Review & Installation Video

Hey everyone. Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com, here with my review of the Ford Racing by Borla Touring axle-back exhaust system, fitting your 2015 and up Fastback GT. This is one of the two offerings from Ford Racing by Borla for your S550 GT, and this is going to be the milder option of the two, with the Ford Racing by Borla Sport being a little bit louder. While this is one of the milder options that's on the market for the 2015 and up, what I really like about this axle-back is the deepness of the tone. This axle-back doesn't get raspy in the higher RPMs, like some of the other options tend to, and that's a really good thing, in my opinion. But it really all depends on what you're looking for. This system gives more of that classic muscle car sound, and it will still no doubt turn heads. So on a scale of one to five, with five being your neighbors are constantly complaining every time you drive by, I would give the Ford Racing by Borla Touring a strong two in terms of overall loudness, and especially since, with the axle-back, you're keeping your factory resonator. This is definitely not the loudest system out there, but it is one of the best sounding in my opinion. It has a really nice pitch to it, making it sound more aggressive and powerful to me, and it's not as obnoxious from the inside of the car, either. If you're going for straight up volume, then American Muscle does have all other options on the site for you, such as the Borla ATAK. This system does feature two and a half inch stainless steel tubing, which is perfect for daily drivers and lightly modified street cars. Obviously, Ford Racing and Borla are legendary for their quality, and as such, they're at a premium with their price point. Now, they're not the highest priced out there, but we all know that if you want a quality product, you have to pay for it. And with the sound of your Mustang being one of the most important aspects of the car, I tend to lean towards buying quality here, personally. When it comes to the install, I'm going to call this a two out of three wrenches on the scale, solely due to the cutting that we all know is required with the install of a 2015 axle-back. But don't let this scare you away from this system. You just need to have a fresh Sawzall blade and some eye protection, and the patience to measure what it will be cutting. The axle-back should bolt up in an hour or two, tops. I really like the Ford Racing by Borla Touring axle-back, and while it has a higher price point, it's totally worth it, especially when you remember that you're getting the build and quality that comes along with names like Borla and Ford Racing. Be sure to check out a system for your S550 right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

I just purchased a 2016 GT and I would like a little rumble but not a loud exhaust as I'm getting older and plan to travel with this car. Would this be very loud if I keep the rest of the system stock. Thanks for your input.

  • Due to the touring style mufflers that come with this Ford Performance by Borla Touring Axle-Back Exhaust system, it will definitely give your '16 GT a powerful exhaust tone, without being too much louder than the stock exhaust.

Hi guys!! In the exhaust loudness meter you said that is a 2-3, my question is, if i install an X pipe how hight in the scale will it go? Thank you in advance.

Armandito

  • If installing a catted X-Pipe with the M-4204-F318C, the exhaust note will increase slightly in volume, but with a much more aggressive tone. If installing an off road X-Pipe, the exhaust will be significantly louder. Unfortunately the scale is a bit subjective, but with the off road x this would be a solid 4/5 and with the catted x or a cut and clamp x, this would be a nice solid 3/5

    Just Right....

I have a 50th Anniversary Convertible. I didn't want something obnoxiously loud with the top down, and the reviews pointed me to this exhaust. I didn't delete the resonator; figured I could later if I wanted. This exhaust does not make the car stupid loud. The rumble at idle is deeper, and when you stomp on it it growls. At normal speed, this is barely louder than factory. I'm happy with it- while I could've tolerated a bit more volume, it sounds good. I've also noticed a bit more pep, especially in sport mode. Pretty amazed at the difference made by this one simple change. I had it installed at my local dealer- thanks Champion Ford Reo. They knocked it out in under an hour and only charged me $65. Can't beat it.

Exactly the sound I was looking for

I have a 2016 GT Premium Convertible. The stock exhaust is just a little too weak sounding but I didn't want a loud heavy sounding exhaust note. The Ford Racing, Touring axle back exhaust is perfect. Just the right amount of growl with a lower tone than the stock mufflers and zero drone. I could add an H pipe later if I want it to be louder but probably won't. Oh, A-M's spec (will it fit my mustang) says these don't fit the convertible, not true. The Ford/Borla axle back fit the convertible perfectly but some other brands with longer extension pipes probably won't. You can't go wrong with these, they cost more than some brands but are well worth the cost. I am really pleased with my choice.

