      Description

Run Cooler. The Mishimoto Ford Mustang Racing thermostat promotes greater cooling efficiency throughout your Pony's engine and significantly lowers high engine temperatures produced by modified and forced induction applications.

More Power. The Mishimoto racing thermostat opens up at a lower temperature 154° fahrenheit (68 C) than the standard OEM factory thermostat 190° fahrenheit (88 C) allowing the coolant to flow through the engine block sooner reducing and maintaining cooler engine temperatures helping to produce more power.

      Application.
This Mishimoto Racing Thermostat is specifically designed for use on the 1996 to 2004 Mustangs equipped with 4.6L V8 engine, including the GT, Bullitt, Mach 1, and SVT Cobra.

        Thermoatat for 2003 GT

My car was near over heating because the old one was stuck now I can run the A/C and the gauge still sit firmly in the middle. However I did have to use the stock rubber gasket since the Mishimoto one was too bulky.

5 1997 Cobra - MartinM Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

Perfect for upgrading or replacing OEM

The thermostat was super easy to install and I’ve been having overheating issues in the past so I upgraded most my cooling system. When I opened the box it came with the thermostat and gasket. The gasket looks kinda weird and didn’t really set well within the housing, so I just threw the gasket to the side and used a basic O-ring gasket and it’s perfect. The moment the car gets to operating temps and I start driving a bit harder the temp gauge will raise a bit and then just drop to right above the O. Loving it.

5 2003 Cobra - Stormi Installation Time: Afternoon

Not an exact fit for the Cobra

If you want to use this on the Cobra you have to modify the provided gasket. I used a razor blade, but in the end it worked and dropped the coolant temp as expected.

      5 Top Rated Questions

I have a 97 cobra that I'm looking to help make it run a little cooler. I read in a magazine from Sean hyland that 4.6L DOHC like to run around 170-180 degrees. If this is a 160 degree thermostat will it make it run too cool to where a tune will be needed? I'm afraid it will keep the engine too cool when you're driving and keep it in it's "warm-up" mode.

      • The Mishimoto Racing Thermostat will not require a tune, however your best benefits will come when using a tune to modify parameters such as fan on/off times to match the new cooler thermostat.

Does the gasket need to be removed for installation? If not, the thermostat sits on top of the manifold and not inside, as needed?

      • If you check out the installation guide on the product page under the Installation Info section, you will see that there is a new O-ring with the thermostat that will sit in the manifold.

At what temperatures should my low and high speed fans be coming on and off to compliment this 160 degree thermostat the best? Also will this thermostat not prevent closed loop?

      Will it fit a 2001 v6

      • The Mishimoto Racing Thermostat will not fit a 2001 V6. It will only fit 96-04 V8 Mustangs

How does this thermostat effect the heating system in the winter time, will the interior still get as hot?

      • The car will still heat up to the full operating temperature, however, if the thermostat is open, and a high volume of air is passing through the radiator, the coolant flowing through the heater core will be at a lower temperature. If a lesser amount of air is passing the radiator, the heat in the coolant will not dissipate as easy, and the coolant will be a higher temperature.
