Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

Hey, everybody, I'm Justin with americanmuscle.com and this my detailed interview and install of the Stainless Works 3 inch Retro LMF Cat-Back Exhaust system with H-Pipe available for your 2015 and newer fast back GT. I'm going to be talking about a few things in this video including what can kind of sound you can expect when using the LMF system here from Stainless Works, what you're going to find as far as basic materials and construction and then finally, a quick little walk-through of the install. And as is the case with most S550 Cat-Backs you're looking at a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter and then we'll have a little bit more detail coming up later on. So you should be checking out the LMF 3 inch H-Pipe Cat-Back from Stainless Works if you're after a very loud and aggressive tone from a quality brand like Stainless Works, if you preferred that low thumping tone of an H-pipe, and finally, you'd like to get some A+ materials in the process. The LMF series of exhaust from Stainless Works is in response to the people who really enjoyed the sound of the original Stainless works Retro Chambered Cat-Back, the two and a half inch system but just craved a little bit more volume and the bigger cores or mufflers here for the higher horsepower applications. The result is the LMF that I have in this video. Now, LMF actually stands for something that I can't technically say in this video without getting in trouble, but I'm sure if you guys use your imagination you can figure it out. And it definitely lives up to its name here as well guys. Breaking out the wake-the-neighbor scale, I'm going to go strong four out of five with the H-Pipe version of the LMF. Now, the X-Pipe version in my opinion is just a little bit louder. It gets a strong five out of five for me, but the H-Pipe does a good job of keeping the volume down slightly. It helps round out the tone a little bit as well and keeps some of the rasp in check that is present with the X-Pipe version. And for all the sound you're getting on the outside of the car here with this system, you're also picking up a good amount of sound on the inside as well. While on the topic of sound, let's really break down how the LMF gets its name and all of it's a volume. Now, again Stainless Works started off with basically their super popular two and a half inch retro chambered system, just gave it a little bit more size and a lot more volume. Now that standard retro chambered system is a two and a half inch system when it does come to the mufflers or cores here. The LMF is bumped up to a full three inch system, again making it a better choice for those higher horsepower applications and adding a whole lot of sound in the process. The sound from this particular Cat-Back is shaped by the three inch retro chambered resonators and mufflers working in combination with the included H-Pipe again here with this system delivering that lower thumping tone we mentioned earlier. Now for your information guys, you can can pick up the LMF system but with an X-Pipe in place of the H if you prefer a little bit more volume and a little bit more rasp over this system. In fact, cruise on over to the product page for that system, listen to the sound clips, and you can see what it's all about. I do want to quickly go back to the three inch cores or mufflers here with this system because, again, I do want to reiterate that this would be a great choice for the S550 GT owners out there who have already boosted their ride or maybe plan on going forced induction down the road because, ultimately, those cars that are boosted just enjoy a slightly larger system overall for the most performance and most power. And on that same topic, I do also want to point out that this system does feature the factory style connection here with corresponding neck-down as you guys can see. However, if you did want to eliminate that chokepoint and go full three inch, you do have the LMF on the site here that eliminates that. Again, it's designed to work with the Stainless Works long tube headers and is a full three inch basically from tip to tip. Let's switch gears real quick and talk about the construction and materials here with the LMF system. And as I mentioned earlier here, guys, nothing but A+ stuff throughout. You're looking at premium grade 304 stainless steel throughout including the retro chambered resonators and mufflers and the four inch conical wall/cut tips. This is a great system because again you are getting that 304 grade stainless steel which is the benchmark when it comes to materials. It is the premium material, it's going to reduce corrosion far better than 409 or even aluminized steel. The trade-off is it usually comes with a higher price tag, but Stainless Works does do a great job of keeping things reasonable despite the premium bill. And while on the topic of price, it is worth mentioning that this thing is hovering right around that $1000 price point, which is pretty solid in my opinion given the level of quality and the level of materials here. Now, other systems that are going to match this level of quality and craftsmanship include Corsa, Borla and even Kooks and all of those systems are more expensive than the LMF we have in this video. And the installation really isn't going to kill you either here guys. And that is the case usually when dealing with S550 Cat-Backs, you're going to be looking at a one out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter, maybe an hour or two of your time from start to finish using some basic hand tools. Now, when I say basic hand tools, basically I'm meaning socket set here, an impact gun if you have one, good for you, and an extra set of hands would definitely be helpful with this install. You're going to want to remove that battery Cat-Back first, of course. The thing is one piece. It can be a little bulky to move around by yourself, so this is where you need an extra set of hands. After that, simply install the Stainless Works Cat-Back in reverse order, starting from front to back and, again, you should be wrapped up in a couple of hours from start to finish. As a fan of the H-Pipe sound I really enjoy the LMF from Stainless Works and here is why. Yes, you're getting a very loud, very aggressive system but it's still a clean sound it's not raspy or distorted which can sometimes be the problem when you go with a more aggressive system. On top of that, you're getting great quality, great materials here with this system all for the price point of 1000 bucks. So, that's my review on of the LMF from Stainless Works with the H-Pipe, which you can find right here at americanmuscle.com.

