Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

Hey, guys, Stephanie with americanmuscle.com here with an overview and an install of this Mishimoto Cut and Clamp Resonator Delete H-Pipe available for 2015 and up GT Mustangs. In this video we're gonna be talking about a few things including the sound of this H-Pipe, materials and construction, and the install. I'll talk more about this later, but the install for this one is going to be a two out of three wrenches since you do need to cut. The Mishimoto H-Pipe is gonna be something that you should check out if you're looking for a mid-pipe for your S550 GT. This is an H-pipe, so this is gonna be for someone that's looking for that deeper hardy sound. This is a budget-friendly, full 304 stainless steel H-pipe to replace a factory resonator. Swapping out the resonator mid-pipe for a traditional style mid-pipe like this H-pipe is a fast and easy way to make a big change on your Mustang's exhaust without having to purchase an entirely new exhaust system. We all know that the factory resonator style mid-pipe is a heavy piece of exhaust, with that muffle sound and robs some power from the S550. A cut and clamp H-pipe like this one is gonna be much more free flowing which is gonna open up sound and volume in the exhaust even without changing the factory axle back or any other components of the exhaust. An H-pipe like this isn't going to eliminate the factory cut, and you're still gonna be small and legal, and pass emissions, and get the change in sound that I've talked about. This is that 304 stainless steel that I mentioned earlier. So, you can't get any better material-wise. Stainless steel has some upsides and some advantages over other materials like aluminized tubing. It's not gonna rust or corrode, and it's gonna have a nice long life. This H-pipe is also going to come with sleeve style exhaust clamps, so it's ready for the install. As far as sound, an H-pipe typically delivers more of a deeper tone than a louder raspier note when you compare it to an X-pipe, and an X is going to give you more volume. If you're looking for more of that high-volume, raspy exhaust tone, then you should stick with an X-pipe instead. On a scale of one to five with five being the loudest, I'm going to rate this H-pipe with the stock axle back as a two. If you want this to be louder, you need to pick up an aftermarket axle back. Another thing to mention here is that a great side effect of replacing that resonator with an H-pipe is dropping a good amount of weight. The factory resonator adds some pounds to the S550. So, by replacing it with a simple H-pipe, it's gonna be dropping about 25 pounds which is just another little plus. As far as price goes, you can expect to spend between $200 and $300 for the Mishimoto H-pipe. Now, there are other H-pipes that are available, and other brands, other materials, and at other price points if you wanna shop around for something else, but this is one of the more budget-friendly options, and it's stainless steel. As for the install, you do have some flexibility here. Like the name suggests, there will be some cutting involved, but it's nothing too difficult. You take your time, it's gonna take about two hours to complete, maybe less, and I'm going to call this a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter but mainly just because the cutting that's involved. The H-pipe does come with those brand new clamps for the rear, and you reuse the factory front clamps, but you always have the option of clamping the front and welding in the rear of the pipe if you want, but that's up to you or your shop. A lot of people like welding in the rear better, but that's not something that you have to do. So wrapping things up here. This is a stainless steel resonator delete H-pipe that can work with either the factory axle back or an aftermarket one. It also keeps the factory cuts, and it's going to create some sound and volume from the GT. As always, you can check it out more online for yourself and for all things Mustangs keep it right here at americanmuscle.com.

Hi - I have an FRPP by Borla Touring (EC-type) system on my '16 Mustang GT which comes with a resonator. It's a bit quiet. Will the Mishimoto fit as a straight swap for the Borla resonator without additional modification?

CR

  • This will be a straight swap over the X-pipe that comes with the Ford Performance by Borla Touring cat-back exhaust.

When you say in the Q A no need for a tune but it would be best for best performance. Where would you get it tuned? At Ford dealers or? Also just another question do different H pipes put out different sound levels or and tones? Thanks Michael

MichaelS

  • ou can get your midpipe tuned through a dyno /tuning sho or with a handheld tuner such as the Bama X4. H pipes makes a different sound based on whether they have a pro chamber, or cats attached to them. Overall they all have a more lower tone.

will the Mishimoto work with stainless works headers

EjW

  • The Mishimoto Cut and Clamp Resonator Delete H Pipe will only work with vehicles equipped with stock headers, or aftermarket shorty headers, and would not work with long tube headers such as the Stainless Works headers.

    High quality from Mishimoto

Excellent material quality and welding. The sleeve clamps that come with the Hpipe are slightly less sturdy than the OEM ones that come with the car in front of the resonator but they are still good. Volume increase with the factory mufflers is not much but some, the real improvement is in tone. No cabin drone at all even with rear seat delete. The stock resonator is a straight through design and incorporates an H pipe. I did not know this until I cut it off and looked inside. The mishimoto H pipe is less restrictive and much lighter weight.

