These are the same exact premium mufflers that are included as original factory equipment on the Ford Mustang RTR designed and developed by Vaughn Gittin Jr. This RTR System was made in close collaboration with Magnaflow Exhaust.

Super Aggressive Sound. RTR worked closely with Magnaflow to achieve a very unique, very aggressive sound that gets rid of the robotic tones of the Coyotes variable cams, producing a clean and crisp consistent exhaust note with very minimal in cabin "drone."

Quality Construction. Manufactured from 100% stainless steel for long life and durability, this RTR Tactical Performance Competition Spec Axle-Back Exhaust has free-flowing mandrel bent 3" tubing and chambered mufflers that feature 4" chrome tips and the "RTR" logo for truly aggressive styling.

Black Ceramic Coating. This RTR Tactical Performance Competition Spec Axle-Back has been finished with a Black Ceramic protective coating, that not only gives this exhaust a dark and intimidating appeal, but it also provides a high temperature thermal barrier for additional protection from the elements.

Lightweight. The RTR Tactical Performance Competition Spec Exhaust is 14 lbs. lighter than the stock Ford axle-back system. This makes it perfect for street, track and drag racers who are looking to shed unwanted weight in the pursuit of quicker times.

Direct Bolt-On Installation. Engineered to be a direct upgrade replacement, this RTR Axle-Back will easily bolt straight up to the stock piping without any modifications or special tools required for an easy installation.

Application. This RTR Tactical Performance Competition Spec Axle-Back Exhaust with Chrome Tips is specifically designed to fit the 2011-2014 GT and Boss Mustangs equipped with the Coyote 5.0L DOHC V8 engine.

I have a 2012 Shelby GT500, and was curious if these would fit on my vehicle? Thanks!

Taco

  • Unfortunately, the RTR Tactical Performance Competition Spec Axle-Back Exhaust - Black Tip (11-14 GT) will not fit a 2012 Shelby GT500. If you are looking for a loud aggressive exhaust, I suggest the Borla ATAK Axle-Back Exhaust (11-12 GT500), item # 387227, (http://www.americanmuscle.com/borla-atak-axleback-1112gt500.html). The Borla Atak's feature an extremely aggressive muscle car sound that can be comparable to the RTR Tacticals.

I love the sound of the RTR Street axle Back. What is the difference between that and the Comp series?

DannyL

  • The difference between Street and Comp spec is: Street Spec gives a more "racey" sound, as it crackles and is more raspy. Comp Spec gives a more "muscle" tone, it will give you a low deep tone and resembles the classic muscle car sound.

    Great axle back

After months of listening to sound clips ( which don't do justice to the real sound) I decided to go for the RTR Tactical and I was very happy when I finally got to hear them. They are loud when needed but otherwise very bearable. There is a drone at 2k rpms in 6th gear but any minimal increase in rpms will make it go away. Beautiful sound. You will not be disappointed. Paid 60 bucks to a local shop to install.

Review from RTR Tactical Performance Competition Spec Axle-Back Exhaust - Black Tip (11-14 GT)

These exhausts are the bee's knees! Everything from the aggressive tone to the black ceramic finish! As far as sound, idle is aggressive and starts off loud. It can be quiet as well. Installation took about 2 hours. I used my 120 piece toolbox, Rhino Ramps for lift, and an extra pair of hands. To avoid disconnecting the tail pipe from the h-pipe I removed the hangers with the rubber mounts and then took out the stock exhausts. Afterwards, I just slipped in these bad boys! It's a really easy install if you want to avoid paying a mechanic. Especially if you just shelled out 600 wing wangs got these exhausts.

Review from RTR Tactical Performance Competition Spec Axle-Back Exhaust - Black Tip (11-14 GT)

    Great exhaust with deep rumble

I have a Boss 302 with the side pipe restrictor plates removed so my car may differ in sound compared to a GT. However, before purchasing these axle-backs I poured over YouTube and various sites for days researching. I kept returning to these and they fit the bill. At cold start they are very deep sounding and fairly loud but not obnoxious. You won't irritate your neighbors. At normal idle they are no louder than stock. The videos do not capture that low deep sound that these emit during acceleration. At cruise speeds they are no louder than the stock mufflers, but under engine load they have a more wicked tone that the video captures fairly well. The fit and finish is perfect. They are actually much smaller than I thought they would be. After removing the stock muffler behemoths, these slipped right in within seconds. They arrived very well packaged and protected with no damage. Overall would buy again if given the choice.

