    Review & Install Video

Hey, everybody. Justin with AmericanMuscle.com. In this video, I'm going to be taking a closer look at the Ford Racing by Borla Series Catback Exhaust System, available for your 2015 S550 Ford Mustang GT with your choice of either chrome or black tips. Both the touring and sport Catback and Axle-Backs are the result of Ford Racing and Borla teaming up to create some pretty wicked exhaust systems, not only for your S197, but also for your new S550. The Ford Racing by Borla Touring System is going to be the milder of the two offerings from Ford Racing by Borla, the other being the Sport Edition. Now even though both systems do utilize a similar looking chambered muffler, the touring system will utilize a little more baffling in the mufflers themselves, which results in a slightly milder tone. This particular Catback does include two-and-a-half inch mandrel bent tubing, the included X pipe, your touring series mufflers here, and finally, the four-inch black or polished tip. Again, your choice. Now, the entire system has been constructed from 100% stainless steel. And it is worth mentioning that this particular Catback will save you roughly 30 pounds when compared to your factory exhaust which, of course, is never a bad thing. Now either way, if you're not already watching this on the site and you'd like to learn more about this exhaust, well then, just click on the link below to head back to the product page at AmericanMuscle.com. And while you're there, you can read up on some very valuable customer reviews. Getting the Catback installed is a direct bolt-on modification, meaning it should only take you about two hours from start to finish, using basic hand tools and a lift or jack stands. Now, you guys should know by now, if you have any questions whatsoever, whether it's fitment-related or if it's just about the product itself, reach out to our award-winning Ford Mustang experts. They're always standing by, ready to give you a hand or just talk shop. Now it's time to hear the how the Ford Racing by Borla Touring Series Catback sounds compared to our factory exhaust.

Powerful Sound. Add a powerful exhaust tone to your coyote powered 2015-2017 GT Fastback with a Touring Cat-Back Exhaust System that features a pair of Ford Racing Straight-Through touring mufflers and 4" embossed chrome exhaust tips. This catback not only sounds great, but also improves exhaust flow with the included X-Pipe for an increase in horsepower and torque.

Race Car Growl. The included X-Pipe not only helps increase power, but it also adds a loud raspy, race car growl to the sound of your exhaust with its modern "X" crossover pipe design.

Stainless Steel Construction. This Touring Cat-Back exhaust system is manufactured especially for Ford Racing by Borla from high quality mandrel bent 2.5" stainless steel tubing and features Straight-Through touring mufflers with 4.0" chromed stainless tips embossed with the Ford Racing logo. The tips exit in the stock locations so no modifications are required to the rear bumper cover.

Lightweight. This Ford Racing Touring Cat-Back exhaust system is 30 lbs. lighter than the stock Ford catback system, making it perfect for track and drag racers looking to shed unwanted weight in the pursuit of quicker times.

Legendary Ford Racing Quality. When you're adding new parts to your Pony, you can't go wrong by installing parts from the folks that know it best. Ford Racing's legendary quality ensures a perfect fit and years of hassle-free use.

Application. This Ford Racing by Borla Touring Cat-Back Exhaust System is designed as a direct bolt on replacement for the coyote 5.0L powered 2015-2017 GT Fastback and Convertible Mustang for both great looks and great sound.

Technical Note. The Ford Racing Touring Cat-Back is 50 state drive-by noise legal.

      Easy install with 1 complication

I ordered this set on Wednesday and it arrived on Friday so that's good. The install went well except I didn't understand that the new X-pipe didn't insert into the stock header extension, it just butts up to the extension and is held there by the factory clamps. After 2 calls to american muscle, the problem was resolved and the install went smoothly after that. It sounds great, not loud inside the car but very raspy and growly when accelerating and outside the vehicle. I think the included instructions could be a little more clear but no other complaints. Just to be clear, this was my first attempt at an exhaust swap on any car so it may have been my lack of experience that caused the confusion. Install time was about 2 hours of actual work.

