    Review & Install Video

Hey everyone I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and today I’ll be taking a detailed look into this budget minded BBK cold air intake system for all 96-04 Mustang GTs. BBK has always played a big role in producing quality aftermarket Mustang parts ever since making some of the first EFI products for the early Fox body Mustangs back in the 80s. This kit is going to help give your ride more horse power and torque, and also add a nice throaty growl in the process by replacing that stock restrictive factory air box with everything you see here. The kit includes both Chrome intake tubes, your new heat shield, reusable high flow filter and all your necessary hardware. Now besides that quality construction that bright chrome finish is sure to make a nice improvement under any hood. This kit does not require a tune so it’s a great option for someone who might just be starting to mod their car and aren’t quite ready for a tune just yet. However if your after big power like we are today then you will definitely want to pair this intake up with a custom tune. But in order to see how much power this intake is going to make we need to get a baseline number down first from our 2000 GT back there. Our automatic 2000 GT Mustang just put down 222 horse power and 260 ft/lbs of torque in stock form. Now we’re going to install our BBK cold air intake system, which should only take us about an hour using standard hand tools. You will notice that this intake is equipped with a hole for your intake air temperature sensor, shown right here. Now if your car isn’t equipped with one of these sensors don’t worry, just go to your local part store, pick up a rubber plug for a few bucks and plug the hole, problem solved. So even though you don’t need to run a tune with this intake we’re looking for maximum gains here today, so with that being said we’re going to pair it up with our custom 93 octane Bama tune to optimize your spark timing, perfect those air fuel ratios and give you drastically improved throttle response. Alright now that we’ve got our BBK installed and our tune uploaded lets run our GT one more time on the DynoJet and see how we did. Our BBK equipped GT made a total of 245 horsepower and 288 ft/lbs of torque making for a peak gain of 23 horsepower over our baseline numbers and a very impressive gain of 31 horsepower and 47 ft/lb of torque throughout the curve. This intake from BBK is an all-around performer, not only did we make some serious power but the chrome finish really improved our under the hood appearance as well and it didn’t cost us an arm and a leg in the process. So if you’re looking for a quality intake from a company that loves Mustangs just as much as we do, then you will really enjoy this cold air from BBK.

Improves Horsepower. This BBK Cold Air Intake kit completely replaces your GT Mustangs restrictive stock air box and paper filter element with a high flow BBK filter assembly for a noticeable increase in horsepower and acceleration while providing filtration of harmful power robbing dust particles. The BBK CAI pulls cooler denser air from inside the fender well to make more power that you can feel.

Reusable Filter. BBK designed their high flow cotton air filter to be reusable. So no need to go out and buy a new filter every few thousand miles. Just clean the filter, re-oil it, save money, and go!

Black Wrinkle Coat Finish. The BBK CAI not only improves your pony's horsepower and acceleration, but improves your Mustang's under hood appearance with an aggressive baked on black wrinkle powder coat finish.

Simple Install. The BBK Cold Air Intake kit is designed to install easily with basic hand tools. No extra modifications or special tools are required for the installation. All parts and instructions are included.

Application. This BBK Cold Air Intake System is specifically designed to fit the 1996 to 2004 GT Mustangs equipped with the SOHC 4.6L engine and does not require re-tuning the vehicles computer for operation. Does not fit 2001 Bullitt Mustangs.

2 things, 1 what's the diameter of the angled pipe that the filter goes onto please. Secondly you say the product doesn't come with a grommet or plug for the air temp sensor. It actually does come with a grommet and metal plug for this. It doesn't come with a rubber pipe for one of the breathers though.

    • The BBK Cold Air Intake utilizes a 3.5" diameter pipe.

Looks and fits decent; long term not so well

BBK sent me this before it hit retail and went on easy just like most of the other brands. However after 2 years the plastic covering the logo peeled off and doesn't look as good. Other than that it's holding up well.

      Worth the cash.

I am running a V6, manual, and it is a daily driver. I needed a commuter car. Considering I rebuilt a 1967, 1968, 1988, this V6 was the best combo of fun and utility. This piece went on pretty easy. I have to admit, I read lots of the reviews first. The fit is fine, you just cannot tighten the pieces until you have it installed and then it falls right in place. The main difficulty was putting on the filter. I needed an extra set of hands. It went together in 5 minutes once I did that. The car runs much smoother. The sound on V6s are not throaty at all. They sound like wind up toys... (please remember I love Mustangs.) This piece really helped. The responsiveness is much improved, the sound. It has provided a lot of pep at a decent price and a reasonable amount of effort. I have to tell you though. As soon as I put it on, I wished I would have put on the throttle body. I guess that will be my next purchase. It is a good product at a good price. That is the definition of a good value. I would make this purchase again if i could do it again.

