    Hey everybody, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is my review of McLeod RST Twin Disc Clutch, available in sizes for your '01 to 2014 Mustang GT and Boss, in addition to your '03 to '04 Cobra and Mach 1. In the world of aftermarket clutches there is obviously a ton to choose from and I think you'll find McLeod to be one of the more premium options in the world of clutches. Now they do offer anything from your bone-stock daily driver or light bolt-on car, all the way down to your thousand-horsepower strip monster.Now what we're looking at today is one of the big boys, the RST which is a twin disc clutch, and believe it or not, it not even the burliest clutch they do offer. They also offer an RXT, which is capable of holding upwards of a thousand wheel-horsepower. So with all that said the RST is definitely going to be a good option for those of you guys out there who are looking to make or already making big power through either forced induction or nitrous for your street-strip car or your dedicated drag car. Not so much for the cars out there with light bolt-ons or even stock. This thing would definitely be overkill.Now a twin disc clutch, for the most part, is a thing of beauty, because it's going to offer unparalleled holding capabilities with a pedal feel or effort that's not going to kill your leg in the process. Now the only downside to a twin disc clutch is usually the price, as they are not often cheap. The one thing I do like that McLeod has done to help keep some of the costs down here, at least with the pre-MT82 RST, is allow it to be used with any stock or aftermarket flywheel as long as the bolt patterns match up. Now both the Ram and Exedy twin discs here on AM, they do include flywheels, which is only going to increase the price. Now for the MT82 crowd, both the '11 and '14 GT and Boss owners out there, McLeod strongly recommends you use their RST with the McLeod flywheel for the best fitment, of course, here. Well that is going to increase the price, but as always, you have to pay to play.Getting into some of the specifics here with the RST we'll notice dual organic material friction plates here separated by the floater plate, the signature red McLeod pressure plate, and last but not least, the adapter ring. Now it's not uncommon to experience a little bit of noise at idle with a twin disc clutch here, and that will be the case with the RST. At least some of our customers have pointed that out, so be sure to check out those reviews if you haven't done so already.Installing a new clutch can be a little tricky if you've never done it before and especially if you don't have access to a lift, so for that reason alone I'm going call this one three out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. I might knock that back to a two out of three wrenches if you do have access to a lift because obviously it's going to make life a whole lot easier. Figure the trans does have to get dropped obviously for this one, so we'll call it four hours or less from start to finish. And also another biggie here, make sure you follow McLeod's braking procedure for the clutch to get the most life and performance out of the clutch itself. So if you're looking for a proven clutch for high horsepower applications that's going to maintain great pedal feel and drive-ability, you have to consider the RST from McLeod, and you can find yours right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

        Hi, There is a comment: "Also when driving at low rpm's 1200-1800 there is a loud rattle from the clutch. I'm told this is a normal condition for a twin disc clutch." Is this true? Does the clutch normally rattle at lower rpms? Thanks

        • I had a RST in my o7 Shelby GT , and it was outstanding , I do not recall any noise ,,, if so it was not noticeable to me ,,,,,,,,,I tracked the car at Willow Springs and Laguna Seca and the clutch was excellent

        Has this clutch been installed and driven on? Does it include all pieces i.e.- the pressure plate, both discs. floater plate and adapter ring? I don't need the tool. Thanks.

        Can this clutch use the stock through out bearing or would we need to purchase a MCLeod?

        • While this clutch is capable of using the stock throwout bearing, we recommend upgrading if your car is making enough power to require this clutch, as the stock throwout bearing is most likely not up to the task.

            Awesome clutch

            Installed the rst and Mgw X-Spec shifter and its is definitely tough getting used to it but I can tell it is going to be a monster after the shifter and clutch break in! Harder to pull away at 1st gear but just takes some getting used to. Clutch is awesome and peddal feel is super light!

