    Ask a Question

How is the strength of this alternator compared to stock? As asked before, what's the stock alternators output? How much of a difference is it from stock settings? More importantly, will this clear out the dreaded p0340 code asking for a cam sensor when its really a bad alternator on the 05-06 models?

    redgt

    • I don't know from personal experience about the p0340 code, but everyone on the forum swears that it's an alternator issue. I personally had 3 motocraft batteries eaten by the stock alternator that was replaced 3 times in 2 years. Finally got sick of the hassle and got one of these. I don't even miss the money.

PA Performance Wire Upgrade Required? I recently purchased the 130 amp PA Performance alternator for my 06 gt. I was just curious as to the amp output for the stock alternator, and if the PA Performance power wire upgrade is required for the PA 130 amp replacement.

      Fresh Power!!!

The alternator was just what I needed. Easy install with a breaker bar and a couple of hand tools. It’s been a couple months now with zero issues and loads of fresh power. Car runs better then ever too. Thanks, AM!

      Good while it lasted

Worked great and fixed my issue I was having with a lower amp alternator on my 05 Mustang GT. Unfortunately this thing only lasted 3 years with 1743 miles on it (I only drive her on the Saturdays down to the coffee shop). Pretty disappointed

      Good Upgrade!

Good upgrade if you are putting underdrive pulleys on. My alternator went out with only 44000 miles on it. Upgraded to more amps and seems to really help. To me just seems like the car runs better.

      Great Alternator

Works perfect with my Saleen SC 2005 GT, no pulley change needed because a non-clutch is needed in my case and the alternator is mounted pulley facing toward engine. PA Performance confirmed pulley can run backwards no problem. Old alternator must have been not performing well before it went out because I can feel the cars performance is back - believe it or not there is a big difference in cars performance. Working great so far. Easy 1hr install for me.

      Not What I Expected

First, I would like to say that I purchased 2 each PA Performance 130A alternators within in a 7 year period - and both failed. The first one lasted 5 years. After I sent it back to PA Performance for evaluation, they diagnosed it with an internal short. The second one only lasted 2 years due to the rear internal cooling fan blades came loose and rattled badly while the car was running. This caused my 'Check Charging System' light to come on. I also discovered a major flaw with these alternators being that they come with a solid pulley instead of a clutch pulley like the OEM comes with. FoMoCo engineers knew what they were doing when they designed the OEM alternator with the clutch pulley. I guess the only consolation is the Limited Lifetime Warranty with free shipping; for that, I am rating this alternator 2 stars. Otherwise, I would have rated it 1 star.

      Needed addition

Solved my engine light problem and should be better than stock. Mechanic said it put out 15 volts just briefly. Hope it doesn't continue at that level.

Wow and then there was power!

I guess I've been really lucky with my girls Mustang. 200k on the ticker and it was stock and still running. Never replaced the alternator, stater nothing. So I got the cam sensor warning. Ok no biggie I ordered 2 new one from Ford. Light still on. Do some interest reading. Ah alternator needs replaced. Again no problem, but after reading all the problems with aftermarket units and rebuilds, I decided to go with this brand new unit. Not cheap but worth it. My alt gauge has never been this car. Car seems to fire up way faster. Some complain of the whine coming from this unit??? I don't hear it. Kinda wished it did. Give the illusion we have a supercharger.

      Great Product !

I got the infamous P0340 error code on my 2006 GT and decided to replace the alternator based on what I was reading about this particular problem with this model and year. Installation was a breeze. I removed and cleaned the throttle body, cleaned the mass air flow sensor and replaced the serpentine belt while I was at it. Started her up and drove off into the night. No more check engine light and running smooth. Way better performance too !

      2 Weeks and no problems

I bought this in mid May 2016, install took about 2 hours and I followed the guide provided on the website. There were some minor annoyances, but overall anyone with a set of wrenches can do this. It has been about 2 weeks since the install and I have had absolutely no problems and the product seems to work great.

Fixed p0340 code and works great!

My 2006 GT with 60k miles recently got the check engine light. Looked up the code and saw the p0340 code and thought I'd be doing something different. LUCKILY, i checked the Mustang forums AND of course American Muscle and noticed many had stated the faulty diode in the OEM alternator is a likely cause of the code. I would never have deducted that without others posting. ALSO, my Stang had been bucking/snorting a bit on chilly mornings and I thought I'd be addressing that come spring. The Alternator arrived on time and in fine condition with zero issues. Install on the S197's is very easy. Take off serpentine belt and remove alternator. I did have to remove the throttle body which is easy too. I don't know if everyone would have too. There is one bracket on mine that needed another 32nd of an inch of clearance for the alternator to come straight out so I wonder if mine is just odd. Bottom line, 3 weeks later NO CODE and car DOES NOT buck/snort on chilly mornings. Who'd of thunk it! On time fast delivery! NEW not reman! Lifetime warranty! American Muscle prices and products! Not as reliable as new OEM

I've had some issues with this alternator, purchased it just under a year ago. Bought it without the optional cable and it threw codes, fixed by running the new cable. Voltage regulator failed at 10 months (less than 3k miles) - I found out because it wore out my battery which I had bought at the same time. Measured the output and it was putting out 15-17 volts, lucky it didn't do more damage.

      Better mpg?

So got my alternator put on today,(pa performance 130 amp.) So as im driving along I notice my mpg are going up. With the reman alternator my car was at 17.4 now with the p.a. Its right now at 19.5! I dont know if that sounds right but thats happening. My car has a sct 93 tune with high flow filter and muffler delete. The driving is a mix of highway and city. The car is a show car. Only has 21xxx for an 2008.
