Review & Install Video

Hey guys, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com, here with this SR Performance Cut and Clamp Resonator Delete X-Pipe, available for 2015 and up GT Mustangs. This Resonator Delete X-Pipe from SR Performance is going to be for the S550 GT owners out there that are looking to increase the sound level of their car quickly and without necessarily having to spring for an entirely new exhaust system. This makes it perfect for those of you out there that are on a budget but that need to open up some value and create more of a muscle car sound. Replacing the resonator with an X-Pipe can totally change the sound of the car, even with the stock axleback still installed. The Resonator Delete is firstly going to free up some power and, of course, volume, since it will be replacing that restrictive factory resonator with a 409-grade, stainless steel X-Pipe that is more free-flowing. So not only are you going to have a major change in sound with this X-Pipe, but you'll also be freeing up some power as well. While this does reuse the factory cat so it stays smog-legal, you're still going to have those sound and power gains here and reusing the stock cats will save you money, which is always a plus. This X-Pipe is 2.5" in diameter and [inaudible 00:02:18] and like I said, it is 409-grade which is great for those cars that are daily drivers or those that see weather conditions other than the sun. It's going to offer great corrosion resistance and, like I mentioned earlier, one of the cool things about this X-Pipe is that you can pair it with your stock mufflers for a change of exhaust note, or you can run it with an aftermarket axleback. So you'll cut and remove the factory resonator and clamp into place the new X-Pipe, no matter what axleback you back. But either way you'll still maintain the use of the stock cats. So like a typical X-Pipe, this X-Pipe from SR Performance is going to force the exhaust gases to cross and even out. It's going to create a raspy note and a lot more volume, even with the factory components. On a scale of one to five, with five being the loudest, and keeping in mind that you're still going to have your stock cats, I would rate this X-Pipe with a solid two with the factory axleback. It definitely opens up some sound, but it's not overbearing or crackly or too raspy with the factory axleback. But if you're planning on swapping your factory axleback anytime soon, just know that this X-Pipe will help make things a lot louder. Depending on which axleback you end up choosing, you could be looking at more of a four on the loudness scale. As far as price goes, this X-Pipe Resonator Delete is the most affordable on the site, especially when you start to consider how much exhaust costs for the S550. This X-Pipe costs just a little over $100 and there currently is only one other X-Pipe that even comes close to this price. But the real kicker is, this other option is made from aluminized steel, while the SR Performance X-Pipe is that 409-stainless that I mentioned. At the end of the day, I would say that this is a great deal. You have a fast and easy way to totally change your exhaust and it's also a high-quality material. And if you think about it, if you pair this with an aftermarket axleback, you've effectively created a cat-back for your GT and you've paid a lot less for it. As for the install, you do have some flexibility here. Like the name suggests, there will be some cutting involved but nothing too difficult. If you take your time, it's going to take about two hours to complete, maybe less. And I'm going to call this a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, but mainly just because of the cutting that's involved. The X-Pipe does come with brand new clamps that SR Performance has upgraded so they'll perform correctly, and like I just mentioned, you always have the option of clamping the front and welding in the rear of the X-Pipe. But that's up to you and your shop. A lot of people like welding in the rear better but that's not something that you have to do. I will say that the X-Pipe is 2.5" out the rear as well, which means that you will need to slit or expand the ends so you can slip it over your factory exhaust. That's going to be the only downside here, but ultimately that's really just a small bump in the install road. It's nothing to really rain on the parade of the value of this piece, especially if you have a good shop installing it. So overall, this is a high-quality, stainless steel Resonator Delete X-Pipe that can work with either the factory axleback or an aftermarket one. It also works with the factory cats and it's going to free up some sound and volume from the GT. It's a great way to inexpensively change your exhaust note, and as always check it out more online for yourself. And for all things Mustang, keep it right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Improve Exhaust Flow For More Power. Replace the restrictive factory Mid-pipe Resonator on your coyote Powered S550 Mustang with a free flowing SR Performance Resonator Delete X-Pipe to improve your pony's exhaust flow for an increase in horsepower, torque and overall performance.

Race Car Growl. SR Performance's free flowing X-Pipe for the 2015-2017 GT Mustangs not only eliminates the factory resonator to help increase power, but it also adds a loud raspy, race car growl to the sound of your exhaust with its modern "X" crossover pipe design.

Reuses Stock Cats. This SR Performance X-Pipe requires cutting and removing the factory Mid Pipe resonator and clamps in place reusing the stock clamps. Best of all it reuses the factory catalytic converters saving you money and keeping you smog legal at the same time.

Stainless Steel Construction. Manufactured from 2.5" diameter free-flowing mandrel bent 16 gauge 409 stainless steel tubing for it's durability and corrosion resistance, this SR Performance X-Pipe will improve exhaust flow and last a lifetime.

Application. The SR Performance Cut and Clamp Resonator Delete X-Pipe is specifically designed for use on the 2015-2017 GT Mustangs equipped with the coyote 5.0L DOHC V8 engine.

Can the 409 stainless be confirmed? I saw on other sites this was being advertised as aluminized steel.

JoeM

  • I am not sure which other site this x-pipe was advertised as aluminized steel, however, American Muscle is the exclusive dealer for SR Performance and they are indeed constructed of T409.

Is this X Pipe better than the Heartthrob H pipe?

SixTimeChamps

  • Hey Champ, To say one is better is really relative, they both are about the same in terms of power, the difference lies mainly with sound. H-pipe you generally get a deeper sound than an x-pipe. But x-pipes are usually louder.

I have a roush axle back. What is the best x pipe do you recommend me to put on my car to be louder?

SultanN

  • All of the x-pipes we offer remove the resonators providing a similar sound throughout, that being said, the roush resonator delete x-pipe would be the best way to go with the roush axleback.

