Hey, Justin with AmericanMuscle.com here, taking a closer look at the Comp Cams Mutha Thumpr Camshafts available for the 3-valve motor found in all 2005 to 2010 Mustang GTs. A set of new cams for your 4.6L is just one of many different ways to pull more power out of your 3-valve motor. Now if you're looking for more ways to increase the horsepower and torque in your Mustang, go ahead and click on the link below to subscribe to our YouTube channel or you can check out many of our different builds, including one very nasty 3-valve named Project Grabber Boost. Comp is one of those names that just about every Mustang fan should be familiar with. They've been producing quality camshafts and valve train components for over 35 years, making them one of the best in the biz. The Thumpr series camshafts are just one of many different cams offered by Comp and will give your GT a serious hot rod idle thanks to long exhaust duration along with some nice performance gains without having to replace your stock valve springs or retainers. In fact, Comp says that the Mutha Thumpr here is the largest cam they offer for the stock heads that will give you some nice performance gains throughout the entire power band but they really shine above 4900 RPM. In fact, go ahead and click on that link below to check out some of the customer reviews about these camshafts. While you're there, you can actually check out a video that one of our customer's link to his own ride, which will give you a good sense of how your idle will be with these cams in your 4.6. I do want to point out that, in addition to the cams themselves, you will need to pick up Comp's Cam Phaser Limiter kit, which is available from a drop down tab located on the product page. This allows your motor to still retain the use of its variable valve timing but will limit the total cam timing to prevent any piston to valve contact since the 3-valve is an interference motor. In addition to the Cam Phaser Limiter kit, of course you will need it custom-tuned, which is available from the bandwidth performance team. Installing a new set of cams along with the limiter kit is a job that should ultimately be left up to your local mechanic or speed shop due to the complexity of the work. On the other hand, if you're the type of person that likes to tackle any and everything with your ride, then go ahead and leave yourself about a full-day in the garage to get the job done. If you should have any questions about the install or about the Comp cams in general, you guys should know what to do by now. Hit us up with our 800 number or feel free to write us an email. If you've been looking to cam your three-valve and you wanna run the biggest possible cam with the stock heads, valve spring or retainers still in place, look no further than Comp Cams Mutha Thumpr Camshafts available right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Great sound but..
First these cams are great with borla atak and off road X-pype beautiful sound. Power wise its good for upper RPM range and that's about it. If you plan on drag racing your car I would look into different cams. Don't get me wrong with the right mods you can get them to work. Now If you have stock gears don't get these yet you need at least 3.73, I would recommend 4.10s. Because with stocks gears you will leave out the whole terrible. Also drivability with them are not so great without gears. Overall amazing cams for upper RPMs not so much for torque.Helpful (3)

This mod turns a car you drove into a driver. Need a tuner after installation, beautiful exhaust note but must have rear gears and converter change on auto would be nice. Otherwise you’re playing with the shifter and OD button under 55. Headers and CAI, of course. Cam loves 2000 rpm up. Under 2000 she is lagging badly and exhaust drone will wear you out. At a stoplight everyone hears this mod..... Everyone. Put your foot in it and from 4000 up you hear heaven....Helpful (3)

Cams for a sport Trac?
I ordered the comp cams stage 1 for a 08 mustang, BUT i installed in my 2007 Sport Trac 4.6L 3 valve like many other parts that i ordered from American Muscle, before I installed the cams i dyno the truck and did 258hp and 265 tq, after install the cams i drone the truck to the dyno (yes, you can drive the car after you install the cams, is safe) and did 286hp and 295 tq on the wheel, i gain 28 hp and 30 tq, i recommend these cams, these are not the only parts that you can use from a mustang to your 4.6L sport Trac, there are many interchangeable parts that you can use for your 4.6L sport Trac.Helpful (9)

These cams are everything I’ve wanted! The drivablility after the tune is awesome And it pulls so much harder above 4,000! Took me about 3 hours to install in my garage with basic hand tools and torque wrenches.Helpful (11)

Put these in last winter, first few times out (1/8 mile drag racing), the cams felt good on the big end but VERY flat out of the hole! (2006 Mustang GT with 5R55S automatic). added 4.10 gears and a 3500 rpm stall converter and the car came alive. Actual gains, cut a full second off my 1/8 mile E.T. Cams are great alone if all you want is sound, but real gains in performance come with the normal supporting upgrades. Current mods are the cams, 3500 rpm TCI Stall Converter, 4.10 Motive Gear gears, BBK long tube ceramic headers, BBK off-road x-pipe, Steeda CAI, Cherry Bomb single chamber mufflers, and a pair of Racestar 15"X10" rear wheels with 275/60-15 MT ET Street Radial ProsHelpful (7)

AMAZING SOUND AND POWER
First of all we did it in 4hours with moderate experience but this was our first attempt in the valve train. I get compliments everywhere I go, and now the car seems to keep pulling all the way to redline!Helpful (9)
Can these be put in an 06 Stage 3 supercharged Roush?
This set of cams by Comp Cams would work on any 2005-2010 Mustang GT, even if it is supercharged. However, I'd recommend talking to a tuner or engine builder to pick out a good cam for your application since a large cam isn't always the best option for forced induction.
any one knows how many horse power gives these cams compared with de Ford Racing ones? wich of them gives the improved performance from lower RPMs? what about the gasolines consumption using each one ?... or just the big difference is mostly the iddle sound ?
The biggest difference between the Comp Cams Cams and the Ford Performance hot rod cams will be the sound yes. However overall the Ford Performance cams are known to push a little more power than the Comp cams will.
How much horespower gain will i notice with this?
I have these cams put on with a full exhaust, in order to get the real feel of these cams you need to have long tube headers, an X pipe or H pipe of some sort as well as axlebacks. It's a huge difference compared to the stock cams, so you'll be looking at real horse power gains with supporting mods of about 30 RWHP, which is alot more than you think it is!
What would be the best tuner to buy for the custom tune???
We recommend the Bama X4/SF4 Power Flash Tuner or the Bama Rev-X Tuner by SCT for use with the Comp Cams.
Would these cams work with an auto trans?
Yes. I have them in my 06 with an automatic trans. But I would recomend a 3000 stall converter.
Not ideal... There are better blower cams out there.
No problem with everyday driving. Good drive ability. Good power.
If your goal is to obtain a lopy sound and a little more horsepower then there is no downside.
These Comp Cams Thumpr Cams can be installed with the factory catalytic converters.
Gains will vary based on exact mods, tune, driving habits, etc.
That's something you need to ask those writing your tunes. This is the case when asking about if anything will work with your tunes.
The gas required will depend on the tune you have.
These Muthathumpr will have a louder lope to them.
It will depend on your state's emission laws. We usually recommend checking with your state ordinances or a local shop.
