In need of a new diff cover and gasket. How do I know this will fit my diff? Or how can I measure my diff to get the correct cover?

    • If you purchased your Mustang from the factory, you may follow the "Will it fit my Mustang" section on the product page for this Scott Drake Differential Cover. The 7.5" and 8.8" rears have different covers and gaskets, so you may compare the cover and or gaskets to one of a 7.5" or 8.8". Alternatively, you could always measure the size of the ring gear, but this would require digging into the carrier.

"in the box" doesn't mention drain bolt or fill bolt like the Steeda does. Are those included? Also, my owners manual says factory fill is 2 qts, you say I will need 3 qts, why the increase?

    • This holds more oil so it will be requiring the 3 quarts. The only hardware this Scott Drake Differential Cover will be the fastening hardware as seen in the product pictures.

Scott Drake dif cover is a win!

Install was a breeze, looks great and holds extra oil to help keep the differential cool. The bearing cap preload set screws help ensure that the differential doesn’t walk around under load. Great price and will definitely inspire some confidence under hard launches! Thanks AM.

      Nice Cover

I mostly drag race my '06 GT and needed to update the clutch pack in the differential. I'm running in the 11's now with Roush supercharger at 8 pounds of boost. Decided at my power levels a nice solid cover with convenient drain plug was a good upgrade. Well made, fits perfect.

Nice looking cover and a good price. The parts itself would be 5 stars but the one I received was in a damaged box and half the hardware was missing.

      rear end cover by drake.

Recieved cover, box was damaged but all parts were still intact. Installed with rearend still in car. I had removed swaybar so it was easier to install. I used permetix rear end gasket maker because it is friction modifier safe. I put teflon tape on main bearing bolts and added more to fill and drain plugs. I also added lock washers to all reareand bolts. Cover fit well and have no leaks. Looks great under the car

      Make it easy

Knowing that the bolts are too long with these, I would advise that it is best to put these covers on with studs. Lock-tight the studs then use lock nuts, the crush type for the best lock down. This is far better than bolts. Also studs nearly always are strong and less likily to work lose.

having a drain plug is an added bonus to the looks and strength

After reading the reviews I decided to buy this differential cover to replace the factory one, and before installing I made sure to shave some of the threads off the ends of the supplied bolts to make sure it would seal properly. I don't really notice much difference when I put the foot down, but I believe that the main purpose of the units is to keep the rear end from blowing up.

Great fitment, buy extra gear oil

Just installed this today. Fitment is perfect, and even fit better than stock cover with aftermarket sway bar. My only gripe is that this cover requires a bit more gear oil. I dumped 3 quarts in there along with the friction modifier, but its still not full (this is on an 1988 with 3.55 gears). Buy an extra quart just in case.

Nice part but hardware is junk!

Cover is very nice and sturdy but bolts that it come with are cheap looking and drain and fill plugs have magnets in them which is nice but not when they leak. The plugs are drilled and then a magnet pressed into it but they drilled too deep causing the oil to leak thru the drain plug. This is very upsetting considering the royal purple 75w-90 is not cheap at all. So before you fill the rear end up full of liquid hold buy you some drain plugs that seal and don't leak

      Extra support

No real performance gain... just peace of mind since , I now run 325/50/15 drag radials on my foxbody... Knowing i have a bit more rear end support makes me feel safer launching. A must have if your doing hard launches from a standpoint., Rear diff cap failure is common, this is a cheap way to help staying away from a expensive rebuild. Easy to install for the common guy...takes less than a hour, top it off with a good fluid and be on your way. P.S remember not to over tighten the cap braces...lite pressure is needed.

      The Drake diff. cover project

This is a very nice piece to add to any Mustang. My factory cover leaked and looked cheap. I chose not to un-bolt the massive rear sway bar on my Roush Stage 2 so it took extra time to slide the Drake cover into position. The bolts all fit fine but getting at them for torquing was not easy. The complete job took me 3 hours start to finish but I am meticulous. Here is a real tip, you only need 2 quarts of gear oil and 4-8 ounces of LSD additive to fill the differential housing. DP

Use Caution - what gears do you have

Well-made cover but take note: This will not fit gears larger than 4.10. AM was exceptional in working through this issue as they were not aware of the fitment issues. They issued a return with my first phone call to customer service; the second cover shipped that same day and arrived the next day only to find out that the second one did not fit either. Depending on the date of manufacture the instructions are different. A second call to AM customer service led to a call to the manufacture, which by the way was placed for me by the AM service technician I was working with at AM. After talking to Scott Drake Engineering they confirmed that anything over the 4.10 would not clear the inside of the cover, they also confirmed the change to the instruction sheet this spring to include a special note regarding this fitment issue so beware. AM issued another return no questions asked, note that AM returns ship back on their dime no shipping charges they even provide the shipping label for you. Three days after I my return was delivered back to AM I received a full refund to my credit card. AM I must admit I am impressed great job, one of the best online retailers I have ever dealt with –much better than the other guys over at SR. Thanks –note there are covers out there that work hopefully AM will start carrying one of them in the future.

      Easy Install !

The cover was easy to install. It only took 45 minutes. Tip: Lift the body and let the rear axle drop. This will give more room between the gas tank and ring gear. The major benefit to this cover is the ability to drain the gear oil without removing the cover.
