      Review & Installation Video

Hey everyone I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com and I’m taking a detailed look into Airaid’s Race cold air intake system for all 05-09 Mustang GTs. This kit is designed to give your Mustang a serious boost in performance when paired with a tune, by giving you maximum air flow, which translates into more horse power, more torque, and improved fuel efficiency. The kit comes with everything you need including the intake tube itself, heat shield, washable high flow filter, and all coppers and hardware. Now the tube, and the shield are made from a durable high intensity polyethylene which makes it less susceptible to heat soak, allowing for cooler, more dense air to be drawn into your engine. It also makes for a sleeker appearance under the hood as well. But enough with all the technical talk already we’re here to see how much power this intake is going to put down, but before we go bolting everything up, we need to get a baseline number from our 2006 GT back there. So in stock form our GT put down a total of 269 horse power, and 296 ft/lbs of torque. Now let’s get that stock airbox out of there and install our Airaid intake, which should take you no longer than an hour using standard hand tools. As we mentioned earlier, in order to run this race intake from Airaid, you will need to pair it with a performance tune, we’re going to upload our custom 93 octane Bama tune which is going to optimize your spark timing, adjust your variable cam timing, perfect those air/fuel ratios, and give you drastically improved throttle response. So with all that done and our intake installed lets turn the roller one more time, and see the improvement this intake made on our GT. Our Airaid equipped GT made a total of 296 horse power, and 313 ft/lbs of torque, making for a peak gain of 27 horse power over our baseline numbers, and a gain of 35 horse power, and 30 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. So if you and your Mustang are on the endless quest for maximum horse power and you either have a tuner, or plan on getting one in the near future, then you’ll definitely enjoy the gains you see from this race intake from Airaid.

4 2005 GT - Richard Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

What I wanted but all parts not there.

I'm happy with the intake but...the vacuum hose was left out of the kit. I had to go buy one from my local parts store. Also, one of the screws sent to screw in the air sensor was stripped. I had to find another. Someone at Airaid needs to do better quality control on the products they send out. Check your box before you get started!

Had to shave a bit off one of the wholes in the aid dam so that the bolts to the filter fitting could align. Everything else was simple, love the sound, great to pair up with my cams.

      5 Top Rated Questions

I plan on purchasing this for my 2006 gt, question is: have stock air filter housing, which was placed back on prior to me purchasing recently ( thinking CAI was on from previous owner, bottom of air box missing), dealer had to retune. The predicament is that is has the Fang performance shaker kit (hood funnels air to top of air filter location). If I purchase this CAI along with a tuner, what happens when driving and the shaker unit will push more air into top of open filter, do you retune after driving, as this may change, any advice would be appreciated, helping me to make correct choice?

      • This intake does require a tune for proper operation, and the tune can accommodate for the shaker unit. If you notice something with the shaker that is making to car run a little lean, you may data-log the vehicle while driving and provide the data-log to your tuning specialist to compensate for the additional changes of the shaker unit. Additionally, the heat-shield for the intake will need to be modified to be used with the shaker, but it would function as normal after the proper alterations are performed.

What's the difference between the Race and regular MXP cai? Looking to replace my C L Street with something that will make a little bit more HP, but can't decide between the 2.

      • The race intake will not have a venturi tube making it flow more air and needing a tune. Whereas the normal MXP intake will come with the venturi tube inserted but can also be removed.

I currently have a Ford Racing shaker installed on my 08 GT but have been looking for a CAI to replace the factory airbox that the shaker currently breathes through. I noted one customer who bought this intake made a notch in the heat-shield to route the piping for the shaker through. With a proper seal, would this compromise the effectiveness of the heat-shield, or would the cold air from the shaker compensate for any potential loss of shielding? 1 answer