      An easy upgrade

I already had a CAI, but it was from a previous owner and falling apart, and chose this one based on looks, reviews, and price. The black finish looks much more at home in the SN95 engine bay compared to the chrome (which just seems a little too much). Installation was a breeze - with one exception. Since you have to install the filter from underneath the car, I would recommend that you jack the front of the car up to make it easier for you to get up into the fender. It took a fair amount of finagling for me to get everything firmly attached. In addition, depending on what hoses you have, you could run into a fitment problem, as they might be too small/big to fit on the hose ports. I happened to have a few extra hose bits lying around, and got everything sorted. Overall, it is well worth the time and effort to get it installed.

      CAI

I got this to replace my existing cold air intake because my old one started to rust and it looked bad. It fit perfectly except one of the hoses was a little to short so i used a peice i had in the garage. It gave me a little more hp then my old one did so i weas happy about that.

Great CAI once its installed properly

Let me start by first saying the CAI is great for its purpose. It does its job, I can feel a slight gain overall, and it looks great under the hood. This CAI is a VERY tight fit. Everything has to be installed 100% perfect to get it to fit. I also wish the rubber gasket was big enough to keep the air filter and tube flush without moving. I managed to use an older one from the previous CAI that was on my 02 GT. Just keep in mind this kit will fit perfect as long as you follow the directions well. Overall the directions are pretty bad, but a little common sense helps out. Pleased with the product, definitely worth the money and as always AM has my back with the super fast shipping!

      Great Product!

The intake is a really great product. It was a little difficult to put the intake on through the fender by yourself. So it's recommended with two people. My only complaint about this intake is the hose not fitting. I thought maybe they corrected the hose size since a few were complaining but they didn't. So I purchased a 1/2" hose and it fit perfect. Other than that, man you can really hear the "sucking sound" in the higher RPMS!

      It's decent

I'm happy with it i can tell it has a little more power and torque. I wasn't impressed with the instructions, it didnt say whether or was a dry or oiled filter ,and it's a little difficult to get the filter on by yourself. Other than those minor thing i'm happy.

      black out intake just ok

I received my intake nice and fast but it was missing the plate riveted on top. So American muscle took care of it sent a new one right out with a phone call and a picture text of the problem. So now for the intake it doest seem to fit 100% properly. And quality is not the greatest. I replaced a cheap eBay intake that was on my car when I bought it and I think it fit better.

      Looks great!

Im really happy with my purchase. The installation took a while because the instructions provided are really bad and they do not tell you you have to get the filter in the fender from below the car. I Had a rough time, but at the end I figured it out by myself and made it a lot easier XD. I did notice a good performance gain and my car sounds really agressive now.

Better than expected, definitely a must have!

I was pretty excited when I saw the BBK cold air intake black out edition, I was not overly eager to install a bright polished silver intake under my hood. The kit was easy to put together and install, the instructions were a little vague for my liking but nothing to really complain about. The only issue I did have was a small piece of the black powder coating has chipped off already when I took everything out of the box, the piece was small and surrounded a pre drilled hole for one of the bolts. After installing it's hidden under the bolt and doesn't affect anything really. Over all I couldn't be happier, it looks great and it was easy to install.

      Awesome Intake!!

This intake sounds amazing. You can hear the air sucking into the car. The black finish looks very sleek. Install was a pain but if you have a buddy help you it should not take more than 45 mins. The only hard part was getting the filter in the fender. Other than that the hoses have to be stretched as far as they can go. Instructions are poor but an intake installation is common sense. Overall i am very pleased with this purchase.

      BBK Cold air intake.

Well first I will start with the bad. This is not my first time doing a cold air intake so I know what I'm doing. The intake fits bad. The hoses it came with dint not even fit on! Lucky for my I had heater hoses laying around and was able to clamp one down on it. That's the only bad was the fit. I used to have a 2001 mustang GT and got the cheap one on here they have on here with no issues with fitment. This intake is also not plastic. (which is my fault i should of read the description) It is a HEAVY hunk of metal. Now for the good. I cant say I dint gain anything because if I did I would be lying. Throttle response is GREAT. I noticed it right away and the car has much better top end. Before to pass people I really had to get on it to pass traffic. But for the price it is not worth it. You will get the same gains with the cheap 84dollar intake on here. The tube size is the same and you are only paying for the name and I should of known that. But then again Nice gains and I'm very stubborn when it comes to noticing gains with little mods. This one was good. But save your money and get the cheap intake and use the rest for a bigger throttle body and a plenum.

      Poor Fitment

The performance gain is hard to tell for me because I did this the same time as my tuner, which was a big jump btw! But the instructions on this were so-so, you can figure it out by yourself, but one hose provided barely fit, and another existing one is too short and hardly fits, also when I came to clamping the actual filter on, it was a two man job! Me and my buddy barely got it on, and just with how we had to situate the piping to get the filter on, now none of my hose clamps line up with the grooves on my rubber pieces provided, which are stretched to the max to hold this all together. I'll need to make a trip to Advanced to get 2 new hoses, a clamp, and possibly longer rubber pieces to be happy with this CAI.
