McLeod's Street Extreme clutch is going to be a great option for any '11 through '14 GT owner out there that might be in need of a new clutch, or that's going to be after one that will be able to accommodate upwards of 700 horsepower and torque. So my '11 through '14 GT owners out there that are concerned about their stock equipment not being able to take hard launches and aggressive shifts, be it on or off the tracks, need not be concerned. As this is going to be a very highly streetable unit, despite having a tough ceramic construction, as well as being able to accommodate high heat temps. It's going to warrant a full three out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter here, and easily a four-hour job. So McLeod's Street Extreme is going to be able to handle upwards of 700 horsepower. That in part will be due to the use of their dual-face ceramic discs, and that's going to be able to accommodate anything from a mild bolt-on, all the way up through a forced induction car. With streetcars or a factory-style clutch, manufacturers tend to go with an organic compound based on the fact that it's going to be streetable, as well as cost-effective for them, while a dual-friction or an iron-style clutch is going to be geared towards a very high-horsepower car. Ceramic discs like we'll see with this option will be in the middle of the road, but towards the top of the spectrum in terms of what they can handle and accommodate power-wise. Ceramic materials are nothing new within the realm of performance clutches and the right deal for a couple reasons. Mainly, the fact that they're going to be able to resist high heat exposure, as well as having a long lifespan, which will make them ideal for track use. Now, while it's optimal for track abuse, this SFI-certified unit is still going to be very streetable. It's going to provide that much more of an aggressive grab, smoother engagement. It's going to cut down on gear box shock, which in my opinion is going to give this a great balance of performance. Now, I'm sure, here guys, this is going to be one of the most race-ready options out there. It's going to be able to handle a ton of power and abuse on the track, have a great lifespan, but more importantly, be comfortable to drive and streetable in comparison to some of the more extreme [drag] options. In terms of the pricing here, expect to be spending $500 to get into the Extreme. It's really a small price to pay to have a unit that's going to be able to take consistent track abuse, withstand high heat temperatures, but most importantly, not to be sacrificing that comfort and drivability on the streets. From the streets to the shop, let's take a quick look at the installation, where you're going to be looking at an involved three out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter here, and easily a four-hour job. Now, looking ahead here, this is something that will require the entire toolbox. If you've never tackled a clutch before, I might try to get a second set of hands, just to be on the safe side. Now, at a glance here, you're going to need to drop that trans. We're talking unbolting your exhaust, dropping the drive shaft, and then cracking open that bellhousing. Once it's wide open, getting your new McLeod in place is going to be the easier portion of the install. They're going to have a very specific set of install info to help you get it back in and buttoned up.
