Review & Installation Video

Hey, guys, Justin with AmericanMuscle.com here, and in this video, I'm going to be taking a closer look at the Airaid cold air intake system, equipped with the SynthaFlow oiled filter, available for your 2015 Coyote powered GT. Airaid has earned a reputation in the Mustang world thanks to their quality intake systems that perform great, look awesome, and are built with quality in mind. Now guys, we're going to show you just how well this thing will perform, but first, let's break down some of the specifics with the S550 Airraid. As is the case with any other Airaid product, you can tell a lot of time and effort went into designing the new intake here for the 2015 Mustang. We're looking at a roto-molded plastic intake tube and one-piece air box, featuring a new design for 2015. As you can see, they've included a little Plexiglas window here etched with the Airaid logo, a little brushed stainless steel going on, very cool. It's going to look great under the hood and, more importantly, it's going to allow you to keep an eye on the filter condition over time. In addition to the intake tube itself, the one-piece air box, and of course, that reusable high-flow SynthaFlow filter, you do get all the couplers and hardware, and detailed instructions needed to get this intake installed easily. Now, the 2015 GT Airaid intake is a no-tune-required intake, meaning, for those of you at home watching this who are not ready to pull the trigger on a tune just yet, you can buy this intake, bolt it up, and go. It's going to perform better than your factory air box and look good while doing so. However, since this video is specifically about the benefits of running a cold air and performance tune, let's talk about how that after-market custom tune will help you there. Now, technically speaking, you can expect optimized spark and cam timing, adjustments to your rev and speed limiters and drive-by-wire calibrations, and ultimately, the most power out of your setup by optimizing those air fuel ratios. Getting this combo installed should only take you about an hour from start to finish, using basic hand tools. Now, you figure you have to remove your factory air box, get the new Airaid installed here. If you guys do have any questions about this process or about the Airaid itself, well then feel free to reach out to an AmericanMuscle Mustang expert anytime by phone or e-mail. We already grabbed our baseline run using our six-speed GT behind me, so now with the Airaid installed, it's time to turn the rollers one more time on our Dynojet and see what kind of gains we can expect with this combo. Our baseline run, using our six-speed 2015 GT gave us 384 horsepower and 362 pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels. With the Airaid, the car is now making 407 horsepower and 379 pound-feet of torque, giving us a peak gain of 23 horsepower over those baseline numbers, and gains of as much as 26 horsepower and 30 pound-feet of torque throughout the curve. As we demonstrate time and time again here at AM, for the time and effort spent, there's really nothing that compares to upgrading to a quality intake system like the Airaid here. So be sure to check out an Airaid cold air intake for your ride, right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Increase horsepower and torque. Airaid Cold Air Intake Systems are computer designed to give your 5.0L Coyote engine maximum air flow, which translates to more horsepower, torque and improved fuel efficiency. Airaid intakes are dyno tested and tuned for maximum performance and efficiency.

No Tune Required. This Airaid Cold Air Intake is designed to improve the performance of your 5.0L V8 powered Pony without any computer reprogramming required. By utilizing state of the art computer-aided designs, Airaid Intake Systems offer unmatched fit, finish, and power!

Superior Filtration. Each cold air intake provides superior air filtration, since it includes an Airaid Premium Filter with SynthaFlow® technology. SynthaFlow® is a synthetic nano-fiber material that traps the smallest dirt particles that ordinary cotton-gauze "performance" filters just can't capture. Airaid Premium Filters, with SynthaFlow® can capture particulates down to 2 microns in size. And best of all Premium Filters are washable and re-usable saving you money.

Unique Air Box Design. This Airaid Cold Air Intake features a specially designed one-piece roto-molded intake box that draws cooler outside air from the factory cold air duct while the unique shape improves airflow around the entire filter. Another cool feature is the clear plexiglass lid that not only adds eye catching under hood styling, but makes it easy to check filter condition with just a glance.

Application. This Airaid Cold Air Intake System with SynthaFlow filter is specifically designed to fit the 2015-2017 Mustangs equipped with the Coyote 5.0L DOHC V8 engine. The included SynthaMax filter is Red.

Is this product as good without the tune? I am skeptical if this is the way I should go?

rlaekeman

  • Hello! The Airaid Cold Air Intake - SynthaFlow Oiled Filter will not produce as much power without a tune but nonetheless will work fine without a tune still.

I currently live in CA and am aware that this is not legal for use on the street. I am planning on taking my car to the track and installing it there and using it for off-road purposes only. Will I still be able to purchase it?

DESTROMINATOR

  • Yes, you can purchase this Airaid Cold Air Intake if you live in California. However, we do have to make sure you are aware this is not legal for street use and should be used for off-road use only.

Is there any notable power increase or throttle response when only adding cold air intake or really only when combined with a tune

PaulC

  • There will be a small noticeable difference when doing just the cold air intake yes! Now when adding a tune is when you will feel the full affect of the intake!

Would this intake fit on a 15 GT with a gt350 manifold and BBK 85mm throttle body?

DominickM

  • The GT350 intake manifold will require the use of the Ford Performance 87mm GT350 throttle body. This cold air intake however can fit with the 87mm throttle body and the GT350 intake manifold.

which cleaning kit should i be using for "Airaid Cold Air Intake - SynthaFlow Oiled Filter - Red".

