Any opinions on the Dry vs Oiled Airaids? It says it can be washed, but I don't know how I feel about that. I honestly don't mind cleaning an oiled one, and have read that they are better, since they trap more junk. Only difference is, this one comes with the black filter!!!

    • Hello! The Airaid Cold Air Intake - SynthaMax Dry Filter is reporting the power increase of 20HP and 28TQ with an optional tune. Without the tune, you will receive less of a benefit.

Once the CAI is successfully installed, how do you go about correctly tuning it? If I purchase the bama tuner AM is recommending in the checkout how do I get that tuner to correctly sync with this CAI?

    3point7Heaven

    • The Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake w/ SynthaMax Dry Filter does not require a tune. If you'd like a custom tune for the intake to get more HP you will need either have the car custom dyno'd by a local shop and have them set you up with a custom tune and tuner set up or you can get a tuner that comes with custom tunes from our site, like our Bama tuner option. If you go the Bama route, after you place the order you will need to submit the custom tune sheet with the modifications done to the car and they will get you set up with a custom tune!

Without a tune do I still gain a lil hp and TQ

    TrevonB

    • With the Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake w/ SynthaMax Dry Filter the 20 HP and 28 TQ is only with the optional tune. Without it, you'll see roughly between 5-10 HP and 10-15 TQ.

Can you take them to a shop to get tuned or do you have to buy the tuner

    CameronH

    • This Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake does not require a tune, but, if you choose, you can go with one of our tuners or go to a performance shop to have a custom dyno tune made.

Will this fit with 73mm throttle body?

    TBryant

    • This Airaid Cold Air Intake will fit over 73mm throttle bodies, such as the BBK 73mm Throttle body, item 56146. Since the throttle body is larger, you may need to wiggle on the coupler of the intake or possibly warm it up to expand the coupler. http://www.americanmuscle.com/bbk-85mm-throttlebody-112v6.html

      Sounds fantastic!

If you're buying this for performance gains alone without a tune, don't bother because you won't see much there. However, if you're looking for incredible sound, this is the product for you. My car is stock expect for this intake and it already turns heads! Above 2k RPMs and my 3.7 roars! All the parts are solid and well made. The box came to me practically destroyed, but there wasn't a scratch on a single piece of the intake. Installation wise, if you're doing this alone it's pretty tough to get everything aligned properly. It can be done, just take your time although I would recommend an extra pair of hands to help out. Overall, a great intake that makes these cars sound evil.

      Making Your 3.7 Sound Meaner

Take American Muscle's description and reviews with a grain of salt. The installation is an extremely tight fit that takes more than an hour for most simply because of throttle body, and the MPG doesnt seem to change much if at all. Dont take the first turn of the engine as the official new sound of the pony either, give it at least 200 miles to settle into the new filter. This CAI is indeed a great starter mod for a pony driver, and is a bang for your buck. Just be wary of the install, cause its not necessarily a walk in the park. ANOTHER THING: I searched high and low through the internet for a decent video sound review of this CAI and couldnt find one, so i posted one myself on youtube. Just search "2012 Ford Mustang V6 Airaid Synthamax Cold Air Intake", I hope this helps!

Change the order of operation lol!

Great product and does give the V6 a deeper rumble on acceleration. I have no real experience with working on my own cars but was able to install this CAI in about 2 hours. PUT THE HUMP HOSE ON THE THROTTLE BODY FIRST!

      Good product

So I got this part for the performance gains and honestly there is nothing noticeable. If you want to notice gains your going to have to get the tuner as well. For the sound it sounds good when your 3k rpm. Installation was pretty easy with the instructions took about 45 minutes. Overall great sound and product. If you really want noticeable power you need the tuner.

      Great Results!

It works great, looks great and sounds awesome! But installing it onto the throttle body is a bear! After messing with it a long time, we figured out a trick. The instructions have you place the rubber sleeve onto the tube, theen try to work it onto the throttle body. It is MUCH easier to put the rubber sleeve on the throttle body first, THEN work the air tube onto it from there. It gives you so much room to work. Oh, and a squirt of WD40 helps!

      Amazing throttle power and sound

I installed my long tube headers, xpipe, and muffler delete resonators previous to this CAI. The absolute power from the touch of the throttle I got was mind boggling. It created a deeper, more rich tone for the exhaust as well.

      Awesome first aftermarket part.

As soon as you get done with the install you can hear the difference! The installation took me approximately 45 minutes min to do. I love the way it sounds when you punch the gas. You definitely noticed the power increase of the V-6. Overall, great first part!

      Great Beginning Mod

For just over $300 this is a great mod. The car sounds a lot "beefier" in the 2K-5K RPM range. It's a bit difficult to explain, but the car sounds great when you step on the gas (especially on the highway already going 80). I personally noticed a slight increase in throttle response and slight HP gain. The only difficult part of the install was getting the rubber over the throttle body (I recommend having a buddy help with that part). The install took 30 mins except for the throttle body part. I've noticed a slight MPG gain (1-3) and the engine is about 10-20 cooler. The fitment is great and it took about 200 miles to break in. Additional Info: I do NOT have a tune yet I'm running 2.73 gears (next on the upgrade list) It's the first mod done to the car I would 100 recommend it purely based on sound. If you want performance gains, you need a tune.

      Not too bad

This is my second one is had to buy this one because the inlet tube crushed and caused vacuum leak and airaid does not sell parts all in all fitment is great and look , noticeable gains nothing crazy but with the 73 mm throttle body it's a great bolt on

Very good fit appox. 50 minutes to install looks great but the sound is the best. I can tell it is more aggressive when you punch it . Definitely a thumbs up.

      Gives my V6 a roar!

This was the first performance mod I gave to my car. It really gives a nice sound under the hood and was pretty easy to install. Definitely make sure and read the instructions first so you aren't having to take things out again. Even with the trial and error it took less than an hour to install and really cleans up the look under the hood. I haven't noticed any performance gains yet but I expect it will help with gas mileage and a little HP gain until I get a tune. Overall great product.

      Great for starters!

This is a great way to start modding your V6 Mustang. I installed mine in under an hour. The only difficult part was getting the hose on the throttle body but after that it's a great tight fit. The sound is also a big step up as well! Some people even told me it doesn't even sound like a v6! Fuel efficiency stays about the same I would think. Don't hesitate on this product! It's a great starter for those first buying their first aftermarket part! It's well worth it!

      Fantastic CAI!!

Did my homework and finally landed on this no-tune required SynthaMax CAI. Glad I did, as everything came through as advertised. Improved mpg, acceleration response, and that sound - Awesome! As others have noted, leave the hose clamps as loose as they can go when installing the coupler on the throttle body. Also, install that piece before the connector tube to save yourself 15 minutes of trying otherwise. Mind you, it was pretty cold ~35 degrees out when I was installing mine, so you may have better luck following the instructions provided. Still only took less than an hour. Couldn't be happier with product quality and results!

      Great CAI

The CAI definitely brings some performance increases. The torque is a little more noticeable and when you get on the gas the front end of the mustang really picks up. At idle driving you don't really hear the throatier sound, but open the throttle up and it really roars. The fit was a little snug, a little prep would have turned the afternoon into a 1 hour project. Just a tip; install the rubber gasket on the throttle body first then install the rest of the kit. Without a tune the CAI still brings some performance out and plenty of roar. Over all it's worth the money and can be installed by anyone.
