    Review & Install Video

Hey, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I'm going to be taking a closer look at BBK's long tube headers, available in either ceramic or chrome for all 2011 and newer Mustang GTs. Simply put, long tube headers are designed to completely replace your restrictive factory manifolds, which can really choke out the flow of exhaust. Long tube headers paired with an aftermarket Mid Pipe and exhaust will make for a very free-flowing setup that should give you a nice bump in both power and sound. As far as price is concerned, you'll find these long tubes from BBK to be right in the middle of the road. Now as far as construction is concerned, you'll see some slight similarities with the BBK and the Pype's long tube headers. They both share Mandrel-bent long straight runners, which is going to be great for top-end power, however the BBK features a 1-and-3/4 inch Mandrel-bent tubing, whereas the Pype's offer a 1-and-5/8ths inch Mandrel bent tubing, so you are getting larger diameter tubing with the BBK and the option to go with the ceramic coating as well. That ceramic coating is going to offer a couple of different benefits, first of which is performance. Ceramic dissipates heat a lot better than a raw stainless or chrome-plated header, so it's going to have a slight edge performance-wise, and should help keep under-the-hood temps down as well. Now the chrome option will be less expensive, and it won't dissipate heat quite as well as a ceramic coating, but one thing's for sure, that chrome finish is really going to pop under the hood. In addition to the different finish options available with the BBK headers, you'll also enjoy a perfect fit, thanks to the laser-cut flanges and quality welds that will help prevent any premature failure down the road. Installing any set of long tube headers can be a little intense, so if you don't think you have the mechanical skills to get the job done, then I would leave this one up to the professionals. However, if you are going to tackle the job, just leave yourself a full day, just to be safe. Keep in mind, whenever you run a set of long tubes like these BBKs, you will need to address your Mid Pipe. In this case, you'll need to run a flanged and shorty Mid Pipe to get everything bolted up properly. Now BBK recommends their shorty X-Pipe just for best fit and performance gains. So if you're looking for a quality set of long tubes with a number of different benefits and the option of a chrome or ceramic finish, you might want to check out these long tubes from BBK for your coyote Mustang.

More Horsepower and Torque. Improve the performance of your 5.0L Coyote Engine with a set of BBK Long Tube Headers. These BBK Ceramic Coated Headers will greatly improve your mustangs exhaust flow over the restrictive stock manifolds and increase your Pony's horsepower and torque. Significant increases in rear wheel horsepower have been seen when installed with a matching BBK Shorty X pipe or Midpipe Adapter.

Silver Ceramic Coating. These Long Tube Headers are completed in BBK's Polished Silver Ceramic Coating that not only looks great, but reduce under hood temperatures to help increase horsepower and extend the life of the headers. Ceramic Coated headers will long out last both chrome plated and polished headers.

Quality Construction. BBK Long Tube Exhaust headers are manufactured from 1-3/4" CNC mandrel bent tubing for unrestricted airflow. And feature one piece laser cut 3/8" header flanges for added strength, leak-free performance and OEM fit. These headers are then completed in a polished ceramic finish for good looks and to lower under hood temperatures.

Recommended Upgrade. To realize the full power potential that these Long Tube Headers have to offer, AmericanMuscle recommends a custom tune with a Mustang Handheld Tuner to reprogram the vehicles computer (ECU) for proper operation.

Additional Required S550 Upgrades. Installation of these BBK Long Tube Headers on a 2015-2017 S550 Mustang will require the use of a set of BBK Long Tube Header Adapter Mid-Pipes part# 1816 or 18160 and an O2 Extension Harnesses and Hardware Kit part# 16332. Please see options listed above.

Application. These BBK 1-3/4" Ceramic Coated Long Tube Headers are specifically designed to fit the 2011-2017 GT Mustangs equipped with the Coyote 4 valve 5.0L V8 engine.

Application Note. BBK Long Tube Headers require the use of a BBK Shorty Midpipe, part# 1655 or 1658, for 2011-2014 GT or the BBK Long Tube Header Adapter Mid-Pipes part# 1816 or 18160, for the 2015-2017 GT for proper installation. These Headers are intended for left hand drive applications only.

Technical notes. Not legal for use on pollution controlled motor vehicles; intended for off road use only.

I am debating on getting these and a catted mid pipe, but am worried about NJ state inspection. Will it pass with this?

    • We do apologize but each state will have their own inspection rules. Generally, the rule of thumb is if it has cats you are okay with emissions. However, you will need to check with your local inspections center to see if these will pass your state's laws.

I got this bbk lt headers with off road x pipe, will this headers bolt up directly to the factory exhaust? The reason im asking is that im getting Solo street race XV catback exhaust and those have the same factory bolt up connection

    • This set up will bolt up to the factory exhaust yes.

I have been doing some research on the BBK Long tubes and I'm trying to figure out if these will hang below the frame rails? Some say yes and some say no. I'm wondering if they do - what is involved in tucking these back up?

    • The BBK 1-3/4 in. Ceramic Long Tube Headers will hang low. Unfortunately this is a part of their design, and cannot be changed. A view of how they sit installed is linked below. https://acdn.americanmuscle.com/i/20140701120146_1010.jpg

Will it fit with the Flowmaster outlaw catback exhaust? I have a 2015 GT

    • The BBK 1-3/4 in. Ceramic Long Tube Headers do not connect to the cat back, They connects to the mid pipe such as an x-pipe or h-pipe. We recommend the BBK Cut and Clamp Resonator Delete X-Pipe Part #389772.

