    Features & Details

    • Affordable.
    • Better Than Resurfacing.
    • Provides Fresh Bedding Surface.
    • Ideal for New Clutch.
    • Fits SPEC #SF84A & SF84S.
Restore Your Flywheel. If you're replacing your Mustang's clutch or just need to have your SPEC flywheel resurfaced as maintainence, consider a SPEC replacement flywheel friction plate. A SPEC replacement friction plate is designed to fit your existing SPEC flywheel perfectly, providing a brand new surface for your new clutch.

Better Than Resurfacing. Replacing your flywheel's friction plate is significantly better than resurfacing it, because during resurfacing the plate is simply "flattened" by removing enough material to create a clean, flat surface. There are a few problems with this - one, you're losing some of your friction plate to this process. Second, any damage that was done to the plate due to heat or stress isn't fixed. Replacing the plate is better than resurfacing to give you a completely fresh start.

Application. This SPEC flywheel replacement friction plate is designed for the 8 bolt SPEC flywheels for the 1999 to Mid 2001 GT, 1996-2004 Cobra and 2003-2004 Mach 1, which are SPEC part numbers #SF84A & SF84S.

Hello does this come with the bolts and nuts to attach this to the flywheel? Reason I ask is when you click what's in the box it just says friction plate. Thanks in advance.

        • The friction plate includes all new fasteners to secure plate to flywheel.

I have a unknown aftermarket flywheel and I need a replacement insert. It appears to be the same staggered bolt pattern as what's on my car currently. Will this insert only fit spec brand flywheels?

        • The Spec Flywheel Replacement Friction Plate is designed specifically for Spec 8 bolt Mustang flywheels, and would not fit other flywheels from other brands.

the six bolt or eight bolt friction plate replacements, are they referring to where the plate attaches to the crank or the pressure plate? 2004 Cobra replacing the spec clutch with a ram HD, will that mate up with the spec flywheel and new friction plate?

        • The Spec Flywheel Replacement Friction Plate - 8 Bolt is designed for the 8 bolt Spec flywheels. It is recommended that all components (clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, etc.) are the same brand. This will ensure that everything works together properly and fits correctly. Even though the clutch and friction plate are designed for an 03-04 Cobra, does not mean they will bolt up together.

Will I need to have the flywheel balanced after I install the plate?

        • I would talk to the shop you are having do the installation and see what their process is. In my opinion yes I would have it balanced. A smooth running engine is best. You dont want to have a vibration that over time will just tear other parts to pieces. Just make sure that when its balanced that they balance it the proper way for your engine which they already should do based on that is their business. Whether its and externally or internally balanced engine determines how the flywheel and clutch should be balanced to it all

            Cheap replacement

Previous owner had a spec flywheel put in but a cheap clutch that wouldn't hold the power. Specs great design made it a cheap replacement with this disc. Lots of bolts but easy to do. Matched up well with my stage 2 Exedy Clutch in my Cobra.

            Smooth Engagement

I bought a car that had a skip when starting off in first or reverse. I replaced the t45 with a tr3650 and swapped the clutch to a new one as well. While it was all tore down I found the issue with the skip. The car surprised me and had a serviceable spec flywheel. The friction plate looked like a bad brake rotor and had hot spots from the previous owner not changing the friction plate when changing the clutch. I ordered this one and serviced the flywheel. The nuts are single use and supplied with the plate along with the appropriate bolts. After installing the new components the car was a smooth as silk engaging into first or reverse.

            So far so good!

It's an easy affordable upgrade. If you're changing out your clutch go ahead and get you the spec aluminum flywheel ! You will not be disappointed. Grips like a boss!

            Great Idea

Fit and finish was perfect; regarding performance gain, I do not believe there's an improvement there, but the added benefit of swapping out a clutch and not having to wait on someone to re-finish the flywheel is awesome. The only thing missing was torque specs for the screws/bolts for re-attachment. An email to SPEC support yielded a quick response of 75in/lb. Installation was simple, and quick. Would recommend this simply for its ability to simplify a clutch swap.

            SPEC Flywheel Replacement Friction Plate

Great investment I've made. Beats buying a whole new flywheel and resurfacing the old flywheel. Really easy installation once you have the transmission dropped, just unscrew some bolts and buts and replace the plate and bolt on the new screws and nuts. American muscle has the lowest prices out there and I receive my shipment in 2 days. Thank you guys. I'll always get my parts from American Muscle!

            Friction plate

This was a great kit and an excellent idea that will save you money. 100 dollars versus 300-400 for a new flywheel. Once you have the flywheel off it is a very quick replacement; about 15 - 30 minutes depending on your level of righty tighty, lefty loosey skills. All components needed to replace the friction plate are included. Obviously this is an afternoon job or maybe longer depending on your level of skill and experience, since the transmission, pressure plate, clutch, and flywheel need to be removed. However, as stated earlier once the flywheel is off it is a very quick job, just remove the old friction plate and install the new friction plate. Can't remember how many bolts there were but it was quite a few maybe 15 - 20. Overall, great product for saving some cash on a part that naturally wears out.
