Justin: The Roush Axle-Back with the Black Tips here is an AM exclusive kit that will appeal to the 2015 through 2017 V6 owners, who'd like one of the loudest and most popular axle-backs available for the ride, along with a very stealthy look. Now, interested S550 owners can look forward to that premium 304-grade stainless steel throughout, complete with your ceramic-coated black tips, along with the corresponding lifetime warranty, offer the mid to high $600 price point. So, the OG Roush Axle-Back is by far and away one of the most popular systems on the site for the S550 with well over 100 5-star reviews from a lot of happy customers. Now, a big reason for the popularity with the Roush, in particular, is the combination of the loud and unique tone, along with the relatively affordable price tag when compared to some of your other options in the category. Now, that same recipe here is available for the 2015 through 2017, 3.7-liter-V6 owners, now, with the new and improved flavor, if you will, thanks to those black tips.Well, let's not waste any more time. Let's just jump right into that signature Roush tone you can expect here when this axle-back is bolted up. And listen, guys, you heard those sound clips at the top of the video. If you want plenty of volume, the Roush is certainly not going to disappoint. So, going to my patented and very official wake-the-neighbor scale, I had the Roush coming in at a very strong four out of five on my one to five or one to wake-the-neighbor scale. Now, guys, this is very impressive for just an axle-back by itself, right? Because you have to figure you still have those stock manifolds in stock mid-pipe in place. Replace those, guys, with some aftermarket free-flowing goodies and expect that number to shoot up dramatically. Now, inside the car, of course, you will hear things a little bit while cruising, certainly not whisper quiet, but at the same time, I wouldn't refer to it as offensive drone or anything that might otherwise steer somebody away from this very popular system. So just how does a Roush achieve this very unique and very loud tone? Well, the star of the axle-back from Roush is no doubt. They're straight through by design, hollow-chambered muffler, which is going to allow for plenty of volume, but at the same time, without the use of any internal packing. So, therefore, you don't have to worry about that sound changing on you over the years, like you might when using a different muffler that sometimes might feature an internal packing design. Sometimes, that stuff can burn out on you over the years, changing your tone. That's not the case here guys. Again, straight through by design, a lot of flow, but without that packing, very consistent sound, no matter how long you have this thing on your ride. But switching gears, let's talk construction here, guys. And with the Roush, you're looking at premium 304-grade stainless steel throughout here. And that does include the very small amount of mandrel-bent tubing, of course, those hollow-chambered mufflers we just talked about, and then finally, the 4-inch dual wall tips here, which, as you guys can see, have been finished off in a high-temp black coating. This is an AmericanMuscle exclusive, by the way, for owners who prefer more of that stealthy vibe. Now, because we are working with that premium 304-grade stainless throughout here, guys, Roush is actually gonna throw a limited lifetime warranty at this system, which is always a nice little thing to point out. But since axle-backs on the S550 do require a small amount of cutting here, guys, be prepared to break out that Sawzall or cutting device of your choosing. Now, because of that, site's automatically gonna bump this one up to a solid two outta three wrenches on the difficulty meter. Call it an hour or so to complete from start to finish. But, give you a better idea of just what you're in for in the garage or driveway, feel free to check out this detailed walkthrough from an AM customer now.Man: Now, to perform this install, this is gonna be broken up into three sections. The first section will be the cutting section since we're gonna be cutting off our stock muffler, we're gonna use an electric reciprocating saw with a metal cutting blade. This particular blade is 18 TPI. We're gonna use a Sharpie to mark off our lines, and then we're gonna use a metal file to deburr any burrs that may come as a result of the cutting process. Now, for fasting our new exhaust, we're gonna be using a 15-millimeter socket for both sets of clamps. I have here a three-eighths drive wrench and also an electric impact driver that I'm also gonna use. And then to elevate the vehicle so that we can access the exhaust, I'm gonna be using a pair of car ramps. All right. Now, to begin this install, the first thing we gotta do is get the car elevated. So I'm gonna go ahead and back it up onto these car ramps. All right, now that we're under the vehicle, I have the axle-back exhaust lined up roughly where it's gonna be mounted. Right above, I have the factory muffler right here. This bracket is where the support slides in. So we're gonna be taking this out of that support and installing the new axle-back exhaust. If you follow the factory exhaust system, right here on this black line's where we're gonna be cutting off and joining our axle-back exhaust. Now that we have the factory muffler off, I'm just gonna take this opportunity to go around with my file and clean off this cut. Make sure there's no burrs. This wasn't the smoothest cut in the world, but I'm gonna go ahead and clean it up as best as I can.And right here, I have, side by side, the old muffler, and our new axle-back exhaust. You can see there's a huge difference in terms of size. And I can tell you right now, the one on the left is about twice as heavy as our new Roush Axle-Back Exhaust. All right. I'm gonna go ahead and take this axle-back exhaust, and just put it right here in this bracket. And then I'm also going to join it up onto the factory exhaust until it fits nice and comfy right about here. And then we're gonna begin our fasting stage. We're gonna go ahead and get everything synced up over here. Now, make sure you've got this band clamp angled upwards, and just go ahead and tighten it up as best as you can. I like to get it almost all the way snug with the impact. And then I like to go with a hand wrench and just finish up the last adjustments. All right. The last step for this side of the exhaust is to just get the tip inserted onto the axle-back. Make sure it goes all the way onto the pipe, just like that. And then we're gonna angle it and make sure it's sticking straight up. And then we're gonna go ahead and finalize the fastening process. Now for this process, I prefer to only hand-tighten it. One, I don't wanna over tighten it, and, two, it is a little bit more difficult to get the impact in here. So, this process might take a while, but this is gonna be the last step in terms of the driver's side of the exhaust installation. All right. We've got the driver's side of our Roush Axle-Back Exhaust fully installed all the way down to the tailpipe. Everything looks good. It's nice and secure. Let's go ahead and get it done for the passenger side as well. All right. For my passenger side, I've already got where I'm gonna cut the exhaust marked off with the Sharpie. The only thing I'm doing differently this time, I do have the stock muffler supported with a floor jack and a couple pieces of wood, just so it doesn't fall in my head this time. All right. Now that we've cut through the exhaust, I'm just gonna, once again, slide it out of the support, and try not to damage the body here. There we go. And then once again, we're just gonna take our file, deburr this, make sure nothing is sharp, nothing that can cause any problems down the road. And then, once again, we've got the factory muffler on the right, and we've got our Roush Axle-Back on the left. Huge difference in terms of size and weight. All right. Just to save some time, I've already got the axle back-mounted, minus the tip. I'm gonna go ahead and tighten down this first clamp, and then we're gonna go ahead and finalize everything with the tip.All right. Boys and girls, the final step is to get this tip bolted on with this clamp. And everything should be finalized with this build, and we can go ahead and test up the new exhaust. All right. Well, that was the full install. Overall, it wasn't too difficult. It's just a little bit trial and error. I hope it was informative. And I do thank you, guys, so much for watching, and hope you enjoy.Justin: So if you're looking for a system that will deliver equal parts, build quality and volume with a very unique look, be sure to check out the Roush Axle-Back with the Black Tips for your S550 V6 right here at americanmuscle.com.
