Simple installation for anyone.
Justin from AmericanMuscle.com, we're here with Chris Thompson from Airaid. He stopped by the shop to tell us a little more about these great Airaid products. We're very familiar with Airaid; we use them on our project cars with great success. Chris, what can you tell us about Airaid that makes it so unique? "Everything we do is digitally designed. It's engineered to fit, it's engineered to work, it's engineered to work without any special tuning. Now, tuning is much, much better. You guys offer a lot of great choices in aftermarket tuning. It'll only enhance the performance of the Mustang. We design our intakes so there's no special gluing required, there's no cutting or hacking of the engine required. If somebody decided to put a stock intake back on, they don't have to go back to Ford to buy another part to put the piece back on. Every intake we do is digitally designed. It's all about the design of the airflow and the linear charge to the throttle body. We use the rotational molding not so much for the heat soaking, but for the shape of the tube we can come up with. By using the rotational molding, it allows us to really give the right shape and form to make sure the product works well." We're very excited—we've got our 2013 Mustang here, probably not even 10 miles on this thing yet, and we already have an Airaid intake on it. Tell us a little more about that. "This is awesome. We're really excited to be here today. This is the first Airaid intake on a 2013 Mustang. We're really excited to be here with you guys. As you can see it fits. We know for sure it fits. We believe we have a hit. We'll do a little bit more testing on it before we release it to the public, but that should happen anytime now." Now, you were telling me earlier, you're working with some legends in the Mustang world. "Well, we're excited about working with Parnelli Jones and his son PJ. Parnelli's been instrumental in helping us come along with the Boss 302 intakes we're trying to develop. Nobody knows the heritage of the Boss 302 better than Parnelli Jones. We worked with PJ on the side by side utility vehicles (Razors, Rhinos, and TRX's). We also sponsored him in the past on his endeavors in the American Le Mans Series, which he ran last year." Chris, thank you so much for educating us on your great Airaid products. And as always, you can find those great Airaid products right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

As with all CAI's this one was easy to install and did not trip any CEL's. Didn't feel any real difference since install but should be better after I tune my 2012 Kona blue BossHelpful (7)

This kit comes with detailed instructions and a sound tube delete option if you choose to get rid of it. It took me a couple hours to install and that's with taking my time. The fit and finish is awesome and best of all no tune required so I can keep my track key. Got a nice whistle now driving around and sounds great when getting on it, definitely better throttle response. The engine bay really looks great now. If you have a 13-14 with the heat extractor hood, be sure to call airaid for the water shield to keep rain off the filter, it doesn't come with the kit.Helpful (8)

Good but DOES require a tune on my Boss 302
After installing this with a stock tune, I wanted to get tuned with AED. Datalogs showed my idle to be about 20-25 percent lean. I leak tested my intake system and catch can with pressurized air as well as carb cleaner and found nothing. I put the stock air box back on and the lean idle was gone. On a friends advice, I measured the ID of this Airaid where the MAF is WITH the venturi tube. Turns out it is about 1/8" larger than stock. This is what was causing the lean idle with stock tune. This in turn, affected my short term fuel trims, and actually made my car a bit slower at the tip in of WOT. This is a well built intake, and I will keep it, but not until I am fully tuned.Helpful (8)

More blat for the buck
This installed in just over an hour on the day after Christmas with first-time key turn joy as we started this CAI up without a tune and without a burp. Its hard to say the power is increased - certainly the blat-blat-blat in first and second gear is more pronounced which makes the power seem more serious. This car doesn't stop pulling in first second or third gear now, and you have to watch the clutch to keep from breaking the back end free. PS - this kit will install and delete your stock roar resonator should you so decide (artificial cabin noise from the engine which isn't needed and adds artificial color to what is already a masterpiece of sound. Its your choice to delete it, I did. You wont be sorry on this great looking upgrade. The only thing I'd like is a blue filter choice to match my covers on the engine...Helpful (5)

This product does help your Mustangs performance
After installing the AirRaid Cold air filter I did notice a good power gain. I first installed it with the venturi tube, using the stock tune with the Red Key. I could tell it would accelerate quicker especially in the middle gears, 3rd and 4th. I decided also to install the race tune from American Muscle and take the Venturi tube out. After this was done I took it out on the road and it had even better acceleration and sounded better using the sound tube. I will say it was worth the money spent.Helpful (7)

Love the look and the easy installation
Very easy to install had to use rubber grommets from stock air box fit like a glove and made engine bay look beautiful.Helpful (6)
Is this intake legal in California(CARB)?
This intake unfortunately is not CARB compliant in California and other states that are adopting California regulations.
I have a 2011 GT with the BOSS IM and a JLT intake kit, would I have to get another tune to use with the Airaid kit?
Yes, another cold air kit such as the Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake would require a re-tune unless using the modular venture tube.
Will this fit a 90mm TB?
The Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake will fit 90mm Throttle bodies but may need the coupler warmed up in hot water, or silicone spray lubricant to slide easily over the throttle body.
Will the coupler fit a 90mm TB?
Couplers are a one-size-fits-all piece, all you would need to do to fit it over larger parts would be to heat it up slightly. Heating the couplet expands it, allowing you to fit it over the larger piece.
I have a 2013 boss 302. Does this fit directly with my stock throttle body?
This CAI is a direct fit with your stock throttle body.
Millz64 I am a fan of Cold Air Filter systems. Anything to get the engine heated air away from the intake source. You get better throttle response. fuel mileage, a win win situation. You will get a "slight" increase in power. Duke 7
DJ2013 I believe that if there is a difference in the connection from the stock set-up, that you would have to change that coupling. I would think that Air-Aid would have added instructions to any modifications that are needed to be made, with your particular set up. However, you have not made reference to Your Vehicle. Year, model, engine, stock, or modified. This is the best I can do, with the existing info. If you still have question try contacting Air-Did The Duke
FastBoss, Air-Aid makes both oiled and dry filters in Red & Blue colors. When you order your kit you have to specify what type you want. If you did not specify then you get what they send. You'd have to would have to look to see what they sent. I have used both and found no difference. The Duke
Yes, it will also fit 11-14 GT with Boss manifold. You can actually go the Airaid's website and do a product search, and one of the options in the menu is if you have the Boss manifold on your Mustang, and when you choose that option, this model shows (450-321) shows up. Here's what is says in their fitment notice: FITS: FORD Mustang Boss 302 2012-2013 V8 5.0L FORD Mustang w BOSS Manifold 2011-2014 V8 5.0L
Hey Oldude, Unless raw water flows over your air filter, or you drive in water deep enough for raw water to enter your intake by way of the air filter. Fear Not! The Duke
