Is an X-Pipe necessary? I want to improve the sound of my GT. In a perfect world I would get both a Xpipe and new mufflers but I cant afford both of them at the same time. I know an Xpipe would really help the sound and airflow but do I need to buy the Xpipe first? Could I not just get these mufflers welded in at the local shop with my stock catted h pipe? And lastly would the interior drone be any worse if I didn't have the Xpipe. I want better sound on the exterior and NO DRONE. Thanks

        • I would recommend having the stock mufflers cut out , and weld the new 44 mufflers in , if your on a budget .. Once u have thats done see how u like the sound from there , u will get a deeper tone from the 44 mufflers very low drone .. If u want more of an aggressive deep tone I recommend an H pipe, if u want a higher pitch racey sound then the X pipe will do the job :-)

Will these mufflers pass a smog in california?

        • While mufflers do not generally affect smog inspection, the Flowmaster Super Flow 44 Series Muffler does not have a CARB number and may not pass an emissions check in California.

I am debating or which mufflers to get the 44 series or classic 40 series, I want my mustang to sound like deep, strong roar but at the same time i don't want to loud where I cant enjoy my driving , please help which mufflers will give that perfect muscle sound !

        • The 44 series has nicest rumble at lower rpms. It's never too loud at highway speeds, but does tend to resonate somewhat depending on the rpm range. I've tried all the favorites and this sounds the best. Headers, and larger diameter exhaust tubing help a great deal more for a serious rumble. All mufflers are somewhat restrictive by the very nature of their design. So that 'sound' you're hoping for will probably require more than just the 44's.

            Flowmaster supper 44.

There is not much of a difference from the stock muffler. I honestly expected more of a aggresive sound. It also gives a little of a rattle. The mufflers my mustang had before did not make that rattle noise.

            44s

Can hear the cam a bit more at idle compared to the original 40s. Slightly louder as well exhaust note isn’t very different but I’d say I still love the sound even more

            Flowmaster 44's Sound Great

I put these on my 1996 Mustang Gt (stock). Go with the 2.25 for perfect fit to stock exhaust. The 44's sound great, made my mustang sound like a Mustang. Deep Growl, not obnoxious. Sound really good under load. Definitely a lot better sound that stock.

I was hoping for more rumble in Idle, but it seems to be more louder from 1st thru 4th gear, overall i give it a 3 under what i expected.

            More aggresive

It made an increase sound difference, fits well, only thing is that it doesn't have that constant sound that I hoped for. All in all, its a great quality piece that makes my car more aggressive sounding and fools people into believing its a GT.

            Best mufflers on the planet!!

I've had 5 mustangs and I always put these on my cars with long tube headers and an H-pipe. But my next setup im going to try theAC prochamber. I always use the single inlet and dual outlet mufflers though and dump them before the rearend. It's a much different sound than the single outlets. And if you have a lopey cam, OMGOSH!! There is nothing like how these sound!!

            Sounds good

I got these put on my mustang to replace my SLP catback resonators, and they sounds great. My resonators got to loud for my car being my daily driver. I have SLP longtubes, bbk off road h pipe and the SLP catback system for the 98 mustang gt, all that paired with the resonators got way to loud but these 44s make it sound exactly how I want it, loud but not ear drum busting loud. It did sound good though. I might even try the 10 series flows. I probably picked up some HP from these to, I have a PI swap and when I got these put on it seems to have more pick up.
