    Review & Install Video

Hey guys. Justin with AmericanMuscle.com here with a brief look into the Ford Racing by Borla Catback Exhaust system, available for your 2015 Mustang GT Fastback in your choice of either a chrome or black tip. The collaboration of Ford Racing and Borla has resulted in some great-sounding, high-quality systems for the last few years. And they continue to be a very popular choice with the S550 crowd. Now the sport system I have with me in this video here today is going to be the more aggressive of the two offerings from Ford Racing by Borla, the other being the Touring series. So let's talk about how this system gets its bark. Well, starting with the 2.5 inch mandrel bent tubing, all of it's stainless steel here in the incorporated x-pipe. Well, you're going to be picking up more of that raspy growl as opposed to that low, thumping grunt of an h-pipe as you guys all just heard with the sound clips. Now because you are replacing the factory suitcase resonator with this x-pipe, and because we are working with a full stainless build here, you can expect to ditch roughly 30 pounds off of your S550 when making the switch to the Ford Racing by Borla Catback. In addition to that x-pipe, a main contributor of the sound here is going to be from these Ford Racing by Borla sports series mufflers, which are a straight through muffler by design. I know it doesn't look that way. These things do look chambered and therefore they look like they might be a little quiet, but that couldn't be further from the truth. The goal with this system here was to provide a nice aggressive tone but with plenty of street manners, something that will turn heads when you're on it but be whisper quite in the cabin while cruising, and they certainly nailed it. Rounding out these sports series mufflers here, we have the 4 inch slash cut tips, again available in your choice of either black or polished, embossed with that Ford Racing logo. Getting this Catback bolted up to your new GT will definitely be an easier task compared to older generations, thanks largely in part to that new independent rear suspension. Now because of this, dropping the factory system and getting this new thing bolted up should only take you a couple of hours from start to finish using basic hand tools and maybe an extra set of hands just to make life a little easier on yourself. As always, if you have any questions, guys, reach out to a Mustang expert here at AM anytime. They're always standing by ready to give you a hand. So if you guys are in the market for one of the premium exhaust selections available for your S550 GT, be sure to check out the collaboration between Ford Racing and Borla with their Sport Catback available at AmericanMuscle.com.

Aggressive Throaty Sound. Add an aggressive throaty exhaust note to your coyote powered 2015-2017 GT Fastback Mustang with a Sport Cat-Back exhaust system that features a pair of Ford Racing straight-through sport mufflers and 4" embossed black exhaust tips. This catback not only sounds great, but also improves exhaust flow with the included X-Pipe for an increase in horsepower and torque.

Race Car Growl. The included X-Pipe not only helps increase power, but it also adds a loud raspy, race car growl to the sound of your exhaust with its modern "X" crossover pipe design.

Borla Stainless Steel Construction. This Sport Cat-Back exhaust system is manufactured especially for Ford Racing by Borla from high quality mandrel bent 2.5" stainless steel tubing and features straight-through sport mufflers with 4.0" black painted stainless tips embossed with the Ford Racing logo. The tips exit in the stock locations so no modifications are required to the rear bumper cover.

Lightweight. This Ford Racing Sport Cat-Back exhaust system is 30 lbs. lighter than the factory Ford catback system, making it perfect for track and drag racers looking to shed unwanted weight in the pursuit of quicker times.

Legendary Ford Racing Quality. When you're adding new parts to your Pony, you can't go wrong by installing parts from the folks that know it best. Ford Racing's legendary quality ensures a perfect fit and years of hassle-free use.

Application. This Ford Racing by Borla Sport Cat-Back Exhaust System is designed as a direct bolt on replacement for the coyote 5.0L powered 2015-2017 GT Fastback and Convertible Mustang for both great looks and great sound.

Technical Note. The included mufflers are 49 state drive-by noise legal, not intended for use in the state of California.

Is there a way to visually distinguish this from the Ford Performance by Borla Touring Cat-Back? I am trying to identify an exhaust installed by a previous owner, I know it must be one of these two but in sound clips they both just sound really loud...

    • The Ford Performance by Borla Sport Cat-Back Exhaust and Ford Performance by Borla Touring Cat-Back Exhaust will be virtually identical visually.

I am looking for the Ford Performance Cat Back on my 2017 GT with P/P. But cant make up my mind on Touring vs. Sport. I am looking for some nice pop and crackling when backing out of the gas. I would like some more throaty notes but can anyone tell me if the sport while driven calm can be controlled. I leave for work very early in the morning and don't want to become the public enemy. All the video clips are so hard to really get a sense of actual volume. Thanks for any help.

