Jake: Jake here for AmericanMuscle. And today I'm taking a look at this rear window louver for 2008 and newer Challengers. It's safe to say that the Challenger is retro styling done well. And what better way to enhance that retro styling than a rear window louver? If you're looking for a way to enhance that classic muscle car styling on your Challenger for affordable price, then this set might just be the right fit for you.Nothing screams and muscle car, quite like some rear window louvers. And Challengers, I think just look really good with these on. Now, this features a pretty classic open design with these five slats and you have these small braces on the sides as well for looks and stability. Now this isn't a huge louver, but so the openings are a bit on the smaller side, but they're not gonna completely kill your rear visibility, which is of course very important.I think it really speaks to that vintage style, something like what you might have found on an original Challenger back in the '70s. Now, this center section here does drop down a little bit, gives it kind of a squared off appearance that I think really works well with these modern Challengers. It's sort of a modern take on that classic louver setup. Now this is also gonna block out a lot of harmful UV rays from your interior, which is gonna keep it protected and looking good for years to come. You're not gonna get that weird discolored parcel tray behind the rear seats. Now, this is of course designed to fit over the entirety of your rear window, covering it completely. You can also remove this however, to keep the window clean. And if you've ever had a rear window louver on a car before, you know that's important because the window gets so dirty under there so quickly. So being able to pop this off is just really handy. You're just gonna undo the nuts at these attachment points. There are actually seven around here, two in the bottom here, two on either side and then three up top. You can just do that and lift it right off. Now, the whole thing is made from injection molded ABS plastic so it's lightweight, it's flexible, and most importantly, it's durable. ABS is known to be very impact resistant and all that means that this is a perfect setup for a daily driver. Now, as you see it here is as it came outta the box. So this comes unpainted in this sort of matte black finish. Now, you could of course mount this up as it is if you wish, but you do also have the option of painting these and that is the intention here. So if you want to go for that color match look, or if you want do this in, say, gloss black, it's designed to be painted as well. Or again, you can just mount it right as it comes.Coming in around $250, I think this is a really expensive setup that still looks great. The material is of good quality, it mounts up easily and is compared to other rear louvers, you could easily spend much more. And this is gonna give you more of that classic look right out of the box, whether you paint it or not, you always have the option to do so. Now keep in mind this isn't aluminum or color matched right out of the gate, of course, but if you're looking for something that looks good and is inexpensive, you really cannot go wrong with this.Installation is also quite simple coming in at a one out of three on our difficulty meter. It should only take you about 30 minutes to get everything done. It mounts with those seven points that I was talking about earlier using these plates, which have a nice piece of foam on it to dampen any vibration here. And you've got double-sided tape already installed on the back of 'em. And these are metal plates too. So this is pretty much a peel and stick operation. You're just gonna clean your window, put this on, and then you can use the included hardware to mount this down and lock it into place. And like I said earlier, this mounts right to your window, so there's no need to mess with anything on the paint either. I would recommend making sure you get that window nice and clean before you mount this up and maybe even put some adhesion promoter on here just to ensure a really good stick. And to show you the install process now, let's throw it over to one of our AM customers.Man: All right. So let's take a look at the tools we're gonna need for this job. We're gonna need a nut driver with an eight-millimeter size socket, some alcohol prep wipes, a shop rag, or shop towel, just make sure that it's lint-free. And plastic soap, and water and a bottle to spray the window down. Now, like I said earlier, the prep of the window with this soap and water and this alcohol pad is gonna be the key to this install. Now to start this install, I'm gonna take each one of these brackets and I'm gonna put it on here to the louvers to get it all matched up, so that when we put it onto the window, everything will be lined up to see where we want it. You only wanna make these hand tight. You're not gonna tighten them down until the end of the install, just because you wanna be able to take this off and press these brackets back down onto the window firmly without the louvers being on them. Now with those slightly hand tight onto the louvers, you can see here how they lined up all around the corners here so that they're not gonna be showing on either side of the louver as you put it on the window. Now, as I said earlier, prepping the window for this install is going to be the key to a successful install. Go ahead and take your shop rag. And you can either spray your water and soap solution onto the window itself, but I'm just gonna spray it here onto the rack and then wipe down the window.Once you have the water and soap solution on, go ahead and take your alcohol pad. Go open that up. And now you're only gonna want to clean about two inches away from the edge of the window. You don't need to clean the whole window with the alcohol, just where the brackets are gonna stick. All right, now it's time to take the backing off of the brackets. To do that, just try to get it on to a little corner here and peel back. Sometimes it might help if you have a pocket knife or a razor blade with you to get the edge started, especially for those of us that don't have fingernails. All right, now that you have those off, you can do this by yourself. However, it does help to have a second person helping you on this. For this, I have my daughter Lele here, and she's gonna help me put this onto the window. You wanna make sure that you're gonna match your lines up, so we're gonna use the top line to match it up.That's all good?Lele: Yup.Man: [Inaudible 00:07:12] Okay?Lele: Yup.Man: Good. And then you're gonna just push down where the bolts are. All right, after you're satisfied with that, what you're gonna do is you're gonna go ahead and you're gonna remove the nuts that you got on here hand tight, and then you're gonna push each individual bracket down by hand. All right. Once you got all the bolts unloosed, you gonna go ahead and push this way up.And now you can proceed to push down all the brackets by hand. After you're satisfied with that, you're gonna go ahead and reinstall the louvers and tighten 'em down. All right. Now, with your nut driver and eight-millimeter socket, you're gonna take these, put 'em on there and you don't wanna go down too tight because it is ABS plastic. You can crack the plastic, So you just want 'em stuck.Jake: That's gonna do it for our review and install of this rear window louver for 2008 and newer Challengers. Thank you so much for watching. And for all things Challenger, be sure to keep it right here @americanmuscle.com.
