    Review & Install Video

McLeod's Street Extreme clutch is going to be a great option for any '11 through '14 GT owner out there that might be in need of a new clutch, or that's going to be after one that will be able to accommodate upwards of 700 horsepower and torque. So my '11 through '14 GT owners out there that are concerned about their stock equipment not being able to take hard launches and aggressive shifts, be it on or off the tracks, need not be concerned. As this is going to be a very highly streetable unit, despite having a tough ceramic construction, as well as being able to accommodate high heat temps. It's going to warrant a full three out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter here, and easily a four-hour job. So McLeod's Street Extreme is going to be able to handle upwards of 700 horsepower. That in part will be due to the use of their dual-face ceramic discs, and that's going to be able to accommodate anything from a mild bolt-on, all the way up through a forced induction car. With streetcars or a factory-style clutch, manufacturers tend to go with an organic compound based on the fact that it's going to be streetable, as well as cost-effective for them, while a dual-friction or an iron-style clutch is going to be geared towards a very high-horsepower car. Ceramic discs like we'll see with this option will be in the middle of the road, but towards the top of the spectrum in terms of what they can handle and accommodate power-wise. Ceramic materials are nothing new within the realm of performance clutches and the right deal for a couple reasons. Mainly, the fact that they're going to be able to resist high heat exposure, as well as having a long lifespan, which will make them ideal for track use. Now, while it's optimal for track abuse, this SFI-certified unit is still going to be very streetable. It's going to provide that much more of an aggressive grab, smoother engagement. It's going to cut down on gear box shock, which in my opinion is going to give this a great balance of performance. Now, I'm sure, here guys, this is going to be one of the most race-ready options out there. It's going to be able to handle a ton of power and abuse on the track, have a great lifespan, but more importantly, be comfortable to drive and streetable in comparison to some of the more extreme [drag] options. In terms of the pricing here, expect to be spending $500 to get into the Extreme. It's really a small price to pay to have a unit that's going to be able to take consistent track abuse, withstand high heat temperatures, but most importantly, not to be sacrificing that comfort and drivability on the streets. From the streets to the shop, let's take a quick look at the installation, where you're going to be looking at an involved three out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter here, and easily a four-hour job. Now, looking ahead here, this is something that will require the entire toolbox. If you've never tackled a clutch before, I might try to get a second set of hands, just to be on the safe side. Now, at a glance here, you're going to need to drop that trans. We're talking unbolting your exhaust, dropping the drive shaft, and then cracking open that bellhousing. Once it's wide open, getting your new McLeod in place is going to be the easier portion of the install. They're going to have a very specific set of install info to help you get it back in and buttoned up. That's my overview of McLeod's Street Extreme clutch, fitting your 2011 through 2014 Mustang GT, which can be found right here at americanmuscle.com.

For the Track or Street. Head from the street to the track with the McLeod Street Extreme Clutch Kit. This Street Extreme Clutch Kit is designed to provide the reliability you require in a street/track clutch as you rev your 700 horsepower and 700 ft./lbs. torque engine. Finally get the holding power you've been looking for and the durability for both street driving, and a bit of track racing.

Ceramic Disc. Featuring a dual-faced ceramic friction disc; this McLeod Street Extreme Clutch provides smooth engagement and awesome holding power making it the perfect performance upgrade for street and track use.

Kit Includes. The McLeod Street Extreme Clutch all-in-one kit has everything you need for the job at hand; it contains a high clamp load pressure plate diaphragm, a dual faced organic disc and a 1" x 23 spline alignment tool.

SFI Certified. If you're using this McLeod Street Extreme Clutch in high performance or racing applications, SFI Certification is critical so you can run your Pony at the track or strip. And it's great for peace of mind even in a daily driver.

Recommended Upgrade. It's recommended that you add an SR Performance Braided Stainless Steel Hydraulic Clutch Line during your new clutch install. Stock plastic clutch lines can fail during aggressive driving. Stainless steel clutch lines help prevent gear lockout and provide superior clutch pedal feel, even under the toughest conditions. See options above.

Professional Installation Recommended. The installation is intricate, so mechanical experience is highly recommended; an aftermarket flywheel may also be required for a proper fitment. Follow the included McLeod instructions for best results.

Application. The McLeod Street Extreme Clutch Kit fits 2011-2014 GT Mustangs with a maximum 700 crank hp/torque, moderate engine modifications and street tires; it is designed for use with a MT-82 manual 23-spline transmission.

      Worse clutch I’ve ever bought

Bought this clutch to replace a worn out spec clutch. Had nothing but issues with this clutch wouldn’t let me go into reverse to much at first figured I’d wait for the break in period. Just continued to get worse from there. Contacted McLeod and AM and both were unhelpful McLeod tried blaming hydraulic system okay fine replace all of it. Same issues. I’m out 500 bucks and AM offered me a 62 dollar discount on a new one. There’s plenty of other suppliers to buy clutches from. I know of 3 people personally who have had nothing but issues from this exact clutch. Trust me save your time and money and either buy the RST McLeod or goto spec or ram. This is a garbage clutch.

