    Review & Install Video

Hey everybody, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is my review of McLeod RST Twin Disc Clutch, available in sizes for your '01 to 2014 Mustang GT and Boss, in addition to your '03 to '04 Cobra and Mach 1. In the world of aftermarket clutches there is obviously a ton to choose from and I think you'll find McLeod to be one of the more premium options in the world of clutches. Now they do offer anything from your bone-stock daily driver or light bolt-on car, all the way down to your thousand-horsepower strip monster. Now what we're looking at today is one of the big boys, the RST which is a twin disc clutch, and believe it or not, it not even the burliest clutch they do offer. They also offer an RXT, which is capable of holding upwards of a thousand wheel-horsepower. So with all that said the RST is definitely going to be a good option for those of you guys out there who are looking to make or already making big power through either forced induction or nitrous for your street-strip car or your dedicated drag car. Not so much for the cars out there with light bolt-ons or even stock. This thing would definitely be overkill. Now a twin disc clutch, for the most part, is a thing of beauty, because it's going to offer unparalleled holding capabilities with a pedal feel or effort that's not going to kill your leg in the process. Now the only downside to a twin disc clutch is usually the price, as they are not often cheap. The one thing I do like that McLeod has done to help keep some of the costs down here, at least with the pre-MT82 RST, is allow it to be used with any stock or aftermarket flywheel as long as the bolt patterns match up. Now both the Ram and Exedy twin discs here on AM, they do include flywheels, which is only going to increase the price. Now for the MT82 crowd, both the '11 and '14 GT and Boss owners out there, McLeod strongly recommends you use their RST with the McLeod flywheel for the best fitment, of course, here. Well that is going to increase the price, but as always, you have to pay to play. Getting into some of the specifics here with the RST we'll notice dual organic material friction plates here separated by the floater plate, the signature red McLeod pressure plate, and last but not least, the adapter ring. Now it's not uncommon to experience a little bit of noise at idle with a twin disc clutch here, and that will be the case with the RST. At least some of our customers have pointed that out, so be sure to check out those reviews if you haven't done so already. Installing a new clutch can be a little tricky if you've never done it before and especially if you don't have access to a lift, so for that reason alone I'm going call this one three out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. I might knock that back to a two out of three wrenches if you do have access to a lift because obviously it's going to make life a whole lot easier. Figure the trans does have to get dropped obviously for this one, so we'll call it four hours or less from start to finish. And also another biggie here, make sure you follow McLeod's braking procedure for the clutch to get the most life and performance out of the clutch itself. So if you're looking for a proven clutch for high horsepower applications that's going to maintain great pedal feel and drive-ability, you have to consider the RST from McLeod, and you can find yours right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Street Or Strip. The McLeod RST Twin Disc Clutch is perfect for aggressive street driving and occasional drag strip use. Able to hold up to 800hp the RST Twin Disc Clutch kit is ideal for extreme horsepower Mustangs that need a good reliable street clutch.

Twin Organic Discs. Featuring organic faced twin sprung hub friction discs; this RST Clutch will provide smooth engagement with a soft pedal effort and excellent release characteristics, making this a very driver friendly clutch suitable for all street performance enthusiasts.

Application. This McLeod RST Twin Disc Clutch Kit is designed for use on the 2011-2014 GT and Boss 302 Mustangs equipped with a MT-82 manual 23-spline transmission.

Technical Note. The McLeod Twin Disc Clutch should be combined with a matching McLeod Flywheel for best performance and proper installation.

    Specifications:
    • Fits: 2011-2014 GT and BOSS with a MT-82 transmission
    • Disc Dimensions: 11" X 23T X 1"
    • Horse Power Rating: Up to 800

I have a shelby 2010 GT500 Will this fit my car?

    RiyadhA

    • Unfortunately, this will not fit a 2010 Gt500. The input shaft in a TR-6060 is a 26 spline which came in the 2010 GT500. This clutch will only fit a transmission with a 23 metric spline input shaft.

How is the drivability with this clutch? Is it a leg killer in cross town or rush hour driving? Asking for a friend ;)

    jakqwe1

    • This clutch will not be as soft as the stock clutch and will you have to put some force into it. However this clutch would not be a full leg killer!

Hi, There is a comment: "Also when driving at low rpm's 1200-1800 there is a loud rattle from the clutch. I'm told this is a normal condition for a twin disc clutch." Is this true? Does the clutch normally rattle at lower rpms? Thanks

    • I had a RST in my o7 Shelby GT , and it was outstanding , I do not recall any noise ,,, if so it was not noticeable to me ,,,,,,,,,I tracked the car at Willow Springs and Laguna Seca and the clutch was excellent

RST Clutch, don't forget to do a crank relearn!

I had my shop install the clutch, flywheel and stainless steel clutch line. 150 miles of stop and go so far and the clutch feels great! DONT FORGET TO DO A CRANKSHAFT RELEARN AFTER INSTALL WITH YOUR SCT4 OR ABOVE! If you don't do that your engine will through misfire codes! The crank needs to relearn the new clutch and flywheel.

