    Review & Install Video

Hey, everybody. Justin with AmericanMuscle.com. In this video, I'm going to be taking a closer look at the Ford Racing by Borla Series Catback Exhaust System, available for your 2015 S550 Ford Mustang GT with your choice of either chrome or black tips. Both the touring and sport Catback and Axle-Backs are the result of Ford Racing and Borla teaming up to create some pretty wicked exhaust systems, not only for your S197, but also for your new S550. The Ford Racing by Borla Touring System is going to be the milder of the two offerings from Ford Racing by Borla, the other being the Sport Edition. Now even though both systems do utilize a similar looking chambered muffler, the touring system will utilize a little more baffling in the mufflers themselves, which results in a slightly milder tone. This particular Catback does include two-and-a-half inch mandrel bent tubing, the included X pipe, your touring series mufflers here, and finally, the four-inch black or polished tip. Again, your choice. Now, the entire system has been constructed from 100% stainless steel. And it is worth mentioning that this particular Catback will save you roughly 30 pounds when compared to your factory exhaust which, of course, is never a bad thing. Now either way, if you're not already watching this on the site and you'd like to learn more about this exhaust, well then, just click on the link below to head back to the product page at AmericanMuscle.com. And while you're there, you can read up on some very valuable customer reviews. Getting the Catback installed is a direct bolt-on modification, meaning it should only take you about two hours from start to finish, using basic hand tools and a lift or jack stands. Now, you guys should know by now, if you have any questions whatsoever, whether it's fitment-related or if it's just about the product itself, reach out to our award-winning Ford Mustang experts. They're always standing by, ready to give you a hand or just talk shop. Now it's time to hear the how the Ford Racing by Borla Touring Series Catback sounds compared to our factory exhaust.

Powerful Sound. Add a powerful exhaust tone to your Fastback 2015-2017 GT with a Touring Cat-Back Exhaust System that features a pair of Ford Racing Straight-Through touring mufflers and 4" embossed black exhaust tips. This catback not only sounds great, but also improves exhaust flow with the included X-Pipe for an increase in horsepower and torque.

Race Car Growl. The included X-Pipe not only helps increase power, but it also adds a loud raspy, race car growl to the sound of your exhaust with its modern "X" crossover pipe design.

Borla Stainless Steel Construction. This Touring Cat-Back exhaust system is manufactured especially for Ford Racing by Borla from high quality mandrel bent 2.5" stainless steel tubing and features Straight-Through touring mufflers with 4.0" black stainless tips embossed with the Ford Racing logo. The tips exit in the stock locations so no modifications are required to the rear bumper cover.

Lightweight. This Ford Racing Touring Cat-Back exhaust system is 30 lbs. lighter than the stock Ford catback system, making it perfect for track and drag racers looking to shed unwanted weight in the pursuit of quicker times.

Legendary Ford Racing Quality. When you're adding new parts to your Pony, you can't go wrong by installing parts from the folks that know it best. Ford Racing's legendary quality ensures a perfect fit and years of hassle-free use.

Application. This Ford Racing by Borla Touring Cat-Back Exhaust System is designed as a direct bolt on replacement for the coyote 5.0L powered 2015-2017 GT Fastback and Convertible Mustang for both great looks and great sound.

Technical Note. The Ford Racing Touring Cat-Back is 50 state drive-by noise legal.

Does this exhaust have a true X-pipe? As in the left and right side long pipes are open to each other to equalize the pressure b/t the left/right sides? On other systems like the Magnaflow, it is very obvious that the X-section interconnects the left/ride sides, but on this system it's not obvious from the pictures. Thanks.

    • Hello! On this Ford Performance by Borla Touring Cat-Back Exhaust the x-pipe is a true x-pipe. They are connected and balance out exhaust pressures from both sides while allowing the exhaust to exit quickly and smoothly.