            Jury still out

            Have not made it the 500 miles for break in yet so hopefully will get better. Shudder/chatter in reverse on a hill or on incline in 1st gear is tough to pull away without making entire car shake. Shifts are fine but have not shifted at high rpms as still in break in. Installed new throwout bearing along with Mcleod flywheel when doing clutch. High hopes will be better after time. Other reviews I have read mostly say it does. 2011 GT with Roush Stage 3 supercharger. Ratings kind of pointless at this stage but had to select something or review would not post

            5 2012 GT - Tyler Installation Time: Afternoon

            Great!

            Everything works great, bite is awesome. Only problem is with the dowels on the Stock flywheel, they did not line up with the clutch. After removing the dowels I rotated the clutch and found the spot that fits. I'm about 800 miles in with it, does make a shuddering sound when slowly accelerating, but not bad. I am now shifting at 7,600rpm with absolutely no problem.

            I purchased this clutch in hopes it would fix a high rpm clutch sticking/lockout issue. No more issues. This clutch bites hard. It’s like having a new car. Shifting is Butter smooth and rev matching is so much easier. There is noticeable clutch chatter between 1200-1800 rpm but it doesn’t bother me. Also the engagement point is now at the top of the pedal. This took a WHILE to get used to, but all is well now.

            RST Clutch, don't forget to do a crank relearn!

            I had my shop install the clutch, flywheel and stainless steel clutch line. 150 miles of stop and go so far and the clutch feels great! DONT FORGET TO DO A CRANKSHAFT RELEARN AFTER INSTALL WITH YOUR SCT4 OR ABOVE! If you don't do that your engine will through misfire codes! The crank needs to relearn the new clutch and flywheel.

            Terrible clutch for the money

            Let me start this by saying clutch jobs aren’t my first rodeo... the twin disc I put in with a friend who’s had a mechanic shop for years. On a lift all done professionally. I did a double break in on the clutch and it never saw the track or a dyno... the clutch lasted 8k miles so I threw the stock clutch back in and have had no issues for over 45k The customer service at McLeod is also awful, they’ll tell you anything to sell you on a rebuild.. that doesn’t come with warranty. The owner Bryan told me he has people send in there clutches for rebuilds every season... if that doesn’t tell you something I don’t know what does. He also told me these clutches shouldn’t see the track or the dyno! It’s labeled as a street/STRIP clutch when I asked Bryan that he had no response for me.. worst top dollar clutch I’ve EVER dealt with

            High rpm lock out solved!!

            So i was having high rpm lock out shifting at 7k especially after getting my cj intake and shifting at 8k so it was time to try out if the clutch would fix the problem and bam all my shifting problems are gone stock clutch line just upgraded to the the rst clutch and McLeod fly wheel aswell shifts amazing!! Id highly recommend it.

            Couldn’t be happier

            After reading all the reviews and complaints about the clatter and noises that come from this clutch I was hesitant to purchase it. After looking at the prices of other brands i decided a little noise would be ok. I have to say, after having this thing installed I haven’t heard he first bit of unwanted noise or clatter. Smooth shifts, light clutch pedal feel and this thing can hold easily the 700 ponies my 2014 roushcharged beast unleashes and begs for more. Great buy !!!

            This clutch is great on my daily driven Roush charged coyote. The pedal feels like stock and I can shift without having to press all the way down. This clutch solved my high rpm shifting issue with the clutch pedal sticking to the floor.

            Great upgrade, performs well

            Install was as straight forward as the instructions made it out to be. Bites hard and doesn't slip at all in my 800 rwhp VMP car. It does chatter in lower RPMs but I knew that was going to happen and it's not that bad. Light pedal feel. It does have a higher engagement point than stock, but it's a little harder to slip. Seems more to be a dump off the line type clutch, but it has the holding power for it. Only complaint is sometimes it doesn't like to let you in or out of certain gears, namely 5th and reverse for me. And yes I replaced the slave cylinder, with McLeod's version.