      Great sound

I recently purchased a '17 GT and the factory exhaust just does not do the car justice. I did my research and decided to go with the safe bet of the cat back touring (versus the sport). Although there are times when I wish I had more volume out of the exhaust, it is probably for the best that I didn't (neighbors). The car is plenty loud when you lay into the accelerator, and plenty quiet when idling. Installing the exhaust was relatively straight forward and accomplished by putting the rear wheels on ramps. A few beers and an afternoon later, my Mustang finally had signs of life. On the topic of ordering from AmericanMuscle...I am extremely impressed with their customer service. I ordered the exhaust with the overnight shipping option. I was stoked to see the box when I got home from work, but unfortunately AM had shipped a Borla touring exhaust for an EcoBoost Mustang. Things happened, so I called up AM and explained the situation. They sent out the correct exhaust THAT DAY (it was a Friday) without me even dropping off the EcoBoost exhaust. I was told to drop it at the nearest UPS store at my convenience. I received the exhaust for GT on Saturday and dropped the EcoBoost at UPS the following Monday. What really shocked me was looking at my bank statement about a week or so later...American Muscle had refunded my overnight shipping charge 100, without me asking for it. That is great customer service. They've earned a customer for life.

      Great exhaust

Install took less than an hour, great sounding exhaust. It sounds similar to the Shelby GT350 exhaust note. Not crazy loud but loud when you get on it. Also thanks to AM for shipping it so quick.. ordered on a Sunday night and it arrived Monday at 6 am...

Exactly the amount of volume I need

Really wanted something that was a bit louder, but not obnoxious. This fits the bill exactly. Shouts a bit when on the throttle, but nice and quiet when it needs to be.

      Touring cat back exhaust.

New parts are made well and helped for an easy install. Definitely a two person job to uninstall the stock exhaust. Borla exhaust was easy to adjust. Altogether was about a 2.5 hour job.

      What Mustang Should Sound Like

I spent quite a bit of time reading reviews and watching videos on various exhaust systems, before making a final decision on ordering the Ford Performance by Borla Touring Cat-Back Exhaust. Borla was my first and only choice. Borla had the perfect system for what I believed a Mustang GT should sound like.

Must have exhaust for us "elderly@

Just installed the Ford Racing by Borla Touring CAT Back exhaust on my 2016 GT Convertible and WOW!!! What an awesome sound that now comes from this Coyote!! This truly is a must have for the S550's, as you won't be disappointed. I will say though, be prepared for a considerable amount of dismantling of the rear end if you wish to take the stock exhaust of of a convertible in one piece as the videos for the fastback shows. I chose to cut mine as it was simpler and I wasn't planning on keeping the OEM anyway. Install of the Ford Racing by Borla Touring CAT Back exhaust was a breeze though once the ole was removed (I did have help from a buddy that has a lift) and only took about an hour. Pay careful attention to the spacing between the plate/frame below the differential and the differential/axles to ensure no contact, but it fits just fine and the sound is just incredible! Highly recommended this product as in my opinion, anything with FR and Borla is a win for your mustang!

      Sweet Songs!

I finally stepped up to a REAL V8 2015 Mustang GT. Where were the exhaust tunes from the factory? After comparisons with about every after market exhaust company around, I chose the Ford Performance/Borla Touring Cat Back System. I am SO glad that I did. Mellow growl when I step on the gas, zero drone and a quiet cabin cruising at highways speeds. Ford installed in about an hour or so and a perfect fit! I highly recommend this cat back system.

      5 Star Exhaust

I researched many cat back and axle back systems before deciding to purchase this one. American Muscle install and sound videos were a huge help. Very happy with this exhaust. Sound is a great deep throaty sound. No problem at all to install.

      My ponies are angry!