Hi, I currently have a Kooks cat-back w/ H-pipe installed on my GT, but maybe it's too loud? It's sweet, and I love it, but I don't want to make the neighbours hate me (I think they already do)! Maybe I need something a little louder than stock, but not obnoxious. What do you think to switching to the Ford Racing by Borla Touring cat-back? Thanks! 1 answer

      Love it.

Great sound. Perfect fit. Loud when you hit the gas, pretty raspy as well. A little louder than stock at idle. Almost a little too raspy. Has a metallic sound to it. I’d still get it if I had to do it again. I love it. When I get delete my cats, I may have to put some resonators on though.

      Not exactly as expected

I wanted it to be lot more deeper. At 2000 RPM it tops out with a tinny tone that sounds cheap to me. Tone is not deep enough. On a positive note, at idle, you cannot even hear it which is good for my convertable.

      It's just right.

After countless hours of research and videos - I went with the Ford Performance Touring Cat-Back w/Black tips. I'd describe the change as follows; the X-pipe and touring mufflers give the Coyote a "heartbeat" during normal driving (its not obnoxious or overly intrusive), under WOT as the revs climbs so does the song. The black tips look stellar. I'm very happy with the system - its just right.

      One Month Review

I added AirAid cool air intake, BBK 85mm throttle body, oil separator, and this exhaust together. The black tips are pretty. You will not be regret for spending extra $50 for this. About the fit, my shipment has some issue. The right muffler tube was damaged. As result, we have to fix it before installation. The sound is good for city. Not too loud for neighborhood. People talks about the drone after installation. I don't notice any after 2000 rpm. Slightly drone in acceleration, but it was not a big deal. Overall, I like it.

Awesome companion to Cold Air Intake and Bama Tune

Exhaust arrived and very impressed with the quality. The install was very straight forward and did the install in my garage on jack stands. I think it took longer to get the car on the stands then it did to remove stock exhaust and install the new. You definitely need help with getting the old off as it is heavy and bulking for one person to handle. I am very happy with the sound as for my taste it is just right. A little tame until you jump on it then she comes alive. Very, very happy with this and with the KandN Typhoon and Bama tune the performance is killer.

      Borla Touring Cat-Back

Installed this on a convertible on had some issues clearing the sub frame and keeping both exhaust tips uniform. Debated between the S-type and Touring for a long time. Super happy with the exhaust note and volume of this exhaust.

      Very happy with this choice

Like many others who have posted before me I spent countless hours listening to sound clips and reading reviews. At times I waivered between the FPBB Sport and Touring systems but am extremely happy that I chose the Touring. The sounds is amazing, much louder than stock with a nice deep rumble but not so much that I have to worry about getting pulled over all the time. I have a convertible so I wanted a system that was going to be reasonable at normal cruising speeds but that really wakes up when you are on the throttle. The fit finish and overall quality is excellent as you would expect from Borla. Perfect choice and the black tips look great on my Performance Package Stang.

      Even better than expected!

The sound when you first fire it up will make you go back to the packaging, saying "did they send me the Sport by mistake??". The burble at idle is quiet and not too motor-boatish like some systems, but it's louder than I expected above about 4k RPMs - it absolutely screams, with a sort of GT350-esque metallic rasp. It might not be for everyone - it's a little less Mustang and a little more European sports car - but it's just what I wanted and I don't mind the extra volume. It's definitely possible to drive it quietly if you need to. In fact, you will likely get better fuel economy with this system because you can enjoy the V8 sound track without having to get on the throttle or stay in the low gears the way you have to with the stock system. Install was very easy with a buddy, even though we did it with just the back tires up on ramps (plus stands for safety). Clearance was so low I could barely focus my eyes on the bolts when lying on my back lol. Took about 2 hours due to much shimmying around and barely having enough clearance to take out the 1-piece stock exhaust. Speaking of which, that think is HEAVY! Happy to have it off my car. Last thing: the black tips look AWESOME on my black GT Premium with black accent pack. I knew that 4" was larger than the stock size, but in videos the kinda looked the same size as stock. They look significantly bigger in person, but they look great. They still aren't QUITE centered in the valence, but look fine... I'll report back if I have much trouble fixing them.