    Incredible sound

Thanks AM for your help and guidance in deciding which exhaust was right go my new 2015 Mustang GT. It arrived 2 days after it was ordered and packaged with great care. I had my local Ford dealer install it to make sure it would not void the warranty in any way and was assured by them that it would not. Cost less than $250.00 to do so. When ideling, it has a very mellow sound, but when you really get on it, it will definitely turn heads. The chrome tips also look awesome. No neighbor complaints yet!! Love it and thanks again for all the assistance from AM.

    Perfect muscle car sound

I had the local muffler shop do the install for me. The chrome tips look great on my black car. I did the ford racing x pipe and the mufflers together. The sound is perfect! Sounds mellow...healthy...but if you really get on it it barks! With the windows up...no drone. Mellow sounds. Just the right amount of sound. Vert happy with it.

    amazing quality

Ive run a many exhaust systems on various applications and this one is by far the most impressive to me. Very easy straight forward install and an amazing exhaust note with zero drone, won't irritate anybody, but still has that deep tone your looking for. Cops won't bother you and when you step on the throttle it really opens her up. Only slightly louder than stock. The biggest pro is you won't lose any torque.

    Wanted a little more sound

These add a good tone, but from in the car is about the same sound level as stock noise wise. Barely a noticeable change. I didn't want roudy, but I wanted a little more. Probably will add x-pipe to eliminate stock resonator for more sound.

    Quality

The quality is top shelf. Love the tips. Sounds great just a little louder than I had hoped for. At normal throttle they are bearly louder than stock. Idle has a muscle car sound. The engine revs easy now . Would do it again but leave the resonator on.

Touring Axle-Back Ford Racing by Borla

This exhaust really should be the factory stock equipped mufflers. The sound is lower/throatier/deeper and I estimate 25 louder over stock. No drone. They look much nicer and the 4" tips fill out the back muffler openings better. Excellent chrome finish. Very pleased. Kept the stock resonator.

    Deep Classic muscle car tone!

I installed these on my 2016 5.0 Premium and the sound is perfect muscle car. Light, deep tone that doesn't get but a lil louder than stock. The tips are beautifully polished and looks great. I always had aggressive exhausts so I wanted to be able to enjoy the car comfortably and still sound good. So if you looking for muscle car tone to let you hear that coyote look no further this is your ticket. AM 2 day was perfect and packaged very well. Thanks AM

    Love it

I love the tone that the touring exhaust has. Not to loud, but definitely gives you a much needed boost in volume over stock. When paired with the FRPP side exit exhaust it will put your mustang in a class of its own.

Ford Racing by Borla and Ford Racing X pipe

The sound of the exhaust is awesome at start up and gets even better through the acceleration. A strong powerful exhaust note that can turn raspy as you "get on it" which is attributable to the X Pipe. Drive the car conservatively and, except for when you start up, you would think it is only slightly louder than the stock exhaust. I didn't tell my wife I was doing this installation and she hasn't mentioned a discernible difference when riding or driving the car......yes, I let her drive it! The fit and finish is great...Ford Racing and Borla have produced a great product!

    Great product when paired right.

Paired with a Ford Racing X-Pipe, this is the perfect setup. Not too loud at lower RPM's but when you step on the gas t really opens up. Might be too quiet if by itself.

    Nice exhaust

Very impressed with the fit and finish! I wish it had a little more rumble at idle but very happy with the sound going through the gears and I like the fact that it’s not much loader than stock at 65 mph. No drone at all. I’m very happy with my choice buying this axle back exhaust.

    Ford Performance Touring Axle Back

Well I originally had the Corsa Sport cat back system, the system was just to raspy and loud, so I purchased the Ford Performance Touring Axle Back and paired it with Corsa's 3 inch X Pipe and it tamed the system down, no more raspy and loud exhaust. It now has a tame start up, and awesome classic car rumble, but when you hit the gas, that Corsa X Pipe takes over, love it.

    Just loud enough

I really like the Ford Performance Touring Axle Backs. I wanted a growl you don't get from the stock set up. I did a lot of research online and decided on these. They fit what I wanted perfectly. As a senior, who is almost 70, I am able to choose which neighbours I wake up. Not just everyone. Overall I am completely happy with the sound and the quality.
