Review & Install Video

Hey, I'm Justin with, and this is our powerpack Bolt-On Build-Up for all 94-98 Mustang GTs. Now before we get started, we're well aware of the fact that the 94-95 GTs came equipped with the 5.0 motor before eventually being replaced by the modular 4-6 in 1996. So, with that said, all the parts used here on our '98 today, will not apply to those earlier years, but the idea remains the same, to increase the power. So that's why we put together a pack of parts that should help our GT breathe a lot easier, in turn making for some more horsepower and torque, all while making for one mean exhaust note. Now, before we get started on our car, we need to grab a quick baseline number, and then hand that over to the crew to get everything installed.

Improves Performance. Increase the airflow into your Mustang's two valve 4.6L V8 engine to improve horsepower, torque, and overall performance with a Mustang Upper Intake Plenum.

A Must For Larger Throttle Bodies. Installing a larger throttle body on the factory intake plenum still restricts incoming airflow, but now you get the most out of your Mustangs bigger throttle body by installing an upper intake plenum for improved air flow.

Precision Crafted. This Intake Plenum is made from a permanent mold casting of 356 aluminum to produce a higher quality casting than conventional sand molds, which reduces porosity for an improved finish.

Application. The Upper Intake Plenum is a direct bolt-in replacement for all 1996 to 2004 4.6L 2V Mustangs using a Stock, 70mm, or 75mm Throttle Body.

which throttle body which throttle body would be better? the SR Performance 70mm or 75mm throttle body?

  • If you plan on going forced induction then go 75mm but if not go 70mm. Too much air can cause power loss.

Hi i have a 2000 merc grand marquis, will this fit ?

  • Unfortunately, we would not be able to confirm fitment of this part on a Mercury Grand Marquis; We can only guarantee fitment on Mustangs, we apologize.

will the Airaid Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer fit this?

  • The Airaid Poweraid throttle body spacer will not fit with this Upper Intake Plenum. If you are looking to add a throttle body spacer, I recommend looking at the SR Performance throttle body spacer as that will bolt up to the underside of this intake plenum.

For the price you get a good product that looks very sharp under the hood, also gives you some power and throttle responce, I would reccomend this.

    Good balance price/performance

Bought this and strapped it on, no problems like some of the installation issues I read on reviews of other plenums. Nicer throttle response.

All you folks looking thru this site, you won't find a better place for your mustang needs, great prices and even greater service. I put this Stack racing plenum on my mustang with a half inch spacer(also purchased from AM) and you would not believe the difference it made. The torque and hp gain was unbelievable. Thanks AM you've done it again !!!!

    Good for the money!

Fitment was great except for the rear vacuum nipple which required a larger hose. Rpms seem to hang slightly longer than stock, but only around 1100 rpms then down to normal. This aids in rev matching and overall in town driving with a manual! Worth your while! Thanks AM!

    Who needs Accufab?

I purchased this with the Edelbrock 70mm throttle body. Installation took about 30 minutes with very few tools. Fit and finish was excellent. Throttle and lower intake faces were flat and true and there are no leaks. The piece is solid and looks better than most I've seen on the market. If you've ever considered the Accufab plenum, but didn't have the cash, you need to consider this plenum for your pony.

    Bogs below 3000 rpm

Installed this with the 70mm SR throttle body and updated Bama tune. Lost WOT power below 3000 rpm (bogs), above that it picks up pretty well. I specifically went with this setup to prevent low end power loss, so I'm somewhat disappointed. My previous tunes had not done this, so it's either the TB/plenum or this specific tune, frustrating nonetheless. Throttle response is unchanged from stock. Also, the 2 tube adapters they give you for the plenum do not seem to match the stock plenum (the stock one had a slight curve, these are either straight or sharp curve).

    • Response from AmericanMuscle

Having a larger mm TB and plenum than stock should definitely increase throttle response. I can only imagine that something either isn't hooked up properly or there may be something wrong with the TB or plenum from the mfg causing the issue. We can certainly get some new tunes out to you and see if that helps and go from there. Give us a call so that we can look into this further with you to ultimately find a solution.

    full SR performance intake

I install the SR Performance intake spacer, plenum and 70mm throttle body and all I could say is WOW! blew away all of my expectations! The install of the parts wasn't that bad, just hoses and bolts. When I took the car for a spin it was a hole new car! It seriously felt like my power doubled. You can hear and feel the car getting more air, and it gives you back a lot more power and a lot more throttle responsiveness. The car is like a whole new animal! 110% satisfied!

    Bang for your buck.

Excellent part, it looks great, bolts right in, and the performance gains are very noticeable. I'm running this with a K&N FIPK CAI, SR 70mm TB, and a SR Plenum Spacer. However, I ran this part with the stock Throttle Body, and even then the gains were noticeable without a tune. The only down side is that it takes a while to get used to the extra idle air when shifting, but that just takes a few hours of driving.

    Pretty descent for the money

I installed this along with the SR throttle body spaced and the SR 70MM throttle body. The performance gain for such a cheap easy upgrade was well worth the time and money spent. I would say I'm about average at doing mods on my own vehicle and it was really easy to do with the included instructions. I had no issues and the time it took was just a couple of hours in the evening after work. I could notice right away after starting the vehicle the difference in the sound of the vehicle and once I took it for a drive around the block I could feel a difference. I followed this up about a week later with a new tune and it made a huge difference. I was really happy with the combo.

    Needs some work

I just purchased this, and I'm not impressed out of the box. The throttle body looks great, but not so much the plenum. The inside is rather rough and not all smooth and polished like it should. It's definitely gonna need a little bit if sanding to at least make sure it's smooth and even where the plenum meets the intake manifold. The quality looks good on the outside, but just not impressed with the machining.

    SR Upper intake

I bought this with the spacer and for some reason they made the spacer opening smaller than the upper intake opening. the fitting that came with it for the vac line was way to big. I picked up on my top end but I think I lost on the bottom end, and you can't reuse the engine brace because with the spacer it sits up to high.
