    Review & Installation Video

    Review & Install Video

Hey guys, Alex from americanmuscle.com, and today I'm bringing you my quick review and breakdown of the SR Performance Aluminum Cold Air Intake in black, fitting the 2005 through 2009 Mustang GT. So In this video, I'm gonna talk about who this kit's going to appeal to. The construction and materials that went into this. What you should be expecting in terms of performance. What you should expect to be spending, and then we'll take a very quick look at what's entailed to get this installed. Where I'm gonna be giving this a very easy one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and about an hours worth of labor, but I'll have a little bit more for you on that later. So the SR cold intake that I have here today should definitely appeal to any three-valve GT owner out there that no matter your intentions or what you're doing with your car, be it having just the more improved daily driver, weekend warrior, or a show car. This is definitely gonna appeal to you or any Mustang owner out there that's looking to improve your throttle response, horsepower, and torque, all while making it look that much cleaner under your hood. So not only is this gonna be a great mod for some of the aforementioned reasons here, but this is hands down one of the first modifications that most if not all car enthusiasts should throw into their car, as it's again gonna help throttle response, torque, as well as horsepower. But something that I really like about this kit is the fact that it's not gonna require a custom tune or a handheld tuner. And that's gonna be due to the fact that this sleeve right here, or essentially where your map goes is gonna be fooling your engine computer from throwing any type of codes. All right guys, so taking a look at the construction and materials here. It was evident right out of the box. This is definitely a very well-built kit despite this being a very bargain friendly option. Now, we're gonna see that this is gonna be manufactured out of aluminum which is then gonna be hit with a black wrinkle coat finish. Which is a little bit tough to see based on where you're watching this from, but it's honestly something that's very sharp. This is going to come included with absolutely everything to get this onto your car. Including the couplers, even your filter right here which I might add that this is going to be a washable and reusable option. So when it comes time, and it's a little bit on the dirty side, simply pull it out, give it a little bath, throw it back in, and you're good to go. Now one thing that I do want to mention is that with an aluminum intake in comparison to a roto-molded plastic style, it's not gonna yield as high horsepower numbers as what you might find with a plastic, and that's gonna be due to metal contracting and expanding when it heats and cools. Now at the end of the day with a three-valve GT, I would expect to be picking up high to single high numbers here. But if you're really looking to maximize your gains, I might suggest pairing this with a handheld tuner as it will yield that much more horsepower. All right guys, so in terms of the pricing here, you should expect to be spending only about 200 bucks for this kit. Which in my opinion is very aggressively priced, and is gonna be somewhat for the budget minded person out there that doesn't wanna spend an arm and a leg on a cold air intake. Now on the flip side here, if you're gonna be looking at some of the other options on the website, you're gonna see that their pricing can and will fluctuate a lot. It's gonna be based on the brand, the materials, as well as what kind of filter it's gonna come with. But at the end of the day, I really think this is gonna be a great investment for someone that's looking to pick up a little bit of horsepower, torque, throttle response, as well as make their factory intake look that much better. Okay guys, so switching gears to the installation portion of the video. Just like I had said up top. You're gonna be looking at a very straight forward one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and about an hours worth of labor to get this onto your car. Now the ease of installation is definitely a huge selling point for me, as it should be for any motorhead out there. As it doesn't matter if you're a novice wrencher, or if you're a very experienced backyard mechanic, you're not looking at anything nuts to get this on. I suggest having a full socket set, a little bit of patience, and maybe a six-pack of beer. Now I do want to mention that this is gonna be a quick glance at what's entailed to get this installed onto your GT. A couple steps might be missing, but you're gonna have a very solid set of install instructions to help you get this onto your car. But to start, you're gonna need to pull your negative battery terminal, pull a couple breather hoses and clamps from your throttle body, and then start working down to your air filter or air box portion on the car. So once you're down to your air box, you're simply gonna pull the 10-millimeter bolts, work back up to your master flow sensor. Carefully remove that, as if it's damaged, you're not gonna be a happy camper. And once everything's out, it's gonna be as simple as throwing everything back together in your car. And again, very simple one out of three in the difficulty meter. Probably around an hour to get this onto your car. All right guys, so just to wrap things up here, some final thoughts. I definitely like this option from SR based on the fact that this will be one of the most budget-friendly options that we carry on the website. Not only that, it's gonna look great under the hood, help you pick up a couple horsepower and improve your throttle response, and even make a little bit more noise under the hood. So that's my quick review and breakdown of the SR Performance Aluminum Cold Air Intake in black fitting your 2005 through 2009 Mustang GT. Available right here at americanmuscle.com

Improves Horsepower. This SR Performance Cold Air Intake kit completely replaces your GT Mustangs restrictive stock air box and paper filter element with a high flow filter assembly for a noticeable increase in horsepower and acceleration while providing filtration of harmful power robbing dust particles. The SR Performance CAI improves the airflow path into your engine creating more power.

