveral test drives— I am a believer. My 2014 GT handles better around corners and at higher speeds has less body role. The car feels more solid overall with the addition of this part. Well worth the money.

      Rear Shock tower

I have Mustang 2010 Gt . 4.6 liter v8 with Track package 5 speed . It feel completely Awesome Front/ back tower together. Mustang like driving new sportscar. Shifts gears , slowing down' sharp turns . mustang hugs the road responds quickly behind wheel, bumps in road are more balanced. This was a good decision ! Driving this car is excitement. Im not drag racer .I enjoy weekends crewing for long rides, When I get the Mustang up speed. It like arrow in the wind. Rolling window down shifting through turns is sharper then before. Excellent way to enjoy my Mustang Gt.

Took MAYBE 10 mins to install. Along with another 5 mins for the matching front strut brace. Really helped improve how predictable the car is around corners and while drifting. I say it's a good buy.

This is an easy way to stiffen the rear suspension. There is a noticeable improvement in handeling, cornering with more predicable control. I needed to saw away some of the shaker sub woofer case to fit.

Review from SR Performance Rear Shock Tower Brace - Black (05-14 All)

      Worth the Effort and Costs

Got this to stiffen up the rear end of my Stang for roll control to compliment the full BMR rear end control package I've already installed (BMR adj PH bar, BMR PHB brace, BMR non-adj LCA's and BMR adj UCA w\ mounting bracket and BMR poly axle bushing) along w\ the FR 3.73 gear upgrade. Installation was straight forward but the brace was a little too short (holes in brace were approx. 3\8" to 1\2" too narrow to fit around the lower shock rubber extensions (ones that protrude thru the shock tower) so I got out my floor jack and jacked up 1 side at the front LCA body mount to get unibody to flex inward as much as it would then took my pry bar and pried the SR rear shock tower brace over after installing 1 side to get the bar to start sliding down the rubber extension then installed the other top rubber shock mount w\ metal compression washer and tightened it down while continuing to flex brace to coax brace to fit fully over the extension and bottom out. Took me approx. 40 mins to get this done (pretty hot inside trunk of my black Stang so I took several breaks to cool off and rehydrate). Got both side panel covers trimmed up to fit around the brace then put all back in to finish the install. Took car out for a drive to settle the brace in and test it out. Went down some winding roads to test roll characteristics and some very uneven roads to try to flex my car's unibody to ensure that brace settles in. I could tell that this brace was making a difference as the car's unibody was not exihibiting any lateral flexing (have a SR Front Strut Tower brace already installed along w\ a FR Front LCA brace so both F\R braces are now working together) and car's body roll was very minimal when put into corners w\ decent lateral G's (still using stock springs w\ stock struts\shocks and FR red poly bushing kit installed on front\rear sway bars to enhance their operation running Goodyear Eagle Sport A\S tires)….handling was very good but wasn't gonna push it too hard w\ A\S tires. Am very satisfied w\ this product. Note: If you're installing 1 of these save yourself some grief and reinstall your main trunk liner and trunk carpet mat BEFORE you install this brace on the rear shock towers!

Rear Shock Tower and the Kitchen Sink

As implied, the shock tower brace was one of several changes made to stiffen the rear end and control wheel hop after installing a Roush R2300 Stage 1 supercharger. The kitchen sink included a Steeda x-brace, BMR control arms with relocatable brackets and an adjustable panhard bar. Control arms were placed in the center holes. Mission accomplished! Rear end remains stable and wheel hop is eliminated...:-)
