Review & Install Video

Hey I’m Justin with, and this is my quick look into the Pypes muffler deleting axle back exhaust system, fitting all 2005-2010 Mustang GTs, and GT500s. This axle back is for the Mustang owner who is looking for quite possibly one of the loudest setups with the cats in place, all for a price that’s going to be very hard to beat. Besides really cranking up the volume on your 3 valve, the muffler deleting axle back will increase the flow of exhaust, by eliminating the restrictive factory mufflers, which should equate to some more power at the rear wheels. Construction wise the Pypes system utilizes full 304 grade stainless steel throughout, including the mandrel bent 2.5” tubing and hangers all exiting out the removable 4” slash cut tips. Even though this is an axle back and the install should be relatively straightforward, you may run into an issue with modifying or relocating some of the hangers, as some of our customers have pointed out under the review section. Either way just be sure to leave yourself about an hour to get everything bolted up. Now let’s hear how the Pypes muffler deleting axle back sounds compared to our factory exhaust.

Increase Performance. Bolting on a Pypes Muffler Delete Axle-Back to a stock 2005-2010 GT or 2007-2010 GT500 will yield an instant 5 to 10 horsepower gain. It features a unique "muffler delete" design for the ultimate in flow and power gains with an ultra aggressive sound!

Aggressive Sound. This Pypes straight through "muffler delete" axle back system is designed to increase air flow and to produce one of the loudest exhaust sounds possible with the stock catalytic converters still in place. This is the closest thing to running straight pipes on your Mustang.

Polished 409 Stainless Steel. This Axle-Back system from Pypes is constructed from high quality 409 Polished 2.5" Stainless Steel tubing and features a 4" rolled edge slash cut polished tip, that exits in the stock location for aggressive Muscle Car looks.

Application. Made to be a direct bolt on, this Pypes Muffler Delete Axle-Back bolts right up in the stock location without any modifications required on the 2005-2010 GT or 2007-2010 GT500 Mustangs.

Technical Note: Americanmuscle recommends adding the 2005+ Mustang 304 Stainless Steel Exhaust Hanger Kit from the drop down option above, to provide more strength, stability and a cleaner installed appearance. If you have a 2007 Mustang you may need the kit for correct installation.

Are the hangers still a problem? Looking into buying these but only if they won't be an issue. Thanks

Would these be compatible with a mustang that has a Rear Roush Valence bumper on there?

  • The Pypes Muffler-Delete Axle-Back Exhaust will have a rounded tip design which the Roush rear Valance, item 69103 will have a square tip design which will not properly fit in alliance with the Roush design.

how are these compared to the Roush extreme Axle backs. I want more of a throaty rumble than for it to be just loud. I Have a 2010 v6 which I'm converting to a dual exhaust, and I'm torn between these and the roush extremes. So Which one will give me more of a deep throaty rumble??

  • The Pypes Muffler-Delete Axle-Back Exhaust will give a raspier/racier sound and less deep/rumbly sound due to their nature as a muffler delete.

i have v6 dual exhaust with pypes violators, h-pipe and BBK CAI. are these compatible with v6? will it give me a deeper sound? will there be any major installation problems with the hangars?

  • As long as the piping is 2.5" on your exhaust now then these would fit. However, these would give more of a higher pitch raspy sound than the violators. You should also not have an issue with the hangers.

If I have Long tube headers Off-road H pipe and at these muffler delete is it gonna give me a raspy sound

  • A raspy sound is so based on preference, if you are interested in the Pypes Muffler-Delete Axle-Back Exhaust we ask that you listen some videos of the exhaust and see if it fits your needs and goals for sound quality. Feel free to call or chat in to go over the sound and goals for your build with one of our Mustang experts.

Mean Exhaust from a V6 Owner

I think I may be the first V6 owner to review this exhaust because I couldn't find any which had me worried of what to expect. No, the hangers don't line up even for the V6. Shop took care of that no problem. Worked great with the new Pypes x-pipe kit. As far as the bumper I bought a GT500/CS OEM re-manufactured bumper to replace the original (~$700 painted). However I had the original on for a while before I got the new one and cut some holes in it with a dremel. Honestly I thought would look terrible but for a really quick cut it looked great. Note that not only did I have to cut the driver's side hole, the factory hold had to be made bigger otherwise the bumper would touch the tip. You'll want at least a half inch of clearance. As far as the sound it's awesome! It won't sound like a V8 but it has a really nice raspy race car growl; not ricey at all. A couple little backfires here and there when rev'ing in neutral from a cold start but it stops when I start driving. It'll probably go away when I get my intake/tune or the computer adjusts for the new airflow (installed earlier today). I haven't tried resetting it yet as it's hardly noticeable. Tuner/CAI is the next upgrade!

Pypes sound great, install was pretty easy too, Only issue I have isd the same as most of the others, the Right side will not line up and I don't have time to mess with it right now. I just find it hard to believe that after 3 + years of product reviews the company hasn't made an effort to correct this issue. Only other issue, I was told I would need the hanger kit, they are the same as the factory hangers, don't spoend the extra cash if you don't need to.

    Hanger adjustments needed

Like all of the other reviews, you do need to adjust your hangers, this was quite a pain to install the passenger side, but when it was in, it was very loud. I have the pypes off-road x-pip and now the muffler delete system...way to loud and raspy, putting pypes hi-flow cats on soon...will review after.

    Didn't Just Slip On

No doubt this exhaust sounds great but it kind of took a good amount of time because one of the hangers had to be cut and rewelded so that took some time

    Pypes rocks

I am very picky about sounds, was never happy with the sound of Flowmaster or Magnafllow so decided to try this one out. I heard the sound was loud so I tried it and all I can say its DAMN! This system gives the loudest sound you can get, it really does sound AWESOME. On my first day out driving I got complements twice, I was asked what did I have under the hood twice and GIRLS love it so keep your windows down and be ready to get some numbers! I do have a 2005 GT with other mods, like K&N cold air intake, pulleys, computer, 3:73 gears, Cobra package (wheels and emblems) so now the car does sound like a true cobra! I do recommend this system to anyone, you won\'t be dissastisfied and the installation its only 45min.

