    Hey, guys, Justin with AmericanMuscle.com here with my detailed review of the Ford Racing Boss Style X-pipe with side-exit Exhaust available for your 2015 and up Fastback GT. So obviously, Ford hasn't released a 2015/16 Boss 302 as of yet, but what they have done is released one of the coolest parts from the S197 Boss and now made it available for all you S550 owners out there. And that is the Ford Racing mid-pipe equipped with the very awesome side-exit exhaust. Now, before we get any further, guys, this is definitely more of a sound modification as opposed to an appearance mod. Some of you might hear side-exit exhaust and think maybe 427 Cobra or SN95 Roush, definitely not the case here with this part. These side pipes get tucked way underneath under the rocker there, pretty unassuming when installed. Now, the big difference, though, between the two systems, the S550 and the S197, is they went with an X-pipe here. Ford Racing decided to go X with the S550 as opposed to the H-pipe found on the S197 Boss, and traditionally, that tells us this thing is gonna have a little bit more rasp to it and it does. It's not out of hand. I heard it, of course, in person. It's a lot louder than I thought this thing was gonna be. Honestly, I feel like it's louder than the S197 Boss System, and it offers some good bark. And as a matter of fact, guys, I actually think this thing installed with the factory can still in place, it's almost the perfect sound. I mean, you'll get a lot of bark, a lot of presence, cruising down the street. You get up next to a Jersey barrier on the highway, this thing is screaming in your ear. It is just an awesome system. Now, for that reason alone, it's an easy three out of five. I'm even willing to give that a slight nudge up to a four out of five on our one to five "we're gonna wake the neighbor" scale, which is pretty much uncalled for for a mid-pipe only, but this thing definitely delivers. Now, we also installed the Ford Racing by Borla Sport Axle-back in conjunction with this mid-pipe, and obviously, as you would expect, that knocked it up a few notches, and at that point, all bets are off, everybody knows you're coming. Standard X-pipe here from Ford Racing for your S550 sells on AmericanMuscle.com for around $200 without the side-exit exhaust. Add in these pipes here on the side, and that's gonna add in another $800 onto the final price, but with that said, this is a quality system as you would expect from Ford Racing. 409 grade stainless steel throughout, mandrel bends, good welds, the tips here are 304 grade stainless steel, and of course, this thing does include all the hardware and everything else needed to get it installed. Let's talk about installation, because you're probably wondering how this thing gets bolted up underneath your ride. Well, as for the mid-pipe guys pretty standard stuff there, right? Cut and clamp resonator to leak, so obviously you're gonna have to cut out that factory resonator, not a big deal whatsoever. Get yourself a fresh Sawzall blade, Sawzall, some eye protection, and that's gonna be a standard two out of three wrench job on my overall difficulty meter. As for these side pipes here, guys, whether you know it or not, there's actually a few threaded holes underneath the chassis on your S550, and that's where these little holes here are going to mount to. So again, Ford Racing does include all the hardware gaskets needed for this installation. Again, a solid two out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter. It's not exactly hard, but because you have to cut, I'll knock it up to two. And maybe about an hour or two from start to finish before you're all said and done. All right, guys, in my opinion, the Ford Racing Boss Style Mid-pipe for your S550 is just an awesome product from conception down to delivery. It's gonna give you a tone that's unmatched by any other aftermarket exhaust system out there for your ride, although it does come at a price.     Will this work with Eibach Sportline Lowering Springs? Will there be any clearance issues?

    • This system will work with the Eibach sportline springs yes. Now you will have less ground clearance so you will want to be careful when going over bumps.

    I currently have the Roush cut and clamp x-pipe installed on my 2017 GT. Will this work by replacing that x-pipe or will the pipe already have been cut too far?

    What exactly restrict me on putting this system on a convertible s550?

    • This Boss Style X-Pipe and Side Exhaust from Ford Performance will not work correctly on convertible models due to the additional bracing that is on the underside of the vehicle.

    Does this system have restrictor plates, like the OE on the '12-'13 Boss, which could be removed with two screws. It looked there were no plates on this system in the video. I have a Roush axle back currently, will this fit with this? How loud do you expect? I am considering a flowmaster outlaw axle back in its place, will that be much louder than the Roush?

    • The Ford Performance Boss Style X-Pipe and Side Exhaust will not come with the restrictor plates. The plates will be sold separately. Additional the X pipe and Side exhaust may require some slight modification to be used with a Roush axle back or any aftermarket exhaust system. The Flowmaster Outlaw system will very have a very noticeable increased sound from the Roush axle back.

      Amazing sound. Best rumble yet!

      I've had many different exhausts on my '16 5.0 and my '17 5.0. I've tried flowmaster outlaw axlebacks, corsa extreme catbacks, mbrp catbacks, borla attack axlebacks and out of them all this x pipe and the ford racing by borla sport is hands down my favorite. This offers the deepest tone with a real muscle car growl and I can't get enough. I love driving my car now. I don't know why people have said you can't daily this part with the destructor plates out. I haven't had them in at all and the smiles per gallon are unending. Thank you many times over ford racing for coming up with this wonderful part, and thank you American muscle for hooking me up and delivering it to me in Hawaii so quickly! If anyone has any doubts about this part all I can say is take the leap, bite the bullet and fork over your money, you won't regret it.

      After watching the review video by Justin, I purchased the exhaust. I agree with him when he said that it is almost the perfect sound. In fact, I love it so much, I barely listen to the radio. I could have saved some money and not have upgraded the sound system. Also, I love conduction sites now, due to the Jersey barriers. The side exhaust bounces off them and makes me giddy!

