    Review & Install Video

Hey, guys Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com here with my review of the SR Performance Rear Shock Tower Brace in chrome for all 2005 to 2014 Mustangs. The SR Performance Rear Shock Tower Brace is a little piece of the suspension puzzle that can help to just tie everything together and take some flex out of the body and provide some good looks for the trunk. The shock tower brace is really just to reinforce the chassis. Taking any flex out of the body, even if it's only a little bit, can only be a good thing. Reducing some flex and giving some reinforcement here can help to improve traction, which means better and faster handling capabilities not just from a launch but also in the corners. Having crisp handling always makes for a more fun driving experience. Improved traction only means a quicker feeling car. You're definitely going to notice the shock tower brace any time you pop your trunk. The fact that this is a nice bright chrome brace is a nice feature. If you aren't really into the chrome look, SR Performance does offer the same brace in black as well. The black version's going to cost a little less, too. If you have a show car, the fact that these braces have a nice look in the trunk is just a plus. One thing to keep in mind here is that you won't notice a drastic change in handling from this brace alone. It does offer a little benefit, but it's not a night and day situation unless you do something like tie the brace into a cage. Then, you can expect a huge difference in rigidity. But like a lot of other suspension parts, a shock tower brace is only one component of the suspension. The improvements of the brace can be even more considerable when you start pairing it with other suspension mods. Once you start making other suspension upgrades, the shock tower brace will work to keep everything tied together and feeling tight and more stable. This means overall more consistent suspension no matter what you're doing with your car. As far as price, there's the difference between the chrome and black brace from SR Performance, but neither are going to break the bank. The chrome option costs just over $170 and the black version is about $25 less, so $150. If we move on to the install, this is an easy install that anyone is able to tackle by themselves in the driveway or the garage and should take less than an hour to complete. I'm going to call it a one out of three wrenches on the scale, but I will say that I've heard of some fitment issues with this brace. It will not fit the Stangs with the Shaker sound systems and there may be some modifications to make in order for the install to be completed. This is on top of the trunk liner that will need to be trimmed if you follow the instructions. As far as tools, you won't need anything crazy here, just a few wrenches and a blade for the cutting. The spare tire cover will need to be removed. Move the fabric covers out of the way so the nut and stud are showing on each side. Just loosen these on both sides and replace the spare tire cover and install the brace. It simply just slides over the studs. The flange nuts with rubber grommets go back onto the studs. This is where you might need to do some modification to get the brace to sit properly. You may need to bend some of the fingers on the brace to get it to fit right, but that's about it. The fabric covers can go back into place and you can cut some of the fabric away to allow for a better fit. It's really up to you. That's all it's going to take to get this installed. Wrapping things up here, the SR Performance Rear Shock Tower Brace works to take a little bit of the flexibility out of the body of the car and reinforce the chassis, which makes for better traction and improved handling. It works really well when tied into other suspension supports and it's very easy to install. You have a choice of chrome or black and you can check it out more online right here at americanmuscle.com.

Improves Handling Performance. Improve your S197 Mustang's handling performance by reinforcing your rear shock towers with a SR Performance rear shock tower brace. A SR rear shock tower brace will stiffen your Mustang's chassis to reduce suspension flex and improve traction for impressive corner carving handling.

Superior Construction. The SR Performance Mustang Rear Shock Tower Brace is made from heavy duty tubular steel to keep your rear end from flexing under g-load and is completed in a durable triple plated chrome finish for classic good looks and long lasting corrosion resistance.

Application. The SR Performance Rear Shock Tower Brace is designed to fit all 2005 to 2014 Mustangs, including the V6, GT, Bullitt, BOSS, and Shelby GT500 models. Does

not fit Mustangs with the Shaker 1000 sound system. Technical Notes. Some modifications and welding may be required for installation. All models will require trimming of factory inner trunk liner.

My stang is a daily driver. Will installing a rear/front shock brace have a negative affect in the long run if I dont use my car in a competitive manner?

        • Front and rear shock tower braces will help handling, however due to the way they tie the strut towers and shock towers together, you may notice a slightly stiffer ride.

            Shock Tower

Installed in less than an hour, only takes up a little space in the trunk and is a added plus to the strut tower brace I installed a few weeks ago. Trimming the trunk liner was easy even with house hold scissors. I was considering installing the weld in subframe connectors but will probably postpone until a later date because of how well the shock tower and strut tower are performing

            Well made part.

The rear shock tower brace was well made- However the drilled holes for the shocks to go through were drilled off by 3/4 of an inch making the installation extremely difficult. Steve - North Babylon,NY

Product installed easily, w/ the assistance of a good floor jack - This work was done @ 61K miles, I also chose to repl. rear shocks so the ride and handling are much improved. Could use some install tips for the younger DYI owner.

Tedious to install, but worth it.

Putting this thing was tough due to just how tedious it was removing the shock tower bolt only using an adjustable wrench, but once it was on there the difference could instantly be felt. My only complaint was I had to use a vice to bend the ends to shape which was kind of cheap I thought.

            SR Rear Shock Tower Brace

This was a pretty straight forward install. I already had the front strut tower brace which helped noticably. This rear brace does eliminate some body roll but would be very hard to detect unless you really take a corner aggressively. Only think that this mod would be for the assertive driver.

            Nice addition

Great fit. Great feel, Good price. I wish the front strut came in the chrome finish as well. When installing, make sure that the trunk carpet is installed. Because of the pressboard backing being angled, you will not be able to slide it under the brace after install. Install was about 15 minutes. I also had to trim the carpet as mentioned in the install directions.

            I think it’s worth getting.

Not everyone will agree, but I can feel a difference in the car. Feels better in the curves not a so much in the straight line driving. Got here Friday and took about ten minutes to install. The wife and I took the Stang for a run and We like the feel. I already had Kong yellows and frappe 5300 “P” springs and steeds top hats on the Stang for about 2 years and this made a noticeable difference. I recommend this shock tower brace for those who enjoy playing in the curves.

Tighten up that badonk-a-donk rear end

It's a little tough to install since you are lying in your trunk but it's well worth the effort. With the front strut and the rear strut everything feels so tight. You will notice a stouter ride over bumps and have a more aggressive capable feel when driving.