      Terrible clutch for the money

Let me start this by saying clutch jobs aren’t my first rodeo... the twin disc I put in with a friend who’s had a mechanic shop for years. On a lift all done professionally. I did a double break in on the clutch and it never saw the track or a dyno... the clutch lasted 8k miles so I threw the stock clutch back in and have had no issues for over 45k The customer service at McLeod is also awful, they’ll tell you anything to sell you on a rebuild.. that doesn’t come with warranty. The owner Bryan told me he has people send in there clutches for rebuilds every season... if that doesn’t tell you something I don’t know what does. He also told me these clutches shouldn’t see the track or the dyno! It’s labeled as a street/STRIP clutch when I asked Bryan that he had no response for me.. worst top dollar clutch I’ve EVER dealt with

      Couldn’t be happier

After reading all the reviews and complaints about the clatter and noises that come from this clutch I was hesitant to purchase it. After looking at the prices of other brands i decided a little noise would be ok. I have to say, after having this thing installed I haven’t heard he first bit of unwanted noise or clatter. Smooth shifts, light clutch pedal feel and this thing can hold easily the 700 ponies my 2014 roushcharged beast unleashes and begs for more. Great buy !!!

      Perfect clutch !!!

This clutch is great on my daily driven Roush charged coyote. The pedal feels like stock and I can shift without having to press all the way down. This clutch solved my high rpm shifting issue with the clutch pedal sticking to the floor.

      Great upgrade, performs well

Install was as straight forward as the instructions made it out to be. Bites hard and doesn't slip at all in my 800 rwhp VMP car. It does chatter in lower RPMs but I knew that was going to happen and it's not that bad. Light pedal feel. It does have a higher engagement point than stock, but it's a little harder to slip. Seems more to be a dump off the line type clutch, but it has the holding power for it. Only complaint is sometimes it doesn't like to let you in or out of certain gears, namely 5th and reverse for me. And yes I replaced the slave cylinder, with McLeod's version.

      Excellent Clutch!

Night and day compared to the stock clutch. Response is immediate and at high RPMs catches very easy now. Even on downshift its a breeze now. Recommend this for anyone looking to install force induction below HP threshold.

      True story

Well, after reading all the glowing reviews for this clutch I decided to go for it. let me preface this by saying that I've done this professionally for 40 years , with that said here's my review of this clutch. The install was straightforward with no issues, those came immediately after the install. This clutch is vague on the take up and does not like to be slipped either, chattering was by far the most serious issue though. After following the break in procedure things were no better, so much so that I'd had enough and took this shoddy product back out. So after spending a little over 1000 bucks at the American muscle show on aug. 2016 I was at a crossroads. Thankfully I have a very understanding wife. My car is a 2014 GT making 661 rwhp I do not race the car so it had to have stock type characteristics. The problem with this clutch is the non sprung hubs in the discs I did not think that was going to as big a problem as it turned out to be. my solution to the problem turned out to be a mantic clutch ( sorry AM) you should look into selling these. I'm not happy that I had to spend a total of 2500 on clutches but hey, live and learn. I'll be putting it Mcloed on ebay for whatever I can get for it .

      Very Happy

I am very pleased with this clutch! I bought a s/c kit for my car and needed something to hold the increase in power. This clutch has done just that. Very little noise from the twin disk set-up, lighter than stock pedal pressure, and easily drivable in town. Mated this up with their lightened steel flywheel. Works great! Was looking into other brands and saw several good reviews on this one from other sites and on other brands of cars as well. The removal and install of the trans was the longest process. But well worth my time!

WHERE HAD YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE!

Took me a while to pull the trigger on this clutch due to the amount of reviews with supposeably issues, noise and what not due to its twin disc nature on youtube. When I finally did purchase it, I rented a lift and took me approx. 8 hours with little help from shop hand here and there while pulling down the transmission and flywheel to finish the install. First impressions out the box: Beautiful, wish I didn't have to cover it. Its ok though, I purchased a Mcloud decal to show loud and proud love for such a good manufactured product. Furthermore pulling my car off the lift doing a test drive taught my clutch was broken, this thing is soft compared to Spec stage 2. And when it hooks you feel it grip, 7k-8k shifts will whiplash you and put you deep in your seat while you hold on for life and keep on rowing through the gears effortlessly. It shifts so smooth, engagement is a bit tricky but once you find the right spot your golden and will crack a smile everytime you power shift or drive spirited. I have 0 noise, no clacking while in neutral so anybody with clutch issues that has had this product installed might want to go over the install one more time. Also might want to throw in the high RPM disc while you have the flywheel off, its a cheap mod but I feel like it helps the car rev smoother on its way to the very top of the RPMs. My wallet won't pay for another clutch that is not mcloud.

      Excellent Clutch

Installed this in a GT with some bolt on mods and tune, usually putting a 800 HP clutch in a car that doesn't make that much power would be a bad decision, but with the twin disc setup you get strong holding power with less pedal resistance. The engage point ended up being a bit different, further off the floor, but McLeod delivers a strong product that's not too punishing to drive daily.

American Muscle gets 5 stars, McLeod, not so much.

First off, I dislike reviews that have nothing to do with the product itself, but I felt compelled to leave these comments due to the situation McLeod put me in. I spent close to $1200 for clutch and flywheel, and the thing shows up with a missing part. The bottom disk wasn't in the box! American Muscle shipped out a new clutch disk OVERNIGHT. Thank you! McLeod on the other hand, well, they sent one out with 3 day shipping. I think that's poor customer service. My car was up on the lift, but luckily I didn't have the trans out yet. I promise to do a real review after I break it in and beat on the new setup.
