  • Increases of 10 to 20 Horsepower
  • 2.5" 409 Stainless Steel Tubing

Increase In Performance. Bolting on a Pypes V6 True Dual Exhaust Kit to a stock 1998 to 2004 V6 will yield an increase of 10 to 20 more horsepower! This Pypes V6 True Dual Exhaust Kit includes both the Catted X-Pipe and Cat-Back needed to give your Mustang an impressive throaty V8 sound and increase in rear wheel horsepower.

Catted X-Pipe design. This Pypes catted x-pipe balances out the gas pressures in your exhaust system to create more power and torque than the stock Y-pipe. Why? Because the exiting exhaust pulses are merged at the "X", resulting in less exhaust back pressure for more power. Pypes High Flow Catalytic Converters are included.

Quality Materials. Both the Catted X-Pipe and Cat-Back are constructed from mandrel bent 2.5" 409 stainless steel. The X-Pipe features welded reinforcement plates for additional strength and the Dual Cat-Back features Pypes Street-Pro 3-chamber mufflers for an aggressive throaty sound. With its 3" polished 304 stainless steel tips this system not only sounds great, but it looks great too.

Application. The Pypes V6 True Dual Exhaust Kit is specifically designed to fit on any 1998 to 2004 3.8L or 3.9L V6 Mustang for more power and a more aggressive sound.

Technical Note: May require the use of O2 Sensor Extensions for proper installation. Some cutting to the flow tubes is required.

Is this Exhaust system better than say the; Magnaflow Dual Catback Exhaust (99-04 V6), and if so Why? Im considering the purchase of the Pypes True Dual Catted Exhaust (98-04 V6) over the other Exhaust systems your site has to offer. Just looking for a more detailed look at the effectiveness of the part over the others.

  • Yes because it's a true dual system vs catback system. A catback dual is dual after the cats or Y pipe. A true dual is dual after the manifolds/headers. The X pipe is the only place the exhaust restricts on this system and it's still a lot less of a restriction than a catback system has. The best is a true dual with H pipe. That way the pipes don't intersect. The H pipe strictly evens out exhaust flow without the main pipes comming together at a single point in the entire system.

Work with shorty??? I was wanting to replace my exhaust from the headers back. Will these work with a set of shorty headers. i was looking at the set ob bbk ceramic.

  • yes this system is designed to work with any pair of shorty headers for the 98-04 v6.

Is this Catted Exhaust legal in the state of California? If so will it pass smog test as well?

  • Hello! Unfortunately this exhaust is not CARB legal and will not pass a smog test.

Is this California legal?

  • This exhaust is not CARB legal and cannot be used on a vehicle in California.

I have a 2004 v6 3.9l and I'm thinking of switching out my current exhaust with the pypes true dual catted exhaust. I live in TN where it isn't strict on emissions. But I wanted to ask which catalytic converters would be best?

  • So any catalytic converters that will come attached with any of these exhausts are going to be high flow cats, so they are all going to be the same.

Will any 99-04 v8 exhaust convert with this?

  • The Pypes True Dual Catted Exhaust can be used with any catback exhaust designed for the GT, however we recommend using the Pypes off road, or catted X pipe to save money if you plan on using a different catback than what is included in this kit. The SKU's for these are 20006 and 20040.

it is not a bad sound from pypes, it sounds kinda like an exotic car pass 3200-3500, but sounds pretty good down low a deep tone up to 1200, its worth the buy, i had a shop install mine for me i had a couple clerance issues under the car but fixed with a little twist and a tack weld to keep it from moving again, i blame the shop for that, the main thing i dont like about it is the cats stick down below the car a decent amount so you have to go pretty slow over speed bumps but it clears, will probably change them out in future when car gets lowered, other than that not any other bad things have happened so far

Shop went through hell to install

exhaust kit sounds good, but the installation was a pain to cope with. The pipes needed to be cut several times just for it to look right. Nuts and bolts were of poor quality and some did not fit/nor reach. Also, clamps broke several times and were also of poor quality. High Flow catts needed larger O2 sensor to reach. After fitment and clearance were resolve the left tailpipe needed to be adjusted several times so it could look good rather then having the tailpipe being off center 20 degrees to the left. Left Tailpipes exhaust strap grommets will need to be replace because the rubber has broken off and tailpipe/ 3" tips hanager is daggling so I temporarliy duck tape it from it coming off again. tHE EXHAUST KIT NEEDED TO BE WELDED ALSO TO KEEP IT FROM MOVING. For the money this is not worth it and AM should discontinue this, if this is the type of material product Pypes produces. IT IS NOT A DIRECT BOLT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!

    just not what i expected

Overall this is a decent exhaust. Just depends on your taste. If you really get down, (open up your stang) it does have that "rice burner" sound. You will need o2 sensor extensions. And you will have to do some cuting. But no welding. I suggest hang from back to front. And a transmission jack was real handy for me to raise the system to figure my cuts for fitment.

    Pypes Dual Exhaust

I am happy with the product. It sounds really good, I was expecting it to be a little louder than it is, It required slight modifications, after that it fit together nicely. It does hang a little lower than the magnaflow cat back system that I had on before, which is why the 4 out of 5. All in all I am pleased with the new system.

    Great Exhaust

What a awesome sound from these pypes. from start up to turn off, it lets out an agressive roar. it can sound a little airy when not in the power train but it turns heads everywhere you go! touch your baby up with some cosmetics and it'll transform into a whole different car! mufflers do sit a little low so if you plan to drop it, be mindful.

    Pypes True Dual Conversion

Bought this kit about a week ago, showed up ahead of schedule. Had a shop install it, took 2 hours on the dot. They also recommend installing from back to front because of the axle clearancing. They also said that it was about a 9.25" cut on the down pipe for the catalytic converters rather than the 8.5" on the instructions. Sounds fantastic! Haven't wiped the smile off my face. Not too loud, not too quiet. HP increase is VERY noticeable. Very pleased, thanks AM!

    Great for the price!

Just installed and its great! Pretty easy...included instructions for the x pipe but not the cat back, still really easy to bolt up. I was a little skeptical with some of the bad reviews on fitment, but i had no problems, just minor adjustments. Sounds awesome! It has a nice rumble at idle, sounds like a GT, alot deeper than i thought it would but not as loud as i had hoped. Got the catted kit because i didnt want it too loud, but now im thinkin about pulling them.

    True Dual Catted Exhaust

Just got these babies installed on my 03 V6. Along with this I also purchased the BBK Shorty Headers, as well as replaced all 4 of the O2 sensors (might as well take care of it all at once!) All I can say is I wish I had of done it years ago. The power and the sound is amazing compared to stock. I also have a cold air intake and now my pony can breathe. Now I need to purchase the tuner to get the full effects of my mods to date.

    Worth it

Definitly happy with this exhaust. Not as loud as I wanted, thinking about replacing street pro mufflers that were included with the violator series. But other than that very happy. The only downsides were that the fit is not perfect and directions are very vague. Rear passenger tailpipe hanger was welded on crooked and the system hangs too low, as if they were made for shorty headers.

    Love It

This exhaust is great. Installation was pretty straightforward and the hardest part is getting the old one off. It sounds like a V8 now and looks fantastic. Of note, the Extension are required. Mine required trimming of the alignment tabs and I had to unclip the connection point from mount in order to make them reach.