      Superb

      Amazing. Best exhaust hands down, you can stand outside talking like normal while it isles and when you cruise no one thinks you have exhaust, then when you accelerate it sounds like you have a nascar. You won’t regret it, expensive but worth it, also i get better gas mileage so that’s cool!

      Aggressive pure muscle car sound

      Had this installed paired with a borla S Type catback. The X-Pipe had to be shortened to pair with the catback but then slipped right into place. Sounds better than I could have imagined. Pure muscle

      Great Sound

      I used a combination of Quick Time Performance electric cutouts with remote control and kept the stock mufflers. When i need stealth, it's quiet. When it's time to let the Coyote breath...well it is Awesome to say the least. It's loud but not too loud. When i open the dumps eveyone just grins. Keep an eye out for Medusa on IG.

      Pair this with the QTP302 Electric Cutout so you can turn it on and off.

      Total shipping weight of 28LBS. This is not going to add much weight if your worried about the side pipes adding unnecessary weight. I rated 4/5 on Bank for your Buck because it is a lot more expensive than just the x-pipe. I give 4/5 on Fit and Finish because the hole for the side tip does not line up very well. Also there are two plastic guards you need to remove or the tips will touch it. Everything else was just like a normal X-Pipe install. I give it 4/5 on Exhaust Note because to me it sounds like open headers. Not that open headers sound bad, just not what I expected. I give it 5/5 on Loudness because without the provided restriction plate it is no doubt EXTREMELY loud. I give this exhaust 4/5 overall. I already had a ford racing x-pipe and I replaced it without having to change my previously made cuts to the axle-back. You will lose a small amount of ground clearance. Overall I am absolutely thrilled with my purchase and I would buy this exhaust again.

      Sounds insane!!!

      Absolutely love it! Sounds insane, if you love loud. I think it gave it a faster throttle response as well. Took the baffles out. Don't know how it sounds with them in, don't want to either. If you're looking for a racecar sound, this is what you need.

      The fit doesn't exactly match the rear axle side of the resonator piping. I had to pull it into place. The sound is monsterous though. A little too loud though for daily driving. I'm not sure if the loudness is due to the side or rear exhaust. It will be easy to place a flat plate where the restrictive plate would be, effectively turning off the side ports.

      Perfect sound

      Ford X-Pipe with side pipes paired with Roush Exhaust makes it the best sounding car on the road, in my opinion. It is loud but the right kind of loud it does make people not want to drive around me on 95 which clears a path! Directions are a little off with where to cut.

      Boss brings the tunnel with you!!

      I immediately noticed my coyote revs quicker now and I also get to redline quicker than expected during acceleration. This sound (without the baffles of course) is as loud as a straight through system on the outside but surprisingly not as noisy with the windows rolled up. You can drive on the highway or surface streets between 1-2.5k rpm and have a conversation without having to speak louder than a stock gt even though you'll have a deep bark gurgling in your ear. Above 3k things begin to get loud and raspy. I have had a catless x-pipe on a 2011 gt with Rousch axlebacks but this Boss style x-pipe with stock mufflers is just as loud outside but pleasantly more quiet inside the car. I LOVE driving my 'yote anywhere at any speed just to hear her pop and burble. I would have given it 5stars if it were $200 less however it is still worth every penny spent. Install involved more cutting than what the instructions prompted.

      Great part

      This part was a great addition to my supercharged 2016 Mustang. I did drill the restrictor out to 3/4". It's a great fit and a great sound. I'm glad I had a shop install this part as I have already done some modifications to my exhaust and remove the resonator right after I bought my Mustang. It did require making a few adjustments to the two blanks so everything would fit right. Still the install was just an hour and a half and only cost $150.

      Worth it.

      I put this exhaust on about three weeks ago. Definitely worth the money. I did it in my driveway with the car on jack stands and it only took about an hour and a half. Loud at cold isle but not bad once the car is warm. When you get on the gas it sounds amazing. I am not running the baffles and i think it is the way to go.

      Loud, loud, loud.

      Is this expensive? Yes it is. Is it worth it? Yes. This part is probably the best $1000 I have spent. The sound is incredible and YouTube videos don't do it justice. I have this paired with a Borla S-type axle back and it sounds phenomenal. Had the volume checked by a decibel meter and it registered 179.8. So if you want your car to be very loud with a great crackle buy this. Some of the other reviews say it's not for daily driving, but I disagree. At less than two thousand revs this is not overbearing.

      Brutal sound

      I liked in the cold start sound very loud but very loud after that is quite but the important thing is when you drive it sound deep sound like powerful when you hit the gas for race men !!!!! Sound like a race car I combine with the gt350 exhaust kit and valence the perfect combination

      Sound like a real race car....

      I wanted side pipes like my previous Boss Mustangs had for my 2015 Roush Mustang. This was the only option for the side pipes. The side pipes combined with the x-pipe and Roush's axle back exhaust makes for a very aggressive sounding car. It sounds great, but I will give the warning that it is loud. Maybe too loud for some people. I wouldn't want to drive it everyday with this setup, but is fine for a fun car that you drive when you want to hear that wonderful V8 sound. Perhaps if you had stock axle back mufflers, it may be more reasonable. With that said, I really am glad I bought these.. Hard to beat that crackle at around 3000 RPM and the burble when you back off the gas... and it is all right there just behind your ears. Good stuff!

      Quality piece that adds that extra roar you need

      I’ve owned this item for about 6 months now and have run it with and without catalytic converters. When catted it’s subtle but noticeable there’s something else there, but when it wasn’t catted it’s arguably one of the loudest system you can have. Only downside is my mustang is lowered on the eibach sport line springs and it’s enough to scrape on quite a few bumps and driveways.
