- How to Install an SCT SF3/X3 Tuner on your 1996-2012 Mustang
Justin: Hey guys Justin with AmericanMuscle.com here with a Stage 1: Power Pack Bolt-On Build-up with the 2010 through 2012 Shelby GT500. Now when Ford and Shelby decided to reintroduce the GT500 back in 2007, obviously everyone went crazy. The 2007 to 2009 GT500 were absolute brutes just like the original that debuted nearly 40 years early. However, like the great Carol Shelby would often say, his favorite car was the next one. And in this case the next one was the 2011 and 2012 GT500s, which were now powered by an all-aluminum supercharge 5.4 liter, topped off with a big old Eden blower making 550 horsepower and 510 pound feet of torque respectably. But Shelby himself was never really truly satisfied with horsepower. I mean he was always how to make things faster just like a lot of us. Sothat's why we're making these power packs. We already grabbed our baseline model with our 2012 GT500 here where we laid 503 horsepower and 475 feet of torque at the rear wheels. So now that we know where we stand what do you say we get the the first mods of our powerpack. Alright guys this power pack consists of two pretty basic parts that a majority of our Mustang owners turn to when they first get their rides, GT500 owners included and there's a reason for that. For one, they are extremely easy to install, even for the most novice mechanic out there, and best of all they get results. The first of these mods is the JLT Big Air Carbon Fiber Cold Air intake, which is available to all 2010 through 2014 GT500s. Again a pretty simple intake here, but it does go a long way when comes to modifying cars with these roof style blowers like on our Shelby. By installing an intake like the JLT here, you are now only allowing the engine to breathe much easier, but you're also increasing the Supercharger's efficiency and increasing the flow capacity. So basically when it does come time to swap foleys down the road, your blowers not going to get choked out by a less efficient factory intake. And performance aside guys, the JLT just looks awesome under the hood here. The carbon fiber construction will definitely add some style points, while this massive powerstack filter does give the option of washing and reusing and re-oiling the filter as opposed to the paper element filter that does comes with the stock intake. And again, best of all very simple installation about an hour tops with basic hand tools. Now if you want to actually click on the link below you can learn a little bit more about the JLT and actually hear what some GT500 owners are saying about having this intake installed on their own ride. One more thing about the JLT. Now it does boast one of the largest mass airflow housings available on the market today at 147 milliliters, basically allowing your motor to devour just massive amounts of air. Because of this however, we are going to need a costume tune. So for that we are going to call in Mike J. from the Bama Performance team so we can get a tune for all of our new mods. Our baseline with our 2012 GT500 gave us 503 horsepower and 475 pound feet of torque. With all of Stage 1 Power Pack modifications installed, our car now put down 523 horsepower and 497 pound feet of torque, giving us a peak gain of 20 horsepower over baseline numbers and gains of 31 horsepower and 28 pound feet of torque throughout the curve. Well guys, with only 2 basic mods and about an hours worth of our time we able to give our already nasty Shelby GT500 a pretty considerable bump in power. Non mechanics way to up HP on an 10 GT500
Overall a good experience. Had a problem with my race tune not loading. Called Bama and they walked me through the issue. A little bit of a wait with all the Covid issues going on but easy process. Car runs much better with a noticeable gain in throttle response and pull. Definitely an easy way to non mechanically increase HP. Definitely made the car even more fun to drive!Helpful (3)

GT500 WOKEN UP!
As part of a stage 2 performance upgrade including S/C pulley and intake, this Bama Performance tune woke up a good performing GT500! Throttle response very snappy now. Aggressive, hard pulls in all the gears. Quicker car by all means!! Had a few questions and got lots of help from the team at B. Performance! Recommended!!Helpful (15)

Returned after Opening
After opening the box for my tuner, I noticed the BAMA identification plate was for a Mustang GT, not my Shelby. This made me question the preloaded tunes, that is if they were for my Shelby or for the GT. The American Muscle team quickly emailed me correct tunes for my Shelby. I then quickly realized that you must have a Windows computer not a Mac computer to upload the new tunes. Also, Tried updating the tuner via WiFi, locked up several times. No where does it state that a Windows computer is required. Returning for a refund!Helpful (9)

easy to use
after updating the tuner (which was very easy) I hooked up the tuner to my shelby and followed the prompts. Did not have any problems. Noticeable increase in throttle response and power. Did not have a chance to try the race tune yet, waiting for car to learn the performance tune first. The tunes for life can't be beat. I plan to do some mods in the future and I trust the Bama team.Helpful (15)

Awesome Bang for the Buck!
Easy to install the tune. The Bama Support team was amazing. I had a few questions about how far we could push the tune. They helped set me up with DataLogging. The Tuner came preloaded with two tunes. A 91 octane and 93 octane. I used the 93 Octane and the car pulls stronger now, and runs great. Throttle response is fantastic, no pinging, no stumbling. I had bought the bama performance I loved everything about it except the plug in cord under my steering wheel shoots straight down and can not keep programmer plugged in at all times device is very understanding to get used to on how to use it and everything would recommend to others and have thank you for the live tunesHelpful (12)
