Simple installation for anyone.
Hey, everybody. I'm Justin with americanmuscle.com. Welcome to my quick breakdown and Dyno test of the K&N Series 69 Typhoon cold air intake system available for your '11 to '14 V6 powered Mustang. In the land of aftermarket intakes for your 3.7, there are going to be many different choices. What's going to be the deciding factor for you and your ride? Let's start with the name. Obviously, K&N knows a thing or two about making an intake and an air filter having pretty much written the book on modern day filtration. Because of this, they are going to continue to be one of the most popular choices for aftermarket air filters and intakes in the automotive world and beyond. On the surface you can tell that the Series 69 from K&N is definitely going to be one of the flashier options for your V6 that you will find here at AM, and that's thanks largely in part to this bright chrome aluminum intake tube. Of course, most of us would like to say that we install these aftermarket intakes for the performance and the sound benefits, but the improvement in under hood appearance should definitely not go overlooked. Adding to the appearance, you will notice this really cool carbon fiber intake cover or heat shield, one of my personal favorite parts about this intake. It just adds to the overall appearance of the Typhoon intake itself. In addition to that heat shield cover here, the air box itself and the aluminum intake tube, you will notice all the hardware and couplers needed to complete the package. Like most of the aftermarket intakes available for your 3.7 powered Mustang, you will notice that an aftermarket or custom tune is not required when running this K&N. With that being said, though, it's never a bad idea as it's only going to increase your performance and improve your driveability overall. Before we can find out just what kind of gains are possible using the Typhoon intake here from K&N along with that tune, we've got to get this thing installed. The process really couldn't be any easier even for my first-time wrenchers out there and should only take you roughly an hour from start to finish using some basic hand tools. As always guys, I'd like to encourage you to give us a call here at AM and talk to a Mustang expert if you have any more questions about the Typhoon intake itself or any other product you'll find here at AM. All right guys, we already grabbed our baseline run using our 6-speed 2014 V6 behind me earlier. Now with the intake installed, we're going to move the car over to the Dyno jet one more time and see what kind of power we're looking at. Our baseline run using our manual 2014 V6 gave us 245 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels. With the K&N, the car's now making 254 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels, giving us a peak gain of 9 horsepower over those baseline numbers and gains of as much as 18 horsepower and 26 pound-feet of torque throughout the curve. If you're in the market for a premium aftermarket cold air intake for your V6 powered S197 from one of the most trusted names in aftermarket filtration, then be sure to check out the Series 69 Typhoon cold air intake, available here at americanmuscle.com.

K N Series 69 Typhoon CAI
I actually love my new cold air intake. However, when installing it into my 2011 mustang v6 I had to drill two different holes in the box because they didn't match up. If it would have not been for that I would have given it a full five stars. The increase in sound is very noticeable. The increase in HP is not as noticeable. Very good product.Helpful (1)

Horrible fitment !!
This cai looks great, the only problem i had is that the hood of the car doesn’t close right, this cai makes it have a gap.Helpful (0)

The fit was a little tighter than my other CAI . The screws didn't quite line up for the cover. Overall for the price I would expect better quality.Helpful (0)

Definitely adds some horsepower with factory tune. Adds a nice little roar and boost when accelerating. Would add better air flow with after market exhaust if running with a factory tune.Helpful (0)
Is this unit California legal/ approved? Also is there a specific tuner recomended for this unit and mustangs or is it compatible with any tuner?
This K&N Series 69 Typhoon Air Intake has been tested and approved by the California Air Resource Board meaning it is legal to use upon highway in the state of California.
Will this fit with both a BBK throttle body and an air raid throttle body spacer?
Yes this will fit no problems on the bbk throttle body. i actually installed the throttle body after I already installed this cai. The spacer i cant answer that as i do not have one installed.
I've had this mod for a few months now and I was wondering if I need to keep the carbon fiber cover on? Or can I have it off? Will that allow more air to be sucked in?
Hello! The carbon fiber cover on the K&N Series 69 Typhoon Air Intake helps direct air flow to the filter, and prevents any dirt from the engine bay entering the intake. While you may be able to run the intake without it, you would not see any noticeable increase in airflow.
While a tune is not required, would a computer re-tune have any significant impact on performance?
A tune can affect the car in quite a few ways. Most tuners have a 87 octane performance tune, and a 91 octane performance tune. Both of which explain themselves, one's meant for 91 octane, the other is meant for 87 octane. Tuner's modify how a car's computer thinks, this means the tune can do a number of things which can also relate to fuel:air ratios. This leads to a somewhat noticeable power gain, while also increasing engine reliability as these tunes are meant for Mustangs, and for their trim. In short summary a tuner can indeed provide an impact on performance? Significant probably not. You won't see a thirty horsepower increase. But a tuner can aid fuel economy, and possibly milk out more horsepower from your air intake. At best another 5-10 horsepower in most cases.
Can this intake fit the 2015 mustang v6 ??
This intake is designed to fit the 11-14 V6 models only.
This is a direct bolt-on item, no other components are needed for install.
Yes, this intake will work with that throttle body spacer.
Unfortunately, K&N doesnt make a mesh/grate cover for the heat shield on this cold air intake.
This cold air intake sits low enough that there shouldn't be any fitment issue with your Cervini hood.
The carbon fiber lid is held on by 6 M5-0.8 x 12mm bolts and 5mm washers.
The K&N Series 69 Typhoon Cold Air Intake and all other Cold Air Intakes we currently offer will reuse the OEM Mass Airflow Sensor.
The replacement filter for this K&N Series 69 Typhoon Air Intake is RC-2960XD.
Yes, The K&N Series 69 Typhoon Air Intake would fit your 2011 V6 Mustang!
The K&N Series 69 Typhoon Air Intake will work with a BBK throttle body and Airaid throttle body spacer without any issues.
This K&N Series 69 Typhoon Air Intake will fit with the BBK 73mm Throttle Body, item 56146, however, since the throttle body is larger, you may need to warm up the coupler to stretch it over the throttle body due to the tight fitment. http://www.americanmuscle.com/bbk-85mm-throttlebody-112v6.html
