    Review & Install Video

Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is my quick look into the Magnaflow catback exhaust system fitting the 99-04 Mustang GT and Mach 1. Right off the bat, I can tell you this isn’t going to be the loudest kit in the world, thanks in part to the traditional chambered muffler design. What you can expect from this kit is for it to be slightly more aggressive than stock, when idle and while cruising, but really comes to life when you get on the throttle. Just because this system is a little on the quiet side doesn’t make it a bad exhaust, as a matter of fact it’s far from it. We’re looking at a full stainless steel constructions throughout, including 2.5” mandrel bent tubing, quality welds, and a quality finish, both on those chambered mufflers, and on those 3.5” flared polished tips. As the factory exhaust is all one piece you will need to cut it off with a saw or something similar, once you get that out of the way, getting the magnaflow installed is a very straightforward task, that should take you about 2 hours using standard hand tools. Now let’s hear how Magnaflow’s catback exhaust system sounds compared to your factory exhaust.

Free Flowing Exhaust. Magnaflow delivers the ultimate exhaust for the 99-04 GT, Bullitt, and Mach 1 Mustangs with this Street Cat-Back Exhaust System. By reducing back pressure for a free flowing exhaust, more power and torque is produced where it belongs - at the rear wheels.

Classic Muscle Car Sound. The Magnaflow Cat-Back Exhaust System includes a set of two Street Series Mufflers that feature a free-flowing, straight-through perforated stainless steel core, with stainless mesh wrap and acoustical fiber fill to deliver that smooth, deep muscle car tone.

Quality Construction. Each piece of this Street Exhaust is made from 2.5" mandrel bent stainless steel tubing for long life and a perfect fit. The system is finished off with brightly polished 3.5" stainless steel tips that exit from the stock location for impressive good looks.

Application. Made to be a direct bolt on, this Magnaflow Street Cat-Back Exhaust will bolt straight up to the factory Mid Pipe without any extra modifications required on 1999-2004 GT, 2001 Bullitt or 2003-2004 Mach 1 Mustangs.

Note: Coupon codes cannot be applied to this product.

Lifetime Warranty is included with all Magnaflow catback systems.

would this gt catback fit on a v6 if you removed the stock y midpipe and ran a h pipe with long tube headers?

    AnthonyM

    • This will certainly fit if you purchase the MAC Off-road H-pipe that works with long tube headers we offer. I will post a link to this product below: https://www.americanmuscle.com/mac-or-shorty-hpipe-9904v6.html

Hi, roughly what kind of hp/torque can I get from bbk headers, magnaflow street catbacks and flowmaster catted h-pipes ? Standard is 260/302. Thanks, Frank

    frank

    • Power gains will be different for each setup, for example; if you have BBK Ceramic Tuned Length Shorty Headers (96-04 GT) item #56101 (www.americanmuscle.com/bbk-shortyheaders-9604gt-ceramic.html) with Magnaflow Street Catbacks and Flowmaster Catted H-Pipes you can gain around 15HP. If you have BBK Ceramic Long Tube Headers - Manual (96-04 GT) item #56010 (www.americanmuscle.com/bbk-fulllength-ceramicheaders-99-04.html) with a tune you could see 25-30HP.

Will this system fit my 99 SVT Cobra Mustang?

    KJ

    • The Magnaflow Street Cat-Back Exhaust will only work with the 1999 to 2004 Mustang GT and Mach 1. For your 1999 Mustang SVT Cobra you will want to purchase Magnaflow Cat-Back Exhaust Item #48011 (http://www.americanmuscle.com/ma.html).

Magnaflow catback exhaust installation? The actual color of my 2004 GT is Merlot Clearcoat, but that option was not listed. My question is: do you need any type of heat shield between the mufflers and the floor pans to keep the inside floors from becoming too hot? The original factory mufflers had heat shields attached to the top of them.

    wildman650

    • I have never had any problem with heat with any after market exhaust, never needed a heat shield

      Deep Tone

System is a little deeper than stock at idle, but gets louder when you get on the throttle. Slight drone from 1,700 - 2,100 rpms but quickly goes away. Great construction quality.

      Magnaflow catback for the win!!!

I was tired of the flowmaster drone, with 410s on the interstate the interior resonance was horrible. With this catback I no longer have that annoying drone and it still sounds killer!!! Throttle response is better and you can definitely feel the difference with these straight through mufflers!!! I recommend this to anyone looking to get rid of that dredged flowmaster drone, and make a little more power also!!

      Perfect sound.

Sounds great, fits perfectly. Only issue I ran into where the clamps, for whatever reason they didn't hold, so I purchased some wider ones from advance auto and that took care of the constant re tightening. Will buy these for my next project. Not obnoxiously loud during cruising, but at wot... The sound will wake up the dead! Sound is deep, not tinny.

      Awesome sound and quality

I bought the magnaflows to replace my old flowmasters. Installation was a breeze! No more drone! Quiet when at idle but when you get on it, it sounds great!

      Magnaflow Catback Long Term Performance

No rust or discoloration anywhere on the entire system after 8 years of use so you know this system will last. I like the etched tips that I can only get from Magnaflow. They replaced one of mine that got damaged as long I as provided proof of purchase so they don’t just sell them to anyone. Also you can swivel the hanger to center the tip before final install so it looks right. Get compliments, not complaints, from the neighbors using it with FFRP shorty headers and Bassani x-pipe. No drone and really quiet in the car above 2500 rpm on the highway which makes this system a keeper.