No Tune Required. Unlike other Cold Air Intakes on the market for the 2005-2009 GT mustangs this SR Performance CAI does not require a computer re-tune. The engineers at SR Performance really did their homework to improve your pony's power using the stock tune.

Reusable Filter. Included in this kit is a SR Performance High Flow reusable air filter. So there is no need to go out and buy a new filter every few thousand miles. Just clean the filter, re-oil it, save money, and go.

Black Wrinkle Coat Finish. The SR Performance Cold Air Intake not only improves your pony's horsepower and acceleration, but improves your Mustang's under hood appearance with an aggressive baked on black wrinkle powder coat finish.

Easy Install. The SR Performance Cold Air Intake kit is designed to install easily with basic hand tools. No extra modifications or special tools are required for the installation. All parts and instructions are included.

Application. This SR Performance Cold Air Intake System is specifically designed to fit the 2005 to 2009 GT and Bullitt Mustangs equipped with the 4.6L engine and does not require re-tuning the vehicles computer for operation.

What is everyone using for their pcv hose , as it’s to short to connect to the intake. I have a bank 1 and bank 2 running lean code and I believe it’s coming from my dry rotted/ tapped up to make longer pcv hose.

    • The SR Performance Aluminum Cold Air Intake will include a section of hose for applications requiring a longer PCV hose. If your kit did not include this, please contact our Customer Service department so that we may assist you with this further.

Do I need to disconnect the vehicle's negative battery cable before installation having in mind there will be no extra computer tunes applicable?

    • You would not need to disconnect the battery when installing this intake. However anytime working under the hood, would not be a bad thing to disconnect he battery.

05 mustang Gt: My engine light came on after install and driving a few miles. I disconnected the battery and the light went off, but it’s back on again. Any ideas?

    • Hello, LeighGT5U3920574 when something like this occurs what I would recommend would be to check all of your connections and get the check engine light read.

      SR cold air intake

Directions could have been a little better written. Pictures were not a help, and the original PVC tube did not fit, had to buy a part and rig it so it would work. Was not hard to get out and in, but better directions would have helped.

      Takes some time

There wasn't really room for the heat shield, not to mention the screws that came with it didn't fit into the frame and the frame screws were too big for the shield. Had to drill into the heat shield. The intake sensors didn't fit properly, but with all that said it looks great under the hood! I've had it there for a few months now and haven't had any problems, the install just takes some time. I'd recommend listening to your favorite football team play with a cold one to ease the stress. It is one of the cheaper options so if you are looking for an easier install with more performance, go for the more expensive intakes. Also not much performance noticed, but that's expected without a proper tune.

      No good

I bought it because I was on a budget, and got what I paid for. Fit was good, but it is going to need a tune. Plus the PVC hose won't fit so you have to make a new one your self. Also kept throwing a lean code. Spend the extra money and get a better one.

      No SCT available.

This will work without a tune which is just as well since the SCT X4 doesn't provide one! Perhaps if you have a SCT with BAMA you might get some kind of tune option - but who would choose BAMA tunes over SCT when buying a SCT X4?

2006 GT SR Cold Air Intake

Installed using the printed instructions, bit brief on the information, does not mention the bracket at the bottom of the shield, the other end mounts to the anti-lock brake bracket bolt. The other issue is the breather port is not 90* to the throttle body so the stock 06 hose is short. Drive ability improved greatly, much better throttle response. Only other mod is axle back exhaust.

      Better than you would think!

First off it looks great under the hood. The fit would have been perfect but the port on the left where the pcv connects to is to far up for my stock pcv so I had to buy a new longer one which was 30 bucks. Other than that is gave me a boost in throttle response. My stang would take off at the slightest tap of the gas. It also sound a little better. I only notice gains in the lower rpm range. From a dig it throws you back but from a roll didn't feel it as much. I did a review and a bbk intake and if you arent going with a tune I definitely recommend this one its better for your dollar.

      Pretty decent improvement!

1st and foremost, the CAI by SR is D efinetly affordable and doesn't require a tune upfront. I chose a no tune due to doing a Lot of other mods to the car and get it all done at once. The install was fairly simple. If u have OCD like I do, it'll take u little longer :) the only problem I ran into was that my factory vacuum line wasn't long enough. It was either make it fit or improvise. IMPROVISE IT WAS; MEANING.....use of my own hose. I did see a slight improvement with throttle response, shifting felt a little more tamed(maybe it's me) I have the axle back PYPES H pipe exhaust and it seems quieter at idle but once the pedal goes down, SHES ALIVE!! Overall, I love it! Bout 1hr install...only due to my OCD

You get what you pay for

Cheaply made will trigger check engine light and car to run lean. Have had it under a year and it's causing rough idle issues. Dealership said I need to go back to stock cold air intake or get a better quality after market cold air intake to fix rough idle issues. I just ordered the k and n typhoon hoping that one has better construction and fixes the check engine light problem.