      Grippy

Install was pretty easy, had to look up torque specs as they were not with the instructions. Break in miles were smooth, no issues. Soon after break in period, she likes to squeal a little bit during gear changes. She does not like to be ridden, so pulling off from a stop is adventurous, this clutch wants to grab and go. If you are looking for mainly a street clutch I would look elsewhere, if you track your car, this thing is awesome. Pedal feel is good, and this clutch holds 570 ft lbs of torque with no problem.

Simple install, not for the novice...

Clutch works great, very happy with pedal feel and grip of the clutch. Clutch install went easier than anticipated, but should not be done by a novice.

Works great compared to stock clutch.

Having so many problems with the stock clutch, I decided to take the plunge and buy a decent clutch for my GT. The clutch was an easy install, but not for the novice. The flywheel has to be removed to change the location pins for the pressure plate. The disk works well immediately and I noticed a significant difference in driveability. Also the high rev lockout is totally gone!! McLeod has been around for a long time and they have very reliable products.

      Beast

First off you DO NOT NEED the McLeod flywheel to install this clutch. McLeod includes the pins to install into your factory flywheel for use of their clutch. Resurface your factory flywheel, install the supplied pins, save yourself some money. The Good. The extreme bites very hard, and wants to go. Dump the clutch and it stays with you all the way. Also very quite while operating, it chatters once in awhile but not bad or often. The Bad. If your looking for street friendly clutch? This isn't your best option. Look into the Street Pro if you want better bite and street manners. Pulling out of a parking lot, or slow off from a stop light is not it's strong suite. The break-in period it's very temperamental especially if you've never had a dual face ceramic clutch before, so be ready for a learning curve afterwards. Clutch effort increased but it's not as bad as people make it out to be unless you got weak legs. Overall it give it 4 stars just due to its street manners for daily driving, but it performs great otherwise.

      Great clutch

My calf will have to get used to this, the pedal feel changes drastically. I paired this with a mix of other clutch parts it feels really new and solid. If you’re installing it yourself remember to get a vacuum pump and a rubber stopper that’s the only way to bleed this thing.

      Daily drivablity

This is a really nice clutch that performs extremely well under extreme conditions. I didn't really understand what they meant when they said you would sacrifice some daily drivability after installing, but I soon found out. Not at all a negative, but definitely something to note, this clutch is made for track type driving and not pulling out of your local Walmart parking lot. You will notice a little bit of puck slippage when trying to take off slowly, but none at all when kicking the clutch at 7,000 rpm. In the beginning it scared me thinking the clutch was slipping, in a way, I guess it was, but after 2500 miles or so most of that has gone away, but it is still noticeably jumpier than the stock Boss 302 clutch. I debated on dropping the grip/ bite score from 5 to 4 stars, but from a daily drivability standpoint I had to. Just understand that a puck style clutch is made for performance and this is still a significantly better option that an ceramic full disc from a performance perspective and much better drivability than you will get out of a dual disc. Overall I am very happy with my decision and it works very well for my application.

      Great purchase!

Just installed my McLeod Street Extreme clutch, along with a Mcleod lightened steel flywheel and Throwout bearing in my 2013 Mustang GT! Couldn't be happier! In conjunction with my new MGW shifter it's a whole lot better than the stock application! I highly recommend the mods!

Bought this with the mcleod TOB and aluminum Light weight Flywheel, my car has 43k miles and was having lockout problmes from 1st to second and 2nd to 3rd. after install which everything fit very nicely in my 13 GT, its another beast very responsive, it wants to GO, clutch feels strong but not bad for daily 0 lockouts at 7200rpms. very happy with it.

      Didn't fit

A shop tried putting this on my 2011 GT, no luck. Called McLeod, they weren't helpful what so ever. The shop said the spacing was wrong because it looked like the parts in the box weren't what was suppose to be in there (the pressure plate was wrong we think). The clutch wouldn't disengage. After McLeod didn't want to help AT ALL, we put in a stock clutch and it worked fine. Definitely not going with McLeod again. AmericanMuscle was helpful in getting it returned quickly with no hassles. Thanks AM.

      Great clutch.

My old clutch was going out already. It felt fine during normal driving but would not hold the power down after hard shifting. Overall it is a great clutch. A bit rough during break in period but after that feels almost like stock. Grabs hard and easy during quick shifts. My only complaint was that at the time i purchased the clutch the specs said it included a throwout bearing which it didn't and had to make a second order. Overall. This clutch is perfect for the normal drive and the daily hard shifts

      McLeod Street Extreme

This clutch feels great, but word of caution.. you NEED the McLeod flywheel to go with it. American Muscle does not list it as a requirement, but it will not bolt up to a 2012 stock flywheel. Good thing Jegs was able to look it up properly and had it in stock.

Felt a significant difference after breaking it in, I actually drove the whole 500 mi. before testing it out. I have not been on the track yet with the new clutch but it works well on the street for daily driving. Good grip and bite especially my third gear. Well worth it!

      She grabs

My stock clutch couldn't handle the abuse and power I was putting down running it often at the drag strip. I looked into different clutches and this clutch offered the best performance for the best price. It doesn't take away any drivability and feels like the stock clutch as far as engaging goes. I definitely recommend this for an upgrade
