    Review & Installation Video

    Review & Install Video

The Bama Rev-X will be for the S197 V6 owners out there who are looking for an affordable tuning option to deliver not only more power, but also a little bit more torque to your 3.7L-powered V6 Mustang. Prospective buyers will be receiving two custom tunes, in addition to being enrolled into Bama's Free Tunes for Life Program, which allows users to get tune updates as your modifications grow. Now, along with the Bama tunes, owners will be receiving the latest device here, called the "Rev-X tuner" with the added benefit of cloud-based tuning, which is an industry first. Your price point is going to be right around $400 and you're looking at a simple one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter when it does come time to get these tunes loaded to your ride. Bama Performance has been doing their thing in the Mustang world for well over 10 years now, and has become one of the biggest names in the industry, thanks to combining affordable prices, great customer service, and pretty solid gains. Now, their Free Tunes for Life Program continues to be a big hit with many Mustang owners out there. Because let's face it guys. Modifications never really seem to end and with the company's program, you get a tune revision every time you add a modification, allowing you to maximize your performance. But aside from the Free Tunes for Life Program, Bama likes to deliver a couple of different tuning options, their Performance V2 and their Race V2 tunes. Now, a Performance tune is a little bit more geared towards the street. Small bump in power, a little bit better throttle response, improved shift firmness for those automatic cars. The Race tune, on the other hand, is super-aggressive and is designed for all out performance, using 93 octane or higher fuel. But without further ado, let's get into the numbers you might be able to expect on your own '11 to '14 V6 Mustang. Now, we already established a baseline run earlier using our manual 2014 V6. We then reran the car using the 93 octane Bama Race tune, and here are those results. The baseline run using our six-speed V6 gave us 245 horsepower, and 243 pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels. With that 93 octane Bama Race tune in place, the car is now making 252 horsepower, and 260 pound-feet of torque again at the rear wheels. This is good for a peak gain of 7 horsepower over those baseline numbers, and gains of as much as 18 horsepower, and 26 pound-feet of torque under the curve. All right. So even though our peak gains weren't absolutely massive with the 3.7 V6, the big story here, no doubt, were the gains made under the curve. Typically, guys, these are going to be the gains you'll feel light to light, especially between the 3,000 to 4,000 RPM range, where those big torque numbers were made. You also have to keep in mind here, gang, that Dynos will be different. Conditions will be different. So ultimately, your results might vary slightly compared to ours. However, this is just to give you a better idea of what to expect when using the Bama tuning on your own V6 at home. Now, along with these power numbers, prospective buyers can also look forward to things like improved throttle response, a nice, smooth idle, and great drivability, just to name a few, while those automatic-equipped cars can look forward to snappier shifts and a sportier feel all around. But as I pointed out earlier, this package does include two different custom tunes from the Bama Performance team, along with unlimited data log revisions to get the best experience possible. Bama also offers more in-depth tunes for things like nitrous, E85, and forced induction. But because those tunes are a little bit more involved, they are going to cost you a little bit more. But let's quickly touch on this Rev-X device here, because there is some really cool things to talk about. Now, on the surface, the Rev-X will be very similar to the X4 that you guys probably all know and love, in regards to just basic features and operation, but with one big exception and that is this new cloud-based tuning system. What does this mean for you guys? Well, instead of needing a laptop to receive your tunes from the Bama team, you're just simply going to connect the Rev-X device to a WiFi signal. It's going to prompt you to download these tunes from the cloud, and that's pretty much it. It's a nice feature for a few different reasons. First and foremost, guys, it's really going to speed up the process of not only receiving your tunes, but also loading them onto the device, in addition to not needing a computer to get you up and running, messing with emails, things like that. If you're a Mac user, well, this is a complete gamechanger, guys, because let's face it. Most aftermarket tuning devices aren't Apple-compatible. Now, for starters, you are getting the onscreen gauges and data logging capable of reading and displaying up to eight different values at one time. Some of these include things like air-fuel ratio, intake air temp, boost, coolant temp, ignition timing, just to name a few. But even though the case is a little different, the overall dimensions really haven't changed all that much. It's still roughly the same size as most smartphones out there. Complete with a three-inch, full-color LCD screen, it is configurable or viewable in two different ways. You have your Portrait mode, which is going to be the straight up and down. Or you can flip it over to its side and give you that Landscape mode. Now, on the topic of displaying this device, one thing that I actually thought was really cool about this is this little portion here on the back. It's actually magnetic. So if you have one of those cell phone holders that is magnet-based, it's going to be a great way to display the device for everyday driving. But it's also going to make it very easy to remove, toss in the glovebox or center console when needed. But in addition to all of the stuff we've already talked about so far here with the device, you can also expect some of the other greatest hits, if you will, such as your WiFi capabilities, which will allow you to download those tunes wirelessly from the cloud, like we already talked about. But it's also going to allow you to download any future firmware updates to the device without the need for the computer, again, like we already mentioned. Now, even though you are only receiving two custom tunes from the Bama Performance team, the Rev-X tuner does have the capabilities to hold up to 10 at one time. Now, of course, you will be able to read and clear those diagnostic trouble codes, better known to you guys as "check engine lights," with the Rev-X device here, in addition to returning the car to stock if you ever needed or wanted to during your time of ownership. The Rev-X does also include both your USB cable, which can be used to connect this to a laptop for data logging and things like that, in conjunction with your OBD-II cable as well, which will be used to connect the Rev-X device to your S550. Speaking of connecting this little guy to your ride here, let's get into the install briefly, using the Rev-X device. Honestly, guys, it's very straightforward. So one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter here, you don't even have to get your hands dirty, and maybe 30 minutes of your time to get you up and running for the very first time. This might seem pretty obvious, but I strongly recommend just following the included instructions with the Rev-X tuner, just for the initial startup, but also the basic operation. This will also help you get those tunes onto the device for the very first time. Once you have that taken care of, go ahead and plug the device into your OBD-II port, and wait for it to power on. Now, you can navigate to the Program Vehicle tab and select the tune you wish to upload. Follow those onscreen instructions and your installation is complete. Wrapping this one up, the Bama Rev-X will be your most affordable custom tuning option currently on the site. It's going to deliver two custom tunes and their Free Tunes for Life Program, all on the very cool, new Rev-X device, which is going to help make the tuning process a much easier one. So be sure to check out this combo right here at americanmuscle.com.

