    Review & Installation Video

Hey I’m Justin with, here with a great way to add some of that retro 70’s styling to your 2010-2012 Mustang, using MMD’s rear deck lid panel. MMD is in the market of making unique, quality styling parts for newer Mustangs, and this retro style deck lid panel is a great example of this, this rear deck lid panel from MMD is a great way to bring out some more retro themes of the 2010 to 2012 cars and makes a great addition to the rear end of any Mustang. As you can see the panel does still retain that factory trunk emblem, thanks to that cutout making it look and fit like a factory part. Taking a closer look at the panel, you really can tell it’s a quality part, it’s been constructed from a durable and quick injection molded plastic, and does feature the slightest amount of texture here in the middle, which in my opinion does give the slightest little bit more character. It’s no surprise that we’re big fans of this rear deck lid panel from MMD, need some proof? Well, just check out our 2010 GT Project Blackout, or our 2011 GT bolt on build up which is on the lift behind me. Getting this panel installed on your Mustang is actually pretty easy, you’re going to want to first clean the trunk lid using the supplied alcohol prep pads, once everything’s cleaned off go ahead and remove the protective backing on the preinstalled 3M tape, and then line everything up using your trunk emblem as a guide, once in place go ahead and press firmly, and that’s it, getting everything cleaned up and installed should only take you about 30 minutes from start to finish. So if you’re looking to totally transform your 2010 through 2012 Mustang, with a retro item that installs in a matter of minutes, then be sure to check out MMD’s rear deck lid panel, available right here at

Retro Muscle Car Styling. Now you can add some aggressive retro styling to your Mustang with a Rear Blackout Panel from Modern Muscle Design. This MMD Blackout Tail Light Panel will give your Pony's deck lid the same aggressive appearance as the classic Muscle Mustangs of yesteryear.

Quality Construction. The Modern Muscle Design rear blackout panel is molded from ultra-durable high impact ABS black plastic for a perfect fit and features a round opening to allow your factory trunk emblem to show through.

Easy Installation. No drilling or messy bondo is required for installation. This MMD Rear Blackout Panel installs easily with the supplied doubled sided 3M automotive bonding tape for a quick and simple installation.

Application. This MMD Rear Blackout Panel fits perfectly on all 2010 to 2012 Mustangs, including the V6, GT, and Shelby GT500 models.

Can this be painted to match body paint? Is it possible to paint this item so it appears to be part of the trunk? I do NOT want to leave it plastic so it stands out.

    • Yes, it can be painted with the proper preparation. I fully sanded mine down to a very smooth surface before painting. It now has no textured appearance and looks great.

      Best fit on the market!

After having tried two other brands, and not finding either one to fit very good, I decided to give the MMD panel a try. To my delight, it fit perfectly right out of the box. And the two sided tape came pre-applied, something that could not be said of the other brands. Great fit, quality made, the MMD panel turned out to be a great accent piece on the car. Pair it up with the MMD matte black tail light trim and you have a great new look to the rear of your car!

      Decklid Panel

This product seemed very appealing online because from reading reviews of the other blackout panel for the 2011+ mustangs, i was turned away from the gts blackout panel (item number 80174) because it left a 1/4 to 1/2 inch gap around the fake gas cap. With my ingot silver mustang, i didn't want to be able to see the paint through the gap, i felt it would look unfinished and not of high quality. I ordered this piece and it arrived within 5 days. UPS damaged the box and the "tips" of the panel on the top half towards the sides had been punctured through the box, although it sucked, AM took care of me right and immediately sent a replacement piece. The replacement piece comes with signs of box damage again, but not nearly to the extent as the first. The top "tips" again were what was problematic, they were slightly bent. I took a nail file and just shaved off the little bit that was bent to make it look correct (im a perfectionist). The backing to the 3m tape was a little tricky to get off, i ended up using an exacto knife to pry it away and peel it off (could be from the arizona summer heat). The panel lines up perfectly and fits very nicely. I would say this is a great product, but i ranked it with 4 stars due to shipping trouble.

      Nice looking Deck Lid!

After taking this lid out of the box, I noticed the two top corners had some excess plastic on the tips. I shave this off with a dremel and added some black marker to to cover up any discolor. Also when putting the decklid on, the fit wasn't perfect and the right side didn't go all the way to the edge of the trunk. Its hardly noticeable unless you know its there. I did not feel like this was important enough to return the lid. Overall its still looks great.

      • Response from AmericanMuscle

There really shouldn't be any excess plastic on the corners, that's something we haven't seen before. If you get a chance, send us some pictures of the problem just so we can see exactly where the issue is. That way we can ensure it's not the case with any future shipments. Give us a call, we'll get a new decklid panel out to you right away. Feedback on these MMD panels has been very good, and you shouldn't have to live with mediocre fitment!

      good fitment and good looks

fits perfect and install is easy and quick -- make sure to use the alcohol wipes first -- only complaint i have is if you touch it, it will leave finger prints very easily that dont just wipe off with a rag. you actually have to wash it with soap and water to remove them. not really a big deal i just close the trunk touching the fake gas cap to avoid it.

      Classy Addition

Definitely a classy addition to my 2010 grabber blue Mustang. Easy to install (takes less than 5 minutes). Followed the tips that I read in other reviews by adding additional double sided tape (although probably not necessary), and making sure the alignment is perfect before pressing against your car. An excellent addition and I would highly recommend this product. I couldn't be more pleased.

      MMD's Blackout Panel

Another excellent product from MMD. The product is very high quality and fits perfectly with the lines of the car. It really made the backend of my car stand out. (Mines the white v6 with blue stripes) Installation is cake. I was also highly impressed with the packaging. I was at first torn between this and the magnetic blackout panel also offered on AmericanMuscle, but I decided to save up and purchase this. Highly recommended.

Better than I pictured it would be

After trying out the magnet rear decklid (with which I got what I paid for) I learned the lesson, did the research, scraped up the cash and got this one. It would only be easier to install if it jumped out of the box, cleaned your decklid panel, removed the 3M two sided tape protective layer and then jumped on the car itself. Seriously, if you take more than 5 minutes, you need to go find a 3 year old to do it for you, and consider going back to school. The photos online don't do it justice, it looks far better than I thought it would.

Looks great and finishes the look of my GT

After waiting several months and hitting points of indecision as to which panel to order, I ordered the MMD rear decklid panel as soon as it became available in stock at AM. I had installed a pair of flat black tail light frames a few months ago and now the MMD decklid panel completes the look I wanted to achieve. The install is very simple and was less than 10 minutes. Be sure to align the faux gas cap and the horizontal edges to make the fit good and ensure a clean surface to adhere the tape.

      Perfect Fit and Looks Great!

I was undecided about which decklid panel to get for my stang but I am very happy I chose this one. The fit was perfect and looks great. It really accents the car from the rear and turns it from a plain back to a tough aggressive one.

      Very nice product

This deck lid panel improves the looks of the rear of the 10, 11, 12 mustangs, giving it a much more complete look, and squares up the rear area with the tail lights. It's also different than ones you'd normally see from the factory, etc, so it has a unique look of its own. With tinted tail lights, the rear of the car looks much much more complete with a masculine, aggressive look. I wipe the panel down with a plastic or vinyl protectant which gives it a very black, clean look, after each car wash. Be sure to wash and clean the panel very well before sticking this piece on for the ultimate stick. Have had it on for 4 months with no issues.
