    Review & Installation Video

    Review & Install Video

Hey, guys, Justin with AmericanMuscle.com here, and in this video, I'm going to be taking a closer look at the Airaid cold air intake system, equipped with the SynthaFlow oiled filter, available for your 2015 Coyote powered GT. Airaid has earned a reputation in the Mustang world thanks to their quality intake systems that perform great, look awesome, and are built with quality in mind. Now guys, we're going to show you just how well this thing will perform, but first, let's break down some of the specifics with the S550 Airraid. As is the case with any other Airaid product, you can tell a lot of time and effort went into designing the new intake here for the 2015 Mustang. We're looking at a roto-molded plastic intake tube and one-piece air box, featuring a new design for 2015. As you can see, they've included a little Plexiglas window here etched with the Airaid logo, a little brushed stainless steel going on, very cool. It's going to look great under the hood and, more importantly, it's going to allow you to keep an eye on the filter condition over time. In addition to the intake tube itself, the one-piece air box, and of course, that reusable high-flow SynthaFlow filter, you do get all the couplers and hardware, and detailed instructions needed to get this intake installed easily. Now, the 2015 GT Airaid intake is a no-tune-required intake, meaning, for those of you at home watching this who are not ready to pull the trigger on a tune just yet, you can buy this intake, bolt it up, and go. It's going to perform better than your factory air box and look good while doing so. However, since this video is specifically about the benefits of running a cold air and performance tune, let's talk about how that after-market custom tune will help you there. Now, technically speaking, you can expect optimized spark and cam timing, adjustments to your rev and speed limiters and drive-by-wire calibrations, and ultimately, the most power out of your setup by optimizing those air fuel ratios. Getting this combo installed should only take you about an hour from start to finish, using basic hand tools. Now, you figure you have to remove your factory air box, get the new Airaid installed here. If you guys do have any questions about this process or about the Airaid itself, well then feel free to reach out to an AmericanMuscle Mustang expert anytime by phone or e-mail. We already grabbed our baseline run using our six-speed GT behind me, so now with the Airaid installed, it's time to turn the rollers one more time on our Dynojet and see what kind of gains we can expect with this combo. Our baseline run, using our six-speed 2015 GT gave us 384 horsepower and 362 pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels. With the Airaid, the car is now making 407 horsepower and 379 pound-feet of torque, giving us a peak gain of 23 horsepower over those baseline numbers, and gains of as much as 26 horsepower and 30 pound-feet of torque throughout the curve. As we demonstrate time and time again here at AM, for the time and effort spent, there's really nothing that compares to upgrading to a quality intake system like the Airaid here. So be sure to check out an Airaid cold air intake for your ride, right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

        • Yes, you can purchase this Airaid Cold Air Intake if you live in California. However, we do have to make sure you are aware this is not legal for street use and should be used for off-road use only.

On the Air Raid MPX, what are pros and cons between the oiled and uncoiled filters? Thanks for your help.

        • Oiled covered filters are great at keeping small particles out of the engine and a non oiled filter has less maintenance such as re-oiling the filter.

Looks good on the car and was easy to install. The wife (her Mustang) loves it. Was simple enough even someone with little maintenance knowledge could do it with minimal tools.

            Airaid has lost their way

I chose this intake because of the closed box design. I wanted something that wouldn't give me high IAT's in bumper to bumper traffic or whatever. In this the intake kind of delivers, but it is not without it's shortcomings. The plexiglass lid and metal cover has already started to become discolored after going through the carwash twice. At first I thought it was just soap or water spots, but I could not remove them with detailer or similiar products. Also the plexiglass cover and metal insert didn't fit correctly over the intake. I had to use a dremel to clearance the intake molding to make it fit. This is unacceptable for a company like Airaid who has been in the business for some time. If I had to do it over again I would go with Steeda or JLT.

Every peice of the intake was manufactured to fit and it was true to its word , I have read other people's reviews and some say the holes didn't line up or something like that, but mine I had no problem

            Great Intake, Easy Install

I bought this cold air intake just as a replacement for the stock one, and it was very easy to install. Install time was around two hours but would probably be faster for someone more comfortable under the hood. I did not purchase a tuner with it so didn't expect any performance gain, but I can feel a slight difference in the "get up and go." The look of this intake under the hood is a huge plus as well!

Before I took 2 local Ford dealer I made sure all parts n alignment was good. They installed along with roush axle backs very pleased, noticed better throttle response n seems like a couple more horse power.

            Airaid cai

Good quality product, installation was simple and only took me about an hour most of the time spent on removing the 10mm bolt on the firewall for the sound tube but I definitely recommend deleting the ugly looking sound tube cleans up the engine bay a bit. No tube yet for me but I can feel a little bit of difference better throttle response and I feel like the power comes on a bit quicker overall satisfied

            2015 gt airaid cai

Everything was in the box and it installed as represented. The only issue is the mass air sensor cable line on the car is a bit short for the new location on the cai. Not sure if there is more power, but throttle response seems better and engine growl is throatier.

            You have one job

First off AM is in the process of resolving my issues. The performance gains are good which is why it’s not a 1 star. The issues which I see now are not uncommon were that the washers for 1/4 in were clearly not 1/4in because I went to Lowe’s and got actual 1/4in washers and they were almost 2x as big so idk who is putting the washers in the bags but check it. Second issue was a blind man must have drilled and cut the air box cover because none of the screws lined up. Third is it looked like they took the cover and used it as a skateboard before throwing it in the box.

            Air Intake

Well, Easy to install. Like the look and the little bit of pick up it gives. Only issues I had was 1. Missing a grommet (bought at NAPA) 2. I had to drill out washers supplied to allow screws to go through. I am pleased overall.

Overall I’m very pleased with the product. It has a noticeable performance boost and looks nice as well. I opted for leaving the stickers off though. Only downside was that it was missing a rubber gromet. Went down to autozone and picked one up for $3. Other than that, good product

            Incorrect Hardware and Misrepresented Part

As we were installing this cai we found that washers included did not fit the button screws supplied. Having already torn the car apart, we ended up taking the time to file each and every one to fit. As the installation was wrapping up, we took the protective coating off the plexiglass cover only to find that it lacked the etched logo as seen in pictures and on videos... including on Airaid's own site. American Muscle tried to help but directed me to Airaid for answers. Airaid said they no longer come with the etched glass even though it is still depicted on their landing page and on videos as having it. I asked that they look to see if they had any. The manager said he didn't need to as he "knew" they didn't have any. The plain plexiglass looks incomplete and not as "dressed" as the etched. Severely disappointed. A deciding factor in this purchase was based off their misrepresented photos and videos.

Just not what I expected from Airaid

Missing quite a bit of hardware, in particular five of the nine 1/4-20 screws. The washers were all the wrong size, and two band clamps were missing as well. Airaid did send me a complete new hardware bag after I contacted them so customer service on their part was good. But even the new hardware bag, altough complete, still had the wrong size washers. Install was simple like any intake and once installed after gathering all the hardware (twice) from Airaid and a trip to get some washers, it looks good. I tuned the car and there is a noticeable curve gain but all in all I would go with Roush or CandL. This particular install for me was a pain from all the time on the phone and running around to get parts that should have been included and correct for $375 kit. Very disappointed.

Pain to install but performs well

If you have a 17 GT, have fun installing the rubber grommet for the extra vacuum hose that doesn't exist on the 17. That thing was a PAIN to install. One of the MAF sensor screw holes also seemed to have bad threads. Needed to use rubber washers to compensate.. Performance with my lund tune has been excellent.