Magnaflow Cat Back on 03 GT

Purchased a car with single chamber flowmasters. The drone from the flows almost rattled the car apart. The Magnaflow has a nice quiet rumble until you open it up then has a nice note.

      I Love These Pipes

My Stang was recently in an accident and the rear pipes were bent enough that replacing them were necessary. They were a custom built job that the previous owner had a local shop do, and it regularly got complements. These pipes are a whole different breed, and I like them more! They aren't as overwhelmingly loud at sustained speeds (1000 - 2750 RPM) so your drive is comfortable but still catches attention. Once you break over 3000 RPM though the raspy growl of these pipes let everyone around you know that your pony is just starting to show them what it's all about! If your Mustang is a daily driver, but you want the performance and sounds of a strong exhaust system, these are for you.

Quality Materials - Poor fit w/aftermarket sway bar

Although the quality of the materials in the kit are exceptional, there is not enough clearance if you have an aftermarket rear swaybar and lowering springs (Eibach Pro in my case). Even after making all the adjustments possible, going over any small or larger bump at over 5 MPH will result in the rear swaybar hitting the exhaust tubing. This effect is made worse with more weight in the car i.e. full tank of gas. It looks like I will have to have custom bent tubing made to properlty fix the issue meaning I wasted a bunch of money and should have just purchased the tips and mufflers instead of the full kit. Good horsepower increase - you will feel the difference.

      A fine choice

When purchasing this exhaust I was debating between this model and the magnapack model. After reading enough forums I decided to go with the regular magnafow model. With the exhaust installed I now know I made the right choice, the magnapacks would've been too loud, especially later on when I change out the headers and the cat. Great authentic muscle sound, noticed a slight performance boost in conjunction with other mods (CAI, throttle body).

      Great for increase in performance

This is an ideal exhaust for noted increase in performance without excessive noise. A very appropriate exhaust note. The system looks look and performs as advertised. Very pleased.

      Same great sound, no drone

I had the magnapacks and for me with a daily driver the drone was just to much so i swapped to this catback kit and the problem was solved. It kept the same great magnaflow sound when i stepped on it, but there was no drone at cruising speed.

      Great sound and quality!

I was running the flowmasters and got tired of the 2100 RPM drone. I switched over to this catback for that reason and I plan to build a cat system with the magnaflow offroad x-pipe at a later date. Very quiet at idle and a very awesome, but subtle rumble driving at normal speeds. When you unleash the beast, it roars. I did not notice any improvement in performance other than the sound and did not expect any. Just great sound.

      Sounds awesome on my mach

If your looking to get a perfect throaty sound that's not gonna wake up your whole neighborhood, then this is definitely what your looking for. Huge pain in the butt to get situated under the car on the hangers but it's doable. It took me about 4 hrs by myself with only 2 jack stands and the jack that came in my car. PLUS your basic deep well socket set. I love the sound design of mine. Gonna add a MAC prochamber to it soon.

      Wake the dead !!!

Out of my whole system... bbk shorty tuned headers, magnaflow tru x x pipe and the magnaflow catback system the catback is by far my favorite section I purchased. It's amazing quality first off. " you get what you pay for " plain and simple folks. the polished surface on the muflers and tips look amazing. I love the shape and straight lip of the tips as well. They dont curl over the lip like some companies. It's a very nice engraved Magnaflow symbol. It offers a great sound. when driving normal it sounds great and isint to lound but when you get on it boy does she open up and the sound is to die for !! A+++

      Very happy with my Magnaflow

After listining to YouTube videos of the exhaust I wasn't quite sure if it would live up to my Dynomax Ultarflow and ORX on my 5.0. As I thought that was one of the best sounding exhaust out their. I was kind of sure the fit and finish would be better. And I was not disapointed at all. I have to say I totally love the exhaust not of this system. It excedid my expeciations. I was planing on getting a ORX to go with this but am going to get a H pipe instead as I don't want to change the exhaust note at all. I actually got this with AM doing a pricematch from someone else. But after having the product I would not be hesitant to pay full price.

      Awesome exhaust!!

First off, this exhaust sounds great. I put it on my 2000 v6 5 speed to get some sound out of the car. I wanted the v8 sound and get more horsepower. Well this exhaust does it. I paired this with the pypes o/r x and it is loud!! At idle it has a nice rumble and sounds awesome up to about 3800rpm. But after 3800 it starts to get pretty high pitched. Not quite ricer, but not american muscle, granted i had this on my v6 mustang. The o/r x makes it a little raspy but not too bad. With the o/r x and this exhaust i definitely felt more power through all rpm's. You will get compliments everywhere you go with this exhaust. I had a buddy that said this catback sounds better than his 2006 GTO with the LS2 motor and guess what,...it sounds way sicker!! I would definitely recommend this catback

Had to get it installed at a muffler shop as I don't have a flat driveway or room in the garage. Added the PaceSetter V6 Dual Exhaust Adapter Kit in front of this on my 2004 V6. Works great, more power and better mileage.
