    Review & Install Video

Hey, guys, Justin with AmericanMuscle.com here with my detailed review of the Ford Racing Boss Style X-pipe with side-exit Exhaust available for your 2015 and up Fastback GT. So obviously, Ford hasn't released a 2015/16 Boss 302 as of yet, but what they have done is released one of the coolest parts from the S197 Boss and now made it available for all you S550 owners out there. And that is the Ford Racing mid-pipe equipped with the very awesome side-exit exhaust. Now, before we get any further, guys, this is definitely more of a sound modification as opposed to an appearance mod. Some of you might hear side-exit exhaust and think maybe 427 Cobra or SN95 Roush, definitely not the case here with this part. These side pipes get tucked way underneath under the rocker there, pretty unassuming when installed. Now, the big difference, though, between the two systems, the S550 and the S197, is they went with an X-pipe here. Ford Racing decided to go X with the S550 as opposed to the H-pipe found on the S197 Boss, and traditionally, that tells us this thing is gonna have a little bit more rasp to it and it does. It's not out of hand. I heard it, of course, in person. It's a lot louder than I thought this thing was gonna be. Honestly, I feel like it's louder than the S197 Boss System, and it offers some good bark. And as a matter of fact, guys, I actually think this thing installed with the factory can still in place, it's almost the perfect sound. I mean, you'll get a lot of bark, a lot of presence, cruising down the street. You get up next to a Jersey barrier on the highway, this thing is screaming in your ear. It is just an awesome system. Now, for that reason alone, it's an easy three out of five. I'm even willing to give that a slight nudge up to a four out of five on our one to five "we're gonna wake the neighbor" scale, which is pretty much uncalled for for a mid-pipe only, but this thing definitely delivers. Now, we also installed the Ford Racing by Borla Sport Axle-back in conjunction with this mid-pipe, and obviously, as you would expect, that knocked it up a few notches, and at that point, all bets are off, everybody knows you're coming. Standard X-pipe here from Ford Racing for your S550 sells on AmericanMuscle.com for around $200 without the side-exit exhaust. Add in these pipes here on the side, and that's gonna add in another $800 onto the final price, but with that said, this is a quality system as you would expect from Ford Racing. 409 grade stainless steel throughout, mandrel bends, good welds, the tips here are 304 grade stainless steel, and of course, this thing does include all the hardware and everything else needed to get it installed. Let's talk about installation, because you're probably wondering how this thing gets bolted up underneath your ride. Well, as for the mid-pipe guys pretty standard stuff there, right? Cut and clamp resonator to leak, so obviously you're gonna have to cut out that factory resonator, not a big deal whatsoever. Get yourself a fresh Sawzall blade, Sawzall, some eye protection, and that's gonna be a standard two out of three wrench job on my overall difficulty meter. As for these side pipes here, guys, whether you know it or not, there's actually a few threaded holes underneath the chassis on your S550, and that's where these little holes here are going to mount to. So again, Ford Racing does include all the hardware gaskets needed for this installation. Again, a solid two out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter. It's not exactly hard, but because you have to cut, I'll knock it up to two. And maybe about an hour or two from start to finish before you're all said and done. All right, guys, in my opinion, the Ford Racing Boss Style Mid-pipe for your S550 is just an awesome product from conception down to delivery. It's gonna give you a tone that's unmatched by any other aftermarket exhaust system out there for your ride, although it does come at a price. So be sure to check out a Ford Racing Boss Style Mid-pipe for your S550 GT right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Sound Like a Boss. Give your S550 GT Fastback that distinctive "Trans-Am" racing sound with a Ford Racing Boss Style Side Exhaust Kit. This Boss Exhaust Kit retains the use of the rear exit factory exhaust while adding Trans-Am style side exhaust pipes for a "true" quad exhaust system.

Reuses Stock Cats. The installation of the Ford Racing Boss Style Quad Exhaust System requires cutting and removing the factory resonator and replacing it with the supplied 409 Stainless Steel X-pipe. Best of all, it reuses the factory catalytic converters, saving you money, and comes complete with polished 304 Stainless Steel Tips.

      nice sound

install took a little more than expected because I had 3 inch tailpipes so had to get it installed at a shop to custom to make the connection to these 2 1/2 inch pipes. other than that it is awesome and loud.

      Great sound poor fitment

A few things, the instruction sheet included is for a generic midpipe part, the side pipes bolt alignment was way off resulting in a much shallower connection into the header sleeve, and cutting 4 inches from the resonator ended up being closer to six. Ended up having to take it to a shop to finish the install, they were nice enough to weld it for me though. The sound is great! The cold starts are a little rough and a bit on the lower side, but aren't a great indicator of what to expect once it's moving. It roars, purs, barks and without drone. I kept the stock mufflers.