Now you can add Dyno proven gains in power and torque, as well as improve the overall performance of your 2011-2014 V6 with a Rev X Programmer that includes 2 Bama Custom V2 Tunes. By optimizing the air/fuel ratio, adjusting ignition timing and tweaking variable cam timing, a Bama Performance Custom V2 Tune will squeeze out the extra power Ford left on the table. Curve Gains of 18 RWHP / 26 RWTQ have been seen on bone stock 3.7L Mustangs with a 93 octane tune. Automatic transmissions will see an even greater gain in acceleration and drivability, as the tune also adjusts shift points and firmness.

Increase Your Mod's Potential. From the factory, Ford programs their vehicles to cater to the needs of the daily driver, not the performance enthusiast who adds aftermarket bolt-on modifications in search of more power. When making performance mods, you will need to re-calibrate the vehicle's computer to realize their full potential.

Free Tunes for Life! Every customer that purchases a Bama Rev X Tuner is enrolled in the Free Tunes for Life program. Any time that you make additional mods to your vehicle, our team of certified Bama Calibrators will create new tunes for you. Just send us a list of the part or parts you've added and we'll upload your new tune files to the cloud.

Custom Bama Tunes Specific to your Pony. When you order a tuner, you aren't just getting a tuner – you're getting the tuner and 2 Dyno-tested custom Bama tunes:

    • Performance V2 (87-93 Octane) - The Performance Tune offers a seamless blend of power, performance and drive-ability. Improving the overall driving experience of your Mustang, the Bama Performance Tune improves vehicle acceleration, increases power throughout the entire RPM and improves throttle response with revised timing, fuel, and Ti-VCT maps. Automatic equipped vehicles offer an aggressive shifting map to provide more aggressive transmission settings. This tune is suggested for the aggressive daily driver that is looking for more "get up and go."