Best H/X Pipe for the S550!

Premium quality and finish, sturdy welded brace for stiffness, and beautifully welded. Replacing the factory resonator with this H-Pipe was the best decision and really woke up the already great sounding Roush AB. The Mishimoto H-Pipe not only pumped up the volume dramatically, but also eliminated a certain tinniness or mechanical sounding rasp that was still there with the factory resonator in place. Highly recommended.

    Loud

Very loud on cold starts with Roush axle back. But then mellows out and sounds good. If you jump on it it's loud!! Don't like sleeve style clamps. Gonna weld it in once weather clears up

How a GT should sound from the factory!

I just had this installed on my 2015 GT today. I still have the stock exhaust but wanted a bit more growl to it. I LOVE the tone of this H Pipe. It's still quiet at idle, but when you step on it you can definitely hear a muscle car tone coming from the 5.0. It "feels" like the car has a little more pull and breathes easier, but that could just be my imagination due to my excitement at the new tone. I had this professionally installed and it only cost $70. A simple upgrade to add a bit more excitement to my GT experience!

    Great sound

I decided on the Mishimoto H-pipe over the others due to its construction. Installation should be simple, I ran into a problem with my rear exhaust clamps which slowed me down, but that's not the pipes fault. Once I got the stock exhaust off, it was fairly straight forward, measure and cut, reinstall. The clamps included with the pipe are great. This H-Pipe brings the stock exhaust to life and didn't create any additional drone in the vehicle. I can't say enough about this pipe. Word of caution to owners with the Performance Package. I wasn't paying attention and forgot to unclamp the heat sensor on the bottom of the pumpkin, when my stock exhaust came down, it caught the heat sensor wire and snapped it in two, that costs me another $75 to replace the sensor wire, again my fault, had I disconnected the sensor, this would not have happened.

    2016 Ford Mustang gt

paired it with the roush axel backs and it sounds AMAZING! It sounds similar to the heartthrob one that people posted but can't really tell in the videos . It does have a nice deep tone to it. It's extremely loud when you step on the gas even if it's just a love tap. With that combo I gained 10mpg according to the gauge .

High quality and LOUD with Roush axle backs

Fit and finish of the 304 stainless was very good as was the welds. I paired this with the Roush axle backs and all I can say is.....this combo is LOUD!!!!! It does sound good though, especially outside of the car. If you don't want to drawl attention to your car, then don't add these to an axle back like the Roush.lol.

Perfect Solution for that classic car rumble

I originally purchased the KOOKS X Pipe Catback system for my 2015 Mustang GT Fastback, but it was just way to loud and caused some severe drone, it was worst drone so I don't recommend it. I ended up losing $1500 since I could not return or sell it. I decided to purchase and install the Mishimoto H Pipe paired with the Ford Racing Touring Axle back, and I have to say it is a PERFECT Match. The setup gives me exactly what I wanted, that nice clean non raspy classic car rumble and absolutely no drone while cruising or getting on the gas. I highly recommend the Mishimoto H Pipe matched with the right Axle back.

The review I wish was here while researching...

I had a Roush axle-back and Roush X-pipe on my 2015 GTPP, and just couldn't get past the "raspiness", almost trumpet sounding notes at higher rpms. I expected the "crazy loud", but not the box of marbles "high tech" tones I was hearing... Swapped the Roush X-pipe out with this H-pipe, and although it's is far from night and day difference, I definitely prefer the sound of the H-pipe. Fit, materials, and quality are all excellent, as it feels very robust/heavy duty. Had to cut about 1.5" off the rear pipe to make it fit, (since Roush uses a flanged end, and this one is straight fit with a coupler), but not a big deal with a sawzall and metal blade. I would describe the difference in sound as slightly less raspy, but it still screams when you get on it. A little more rumble, but not a huge difference, and overall slightly quieter, but still wakes the neighbours! Overall I'd guess it's about 5 quieter and less raspy than the x-pipe, which is just enough difference to make me glad I changed it out.

    Cheaply made bolts...

No instructions were provided. I like the sound it makes and can feel low end torque more. Good quality pipe. Had to cut twice without instructions. Need to 5ake old exhaust out to do the cutting. Need at least 2 people to do the job.

    Goldilocks would be proud

This pipe is just loud enough to let you know the car is there, but not so loud that it's annoying or calls the cops for you. That's why I think it's "just right". Also, please note that in track mode it's pretty raspy but in normal mode sounds good. I guess the raspy is the price you pay to really open it up. Install was pretty straightforward but I wouldn't do it without a lift.
