This replacement intake has the pre installed gaskets right? Will I need to buy the gasket strip separately and place under the manifold? Or do I just clean it off and set the manifold directly on the metal? Will the pre installed gaskets prevent leaks or do I need a separate gasket strip?

    • Yes just set the new intake with the pre installed gaskets directly on the heads after cleaning first of course, the gaskets provided should comply with the oem specifications therefore they should give no problem

What are PI(Performance Improved) heads, and how do you know which ones I have? My car is an 01GT w/ factory heads.

    • PI heads are what Ford called the Performance Improved cylinder heads on the 99-04 4.6L 2v Modular V8. Short version: You have PI heads, while stock 96-98 GT models don't. Long version: The 96-98 SN-95 Mustang GT models used a very similar 4.6L 2v Modular V8, but they only made 215-225 HP stock. With the release of the New Edge models, Ford swapped out the heads for the PI ones, made this better intake manifold to fit them, and swapped out the camshafts for better ones. This brought the engine to 260 HP for 99-04. Outside of these part swaps, the non-PI engines are functionally the same as the PI engines.

What's the difference between this manifold and the one from Ford Racing (Item #24010)? Will the other one perform better or last longer? They look about the same.

    • This Replacement PI Intake Manifold w/ Gasket Set is an aftermarket replacement for your factory intake manifold for the 1999 to 2004 Mustang GT. The Ford Racing Intake Manifold will be slightly larger and flow better than this factory replacement.

What alternator bracket do I need? I have the 2000 Mustand GT. Do I just simply order a alternator bracket off a 2001 Mustang GT?

    • I ordered the manifold, and put it on a 2000 GT I ended up not needing the bracket. I also read for the people who need the bracket you can just drill new holes in old bracket.

Well this need a new heater hose

    • You will not need a new heater hose when installing this intake manifold. This OPR Replacement PI Intake Manifold is designed to be a directbolt-on 1999-2004 GT Mustangs equipped with the stock PI (Performance Improved) heads and reuses the stock alternator and other stock engine accessories.

      It works with less horsepower

After installing this Dorman intake manifold my car had noticeably less power. After I noticed this, I looked online and there is others that said they lost 15 horsepower, and dyno proven. If you're in a pinch for money and this is all you can afford then get it. Otherwise get the Ford Performance intake manifold. That's what I should have done. I'm very disappointed in this intake manifold.

      Fixes all my issues

Was fighting a coolant leak for months at the thermostat housing on the old plastic manifold. The aluminum crossover solved this issue and was easy to install myself in just a few hours.

      Not very impressed

First off, please just do not buy this product. It looks nice in the picture, but they made this intake as cheap as possible and it shows. All the parts were not included in my kit (the plug for the open hole by the thermostat). I'm not impressed one bit with this product. I would have been much happier with just spending 80 more dollars on a better one.

      Just in time

My passenger gasket went out so I bought a new manifold because I wasn’t sure if the old one was bad so to save money instead of buying one gasket I bought this and when the manifold came off it was warped so I did save money and didn’t have to worry for my drive up north for the holiday. Plus it looks better small visual difference.

      Perfect Christmas Gift

Perfect fit!!!! if you are having problems with the thermostat housing leaks and all. This is a must have complete seal!!! perfect fit, no issues what so ever. Took me a while to install since you get the chance to get everything cleaned up for when its back on you don't have that dirty engine with a new intake manifold. Fitted on my Roush 2000 and gave it quite a tune-up.

      Very good Intake

Tha OPR intake was pretty much straight forward, the installation was smooth and also notice okay gains, not like the Ford racing one but pretty close and with the cost can't go wrong. I'm happy with it.

      Budget fix

This Intake manifold is good for a temporary fix and that’s about it. Almost all threads on this are plastic and aren’t reinforced with steel like the Ford Racing OEM Intake Manifold. I don’t know about you, but I didn’t like screwing my fuel rails into plastic threads.

      Decent Intake

The intake itself is working properly. Not REAL happy with the self tappers for the coils and injectors, but it did work out. If your in a pinch and low budget this is your intake. If you have the extra money to spend I would recommend the Ford unit due to no self tappers. But overall it got me on the road and is working properly.