      Killer

Sounds awesome. Muscle car sound, no drone, won't bother your neighbors. Start up sounds like awakening a beast without being obnoxious. Low speeds you hear a nice rumble, Hit the gas and it transforms into an animal. Downshifts sound superb. Looks awesome. Classy exhaust and a must have upgrade.

Good exhaust, excellent quality, but some drone

The stock exhaust is tame - Borla does a good job of trying to provide the best of both worlds - light throttle, under 1800 rpm, it is very livable and you can squeak by the Man in Blue and get away with it. Punch the throttle and above 2,000 rpm it gets your attention in a good way. So what happens at 1800-2000 rpm? DRONE. Yes, you heard me say it, DRONE with the top up. At low to moderate speeds it's there, but at highway speeds (6th gear, 2000 rpm ~ 70mph) it fills the cabin. I drive a 2016 GT vert, so I know my experience will be different from the fastback guys. Weird part is, that it is almost un-noticeable with the top down. I self-installed, so I took it to my local Ford dealer and they looked at it and said everything was done correctly - I had the aftermarket team on it. Their consensus was that all aftermarket exhausts drone to some degree. Above 2000 rpm it goes away, and is more pleasant. I think I will keep it, I just have to minimize the time spent in the drone-zone of 1900-2000 rpm. If anyone knows of a good shop in the North Houston / Conroe area who can deal with this let me know. I love the looks and the sound overall. And during the install I highly recommend jacking rails for the vert.

Those mufflers will wake your stang. Deep rumble but not so loud that your neighbors know your coming and going unless you're really revving it. I wish I'd done it sooner.

      Nice Growl!

I did a lot of searching to find the one that sounded less loud during daily drive, but growled when I wanted. This still is a bit louder than I would prefer at normal take-offs through first gears...but when I punch it, it makes up for it! ..and the black tips look trick (I did do some high temp paint on the back edge of the muffler and pipe so it was clean looking from the back)!

      Just Right

Like many others, I listened endlessly to sound clips trying to decide which exhaust was best for what I wanted - something louder than stock, but not too outrageous. Now that I have this exhaust mounted and have lived with it a couple weeks, I'd say that I'm happy with my choice. It's a bit bipolar. At idle and cruising on the highway, it is just slightly louder than stock. However, when accelerating, it is really noticeable. I wouldn't want it any louder than this. It isn't what I would call deep bass in tone; maybe mid-bass. Certainly deeper in tone than the stock exhaust. It isn't what I would call "raspy" or "harsh". Nice and refined sounding. I get a (decidedly immature) kick out of revving the engine. There aren't any resonances or "drone" that I have heard in two weeks of varied driving. I painted the stainless parts (mufflers, tubing and clamps) with high-temp flat black spray paint and left the tips gloss black. I'm very happy with the look on my magnetic gray performance pack GT. The shop that installed it took about 45 minutes and they didn't have any problems at all. Everything was lined up perfectly.

      Great Family Friendly

Quiet when you need it but loud when you want it! On red lights you can barely notice, but hit the gas and the prrrr comes out! Not too loud but way better than stock! Buy it if you don't want to get pulled over for being loud or have kids and it's your daily driver.

      Quality

This exhaust was perfect for me. I researched for a couple weeks before committing to frpp borla touring catback. I am very happy with the results. It's exactly as advertised: perfect fit, no cutting, aggressive raspy note on hard throttle, quiet on easy throttle and idle, no drone at all. The best part is it makes manuals more fun to drive due to much less back pressure. Less back pressure= easier shifting and easier throttle modulation. If you want a more aggressive sound without it being loud and obnoxious, this is the exhaust for you. Love it.
