Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

Hey, guys, Stephanie with americanmuscle.com here with an overview and an install of this Mishimoto Cut and Clamp Resonator Delete H-Pipe available for 2015 and up GT Mustangs. In this video we're gonna be talking about a few things including the sound of this H-Pipe, materials and construction, and the install. I'll talk more about this later, but the install for this one is going to be a two out of three wrenches since you do need to cut. The Mishimoto H-Pipe is gonna be something that you should check out if you're looking for a mid-pipe for your S550 GT. This is an H-pipe, so this is gonna be for someone that's looking for that deeper hardy sound. This is a budget-friendly, full 304 stainless steel H-pipe to replace a factory resonator. Swapping out the resonator mid-pipe for a traditional style mid-pipe like this H-pipe is a fast and easy way to make a big change on your Mustang's exhaust without having to purchase an entirely new exhaust system. We all know that the factory resonator style mid-pipe is a heavy piece of exhaust, with that muffle sound and robs some power from the S550. A cut and clamp H-pipe like this one is gonna be much more free flowing which is gonna open up sound and volume in the exhaust even without changing the factory axle back or any other components of the exhaust. An H-pipe like this isn't going to eliminate the factory cut, and you're still gonna be small and legal, and pass emissions, and get the change in sound that I've talked about. This is that 304 stainless steel that I mentioned earlier. So, you can't get any better material-wise. Stainless steel has some upsides and some advantages over other materials like aluminized tubing. It's not gonna rust or corrode, and it's gonna have a nice long life. This H-pipe is also going to come with sleeve style exhaust clamps, so it's ready for the install. As far as sound, an H-pipe typically delivers more of a deeper tone than a louder raspier note when you compare it to an X-pipe, and an X is going to give you more volume. If you're looking for more of that high-volume, raspy exhaust tone, then you should stick with an X-pipe instead. On a scale of one to five with five being the loudest, I'm going to rate this H-pipe with the stock axle back as a two. If you want this to be louder, you need to pick up an aftermarket axle back. Another thing to mention here is that a great side effect of replacing that resonator with an H-pipe is dropping a good amount of weight. The factory resonator adds some pounds to the S550. So, by replacing it with a simple H-pipe, it's gonna be dropping about 25 pounds which is just another little plus. As far as price goes, you can expect to spend between $200 and $300 for the Mishimoto H-pipe. Now, there are other H-pipes that are available, and other brands, other materials, and at other price points if you wanna shop around for something else, but this is one of the more budget-friendly options, and it's stainless steel. As for the install, you do have some flexibility here. Like the name suggests, there will be some cutting involved, but it's nothing too difficult. You take your time, it's gonna take about two hours to complete, maybe less, and I'm going to call this a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter but mainly just because the cutting that's involved. The H-pipe does come with those brand new clamps for the rear, and you reuse the factory front clamps, but you always have the option of clamping the front and welding in the rear of the pipe if you want, but that's up to you or your shop. A lot of people like welding in the rear better, but that's not something that you have to do. So wrapping things up here. This is a stainless steel resonator delete H-pipe that can work with either the factory axle back or an aftermarket one. It also keeps the factory cuts, and it's going to create some sound and volume from the GT. As always, you can check it out more online for yourself and for all things Mustangs keep it right here at americanmuscle.com.

          Loved it

I paired this with Roush Axle back mufflers and the sound is just right. Loud enough so you can hear it coming, like it should be. Has very little drone and not too loud to be annoying when on the highway at around 75 mph. Crazy load cold starts! And it’s not as raspy as the x pipe. Would highly recommended.

          Sounds Great!

I should have done this sooner. The H Pipe enhances the sound of the stock exhaust on my GT. After listening to the sounds from an X pipe, I am glad I went with the H. I found a Pro install shop and it was installed in 35 minutes for $60!

I was astounded at the positive change in both exhaust tone and volume from this H-pipe! The best $252 $80 I've spent on my new '19 GT. I had it installed by a performance muffler shop in my city and it was ready in about an hour.

Great shipping from AM, Great product. I know its a bit more expensive than other h pipes but its fully SS and I know I'll never have a problem with it. I have this paired with the Borla axle back s-type, it gives it a great rumble, but has 0 drone.

Good quality product, was easy to install. We were fortunate to have a lift, would have been a lot harder if we had to install on ground. Fairly loud cold start and when accelerating. I do a lot of highway driving and exhaust is quiet at speed.

          Great H-Pipe

My previous setup was an x-pipe with Magnaflow Competition mufflers and the drone was absolutely INSANE. Even sitting still at idle you could just barely have a conversation with a passenger. At 1500-2000 rpm, forget about hearing anything other than drone. So, I heard h-pipes help with the drone, so I purchased this one. Install was easy. Pull off the exhaust, mark where the h-pipe will go, cut off the x-pipe, stick the h-pipe on, and put the rest of the exhaust back on (I used the clamps and haven't welded this setup yet). Took maybe 2 hours total. It sounds great! There is still a small amount of drone at around 1800 rpm or so, but it is MUCH less taxing than before. You can still easily have a conversation or hear music at peak drone which was not possible before. I have also pulled off the Magnaflows and cut up a stock exhaust to test that setup out using this h-pipe and the stock muffers. It still sounds great. Wakes up the exhaust and sounds way better than stock. If you don't want it loud or to drone, h-pipe stock mufflers is a great option.

          Great quality!

I was extremely happy with the quality and fit. The welds are incredible. The only issue I had was removing the heat shields that come on the 18s now. I wanted a h pipe that was stainless and would last, this was exactly what I was looking for. It gives my car a very nice tone that is not over bearing, but can be heard.

          Great H-Pipe, Finicky Clamps

The build quality and the materials of the H-Pipe where excellent. The car got a nice deep and louder rumble that I found a bit lacking with the stock active exhaust. The active exhaust still held the same features and remained quiet in Quite mode and became much louder in Track mode. So no problems with the pipe itself. The supplied clamps however, are another story. After I had this mid-pipe installed using the supplied clamps, they came apart after 2000 miles and the rear exhaust fell and dragged along the street (Ouch!). A combination of the vibrations in the exhaust pushing the clamp forward plus the weight of the exhaust on the joint (it began to sag after a few weeks) caused the joint to fail. Taking it back to the shop discovered that the clamps could not hold the exhaust together sufficiently, so welding the clamps in place was the solution. Since then, the exhaust sounded much better as the welds sealed any gaps to prevent leakage (which previously made this exhaust sound a bit raspy when you get on it). Overall, now that the clamps are welded in place (as I probably should've done in the beginning), this H pipe is a welcomed exhaust mod to my 2018 GT. I would highly recommend welding the clamps in place to prevent the issue of any exhaust leaks and eliminate the chance if it coming apart while driving.

          Ease of install

Very easy to install. Simply cut out resonator and clamps cover the space so pipe can be put right up and tightened. If you can cut a pipe and turn a wrench, then you can do this.

          Takes it to another level!!!!

When I had a Roush supercharger and Roush Active exhaust installed, I got everything I could hope for.....except the really loud aspect! This H pipe took care of that. Paired with the active exhaust is the best of ALL worlds. I can pull back into neighborhood (or past that pesky police officer) in a nice quiet nearly stock sound and with the turn of a switch, the monster is unleashed. You will not be disappointed with this addition. Get it welded.