      THIS IS THE ONE...

If you've been looking for "THE ONE" this is it. Sounds like a true beast when you punch it and just the right amount of rumble at idle. So glad I spent the extra couple hundred bucks to get exactly what I was hoping for.

Installed on my wife’s 2018 GT with active exhaust, fits perfectly. Does add some rasp at high rpm, will probably install some small resonators. The side pipes add a lot of great sounds into the cabin.

      Beautiful sound

Very easy to install, took under an hour. The sound is incredible, pairs well with muffler deletes if you want it really loud. At 60 MPH you can hear the exhaust, not too loud that you cant talk to the person next to you.

      Louder than you expect--but GLORIOUS

No online video does this justice. This is a LOT louder than a midpipe/resonator delete alone has any business being. Cold starts are absolutely thunderous. Slow idle and parking-lot speeds give you a low, menacing rumble. This exhaust is really something when you get going under load, though. Sounds like a Trans-Am race car. Blips on downshifts are equally thrilling. You will definitely notice this cruising on the freeway. The AM video understates how loud this is at about 2000 RPM in sixth gear--it's definitely louder than stock. It's not too obnoxious, and, if you're considering this, you probably won't mind, anyway. All that said: this sounds fantastic. This is what you imagined the Coyote motor would sound like. Every time I drive my Mustang, it puts a huge grin on my face. Despite the cost, it's worth it because of the unique sound.

      as advertised

First of all, I didn't like the way the item is packed without foam to cover the components. Also there was a little complication with the cutting since I have to cut 5inch on one side and 4inch on the other side, but somehow the tips line up perfectly at the end (weird). Anyway, the xpipe sounds AMAZING! The best part is they're pretty quiet when the engine is idling, but as soon as I put my foot on the gas...it's a different story! Good buy.

      Above and beyond expectations!

There really is no way to describe this product! In all honesty if you’re looking for a loud x pipe, this is the one. I also have kooks headers and flow master outlaws and I highly recommended a tune from Alex at vmp! It’s a night and day difference between a stock mustang and a tuned mustang! With the addition of some simple suspension upgrades I can attest to the claims made by primium aftermarket part makers that the car plants all the power to the ground now and eliminates Wheel hop. In all if you're a true muscle car enthusiast, there’s no substitute for the sound and performance this part provides!

      Perfection at its best

For anyone looking for the best sound...in my opinion, get it. The sound clip just doesnt do this system justice. We will never be able to get the old school sound we all know and love, but this is really close. This will give your stang the attitude adjustment for the guy who wants that good rumble. Hats off to Ford Performance.

Quality piece that adds that extra roar you need

I’ve owned this item for about 6 months now and have run it with and without catalytic converters. When catted it’s subtle but noticeable there’s something else there, but when it wasn’t catted it’s arguably one of the loudest system you can have. Only downside is my mustang is lowered on the eibach sport line springs and it’s enough to scrape on quite a few bumps and driveways.

Great sound, not subtle above idle.

I installed this system with a set of electric cutouts from QTP. With the QTP cutouts closed, it sounds good and is a modest improvement over the muted sound of the stock exhaust. With the QTP cutouts open, it's pretty loud when you're getting on it. Idle is also noticably louder, but not too loud. Initial cold startup with the cutouts open is pretty loud. I love it. This is exactly what I wanted: basically stock to rowdy at the flip of a switch. Mission accomplished.

Amazing. Best exhaust hands down, you can stand outside talking like normal while it isles and when you cruise no one thinks you have exhaust, then when you accelerate it sounds like you have a nascar. You won’t regret it, expensive but worth it, also i get better gas mileage so that’s cool!

Ford Performance X Pipe with Side Exaust

Very happy with quick delivery and product. It is e,freely loud. Much louder than I anticipated for a daily driver. I am going to try inserting the supplied plate that mounts at the flange where side pipes connect to X Pipe to see if restricted exhaust flow to side pipes will quiet it down a little.

I wasn't sure which X pipe to go with, after looking at other reviews and watching YouTube clips I decided on the Ford X pipe with side pipes and they are really nice. Not too loud just right with the stock mufflers. It did need to shim under the drivers side as the pipe would otherwise touch the plastic. Straight forward install.

      The reason for the price

If anyone is wondering why this exhaust costs so much, its because of the ovular piping of the side pipes. The installation went as easy as expected. I installed mine without the restrictor plates. Sound at idle is almost silent and sound on low throttle is tolerable but still loud. Full throttle is raspy and loud as can be. Sounds straightpiped when full throttle. Because of the ovular piping, I feel this is a good buy for those looking for performance. I noticed a 4 whp gain over stock on my Roush Phase 1 fitted car.