    • The Ford Performance by Borla Sport Cat-Back Exhaust will be an aggressive exhaust, though not exceedingly loud. Due to the fact that this includes a resonator delete, this will be louder than the average axle back exhaust.

      Exhaust notes greatly impoved

I was very pleased with the sound of this exhaust setup. It has a nice rumble at lower rpm without excessive drone in the cabin and when you accelerate above 3-4,000 rpm or so the whole neighborhood knows where you are.

Ford Performance by Borla Sport Catbacks

I'm disappointed in these. I had Roush axle backs on my previous 2014 Mustang GT that sounded great. Very deep throaty sound. I was hoping to get a similar sound with these on my 2016 Mustang GT/CS. Unfortunately, they are more raspy than I like. I'm hoping over time they will get a deeper tone. I'm not too excited about having to buy a different setup but it may come to that.

      Sounds Awesome!

Sounds amazing. It’s a little louder than I expected, but no regrets. Doesn’t drone going down the highway, comes alive when you get on the throttle! It only took about an hour to get on, but took another to get both tips to sit even in the openings.

      Sounds Bad - Looks Bad

For my black 2015 Mustang GT Premium, I ordered the Ford Performance by Borla Sport Cat-Back Exhaust - Black Tips on Mar 19. 2018. They arrived at my home somewhere between noon and 1:30pm, on Mar 22nd by UPS - 2nd Day! I don't the skills or the patience to install the system myself, so I take it to the Ford dealership or in this case, to my local muffler shop. It took them about an hour and forty minutes to install. The sound is totally awesome! It seems to have more quickness now! When I'm shifting thru my gears now, I can see people turning to look and listen! I love it! And the black chrome tips blend in perfect with my Pony! I have an appointment on Mar 30th for the Ford dealership to complete an engine performance analysis, which was recommended so my new system will be "in tune" with the engine! By the way, my Pony ain't for the track! It's for stylin' and profilin' :-)

      The Mustang sound...

Install is was simple and easy. Hardest part was removing stock exhaust solo. Quality and looks on the new exhaust second to none. Love the black tips and Ford Racing logo. Done alot of research on sound before I pulled the trigger, it was what I was looking and wanted to hear!

      Let your Coyote growl

What a difference! Installation was a breeze and took less than an hour with my favorite mechanic and his lift. When you first start the engine it has a deep throaty rasp that quickly calms down to no louder than the stock exhaust, but with a nice rumble. Sounds awsome going through the gears, and the wife said it reminded her of the late 60's muscle cars we were around as young drivers. Yes us 60 something old farts aren't all at home in the slow lane. At cruising speeds they calm down with no drone like other systems that are just loud for the sake of being loud. As Richard always says, "Get ya some of that" and wake up your Coyote!

      Finishing Touch

I purchased this exhaust after a lot of researching and listening on American Muscle and I was very happy with the results. My husband (with my assistance) installed them on a Saturday and it was a great upgrade from the factory exhaust that Ford offers. We also installed the cold air intake from Roush (on Sunday). These two together was a great upgrade for my Mustang. (2017 Cali Special)

      Sounds great

Read all the reviews before purchasing, it went just like everyone said. I paid midas $150 to install although that was pretty steep considering how easy it was to do. We had bad weather that day and I was too anxious to get it on so I paid to have it done. I've wasted a lot of gas mashing the pedal just to hear exhaust. Wish it was a little cheaper but I'm happy with how it turned out. Its only loud when I get on it which is great so I don't upset the neighbors. It sounds like a mustang now and I keep my warranty!

      Best sound for the 5.0

These Borla mufflers, to me personally, have the best tone when it comes to the Coyote. They are plenty loud if you want something that you can hear without drone. They really come alive at 4,000RPM and above. Install took less than an hour but I did have a lift as well as an extra pair of hands to help. The fit is great as well as the quality, as can be expected from a Ford Performance and Borla product.

The exhaust was a very easy install with a lift, but couldn't imagine it being much more difficult without one. Took 30 minutes or so and was up and sounds great. Just wish it sounded louder. It has a great tone and volume but you have to get on it before you hear it after it warms up.

      Great exhaust

Great exhaust. Comes alive when you go wide open throttle, can be reasonably quiet if you baby the accelerator and dont want to wake the neighbors. Loud cold start! Not louder than the corsa extremes or borla ataks, but certainly not quiet. Only minor drone in 5th at 2k, barely noticable in 6th. If you want that raspy race exhaust tone, this is the one. Install was easy and by the book, took me about 4 hours with car on jack stands. I would recommend using a lift and having a second person with you if able though. Did it myself and it took a bit of muscle getting the stock exhaust off and out from under the car (weighs like 70lbs and is one piece).
