    Review & Installation Video

    Review & Install Video

I’m Justin with, and today I have with me 3 different brake pad options, all from Hawk Performance. We’re looking at the ceramic, the HPS, and the HP+, for both front and rear that will offer a broad range of performance that will suit everything from a bone stock daily driver, to an all out race course monster. Any one of these pads will far outperform your stock pads in just about every way, more braking performance, less fade and dust. However it’s very important you select the right pad for your application, so with that in mind, let’s break these 3 options down a little further. First up is the ceramic option from Hawk. These are going to be an ideal OE replacement and be perfectly suited for any daily driver, they’re going to bite strong without needing to be hot, be very quiet, and offer very minimal dust. This is all thanks to that ceramic compounds, which offers a nice balance between performance and everyday streetability. The next pad, the Hawk HPS will be right in the middle between the ceramics and the HP+ and will be for a daily driver or a weekend warrior, whose car does see a little track time and are just looking for a little bit more bite, and less fade. These pads utilize a therocarbon compound which does benefit from a little heat in order to perform their best but still offer great performance when cold. It is worth pointing out that these pads can be a little noisy when cold, and will definitely put off a little bit more dust than the ceramics, but all around, the HPS are a solid performer. Finally, we have the HP+. These are going to be for someone who subjects their Mustang to road courses and auto crossing where repetitive fade and high heat can kill lesser pads. Can you use these pads on the street? Yes, however, these pads feature a high temperature specific compound with a very high friction coefficient, which means these pads need to be hot and stay hot in order to perform at their best, like on a road course or an auto cross track. Once hot, these HP+ pads will bite hard, and offer great performance with very little fade, these pads tend to be very noisy and put off a good amount of dust, however since they’re geared more towards a race car versus a show car, most folks should be fine with that. Installing these pads from Hawk or any brake pads at that matter is a pretty simple task if you’ve never tackled brakes before. Due to the aggressive compounds of these pads, Hawk included a grease, to be used in conjunction with the included shim located on the back of the pad just to keep the noise level down. It’s very important that you use the grease on the back of the pad and not on the front of the pad, just so you don’t mess up your new brakes. Overall, getting the fronts and rears installed should only take you about 2 hours from start to finish. When it comes down to it, brake pads and tires are 2 of the biggest factors when it comes to helping your car stop faster. So try upgrading your Mustang to a quality pad like one of these Hawk options, and discover the difference in your braking performance.

Superior Stopping Power. Whether you're replacing worn-out stock pads or looking for an inexpensive way to improve your Brembo equipped Mustang's stopping power, Hawk HPS pads are an affordable alternative to a complete brake upgrade. The Hawk HPS pads have a 20-40% better braking and higher resistance to fade than other replacement pads on the market for the stopping power you need, when you need it.

Street/Strip Use. Hawk HPS pads are a great balance of streetability and track performance. They're at their best once they're a little warm, but provide good stopping power even cold so you can drive them on your dual use street and strip 'Stang and still enjoy their performance advantages.

Reduced Brake Fade. If you like to take your Mustang to the track or strip, you know that brake fade is your enemy. Hawk HPS pads are designed to resist fade more than other pads, ensuring consistent braking even when things get hot.

Less Noise & Dust. Hawk uses a unique Ferro-Carbon formula for increased stopping power, low brake dust, and less noise than dedicated race pads.

Application. This set of Hawk HPS Brake Pads are specifically designed to be used on the front of the 2007-2012 Shelby GT500, 2012-2013 Boss 302 and 2011-2014 GT Mustangs equipped with Brembo front calipers. Set includes driver-side and passenger-side brake pads.

      Good braking

Since I only have a couple hundred miles on the car since I installed them I don’t have a long term dependability rating on them. However, all the miles are city and they are pretty quiet, they do brake well when cold and do get better braking after warmed up. There isn’t much brake dust compared to other replacement pads I previously used. Seems legit as far as any advertised advantages from the AM site. Only issue is one of the two wear indicators was knocked off one of the pads during shipping or somewhere before I got them. I’ll just keep an eye on their wear. Of course Brembo pads are easy to replace. No problem there. They fit nicely! Thanks

      Solid Pads

Put these pads on the front of my brembo brake GT along with new stoptech rotors. They have a good cold bite but once they warm up they have a solid even grip and seem to stop the car quicker than stock. Its only been a few miles so I can't say anything about how long they last. On mountain roads they hold up very well and don't show any signs of fade. These are very good daily driver pads.