    • Race V2 (91-93 Octane, E85, Race Fuel) - The Race Tune is designed for maximum performance and ensures the largest increase in vehicle performance. Using the highest grade of fuel available in your area is mandatory as timing, Ti-VCT, fuel, and throttle response settings are very aggressive. Automatic transmission settings implement entirely new shift points, torque converter changes and firmness settings designed for Track use.

Nitrous (91, 93, E85, Race Fuel) - Our nitrous option can be added to any of our previously mentioned tune options, but only for 91, 93, E85, or Race Fuel.

Technical Note About Fuel. Use of E85 will require larger fuel injectors. Unleaded race fuel can also be used, but Stoichiometric points must be supplied.

Wi-Fi Updates and Cloud Tuning. The Rev X Tuner by SCT is Wi-Fi capable, meaning it will always be up to date. Once setup with your Wi-Fi password, the Rev X will download the latest firmware updates via the internet. Besides firmware updates, your Rev X can also download your custom Bama tune files via the cloud, reducing the hassles of transferring files from your PC to your Rev X device.

Data Logging and Monitoring. The Rev X Tuner by SCT makes it easy to read the Built-In Data Logging and/or the Real Time Data, so you can view popular sensor data such as EGT, Air/Fuel Ratio or any other 0-5 Volt source. You can even customize the monitoring capability of your Rev X using device's free Livelink software.

Diagnostics Tool. The Rev X Tuner can also be used as a diagnostic code reader. Save yourself hundreds of dollars each year by reading and clearing your own Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) rather than paying a dealer to do the same. It's as easy as a few simple steps.

Easy to Load; Easy to Restore. When you load your custom tune on the vehicle, the tuner automatically stores your vehicle's factory settings. To return the vehicle to its factory settings, just plug the tuner back in, select the option to restore the factory settings and you're done. This is ideal for visiting dealerships for warranty work.

Application. This Bama Rev-X Tuner by SCT with Custom Tune Files by Bama Performance is specifically designed to fit the 2011-2014 V6 Mustang. Please note that this programmer is not legal for sale or use in California on pollution controlled motor vehicles.

**Please Note: The Rev-X Performance Programmer ships blank from AmericanMuscle. Your custom tune files will be available for download via the cloud when your tuner arrives.

It's highly recommended to download Free LiveLink and Updater Software. The LiveLink Application is used to view, data log, record and playback your Mustang's PCM data on a laptop computer. The Updater Application lets you update your device's Firmware, Tune Revision or to load Custom Tunes onto your device. Requires Windows Vista/7/8/10 and an internet connection.

I'm an old guy who grew up with carburetors. Will these tunes get rid of the aggravating feel of having a bad accelerator pump in your carburetor? I installed the Pedalmax throttle enhancer which helped, but it is still annoying. When I hit the go pedal, I want to go now, not 2 seconds later. Thanks.

    GaryO

    • The Bama Rev-X Tuner by SCT will adjust both throttle sensitivity, and delay, allowing the pedal feel to be fine tuned. BAMA will include two tunes, a performance tune which will have a nice crisp pedal, and a race tune, which will be much more aggressive, and very sensitive (we recommend this for the track only due to throttle sensitivity). In Addition, BAMA can adjust these further to your liking.

My tuner will be arriving today. I understand that I must first update the firmware via wi-fi on the tuner, but how do I get my tune from "the cloud". I got an email saying the custom tune was ready, but not how to get it onto the actual tuner. Thanks!

    JimmieR

    • Since your tunes are now ready you will want to go to program vehicle on the tuner. Then the tuner will ask if you would like to download tunes from the cloud. You would simply accept this and from there you would just need to be connected to wifi and the tunes would be downloaded! If you have any questions feel free to give Bama Performance a call. Can you use the same tuner for many cars or is it specifically designed for one??

    ParmbirB

    • The Bama Rev-X Tuner by SCT will have a set number of 'unlocks.' When you tune a vehicle, it becomes VIN locked to that car. Returning the car to stock will allow this to tune a new vehicle, and in the process of tuning the new vehicle, will use up an unlock. When all unlocks have been used, the tuner will be locked, unable to tune a new vehicle without having the device unlocked (for a fee) by the manufacturer (SCT). It is typically not recommended to use this tuner between multiple cars. Additionally, Bama's tunes for life program will provide tunes for life for the original purchaser/vehicle only and will not transfer between vehicles and owners.