Thumbs up all the way for this product!!!!!

I did a lot of research on picking out my axle backs, I went thru all the sound clips AM had to offer with my headphones on and the ones that kept grabbing my attention were the RTR's. I had the Pypes Pype bomb before I made the switch, the Pypes sounded really good but the RTR's sound amazing! I will say when I'm cruising the Pypes were a little louder but once I get on it the RTR's sound WAY deeper it's like night and day! The exhaust came well packaged nothing came damaged and the finish looks amazing!

Great design. As I expected, less drone in the cabin but scream when your foot is down on the throttle. I tried several mufflers but this one is by far my favorite. I'll try shutting off the side exhaust of my Boss and see how it sound.....

    Wow

I purchased these and had to wait forever (8-9 weeks) but wow, they were worth the wait! Install took about an hr or a little over due to being new to changing them out and making sure all screws removed! The sound before on stock mufflers are blah at best! These may cost a bit but, when i start this machine with the new and improved axlebacks; oh how you can tell the difference! It's amazing! you get the rumble from the jump but when at highway speeds unless on the gas it smoothes out and when you get on the pedal it roars again! They should have come stock with these!!!! Glad I spent my time researching and listening cause MagnaFlow and RTR got it correct! I'd recommend these to everyone!!!

    Best exhaust I've heard!

On start up this thing immediately sounds mean with its own signature groan! This exhaust can get very loud when you want it to be but it can also stay pretty calm when driving slow through neighborhoods. I have zero complaints and I would recommend to anyone wanting a loud deep exhaust.

    Great sound !!

After tons of research I decided to go with this system. I wanted the loudest with the least a mound of drone and this was perfect. Yes there is a slight bit of drone but nothing that is overbearing ot annoying just you can notice it if you try to. Only time it does this drone is on the highway whxih you will get with any aftermarket system and even that drone with this system is VERY minimal. In city it is perfect... Let's people know you mean business. The outside coating that RTR puts on this product is outstanding (I accidentally hit it a few times with my wrench) and there was no chipping and product held together well. All in all would definatly buy this product again.

Review from RTR Tactical Performance Competition Spec Axle-Back Exhaust - Black Tip (11-14 GT)

    Love this exhaust!

First of all the all black finish on these RTR Magnaflow Colab axle back exhaust is very good quality. I took mine to a muffler shop to get put on and it took almost an hour to take off my stock exhaust and get these put on. The sound is absolutely AMAZING. I love how deep the grumble is. The cabin noise is a little loud but they quiet down a lot after a while. Let me just say that this exhaust is really loud especially on cold starts. Only thing I would say is that for the price they should come with some clamps , I had to use my stock clamps. It comes with clamps for the tips but not to actually attach the exhaust. Other than that this a great product.

Review from RTR Tactical Performance Competition Spec Axle-Back Exhaust - Black Tip (11-14 GT)

    Extremely satisfied, GLORIOUS sound

I bought my car used, the previous owner had installed Pypes Pype Bomb axlebacks. While I did like those, I wanted to try something else. These seemed like they would be reasonable enough for driving every day, while still being loud when getting on the gas. I was definitely not let down. Compared to the Pypes (which were very deep, like an electric guitar on full distortion) these have a more "tuned" sound to them, which I really like. Granted, its not as "dirty" of a sound as the Pypes, or my friend's Roush, but they have a more European sound, with a brilliant resonating tone that I love. As far as the install goes, it took me and my friend about 2 hours; HOWEVER, this would have been WAY faster had the Pypes not been so difficult to remove. The Pypes are like the stock mufflers, in that the arms to mount it require that you bring them forward first (near the rear axle), and them move them backwards (towards the back of the car) to get them into place. This is EXTREMELY difficult because, well, the rear axle is in the way, so its very cramped and difficult to remove. These RTR's mount the other way; start near the rear bumper, and move FORWARD into place. Only took about 10 minutes to actually install these. Fit and finish is GREAT. Love the ceramic finish. Overall, extremely satisfied. I know these are pretty pricey, but if you want some exhaust that work every day for below 2K RPM but resonate off the walls and set off alarms when hammering it, these are PERFECT. Great job to Magnaflow and RTR.

