    Review & Installation Video

Hey everyone I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com and I’m taking a detailed look into Airaid’s Race cold air intake system for all 05-09 Mustang GTs. This kit is designed to give your Mustang a serious boost in performance when paired with a tune, by giving you maximum air flow, which translates into more horse power, more torque, and improved fuel efficiency. The kit comes with everything you need including the intake tube itself, heat shield, washable high flow filter, and all coppers and hardware. Now the tube, and the shield are made from a durable high intensity polyethylene which makes it less susceptible to heat soak, allowing for cooler, more dense air to be drawn into your engine. It also makes for a sleeker appearance under the hood as well. But enough with all the technical talk already we’re here to see how much power this intake is going to put down, but before we go bolting everything up, we need to get a baseline number from our 2006 GT back there. So in stock form our GT put down a total of 269 horse power, and 296 ft/lbs of torque. Now let’s get that stock airbox out of there and install our Airaid intake, which should take you no longer than an hour using standard hand tools. As we mentioned earlier, in order to run this race intake from Airaid, you will need to pair it with a performance tune, we’re going to upload our custom 93 octane Bama tune which is going to optimize your spark timing, adjust your variable cam timing, perfect those air/fuel ratios, and give you drastically improved throttle response. So with all that done and our intake installed lets turn the roller one more time, and see the improvement this intake made on our GT. Our Airaid equipped GT made a total of 296 horse power, and 313 ft/lbs of torque, making for a peak gain of 27 horse power over our baseline numbers, and a gain of 35 horse power, and 30 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. So if you and your Mustang are on the endless quest for maximum horse power and you either have a tuner, or plan on getting one in the near future, then you’ll definitely enjoy the gains you see from this race intake from Airaid.

Increase Horsepower and Torque. Airaid Race Cold Air Intake Systems are computer designed to give your engine maximum air flow, which translates into more horsepower, torque and improved fuel efficiency. Airaid Race intakes are dyno tested and tuned for maximum performance and efficiency.

Superior Filtration. This cold air intake not only improves horsepower, but it also provides superior air filtration, since it includes an Airaid Premium Filter with SynthaFlow® technology. SynthaFlow® is a synthetic nano-fiber material that traps the smallest dirt particles down to 2 microns in size that ordinary cotton-gauze "performance" filters just can't capture. And best of all Airaid Premium Filters are washable and re-usable saving you money.

Required Upgrade. Installation of this Cold Air Intake will require the use of a Mustang Handheld Tuner to reprogram the vehicles computer (ECU) for operation.

Application. This Airaid Race Cold Air Intake kit is specifically designed for use on the 2005 to 2009 GT Mustangs equipped with the 3V 4.6L engine. A computer re-tune is required for operation.

Can this CAI be tuned with the older SCT handheld alone or does it need to be put on a Dyno as well ? If not the older sct-3 will the new Bama X4 handheld alone be sufficient enough by itself or would I have to have it done on a Dyno as well with the handheld tuner?

    Mike

I still have this CAI on my 3v , I just recently got a 5.0 engine ! Please tell me this will be compatible if the throttle boy os the same size ! I'd hate to have to buy another one !

    MauriceP

    • The Airaid Race MXP Series Cold Air Intake will not be compatible with 5.0L engines, as the 5.0L uses a round throttle body, as opposed to the 4.6L 3v's oval throttle body. Additionally some bends will differ as well as MAF housing size.

What is the difference between the dry filter and the oiled filter

    Mike

    • The Airaid Race MXP Series Cold Air Intake features an oiled filter. An oiled filter is better for a daily driver and streetcar because the oil helps to catch debris before they enter the intake tube. A dry filter is not oiled at all so it allows the maximum amount of airflow to get through. This is better for racing applications.

