Hey, guys, Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, here with my detailed review of the MBRP Race Catback Exhaust System with Y-Pipe, fitting your 2015 and up Fastback EcoBoost. Now, the Race Catback from MBRP is one of the most popular options for your EcoBoost here on the site and for a few different reasons. For starters, it's currently one of the most affordable options for your ride; it's going to offer full three-inch diameter piping from tip to tip; and finally it sounds really good despite not costing you an arm and a leg. Now, one thing I personally really enjoy about MBRP is the amount of options they give you in choosing the right system for your ride. For instance, we're looking at the full stainless steel version of the Race Catback here. It's going to cost you a little bit more but not by much. It's going to offer a full lifetime warranty from MBRP, largely in part to the full 409 grade stainless steel construction throughout that's going to do a good job of reducing any surface corrosion. In addition to that, MBRP does throw two aluminized steel versions of this exhaust at you. One's going to come with black mufflers, black tips, and black piping, and the other's going to be left in that raw aluminized steel silver color. Now, both of those options only carry a three-year warranty, but they're going to be the most affordable. Now, I did want to spend a little bit of time on tone, because obviously, this is an exhaust after all, and that's a big deciding factor. But a big question I get a lot is: How do I make my four-cylinder EcoBoost Mustang sound good? And honestly, guys, a lot of that is going to depend on what your definition of good is, but what I can tell you is that the MBRP Race is going to deliver a very enjoyable tone, deep, low tone here with practically zero rasp, minimal drone on the highway, definitely not a deal breaker, but you can hear it slightly, and overall, a very, very solid three out of five on my one to five or one to wake the neighbors scale.Again, you can hear this thing, but it's not going to be totally crazy loud. However, add in your favorite off-road or catless downpipe, and that number would go up considerably. As for the construction, guys, well, again, I did touch on this earlier, but you do have the full stainless option available to your here. That's the one I have on the table with me, 409 grade stainless. It's going to offer a little better durability over time. It's going to cost you a little bit more, but you do get that full lifetime warranty with the system. Those two aluminized steel versions, again, great systems. They're going to be a little bit more affordable, but they're only going to carry that three-year warranty, maybe not be as durable when it comes to reducing surface corrosion, but overall, still a great system. You are getting three-inch mandrel-bent tubing from tip to tip with this system, solid welds despite the price, and you are getting the race mufflers, along with the very large four-and-a-half-inch slash-cut tips, etched with the MBRP logo. You are going to be looking at a simple one out of three wrench difficulty here, guys, when it comes to the install. No cutting or permanent modification needed whatsoever. This is a direct bolt-on part that should make the install a little bit more easy on you. Now, as for tools, well, simple socket set here. You're going to need a large Allen key to tighten up these tips here, but overall, figure about an hour or two in the garage or driveway before you're making some noise. All right, guys, to wrap up the MBRP Race Catback, I do really enjoy this system for the simple fact that it sounds good; you have some options when it comes to the materials; and it's not going to cost you and arm and a leg to put it on your car. So be sure to check out more from MBRP for your EcoBoost Mustang here at AmericanMuscle.com.

It was very easy to install it took less than an hour with a few friends to install. I like the sound and it is definitely better than the stock sound by a long shot. It sounds much deeper and more aggressive than the videos give it credit. I think it is a very nice and contained sound. The only reason I gave it four stars is because I would personally want it to be louder, BUT, I am definitely being EXTREMELY picky. It is a very good exhaust, especially for the price. The black looks great with my magnetic grey and black build.Helpful (0)

Great exhaust, highly recommend
Looks great and was very easy to install. Took us about 45 minutes and everything turned out great. Sounds good and has a little bit of drone but not too much. I have it paired with a catless downpipe and an upgraded nx2 turbo so it really sounds goodHelpful (0)