    Fitment Issues

Had to bend hangers and had to cut slices into the pipes so they would clamp down to the H-pipe. But after we got'em on we fired it up and it sounded like a Hot Rod. 2008 Highland Green Bullitt Mustang

This exhaust makes your car the best sounding thing on the road. There is A seat of the pants increase of power. Another thing the other reviews don't mention is that even if less than 10hp is added this exhaust also removes around 50 lbs of weight from the car along with a few other tricks it adds up. Only down side is the fit of the hangers.

    Sounds great, but.....

The exhaust sounds great! Has a nice rumble to it while the car is idling, and has a nice roar when you are accelerating past the 2500 RPM range up to about 4000 RPM. Only problem is that the hangers are not cut to the right length and shape to fit properly. I installed myself in just over an hour, and the right side ended up about an inch lower than the left. Took it to a performance exhaust shop and got the hangers fixed to fit properly for only about $10. Shop owner said it is an ongoing problem with these Pypes exhausts. Still happy with the purchase though.

    Great Sound

Amazing from the get go. Deep, throaty sound, but still comfortable at idle speeds. The sound is perfect between 2000-3500 rpms, after that it is still loud, but smoother and more similar to the stock exhaust. However, quick accelerations are sue to turn heads. Another thing I like is the Pypes logo engraved atop the muffler tip. It adds a nice extra flair. Definitely worth every penny, the Pypes muffler delete is the best muscle car sound i have heard yet.

    Outstanding product

I have always like to announce my presence with authority and these definitely fit the bill on my '07 GT500. Some say they are too loud but I'm an old school guy and don't understand why you buy a high performance car, modify it, and they say it's too loud. I bought mine a while back and don't really understand why the hanger issues haven't been corrected. Took a little extra time for the correct fitment but once you start modifying a car, you can't expect everything to just perfectly fall into place, so no big deal.

Its the sickest sound ever. I been to a lot of car shows but I never heard any like this. I use to have megnaflow it wasnt even close to this. People get scared of it. The only bad thing was the hangers.

    Awesome sound

shipping as super quick (as per the AM standards). Took these to a muffler shop to get installed. Took about 45 mins for the install. The Good: Tips look uber cool. The exhaust note is oh-so-awesome. The bad: the passenger side tip does hang a little lower that the driver side. Can be fixed by bending the hangers a bit. Overall, this product is awesome. The sound can wake the dead...!!!

    Perfect Sound

I spent a while trying to decide on an axleback that I thought I would like. I knew I wanted a loud, raspy, and crackly exhaust so I eventually settled on the Pypes Muffler Delete. The Pypes delivered within 2-3 days. I was initially worried that I would have issues with the fitment. However, the Pypes are designed to fit perfectly. The issue arises because there is no clearance when sliding the Pypes into the hangers and trying to connect it to the mid-pipe. But if you take the hangers off of the frame of the car, it makes the install pretty easy. Unbolt the hangers from the frame, slide them onto the Pypes, connect the Pypes to the mid-pipe, bolt the hangers back on to the frame of the car, then clamp everything down. Immediately after the install, I went for a drive and it was like driving a new car. I was very impressed with how amazing it sounded. Very loud, raspy, and crackles and pops a lot. Obviously, it's a little louder within the car but no annoying drone. I've already set a car alarm off in a parking garage. I couldn't be happier with the Pypes Muffler Delete.

I installed these muffler deletes two days ago, now after all these people have complained about hanger problems, its not the hangers that are the problem, its the hanger pin welded onto the passenger side pipe, yes it is too long!!! But just like Robert stated in his installation guide, YOU LITERALLY CAN PUT THESE PIPES ON WITHOUT ADJUSTING ANYTHING!!!! Now if your concern is fit and finish, then yes you will have to make some adjustments for it to look perfect, but if your more worried about the sound and extra kick it gives your car, then don't worry about it! You will see that the passenger side pipe sits about an inch lower than the drivers side! These deletes make my car sound angry , I couldn't even get out of town before I had little punks trying to mess with me! This bolt on will make your ride pull just a little bit harder, and the chrome hangers are exactly the same as your stock ones, so don't waste your money!!!! This is exactly how my car should have sounded all along!!!

    Just what I wanted

Got this exhaust for Christmas and couldn't be happier. Installed myself in my apartment complex parking lot and took it to the local muffler shop where they welded the tips on place. Best sound hands down. LOVE the cold starts and the downshifting sounds. Idled next to a 2010 Camaro: Didn't even think the Camaro was turned on!

Dont waste your money on Magnaflow and Flowmaster. Like technology, times have changed and the muffler deletes speak for themselves. Its the best investment I have made on my 2006 GT.

    Awesome sound

I'm currently running an off-road x pipe with these and the car is AMAZINGLY LOUD! Some people say they don't like the sound of these cars with no cars or mufflers but I love it. The fitting took a little tinkering but I didn't need any welding or cutting. Definitely an awesome purchase. Thanks again to pypes and American muscle

awesome system, not so great fitment

I would going to install myself but after reading about the fitment problems i took it to a shop and had it done. This system is loud 1st off. awesome sound. anything below 2k rev it quiets down a good amount. after 2k the sound loud ens after that a huge amount. at cruse speed 60 ,there is no annoying drones or way over loudness at all. despite taking it to a shop and having it done. so what, there is more benefits that out ways just 1 flaw. over all awesome axel back