Got this exhaust installed yesterday and I, along with the ford mechanics, were blown away. If the touring version is the “milder” version, then I would never want the louder version! As it was getting installed I kept thinking to myself, “I probably should have gotten the sport version. Spending $1,500 to get a LITTLE more rumble is kinda dumb”, I was thinking. But it was too late as the touring version was being installed. I’m sooooo happy with this exhaust! Make no mistake, this is how a stock GT Mustang SHOULD sound my friends. The ponies are now angry! Also a very noticeable improvement in power and torque. Even my wife loved it! She said, “now THIS is how a sports car should sound!” PS --- This was installed on a GT convertible, even though the description says it’s only for fastbacks.

      Adult Exhaust

I'm a bit older (38), but I've had mustangs since I was 17. When I was younger I likely would have opted for the sport catback (as loud as possible), but I was looking for an exhaust that was loud when I wanted it to be, but also quiet when I wanted. This exhaust is the perfect blend. At low RPM and on the highway it's subtle and has ZERO DRONE, cabin noise is also near zero. When you open it up during "spirited" driving, it screams. This allows for comfortable drives with the woman anywhere while also providing the noise we love to hear when we get on it. The quality, fit and finish of the exhaust is top notch, excellent. 3hr install solo in my driveway on jack stands with simple hand tools. I assume it will get a little louder after a few heat cycles (all exhausts typically do), but I'm very happy so far. Highly recommend for anyone looking for similar performance.

      Big Improvement over Stock

Just had the Ford Racing Touring Catback installed this morning. The sound is perfect. A little more rumble at idle and cruising but a real growl when accelerating. Makes me want to drive with the windows down. Decent price and free shipping - hard to beat. Ken's Muffler in Dallas installed it in about an hour for $90. One thing they recommended and did. He tack welded all of the joints to prevent anything working loose. Seemed like a good idea.

      A good fit for me

Like everyone else, I wanted a sound that set my car apart from totally stock. But, it's my daily driver and I like my neighbors and I don't feel the need to have something that screams 'oh please won't someone look at me' to people on the next block or at/in my office for that matter. Wish I would have found an H pipe solution that I liked for a deeper sound, but I think this one was a good fit for volume and looks overall. Sometimes it seems too quiet and sometimes it seems too loud but I can keep it quiet enough for the wife to be okay with it when she's in the car. Must be just right. ;^)

      Ford Racing Touring cat back

Had my Ford Racing Touring cat back put on today and love it. A local shop put it on while I waited, was in and out in about 2 hours. Maybe a little over an hour of that was for the exhaust, the rest for other work I was having done. Before tightening the clamps fully, they took me to the shop to see it on the lift to be sure it was the way I wanted it. As in a couple of other reviews, it looked like the driver side tip extended a little more then the passenger side. A few quick tugs with a pry bar and a final check with a tape measure before the final tightening of the clamps and both came out matching perfectly. Had debated between Sport and Touring, since I live in a condo complex and don't want to wake up the neighbors if I come or go late at night. Glad I did, it is fairly quiet at start up and idle, just a little louder than stock but has a much deeper, throatier tone. When driving and holding steady speed it is also fairly quiet with no drone. When you hit the accelerator it comes to life screaming an awesome song but still not quite loud enough to call the police from blocks away. A great balance of nice and nasty. THIS is how a Mustang GT should sound like from the factory!

      Ford Racing!

I had the Ford Racing Sport axle backs on my '12 and it was a loud, but a great sounding, system. This is also a great system. It is louder than I thought it would be but it isn't too loud. I took it on the highway and varied my speed and rpm's and didn't notice any drone. The cabin is quiet while cruising and there is a nice burble when idling. The sound when you accelerate is glorious. It is hard to keep your foot off the gas.

Ford Racing by Borla Touring Catback Exhaust

They Catback exhaust is exactly what I wanted, no drone, not obnoxiously loud, and when cruising barely noticeable. I absolutely love driving my Stang, factory exhaust is ok, but the Ford Racing by Borla is 10 times better. When you hit the gas get ready to hear the roar, you will notice the difference and others will notice too!!!!