Product came in great shape. I installed this with jacks and jack stands on my own. After watching the videos, it was quite easy to install. I ended up cutting my old exhaust out to make it easier. I had to use an air ratchet to remove the slightly rusted bolts at the downpipe clamp. The hardest part was putting the black portions on the Y pipe and hangers. GET GREASE. I recommend removing the rear hangers and bolting them back on once you have the black pieces clamped on. The sound is great. It's a deep tone for sure. Cutting the resonator out definitely makes it much louder. If you don't want to constantly hear your exhaust, maybe just keep stock exhaust. I personally enjoy it. I do get some small pops and crackles on decel. The tips are also huge and sexy. I'm pretty satisfied with this purchase. Deep aggressive sound without sounding like a ricer Honda.Helpful (0)

What a lovely exhaust
The forums and the reviews are all right, this exhaust is a great balance of value, sound, and overall bang for buck that is not really rivaled for other options imo. The note is deep and throaty, but there' little to no drone whatsoever at highway speeds. I love this exhaust so much, it's made me fall in love again with my stang. A much needed upgrade, thanks MBRP! Also note, this is 50 state legal, and doesn't require a tune as the FAQ mentions.Helpful (1)

After several u-tube views and owner reviews I went wit the MBPR cat back! The sound is deep and the car thrombs in all gears. Many looks at the stop lights my black on black theme was intact thanks to the black option. No drone at all stop thinking and start modding right now. “Black Beauty” needs companionship.Helpful (0)
Is it 50 state legal and will I pass smog if I was to run turbo back mbrp with a catted down pipe in California?
The Catback exhausts do not deal with emissions and smog, so it would be safe to say the MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust is indeed 50 state legal. Being from California, the only exhaust pieces you would need a CARB certification on the product for would be catalytic converters as well as a new down pipe.
I would like to have the same type exhaust system for ecoboost convertible 2016
Unfortunately, the MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/ Y-Pipe - Race Version is only available for Fastback Mustangs.
Will this exhaust rust since it’s not stainless steel?
This will rust over time yes.
What other downpipes can I use other than the MBRP 3" because its on backorder...
What’s the difference in the XP series, the Installer series, and the Black series?
The XP series will offer the most aggressive sound out of the three and will also be made from stainless steel. The other two will be made from aluminized steel. The black series is similar to the Installer series with the only difference being the exhaust tips are black.
The MBRP Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/ Y-Pipe will not require a tune. The MBRP Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/ Y-Pipe will produce a more aggressive sound and tone compared to the "Street" version of this exhaust.
This exhaust will fit all 15-18 EcoBoost fastback models without any issues. Please note this will not fit convertible models due to different bracing.
While we do not see any reason the MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/ Y-Pipe would not fit the EU models we would not have an EU mustang to do test fitting on and cannot confirm.
We suggest taking the MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/ Y-Pipe to a shop to ensure a proper install with any other exhaust modifications you are making.
Hello! The MBRP Race Cat-Back Exhaust w/ Y-Pipe will only fit Fastback Models
This exhaust will work with the cPe downpipe since both of the pipe sizes are 3" in diameter.
While this MBRP Race Cat-Back Exhaust w/ Y-Pipe should not void warranty, as it does not change the catalytic converters, however, we are not able to make a guarantee. The warranty details are handled and decided by Ford exclusively, and since warranty exclusions change from time to time, we would not be able to provide accurate information. For warranty details, we would highly recommend speaking to the dealership which your Mustang was purchased through.
The size of the inlet on the MBRP Race Cat-Back Exhaust w/ Y-Pipe - Black Tips - Fastback (15-17 EcoBoost) is 3". If you are looking to match a downpipe to it, I suggest getting the cp-e QKspl Downpipe - Catted (15-17 EcoBoost) item #388890 (http://www.americanmuscle.com/cpe-catted-downpipe-1516eco.html) as it has the option of a 2.25" or 3" inlet.
The MBRP Race Cat-Back Exhaust w/ Y-Pipe - Black Tips - Fastback (15-17 EcoBoost) will have more of the crackling and popping sound over the street version.