Mustang2015

  • You can use any recharge kit to clean this filter. Make sure you rinse the filter off lightly and get all the soap off. You should let it completely dry before you install the filter back on the car.

    Delete that sound tube

Very well made product. Hardest part of installation was turning that 10mm nut on the firewall one click at a time with my ratchet wrench to remove that totally useless sound tube. Once removed, used a little black rtv on plug to seal off hole where sound tube inserts into firewall. Actually the inside cabin is a little quieter now. Also have deteted the resonator and installed h-pipe to give it a nice growl when taking off.

    Airaid

Good product. The only issue I have is the large inlet tube, using the one inch throttle body spacer from Airaid makes it a little difficult to assemble. It would be great if Airaid designed the large inlet tube to accommodate for throttle body spacing.

    Responsive!!!

I was like anyone who was a little skeptical about getting an CAI but I went ahead a pulled the trigger anyways. Once I installed it and took it out on the road nothing but smiles on my face. Very satisfied and the car does feel a little bit more responsive than before. Looks great under the hood and sounds amazing in the cabin. Love it!!

This is my first mod i have done to the car and im not disappointed. Installation was easy and took less then an hour. Definitely a quality product by airaid and it might all be in my head but i swear the car accelerates a little bit quicker. Cant wait to get me a tune and some exhaust parts to really open it up

    Great intake

I've got an Air Raid intake on my other cars and the fit and finished on this one is just as great. Easy install, quality construction. If you're familiar with the 2015-16 5.0 install will take about an hour, slot 2 hours of this is your first one.

Must have addition for any muscle car.

Delivery was fast as always with AM. I don't know if adding a CAI improves performance or not, and personally I don't care. It has to be a positive thing for the engine to breath easier, and it dresses up the engine compartment nicely. It looks great. The Airaid CAI is nicely finished and fits together quite well. Fitment in the car is perfect. That's not always the case with CAI systems. The price is high, but then everything we buy to modify our cars costs more than it should. We buy them anyway because we're car people. I would recommend this product for all muscle cars.

    Great For What It Is

I bought this CAI because it didnt require a tune. With that, its pretty well accepted that without a tune, CAI's dont really have that much of an effect. However, i definitely feel a more crisp throttle response and also a slight rise in MPG. Definitely of high quality, and definitely worth the money. I also recommend purchasing the throttle body spacer with it, just for the sound of it if nothing else

    Love this CAI

This CAI was pretty simple to install... Easy instructions and basic tools. The fit was perfect! The aggressive aftermarket look is outstanding. To be honest, I can't really tell the difference as far as power or sound. I kept the sound tube, however, I'm thinking of deleting it just to see if it makes a difference in sound. I have the magna flow competition cat back and that alone is probably why I don't hear a difference or feel a big difference. Let's be honest, when adding approx 10 hp over 435 (plus whatever my exhaust increase is) won't make much a difference or a difference that you can feel without a tune. I havnt really had a chance to evaluate the true gas consumption but I'd say I'd lost approx 1-2 mpg. Overall, product is still great. The fact that I know my engine is able to maximize its cold air intake with a "sealed box" not allowing warm air to enter, coupled with the oiled filter to allow maximum air flow... I'd definitely purchase again and recommend this product to anyone considering it.

    Great Intake

I was already running a KandN filter and Airaid Intake Tube on my mustang so I didn't expect much of a difference but I loved the look, fit and finish and decided to put one on. Installation couldn't have been any easier and there is definitely a noticeable difference in throttle response, especially off the bottom. This Cold Air Intake looks great and really performs well.

    Good Modification

I installed this CAI with the AirRaid one inch spacer. It was very difficult to align the unit with the throttle body. I would say the system without the the spacer will install very easily. But since I wanted use the spacer, I tightened the box to the frame last. AirRaid should design the system to use their throttle one inch spacer. The unit is very well built and should lower the fuel consumption.

    Good product

This CAI is nice looking under the hood. The reason I bought this one is the 2017 S 550 has a vent in the hood. I don’t anticipate driving in the rain but the open cold air intakes could potentially suck water to the filter in a pouring rain . Maybe a moot point ...Fit was good , but tight to install. Seems to breathe better with this . I installed a 3 inch cat back exhaust prior to the cold air. Drove it a few days and then installed the cold air intake. Throttle response seems a little better, but car definitely breathes better!

    Huge difference

Install took about 30 mins. Hardest part was taking off sound tube. My hands were just too big and took nearly 30 mins just to take that off. I have throttle bottle spacer so the fitment was very snug and kinda hard. The clear plexi didn't seat properly, so u have to force bend the air box to place screws in. Runs so much better without it. I ran 4 tanks and upped my mpg to 19/20 without plexi. With plexi installed the sound was little mellow and the mpg dropped to 16. Stock tune still but totally worth every penny. Woke up my stang and dyno proved 479hp now. Boosted 21hp just on stock tune

    Missing Parts

Ordered the Airaid CAI and throttle body spacer. Neither product arrived as described. Studied the CAI install instructions here and on the manufacturer's website. Watched the videos here and on the manufacturer's website. Followed instructions in sequence and realized one of the fittings was missing when install was about 80 complete. Then had to remove the new one and reinstall the factory intake. Thanks to AM for having the missing fitting shipped. Shame on Airaid for wasting my time.