I almost have 70,000 miles on my car and I definitely wish I had gotten this mod a lot sooner for my car. Really opens it up from a v6 to a car that makes you think it's definitely something more. Still getting used to it. But wow. What a great difference!!!

      Unreal power increase

I have been wanting to get a tuner and CAI for my 2013 v6 since I bought the car new in June 2012. When I bought my mustang I was always impressed by the upper range highway power (60mph-80 mph) but always felt that the car didn't feel like a 305hp car. I got the airaid dry cold air intake and this tuner with a 93 octane racing tune and I was absolutely blown away. It feels like a new car. If I was put behind the wheel and didn't know it was a v6 I'd say it was a v8 based on the power. For those of you who have the stock v6 , you know it doesn't allow you to spin your wheels even when traction control is off. With this tune and CAI this car can spin its wheels all day and sounds much more powerful. Seriously... if you have any doubts about unlocking the power of your v6 , don't wait 5 years like I did. The difference is remarkable. Worth every dime.

      Bama rev x wow

First I bought the tuner with a steeda cold air intake and ran the performance tune before install the cold air intake and I could feel the difference the car was responding better and pulling great but I didn't know what was waiting for me on the other side which was the race tune. Wow does begin to describe it, the race tune was amazing the car responds great and it pulls like a mustang should and it loves the higher rpm i have a manual and I love it. Finally installed the cold air intake and bama got me the tune for the cold air intake and running the race tune and the is good just the right amount of power

      Talk about wow

I was hesitant on buying this tuner or modifying my car first more but man IM GLAD I bought this. You can definitely feel the improvement in torque and power. I'm running the 87 performance octane (with Airraid intake and Roush axle back exhaust) and my pony picks up speed! Can't wait for my tank to empty so I can put in that 93 octane fuel and try out the race tune. Expecting the wheels to spin!

Bought this tuner and got it on a week. Didn't have my tunes on it wht I got it but wad a quick fix. Called and they sent them right to me and only took minutes to download over WiFi. No plugging into a computer anymore! Love that. Haven't had it on very long but love how you don't have to depress the had peddle as much and seems to add some performance

Tune is nice, device could be better.

The tune does wake up the car some and improves response/power. I wish you could do some sort of logging with just the device and I also think that there could be more features. It has a nice display screen, unfortunately that really doesn't matter because you can't really monitor anything worthwhile with just the device so you just flash the tune and throw it in the glove box. It also can't be left plugged in even if you wanted to use it as a display/monitor because it stays on all the time and there's no setting to shut off when the car turns off. For $400 I wish you could do more with it as far as monitoring/adjusting/logging. They could have made the device 1/2 the price and not put a nice screen and stuff on it because 99 of people will just flash the tune and throw it in the trunk and never look at it again. It was very easy to connect to wifi and download my tunes to it. It also was very easy to navigate and there are some cool features like being able to read and clear codes and you can monitor your fuel trims and intake temps (not knock though) I'm pretty happy with the purchase however there are things that could be improved.

      Easy upgrade to better performance.

Dollar for dollar the best performance upgrade I have. Custom tune based on my after market upgrades (Roush cai/cat back exhaust) boosted mileage to 30 when treated gently over 150 miles... but the low end power is the biggest gain. Just need more rubber in the road after upgrade. Rev limiter/top speed governance is great for when loaned to family.

      Rob in Texas

Loading tunes on tuner using WiFi, loading tunes on car was easy just follow the commands on the tuner. If you can read you can load the tunes. Now I did not feel a lot of difference between the performance tune and the race tune, Noticeable difference between stock and performance/race tunes. The big difference was it did fix the driveability issues I was having. The idle is smooth and throttle response is quicker when rev matching when downshifting. The only time I would go back to the stock tune would be if I could not afford the price of gas or if I got rid of the car. Overall happy with purchase.
