    Review & Installation Video

Hey everyone I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com and I’m taking a detailed look into Airaid’s Race cold air intake system for all 05-09 Mustang GTs. This kit is designed to give your Mustang a serious boost in performance when paired with a tune, by giving you maximum air flow, which translates into more horse power, more torque, and improved fuel efficiency. The kit comes with everything you need including the intake tube itself, heat shield, washable high flow filter, and all coppers and hardware. Now the tube, and the shield are made from a durable high intensity polyethylene which makes it less susceptible to heat soak, allowing for cooler, more dense air to be drawn into your engine. It also makes for a sleeker appearance under the hood as well. But enough with all the technical talk already we’re here to see how much power this intake is going to put down, but before we go bolting everything up, we need to get a baseline number from our 2006 GT back there. So in stock form our GT put down a total of 269 horse power, and 296 ft/lbs of torque. Now let’s get that stock airbox out of there and install our Airaid intake, which should take you no longer than an hour using standard hand tools. As we mentioned earlier, in order to run this race intake from Airaid, you will need to pair it with a performance tune, we’re going to upload our custom 93 octane Bama tune which is going to optimize your spark timing, adjust your variable cam timing, perfect those air/fuel ratios, and give you drastically improved throttle response. So with all that done and our intake installed lets turn the roller one more time, and see the improvement this intake made on our GT. Our Airaid equipped GT made a total of 296 horse power, and 313 ft/lbs of torque, making for a peak gain of 27 horse power over our baseline numbers, and a gain of 35 horse power, and 30 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. So if you and your Mustang are on the endless quest for maximum horse power and you either have a tuner, or plan on getting one in the near future, then you’ll definitely enjoy the gains you see from this race intake from Airaid.

Increase Horsepower and Torque. Airaid Race Cold Air Intake Systems are computer designed to give your engine maximum air flow, which translates into more horsepower, torque and improved fuel efficiency. Airaid Race intakes are dyno tested and tuned for maximum performance and efficiency.

Superior Filtration. This cold air intake not only improves horsepower, but it also provides superior air filtration, since it includes an Airaid Premium Filter with SynthaFlow® technology. SynthaFlow® is a synthetic nano-fiber material that traps the smallest dirt particles down to 2 microns in size that ordinary cotton-gauze "performance" filters just can't capture. And best of all Airaid Premium Filters are washable and re-usable saving you money.

Required Upgrade. Installation of this Cold Air Intake will require the use of a Mustang Handheld Tuner to reprogram the vehicles computer (ECU) for operation.

Application. This Airaid Race Cold Air Intake kit is specifically designed for use on the 2005 to 2009 GT Mustangs equipped with the 3V 4.6L engine. A computer re-tune is required for operation.

Will the boot fit on aftermarket (Twin 62mm) Throttle bodies? If not is there a way to order one that comes with a boot that will?

    • The Airaid Race MXP Series Cold Air Intake comes with a rubber coupler which is able to be manipulated to fit a range of different size throttle bodies.

If I bought the SCT SF4/X4 Power Flash Tuner (https://www.americanmuscle.com/sct-sf4-x4-tuner.html) does it come "pre-loaded" with the tune for this CAI, or would I need a custom tune via BAMA, Lund, Brenspeed, Etc?

    • The SCT X4 tuner would come with a preloaded tune that is compatible with all aftermarket cold air intakes. However, if you wanted to get the best out of this upgrade along with other performance parts, we would recommend a tune that includes custom tunes like the Bama, Lund, etc. to get the maximum gains.

I requested for the tune for this intake. Can I use the intake for the meanwhile until i receive the tune for it ?

    • It is highly recommended to not run your Mustang until you have both the intake and tune installed, as your Mustang will not run properly or at all without the proper tuning.

How much is the hand held tuner . And is it hard to tune cane anyone do it

    • I have a great tuner for you here the Bama X4/SF4 tuner for $399.00. The tuning process should be easy enough for anyone to understand as this has a great user friendly interface. You can find that here: https://www.americanmuscle.com/x4-custom-tuner-0510gt.html

Will the tune require me to run on higher octane gas or is there an 87 tune available? My mustang is a daily driver and I can't afford to run on premium.