Deep, Aggressive Sound. You know that aggressive, retro muscle car sound that turns heads and raises eyebrows? Give your 2015-2017 GT Fastback exactly that. Bolt-on this 3" Retro LMF Cat-Back Exhaust with H-Pipe from Stainless Works and obtain that deep, loud, vintage sound we've all grown to love. Not only will this Cat-Back System sound stellar, it also enhances your exhaust flow for improved horsepower and torque.

Bigger is Better. This 3" Cat-Back Exhaust from Stainless Works features 3" core retro chambered LMF mufflers and resonators, resulting in a much louder, more aggressive rumble than the 2.5" core version. But bigger in this case does not mean heavier. In fact, this system is a full 22 pounds lighter than the stock cat-back system, making it ideal for those looking to shed weight at the track and obtain a killer sound all at once.

Quality Construction. Manufactured out of durable 304 stainless steel for its superior strength and corrosion resistance, this 3" Retro LMF Cat-Back with H-Pipe by Stainless Works won't rust or corrode with the weather as cheaper stainless steel tends to do. This 3" mandrel-bent system steps up from its 2.5" connection point, providing exhaust gasses a bigger, smoother outlet and ultimately increases power. Not only will this exhaust system deliver enhanced sound and performance, it's completed with two remarkable 4" mirror polished SS slash cut conical double-wall tips.

Straight Forward Install. The Retro LMF Exhaust System comes with all of the necessary hardware, hangers and clamps needed for installation. Thanks to CNC design and precision machine work, it's a direct fit, bolt-on replacement upgrade that fastens directly to the OEM factory manifolds without any modifications needed.

Application. This Stainless Works 3" Retro LMF Cat-Back Exhaust System with H-Pipe is a perfect upgrade for 2015-2017 Mustang GT Fastbacks with either automatic or manual transmissions. Requires the factory exhaust manifolds for proper fitment. Not compatible with convertibles or long tube headers.

After dropping the factors resonator, the H pipe gives you that aggressive tone. Those 4" tips give the car a mean look from the rear.

I still like talking to my wife and jamming to some def Leppard tunes. So my question is will the drone or the loudness of the exhaust be to much will my wife and I have scream at each other?

RandyR

  • Hey Randy, So Stainless Works names this system LMF and its for a reason. It stands for Loud Mother... well you know the rest. Its going to be an extremely loud, radio high volume, wake your neighbors pulling off, screamin pour some sugar at the top of your lungs as your mustang rolls down the street. If that's what you're looking for I say go for it, if you are only looking for a more moderate upgrade I would look into Borla S-type, Flowmaster American thunder, or systems similar to those.

What can I expect as far as drone with the LMF with H-pipe?

jgarnes

  • The Stainless Works 3 in Retro LMF Cat-Back Exhaust w/ H-Pipe is going to give the car a very nice deep tone. The only downsides to a deep toned exhaust is the drone especially with there not being any mufflers in this system. I would expect a decent amount of drone with a kit like this.

What is the difference between LMF and non-LMF systems, and, what does LMF stand for? (I can assume one meaning, but rather hear from a more authoritative source)

Gibzter

  • Note: This info is based on Stainless Works parts numbers... LMF would be the 3" muffler core vs the 2.5" standard core (non LMF) and yes LMF AKA Loud...M.. (leave the rest to your imagination)
