Had the traction lock kit installed and it works as it should. My son left 2 stripes about 100 feet long on the asphalt leaving my mechanics house. I'd say it worked well.

this kit states that it works for 31 and 28 spline axles, but the metal discs that grab the axle shaft splines should either work for one or the other. and the picture shows a metal disc with 24 splines... there is a discrepancy here and im curious as to which axle shaft this kit would work for. Unless this kit does not include the medal splined discs i dont understand how this works for both...

    NotStan

    • The splined part of the disc in the Ford Performance Traction LOK Rebuild Kit does not ride on the axle and therefore will work with both 31 & 28 splined axles. If they did ride on the axles, they would indeed need to have the matching spline count as the axle being used.

01 GT auto Is my 01 gt auto supposed to be spinning only one wheel? if so can I use this kit to make it spin both with the same lsd? or even the carbon disc 31 spline with a 28 spline s spring? Thanks - Brad

    Brad917

    • No you gt isnt supposed to be a one tire fryer. Rebuilding the trac-lok will solve this problem for approximately 50k miles depending on driving habits, environment, etc. If you get a completely new carrier that is for 31 spline you will need new axles due to stock came with 28 spline.

I was getting one wheel tire fires and was very annoyed by this so I decided to order this along with 4.10 gears and it made a world of differences! Like night and day I am able to do most repairs on my own but for this I had a trust worthy shop install everything because this is somthing you don't want to mess up and you need the proper tools but all in all after getting everything done the only thing suffering are my tires!

      Easy as pie

Used this kit to rebuild a customers rear diff. Took me less than a hour to rbuild the differential itself because it was already out of the car. Everything fit perfectly and the kit comes with enough shims to over shim it for more bite at the track if your into that sort of thing... awesome product.

      Worth the money

Rebuilt the traction lok when I was installing the gears. Worked great and both tires spin now. Make sure you buy a new set of spider gears as well to make everything work correctly

      Great product for the price

Well definitaly works. When installing these you have to be careful of not packing it to tight. Make sure to measure the witdh of the previous ones with a caliper and making it a little thicker. To think and the spider gears wont match up on the holes and you can't put the dowel in the holes.

      New clutches better traction

Well since my stang it was factory rear end since 1997, it was in need of a full rebuilt, AM got this kit and it is a perfect fit for the 8.8 rear end. With this new kit, you get all of what is need it, spacers and clutches. As a new part of course is going to improve traction and the longevity of the rear end. I recommend this product to all.

better than buying a new diff, but kit should provide 2 extra clutches

I abuse my differential with drag racing: 2nd gear burnouts, 6000 rpm drop clutch launches, slick, etc. I am running mid/high-10's at 134 mph, and I still use a Ford tracloc. Unless you want to give up driveabiliy and get something indestructible like a locker or spool, it's almost a no brainer to just rebuild the Fordtrac loc with one of these kits than to get an aftermarket units that is not rebuildable. The key to making the tracloc last is to build the diff very tight using extra clutches. It would be nice if the kit provided these extra clutches, instead of having to re-use an old one. I only got 50-60 passes in my last rebuild with carbon disks, so I am going back to the old style clutches to see if they'll last longer. If the don't, I may be forced to finally get a spool or locker

      Rebuild rear end

Doing a total replacement of drivetrain (except motor) in 95 Cobra and changed rear gears to 3.73's. Put the Traction-LOK kit while inside the rear end and not sure of the difference by itself, but the rear end really hooks up and had no problems at the track. Install in this was less than an hour, since everything was already apart.

      Trac lok rebuild kit

everything is as pictured. The kit comes with several different sizes of shims so should fit your car. I can't attest to the performance gain since it's February in Mi and the car is garaged at the moment. The clutches were original in my car with 180,000 miles. I bought the mustang last year and had the one wheel peel, so this was on the list to repair. The job wasn't to difficult if you know your way around with wrenches.

      Traction in a box-

I bought this kit over a similar kit as this came with everything I needed and nothing I didn't for a price I couldn't beat. I installed this in my 96' Bronco 8.8 and the difference was immediate. I'm melting both 35" mud terrains with 3.55 gears with ease. I was surprised to find that upon disassembley my clutches didn't look as bad as I expected to find due to the poor performance, but what I did find was one side was put together differently than the other. I assembled in this order for maximum bite- bottom to top. Gear - steel, fiber, steel, steel, fiber, steel, fiber and then a shim. To adjust how aggressive you want your setup to be simply adjust the shim pack on top. This kit will comes with three different shim pairs - .010, .020 and .030. When I took my setup apart I found the .020 shim and that is what I went with - you can put too big of a shim and not get the spider gears in as well.

      Tearin up the strip

Best purchase yet. This with a set of 3.73s makes a whole different car. Gained six tenths in the 8th mile shortly after install and that was bad driving! I recommend this product to anyone and everyone with a fox.

      Ford Racing differential rebuild.

This is the classic rebuild kit for your limited slip differential that came commonly in V8 mustangs and some Lincolns, Mercurys, and trucks. This brings your friction modifier additive that is required to be added to your gear oil if it is not included by the oil manufacturer. Included is a new retaining bolt for the axle retaining pin. Be careful with the old retaining bolt which fairly often will break from normal use which might require some surgery with picks to remove. Always replace that bolt with a new one when you go into the differential! It's cheap insurance There is alot of info available out there on this job and complete walkthroughs to help you do it. New Gears, Rebuild Traction LOK

I'm having my 3.73 gears installed on my 01 GT and figured I'd have them rebuild the traction lok while I'm there. I'm only getting one wheel peel so needs rebuilt anyway. 99k miles, also just flushed my tranny fluid in the tremec. Should run great this summer, especially once I flash my tune over!

      Awesome rebuild!

I upgraded my axle to 4.10 gears and figured I better buy a traction lok rebuild kit while I have it apart. This item was just what my stang needed. Now I'm sending power to both wheels with no problem. Installation wasn't too hard after doing some research. I would highly recommend this to anyone doing an axle overhaul. Note that this part will only fit 8.8 ford axles. I do have a V6 Mustang but with a GT axle. Thanks AM for a great product.

Fool proof way to spin both tires!

This I did when installing 4.10 gears and it's one of the biggest bang for your buck u can get. The hardest part was installing the s clip I used two needle nose vice grips to clamp both sides and a soft hammer to edge it back into place. As for the discs I let soak in royal purple gear oil for 10 minutes before install and I did use the largest .040 shim on both sides. Overall great product and is for sure one good way to insure ur spinning both tires.

      Great product and great price

Resurrected an 88 mustang gt that was sitting for 10 years went to do axle bearings and found the cross pin bolt was broke off in the carrier so addressed that issue by removing the carrier just to find out my frictions were burnt through, ordered the ford racing trac-lok kit had it back together in no time, I used the factory stacking method and shimed it out to .030" feels nice and tight