    • No, you will not need to run a higher octane gas for the tune. You will be able to request an 87 octane tune specific for your Mustangs modifications.

Can this CAI be tuned with the older SCT handheld alone or does it need to be put on a Dyno as well ? If not the older sct-3 will the new Bama X4 handheld alone be sufficient enough by itself or would I have to have it done on a Dyno as well with the handheld tuner? 1 answer

I currently have a Ford Racing shaker installed on my 08 GT but have been looking for a CAI to replace the factory airbox that the shaker currently breathes through. I noted one customer who bought this intake made a notch in the heat-shield to route the piping for the shaker through. I already have a bama 93oct racing tune installed on my 05 gt. Will this part actually give up to 35 more HP when tuned to my current build? I plan on purchasing this for my 2006 gt, question is: have stock air filter housing, which was placed back on prior to me purchasing recently ( thinking CAI was on from previous owner, bottom of air box missing), dealer had to retune. The predicament is that is has the Fang performance shaker kit (hood funnels air to top of air filter location). If I purchase this CAI along with a tuner, what happens when driving and the shaker unit will push more air into top of open filter, do you retune after driving, as this may change, any advice would be appreciated, helping me to make correct choice? 1 answer

      Just wow!!

I bought this with the Bama X4 tuner and had 91 and 93 tunes created. Install was straightforward and easy, and I loaded the 91 tune to start. The throttle response is amazing! I'm old school, my other muscle cars have all been 60's or early 70's. One of the thing I have missed in the Mustang is the howl you get from a V8 with a 4 barrel Carb. With this CAI, and the tune, the howl is there! I love it!

      Performance Gains Unreal!

Installed this product last week with a BAMA SX4 Tune, and WOW did she open up! The torque gains were unreal. Tires chirped in not only 2nd gear, but 3rd at about 50/55mph as well (Quick chirp). A huge difference over my otherwise stock 2006GT. I'm extremely pleased with this mod. Easy, quick installation, and again the gains were unreal. If you're looking for a quick pick me up, I would highly recommend this item!

      Fantastic CAI

This CAI took me about 30mins to install, about 40mins with the tune. Super straight forward. 91 octane performance tune (no 93 octane in Oregon :'[ Great improvement on throttle response and gave her a deeper throaty growl at higher RPMs, little quieter at the low end. Slightly better gas milage, expected less so that's a plus.

Great product. Went on very nice, and paired with the Bama RevX tuner, added a noticeable amount of HP and torque. Only complaint would be that one of the holes in the CAD was offset and I had to drill it out a little to make the filter adapter fit correctly. Other then that great product. Would definitely recommend.

      Race CAI with Bama tuner

'07 Mustang GT owner. Easy, clean install. It took a little longer than advertised but I am meticulous so that was expected. I then installed the 93 Race tune with the Bama tuner I purchased from AM. The car runs great with no error indicators in the ECU. Perfect. I would gladly recommend the purchase of these devices to anyone.

      Great

I have almost no mechanic skills. Installed airaid mxp CAI, gms twin 62mm TB and bama tune at the same time. CAI has step by step instructions with pictures. I followed them and installed it easily in an hour bc I took my time if I knew what I was doing, I could have done it in 30 minutes. When I first opened the box and saw all the pieces I almost panicked, but it was easy to install. I have nothing else done to my car. There is almost no change in sound at idle. When going down the road pressing the gas you hear the intake suck air and then the engine opens up. It just sounds healthy. It pulls harder from 1500-6500 rpm.

      Great improvement

The airaid race cold air intake is simply badass. I looked at every cai on the market but decided on this one. I am sooo happy that i did. Combined with a bama tune it is awesome! I have the sr performance throttle body and it took some elbow grease to get it on the TB but after a bit of wiggling it went on no problem. Be sure to have an allen wrench set as the screws they provide are allen head. I have the borla atak with x-pipe also and i will say what a combination! Sounds Amazing. Took about an hour and a half or less. Simple straight forward install. Love it!!! Another great offering from AMERICAN MUSCLE