I currently have a Ford Racing shaker installed on my 08 GT but have been looking for a CAI to replace the factory airbox that the shaker currently breathes through. I noted one customer who bought this intake made a notch in the heat-shield to route the piping for the shaker through. With a proper seal, would this compromise the effectiveness of the heat-shield, or would the cold air from the shaker compensate for any potential loss of shielding?

    ReeveW

    • The Airaid Race MXP Series Cold Air Intake w/ SynthaFlow Oiled Filter will fit just fine with a shaker system installed and will not require you to trim a heat shield, however you may need to slightly trim the plastic cover for the shaker system, but it will not effect performance.

Can I tune this cai with my DIABLO SPORT INTUNE I2?

    tims

    • This Airaid Race MXP Series Cold Air Intake requires a custom tune and the Diablosport inTune i2 Tuner, item 390009 does not have custom tunes - they only have "off-the-shelf" tunes. Attached below are a few tuners that offer custom tunes that would work with this intake: Bama Rev-X Tuner by SCT - item 39360G05 https://www.americanmuscle.com/bama-revx-tuner-sct-2customtunes-0510gt.html Bama X4/SF4 Power Flash Tuner - item 101200G05 https://www.americanmuscle.com/x4-custom-tuner-0510gt.html Bama iTSX Wireless Tuner - item 38029G05 https://www.americanmuscle.com/itsx-tuner-0510gt.html

      Fantastic CAI

This CAI took me about 30mins to install, about 40mins with the tune. Super straight forward. 91 octane performance tune (no 93 octane in Oregon :'[ Great improvement on throttle response and gave her a deeper throaty growl at higher RPMs, little quieter at the low end. Slightly better gas milage, expected less so that's a plus.

Great product. Went on very nice, and paired with the Bama RevX tuner, added a noticeable amount of HP and torque. Only complaint would be that one of the holes in the CAD was offset and I had to drill it out a little to make the filter adapter fit correctly. Other then that great product. Would definitely recommend.

      Airaid MXP Cold Air Intake

Step by step instructions made this simple to install and to remove the factory box. It looks good and this along with a Bama tuner really makes a difference. This is the best mod so far that I have done.

      Race CAI with Bama tuner

'07 Mustang GT owner. Easy, clean install. It took a little longer than advertised but I am meticulous so that was expected. I then installed the 93 Race tune with the Bama tuner I purchased from AM. The car runs great with no error indicators in the ECU. Perfect. I would gladly recommend the purchase of these devices to anyone.

      Great

I have almost no mechanic skills. Installed airaid mxp CAI, gms twin 62mm TB and bama tune at the same time. CAI has step by step instructions with pictures. I followed them and installed it easily in an hour bc I took my time if I knew what I was doing, I could have done it in 30 minutes. When I first opened the box and saw all the pieces I almost panicked, but it was easy to install. I have nothing else done to my car. There is almost no change in sound at idle. When going down the road pressing the gas you hear the intake suck air and then the engine opens up. It just sounds healthy. It pulls harder from 1500-6500 rpm.

      Great improvement

The airaid race cold air intake is simply badass. I looked at every cai on the market but decided on this one. I am sooo happy that i did. Combined with a bama tune it is awesome! I have the sr performance throttle body and it took some elbow grease to get it on the TB but after a bit of wiggling it went on no problem. Be sure to have an allen wrench set as the screws they provide are allen head. I have the borla atak with x-pipe also and i will say what a combination! Sounds Amazing. Took about an hour and a half or less. Simple straight forward install. Love it!!! Another great offering from AMERICAN MUSCLE

      Performance

After I installed the cold air intake and uploaded the tune from BAMA Performance I noticed a big gain in horsepower right away. I would highly recommend this cold air intake to anyone who is looking to draw a lot of horsepower out of their 4.6L V8.

      Great upgrade

After buying my stage 2 clutch my first bolt on was the air raid very noticeable difference increasing hp and tq but required tune so look at either buying your own or getting a tune from the shop. Just look at spending a bit more than anticipated save up your money get this air raid and possibly get a tuner is the best bet