    RTR tactical competition axle-back review

Bought these to liven up my 2011 5.0 and it did the trick. Sound was phenomenal the tone was deep and throaty with crackle on let off and downshifts. Forewarning if you have an off-road mid pipe these are going to be extremely loud I ran it with the stock mid pipe and it was as loud if not louder than my friends O/R H with the GT500 axle backs. Fit and finish is awesome much lighter than the factory set up. The black coating didn't tarnish nor did the RTR lettering the only spots that showed rust are the uncoated portions id recommend just spraying it with a heat resistant paint if you are meticulous about that sort of thing. They arnt the cheapest system available but for the price you really do get what you pay for.

    Great!

The install went very smoothly, took about an hour for me and a buddy to do with use of a lift. The mufflers are a lot lighter than my previous GT500 ones, and the powdercoating looks great! My favorite part is the double walled Magnaflow tips with the RTR logo stamped on them! I wish I had gotten the black ones though. Great product!

    Sound is just right!

It took several months looking and listening to different sound clips. What made me keep coming back to RTR Tactical Performance Competition Spec Axle-Back, was the other reviews that I read and how they talked about the sound that the exhaust gives. All the other reviews were right. The sound at idle is one that gets the classic muscle car sound. When you hit the gas that sound just amplifies to perfection. When traveling on the express and need to pass a car... hit the gas and that sound will let that car know that you are coming. My biggest worry was that the wife would hate riding in the car with the new exhaust on. I was highly surprised that she likes the sound. The one thing that needs to be mentioned, it does not take 1 hours to change the exhaust out. It took over 2 hours. If you had a car lift, I might see that the time could be cut down.

O/R x pipe with these... AMAZING

So originally I had Pype bombs axle backs installed and the sound was pretty nice. Once I installed my O/R X pipe the drone in my car was unbearable. The sound of the car was loud but not in a great way. I still wanted loud and aggressive but wanted to be able to listen to music and talk when I need to. The sounds these give when cruising remind me of an Aston Martin ( I work next to an Aston dealer). These Axle backs sound great consistently in all speeds, especially on WOT. They are well made and beautiful to look at.

Can take much more than an hour to install

Since my 2011 Mustang GT with 35,000 miles was mildly rusty on the underside, the joint connectors on the bolts spun and ruined my stock clamps. Then, the stock axle-back would not release from the pipe. I used PB blaster on both and hammered at it for hours. I finally took it to the shop where they cut the stock pipe off and used a torch to allow the flanged section to be removed. I checked the local automotive shops for replacement clamps in KC and nobody had them. Ford had them for $50 a piece. Luckily, my shop found two for $16 each at a wholesale distributor 30 miles away. If you have any rust around the axle-back to mid-pipe connection, plan ahead. In the end, it was worth the hassle. It's very quite when you are off the gas and has nice loud tone that brings a smile to my face when accelerating. Its fairly loud, but its not the in your face and annoying type of loud that will get you complaints from your neighbors.

The Exhaust Looks and sounds awesome! It was a bit damaged when I got it though, not sure how cause it was packaged better than a new born baby leaving a hospital, but the connection on the passenger exhaust was bent and I had to beat it back to round with a hammer to connect it... and there was a chip on the top of the RTR tip, but its hidden under the bumper now that its installed..

Review from RTR Tactical Performance Competition Spec Axle-Back Exhaust - Black Tip (11-14 GT)

Fitment issues and a weird note

Arrived fast and well packaged, but after installing in the garage, noticed that the tips were both slanted towards the inside and both were hitting the inner valance. Had to take it to a shop to get it adjusted and the ended up having to bend the hangers on each side in order to get them to sit in the middle of the opening. Not a huge deal, and only cost me $60, but not exactly "plug n play". The biggest issue I have with these though is that while certainly louder than stock, and have a great note from inside the car, on the outside however there is a... "crispyness" is the only way I can describe it. There is of course the nice deep rumble and bubble, but there is also a high-pitched noise in the mix that sounds like a baffle is loose or something. Comes from the driver side more than the passenger, but it's unpleasant and noticeable. It's also not as loud as I had initially hoped, you can't hear it at all at idle from inside the car with the windows down in traffic. The drone at 2000RPM in 6th gear is almost unbearable, turning on some music helps, but if you're cruising at 70 it plain sucks. As a side note I have everything else still stock (intake, headers, tune, etc). In the end i'll probably leave it on for now, as it's still a vast improvement over stock (and I paid almost $700 including install), but i'll be looking for something else in the meantime.