      Bites harder than OEM Brembos

I purchased these brake pads from doing a lot of online research. I have driven at least 1000 miles now and I have to say that I'm very impressed and happy with this purchase. These pads are well worth the money spent and they bite a lot harder than OEM Brembos that came with my mustang. Perfect for street and possibly track. My setup is michelin pilot super sports and I do have the Brembo Brake Package w/ Hawk HPS Pads. So when I need to stop. It WILL stop your vehicle. Super safe and highly recommend

      Works great

Easy install, excellent fit, came with packet disk quiet. Brakes perform well, little to no fade when driving aggressively, excellent bite in a panic stop.

      Great Pada!

The bite is much quicker, and more predictable with the Hawk HPS pads. I haven't run the car real hard yet, but don't expect any fade issues. I've run Hawk pads when I raced a circle track asphalt modified, and never had any issues with them.

      Excellent product

If you own a 13/14 GT with brembo brakes, you're going to WANT these pads. So after 3,800 miles and 3 track days (admittedly, one of those track days I ran the car hard), my Ford OEM brembo brake pads were toast. Had another track day coming up and so on a Weds, I call up American Muscle and they overnight me a set of the Hawk HPS pads. Installation was fairly straight-forward, though I did have to improvise a bit with the compression of the pistons (used some mini-clamps I purchased from Home Depot. Note, do ONE brake pad side at a time and you'll need two clamps per side!). The pistons were very easy to push back in, but as noted, you'll have to keep one clamped while you compress the other. Ok, so ran these pads on a road course this weekend, hard, five 15-minute sessions and they performed very well. No fade, more bite than OEM pads and very, very little brake dust. After driving home from the race, there was a little bit of pad squeak, but it was temporary, expected, negligible and went away quickly. Very quiet during hard braking and no noise on the street. I am extremely pleased with these pads and as others have mentioned, these should be standard issue for the Mustang.

      Hawk HPS Brake Pads

Great stopping power with little to no noise. A huge improvement over the factory Brembo pads. Pedal feel is improved and braking is more consistent. Initial bite is significantly improved and allows for a bit more stopping power before ABS intervention.

      Great bang for your buck!

Simple install with the Brembo calipers. Good stopping power. Pretty resistant to fade although they will squeak for about a day after repeated hard braking. Good balance for streetable performance pads. Overall, you cant beat them for the money.

      Straight forward Product/Install

The american muscle instructions were great! I forgot what the original stopping performance was from my '12 Brembos, but the HPS pads feel good. I think I should've installed new rotors as well, that is feeling like a weak point after having these new pads on. THE NOISE IS MUCH LESS THAN ADVERTISED. I was a little worried about that, but I haven't noticed any noise at all. Basic tool, got dirty, but overall easy install in the garage.

      improved braking feel

these pads should have come on the car from the factory. they improve the braking feel by leaps and bounds and produce less dust. they also help promote braking confidence when hauling the mail into a turn.

Great street pad and ok track pad.

Bites much harder than the stock Brembo pads. Almost slid off the front of my seat the first time I hit the brakes hard on the highway. Work great on the street, less dust than the stock pads. Did a track day yesterday with them. Fade resistance about the same as stock but with more stopping power. Could do with more but this is the compromise with a streetable pad. AM, you should change the description as you don't include GTs with the Brembo option. These are the same pad.

      Great Pads

Great Pads, can be a little on the loud side if they get to hot or its really cold out. They also produce more dust but well worth the trade off from the junk stock pads.

      Stop on a DIME!!

I have the brembo upgrade on my GT and in driving the car hard; you see why getting a brake pad upgrade is necessary. The stock brakes are not bad but the Hawk HPS's are much MUCH better. The amount of dust is way less than the stock brakes and as far as the noise goes, I cant tell due to my crazy loud exhaust. Even if there were louder. So what... These out perform anything on the market. So do yourself a favor and slap these babies on your stang. You can thank me later.

Good performance and excellent value for the money

I recently installed the Hawk HPS pads and new rotors on the front and rear of my GT500. COmpared with the stock pads, the HPS produce less dust and bite a little harder -- with no noise. I haven't had the opportunity to test their fade resistance yet, but overall I believe they are a great value for the money.