Actually I am wondering if I put this x pipe, it will give me some horse power? Also I have Roush axle back will it improve the sound of my car?

SultanN

  • Yes, the x-pipe will be more free-flowing, which in turn will provide a small amount of extra horsepower.

if i were to buy this with the flowmaster outlaw axle back exhaust will i need anything else or will the two be a direct fit for one another?

EmanuelP

  • Hey Emanuel, So both of those items require cutting as do all of the axle backs for the most part. So they can work in conjunction with each other its just that the exhaust systems require that cutting for proper installation

    Great 1st mod!

I had this x-pipe in my garage before I even took delivery of the vehicle. It was installed with less than 20 miles on the car and I have no regerts. Installed from the floor of my garage with the car on 4 jack stands. Measure at least twice before cutting. The stock resonator makes the car too quiet and this really wakes up the exhaust note. I kept the stock mufflers on the car and it sounds awesome! There are times when I wish it was a bit louder, but that's what electronic cut-outs are for.

    SR X-Pipe

Wow, what a great X-Pipe! This pipe is very good quality. You might think by the price it might not be so good, but let me tell you. It's 409 stainless steel, the weld is flawless, and oh boy what a great sound. It clamps right in and comes with seal clamps for the rear that actually work. I am running the stock mufflers with this pipe and I love the sound. It woke up my ride instantly. Great upgrade!

Looks great, sounded great, light weight

The item is perfect for the price, it made a bit of difference. I still wanted my car louder so I ordered axle back mufflers. But this was an improvement and removed weight, by taking the resonator off.

    Nice resonator replacement

This was relatively inexpensive and came quickly. I like it for the most part - I decided to expand the tube around my existing exhaust front and rear the seam on the X pipe split while this was being done ( therefore three stars for fit and finish). welded that back together and everything worked fine. Sounds nice with Rausch axle back exhaust. No interior drone.

    SR X Pipe

Before I installed this, all I had on my 16 GT PP was the RTR magna flow competions. They sounded good but I wanted a little louder. I bought the x pipe and installed it? First start up scared the heck out of me, for they were maybe a little too loud now. But other than that sounded great. Very very loud and will certainly attract maybe a little too much attention. At cold starts it has a weird trumpet sound, idk how else to explain it. Could just be the xpipe/ axle back combo. Also increased the drone to an almost deafening level, from 1750-2000 rpm, 65-70mph, which sucks cuz that's the speed limit for most roads. So now I have to drive 70 to avoid drone. My compressor wend out so had to use hand hack saw (whiched made it 10x more difficult) but got it done with the help of a buddy. Used the clamps provided, they are not as bad as everyone says they are, but will get them welded in in the near future. I give it a 8/10 just because of weird trumpet sound and drone.

    SR Resonator Delete

Recently purchased the SR Performance Resonator Delete. I took it to a local exhaust shop and it was installed in under an hour. Fit and finish seem spot on. Thought it would make the car a lot louder than what It did. Adding an axle back should give me the sound I'm looking for. Overall though, an excellent product.

    Bang for the buck

The SR Performance X-Pipe for the '15-'16 GT has to be one of the best bang for the buck mods available. It's made of stainless steel while other pipes in the same price range are aluminized carbon steel. The TIG weld was very nicely done. The instructions are poor and essentially useless. Use common sense, square up the x-pipe at the front of the factory exhaust. Mark the factory pipes at the end of the x-pipe on each side and cut. Clamp into place with the factory clamps in front and the supplied clamps at the rear of the x-pipe. It took about 2 hours, but if doing another install could probably get it done in half the time.

    X-Pipe

Looking for more volume and this fit the bill perfectly. The factory sound was very well tuned but way too quite! The X-pipe added just a little bit of a race car growl and enough volume to make the car noticeable without being too loud. Extra and pleasing volume when getting on it...no drone while cruising at any RPM.

    Cackle

Lots of that rasp i was looking for. Warning, this will make your car much produce much less rumble and deep tone. It will be a scream bloody murder once you take it above a couple thousand rpms. Also, mine was paired with the outlaw axle back kit originally. I eventually swapped back to the stock mufflers because i drove 60ish miles each day for work, but as long as you keep the rpms below 2000 there was no drone; above 2000 and you couldn't hear anything. With the stock mufflers it sounds basically the same as stock with the resonator. i think this x pipe would go great with a legit pair of mufflers rather than something minimal such as the outlaws.

    SR Resonator Delete X-Pipe

The price was the first thing that caught my eye! Then it said, "304 stainless steel!" You know that I was really interested then! I had to have it. I don't understand why all the other brands are so expensive. I got everything that I needed to do the install with and took me around an hour to do it all. Very happy with the quality of the parts and the sound is exactly what I was looking for. Shipping was direct and fast, 3 days and was on my doorstep in NC. Ordered it online and had 0 problems. I try to order all my S550 parts here. They are up to date on everything and always the best customer service when you need them.

    SR Performance X Pipe

Everything was received in good order. This seems to be the best priced 409 stainless X-pipe I could find, so choosing this one just made the most sense to me. I took the car into a local exhaust shop for installation, they said the fitment was fine. They ended up clamping the front, and welding the back (I prefer welds anyway). The sound is much better and louder than stock, especially between 2000 and 5000rpm. The loudness seems to taper off above 5000, might be an equilibrium between induction and exhaust noise? I wish it was a bit louder above 5000, but this isn't a mod you buy for a big improvement in volume, but rather type of sound with a mild increase in volume, and mild possible performance gains. Overall, I'm satisfied with the product. As others have stated, the clamps don't seem great, but I didn't end up using them as the rear was welded anyway.