My current exhaust set up is Pypes off-road x pipe and Roush axle backs. Will these bbk headers work with my set up or will I have to buy a new mid pipe?

    • It can be tricky at times when you are mixing aftermarket exhaust parts and different manufacturers. It may be possible, but we can not guarantee fitment.

      You won't be disappointed

Pair these longtubes with an offroad x pipe and it will scream. If you want a loud car then these are perfect. At around 4k rpm you have to start covering your ears if you're standing right next to it because it's that loud. Not disappointed.

      Just installed these..

OK. First of all I'm 65. I've worked on cars since I was 14. I did this install myself on jack stands. Took me the better of 5 days working only 2-3 hours a day on them. Could've been done on a weekend if I had the time. I watched a few videos of the install but the instructions on the BBK website were the best. Milwaukee cordless right angle impact wrench will save you hours of work. I had all the tools already but you do need a torx bit and torx socket. They sound great! I'm running a magnaflow street catback. Nice in town but aggressive on demand. Small hands are helpful. Enjoy my friends!

Love them, but huge P.I.T.A. to install.

Fitment is great, sound is great, can't really rate power yet, as it was raining when I finished installing. You are going to need to disconnect the steering, remove the passenger side motor mount cradle, remove the starter, and possible loosen the actual passenger side motor mount itself (Only if you reuse stock header studs). You actually dont have to remove your catback, but loosening the mounts would be helpful. Having a buddy to help is highly recommended.

      Excellent!

I bought the stainless steel long tube headers from BBK along with the catted x and the quality and fitment were perfect. I read some comments in forums which said you would not notice much of a difference in sound or power from long tubes but they couldn't be more wrong. My car is nasty now--very loud and feels much more powerful. I have roush axlebacks and a bama tune ( had both before headers)--the lth's and catted x have brought them up to another level. I was told there was plenty of clearance with starter and steering shaft, and install overall was straightforward(just a lot of work).

Great fit and quality. Took 3.5 to install on car lift. Was no instructions in box was found on there site. For 2015 GT o2 ext that came with headers do not fit car, I ordered ext at same time and they fit and rear are long enough. Sound is louder and more crisp, have flowmaster x pipe stock mufflers and is loud, also have outlaws when going to meets they wake the dead.

The power is everything u expect and want from a set of Longtubes not to mention the constant grin that will be stuck on ur face when ur doing gear pulls.

Lots of noise (in a good way)!!

Wow do these headers add some noise and pep to my S550's step. They sound great at low RPM, scream when you stomp on the gas, and have a calm noise doing highway speeds. I would even say they are just as quiet in 6th gear as my stock headers. The only down side is you neighbors might hate you in the mornings when you cold start you car in the garage. I had a local Mustang shop/tuner install them and do a Dyno tune all in one go so install cost was high but I trust the shop to do it right.

      Sounds great.

After install it was a totally different car. Paired with bbk off road x pipe and roush axlebacks and it sounded like a mustang should. Giving it 4 stars because shortly after I've got a CEL for up stream sensor for 02. Swap it to the driver side and the code followed. Replaced with 3 Motorcraft 02 sensors and still won't go away. The symptoms of a bad 02 sensor are present. Poor fuel, sometimes hesitates at lower rpms. Etc

      BBK Ceramic Headers

Great headers for the money spent, BBK is an all time favorite for most mustang owners and gives the iconic V8 sound everyone looks for. Catless is quite loud in my opinion so I put Magnaflow original 40's and sounds great with the X-pipe and shop install was 7.5 hours and just under 950 dollars. The fitment was perfect but under the car they hang a little lower than the frame so if you plan on lowering your car be careful because they'll scrape over big speed bumps or high driveways.

      Long tube Headers

these were not very fun to install, you will need a lift a good amount of tools, and quite a bit of spare time. we had to disconnect the a/c lines, and remove some motor mounts in order to gain access to the bolts. But once they are on they really open up the sound of the motor.

      Long Tubes

These headers were very nice, came in an alright package, but got the job done. Installing them was hard or tricky except for two bolts upfront on the passenger side, other than that they went in easy. Ive got borla atak cat back system, and with these headers my car is now insanely loud and i love it. No drone or anything, quiet when you want it to be, but step on that pedal and you will have others plugging their ears lol!!

THINK TWICE BEFORE PUTTING THEM ON

I HAD THESE INSTALLED BY A SHOP THAT SPECIALIZES IN INSTALLING HEADERS ON MY 2011 MUSTANG GT AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH CHECK ENGINE CODES. FIRST IT WAS THE CODE BECAUSE OF THE HIGH FLOW CATS. I GOT A TUNE DONE AND IT WORKED FINE FOR 3 DAYS, NOW I'M GETTING ALL KINDS OF CODES FROM 02 SENSOR TO MISFIRES. IT'S GOTTEN SO BAD THAT IF I CAN'T GET IT STRAIGHTENED OUT SOON, I'M GOING TO HAVE THE FACTORY EXHAUST PUT BACK ON THE CAR, AND THEN, SELL IT.
