AM service is the best-the wheels not so much
I loved these wheels when they arrived last June. I ordered a staggered set up, with 18X9 in the front and 18X10 in the rear. My black Mustang NEEDS these wheels! They absolutely transform the look of the car. I wrapped them with summer only performance tires and put them in storage come October. I pulled them out this spring, and the machine faces were all pitted. They look bad, but worse than that, you can't even try to polish them up, because they are not polished- they are machined. Once the aluminum starts to pit, there's nothing you can do.
AM offers a 1 year warranty on the finish, which they honored- took really good care of me. But- the new 18X9 wheels have a different center cap than last year's wheels, and different than the 18X10's. Be aware- if you order a staggered set up like I did, you'll have to order a set of center caps too, if you want them to match. Again, AM took care of me, and sent me a pair of center caps to match.
BUT... when the tire shop installed them with the set of 3/4" lug nuts I ordered for my old set, they did not fit on my car! Apparently, the new 18X9 wheels aren't as thick as last year's model, meaning the lugs bottomed out against the end of the wheel stud before they seated against the face of the rim. The techs at the tire shop compared the 2 wheels and confirmed- where the lug nuts seat against the face of the wheel, the metal is thinner on the new ones, so the lugs never come into contact with the face of the rim.
The fix? Techs at the tire shop cut 1/4" off the end of my wheel studs so the lug nuts would seat against the wheel before they bottomed out against the end of the stud. That's a big deal to me- that the shop had to cut my lug bolts shorter to make these wheels fit on my car.
I give them 4 stars because they look amazing, but it took some "modding" to make them fit, and I know they are going to require constant cleaning and waxing to protect the machined faces from pitting- even in the summer.
